Renaming files[edit]

Wow, thanks/danke. —Justin (koavf)TCM 05:02, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You mean re-uploading them? Mitar (talk) 08:59, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

CSD Hannover webm[edit]

Hi, you put some work into the videos. Sadly it only added thumbs, but did not fix the real issue. The real files are not 0.4 secs but much longer and >600 MB each. They cannot be uploaded with external tools or the upload wizard, but only with the rillke script or a server side upload. Some of the affected files are here: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T286532 If you like to work on fixing this, you can do. C.Suthorn (talk) 08:25, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

So why haven't you uploaded them with rillke's script? Mitar (talk) 08:32, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The rillke scripz uploads a single file. I have more than 600 uploaded videos and many more that I cannot upload because of the faulty MW software. I have however voted "upl" in the "Technische Wünsche" survey (it did not help, citation advancements won) --C.Suthorn (talk) 08:41, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T286532 I do not see 600 videos to be uploaded? For uploading, I use https://mwclient.readthedocs.io/en/latest/. You can script it to upload things from a folder, and it supports chunked upload. Mitar (talk) 09:21, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
--C.Suthorn (talk) 09:27, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I do not speak German. Mitar (talk) 09:33, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Here, you can use this script for uploading new revisions of existing files:
import sys
import mwclient
site = mwclient.Site('commons.wikimedia.org', reqs={'timeout': 3*60})
site.login('username', """password""")
for filename in sys.argv[1:]:
    image = site.Images[filename]
    if not image.exists:
        print(f"File does not exist: {filename}")
        continue
    print(f"Uploading: {filename}")
    with open(filename, 'rb') as f:
        try:
            site.upload(f, filename=filename, ignore=True, comment="Full file.")
            print("Done")
        except Exception as error:
            print(f"Error: {error}")
Filename should be named exactly like it is on the commons, without File: prefix. Save it as upload.py and then run it as python3 upload.py fileToUpload1.ogg fileToUpload2.ogg and so on for all files. You have to install mwclient, too. Mitar (talk) 09:29, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rethinking Progress: why you changed it?[edit]

Hi, I am about https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rethinking-progress.flac, you replaced flac, why? In the future, please describe it in "Edit summary". Vitaly Zdanevich (talk) 11:01, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I did. It says "Fixed file." I am trying to fix the fact that Mediawiki is detecting it as 0.0 length. So I remuxed it using ffmpeg to try to fix that. But it didn't work. Mitar (talk) 12:31, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
How you uploaded a new version if there is a limit to 100 MB? Vitaly Zdanevich (talk) 16:16, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You have to use chunked upload. You can use User talk:Rillke/bigChunkedUpload.js or mwclient like I shared a script above for uploading. So 100 MB limit is there only for non-chunked uploads. Mitar (talk) 17:06, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

what was wrong with Matematica in relax?[edit]

Hi! As I commented on phabricator, I just saved my Word file in PDF format. Could you tell me how did you fix it, so that I can do it myself if ever necessary? Thanks! --.mau. 20:46, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

I replied there, but in your case I just used mutool clean. Mitar (talk) 20:56, 15 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
seen, thanks! (I just published a version of the file with a cover, btw) --.mau. 10:43, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
File:06.45 Management rep letter.pdf has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Defective WebM files[edit]

Hello and thank you very much for fixing The Black Pirate and some other corrupted WebM files I had uploaded. Could you please kindly explain how you did it so that I could do it myself in the future, possibly with ffmpeg? Thank you very much in advance. — Racconish💬 12:35, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I ran ffmpeg -i 'The_Black_Pirate_(1926).webm' -map 0 -codec copy -copy_unknown output.webm. So just remuxed them again, without recoding. Not sure what you used originally to mux them. Mitar (talk) 12:43, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, very apprecitaed. — Racconish💬 12:58, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrol given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. rubin16 (talk) 12:49, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Pay attention to copyright
File:Disney Channel Taiwan Closed.mpeg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

  • This file is a copyright violation for the following reason: While this might be 'historic' or something, that doesn't make it copyright free and/or public domain. It's straight up Disney content, in an (by us unsupported) MPEG4 format.
Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
