This media may be deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:FOS1.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Hello @Jcb: , I helped MHNNBL upload those images with Pattypan, and clearly, I could have done a better job helping them. They meant to affix the same template as was done here.
Is it possible to replace the incorrect field for each image with the one found in FOS5-6-7.jpg in an automatized way? If so, thanks a lot for your help! If not, let me know so I get ready to go through it before it gets deleted.--Flor WMCH (talk) 21:27, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Go to Category:Media contributed by Muséum d'histoire naturelle de Neuchâtel and click 'perform batch task' from the tools menu. Especially the action 'custom replace' will be helpful. It will initally load 30 files, but by scrolling down the other files get added. Jcb (talk) 21:56, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks for explaining the procedure! Will do this before the end of the week.--Flor WMCH (talk) 08:30, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Jcb: , I have to ask for further help. Under the tool menu, both MNHNNBL and myself get the following items:
   What links here
   Related changes
   Special pages
   Permanent link
   Page information
   RSS feed
   Nominate category for discussion
But not "perform batch task"… I have not had a lot of luck searching Commons:perform batch task. Can you give further instructions? Thanks a lot! --Flor WMCH (talk) 09:03, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Magog the Ogre: , and sorry to bother you again. If you remember me, I'm the one who had helped a Swiss museum of natural science upload lots of fossils with corresponding metadata, but with incorrect info on the Licensing section. Of course, I had also taught my mistakes to the Museum employee, MHNNBL, so they received a warning message from Jcb, similar to the one you sent me. I've had little luck with Jcb's explanations, and now, the images were deleted, so the licensing can no longer be corrected... Is there any way you can help me on this one? Thanks a lot in advance...--Flor WMCH (talk) 13:32, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Flor WMCH: you may need to have a preference set before you can see that. I will get this later but first can you confirm the license? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 04:51, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi and thanks, @Magog the Ogre: . Yes, the license should be the same as all the media in the category Media contributed by the Muséum d'histoire naturelle de Neuchâtel, that is {{cc-by-sa-4.0}}. If there is a tutorial anywhere to lead me through the steps so I can do it directly instead of using your time, let me know!--Flor WMCH (talk) 09:05, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Flor WMCH: this is ✓ Done. The reason these were deleted is because we require a source and a license. The brand new template you included isn't technically set up as a license template, so it confused our bots (and editors!). My recommendation is simply to add the standard license on each page as I've done here: [1]. Sorry for the confusion. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 01:48, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks once more @Magog the Ogre for putting back the images online, with a bot-legible license as required. My mistakes, which you corrected, were done on the same day as the ones you helped correct here, so they should no longer happen. Thanks to your support and explanations we then managed to upload a batch of about 50 more images since then with proper licensing... Which is a relief as we have about 700 more to go!--Flor WMCH (talk) 13:25, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Categories[edit]

Please note that Commons categories are not tags/keywords. Pictures which were put into a certain category should not be put in the corresponding parent categories too. With respect to the pictures of the Ludlow bonebed this means that presence in the Category:Ludlow bone bed (created by me yesterday, justified by the presence of a total of at least 12 pictures) precludes categorisation into Category:Bone beds and Category:Vertebrata fossils because Category:Ludlow bone bed is a subcategory of Category:Bone beds which in turn is a subcategory of Category:Vertebrata fossils. Furthermore Category:Ludlow bone bed is a subcategory of Category:Silurian Vertebrata fossils which is a subcategory of Category:Vertebrata fossils too. Such a practice has the purpose to prevent more inclusive categories from being overfilled. --Gretarsson (talk) 13:27, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Gretarsson: Thanks! I am learning how categories work! Thanks for the creation of the categroy! Laure--MHNNBL (talk) 12:38, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
