Timbres français récents

[edit]

Ciao ! villy 20:51, 11 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi, you nominated this picture (Template:Featured_pictures_candidates#Image:Merson_LeHavre1929.jpg). It would be great, if you could provide an english description for it. Can you do this, please? Kind regards, norro 20:52, 11 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there - I'm afraid the painter of the wallpainting may have rights to the image - the image shows the painting only, in a near-flat angle. Since it shows a pice of work as the main part of the image, it'S not free i'm afraid, especially in france. In other countries it would be ok if the image was on the outside of a building. -- Duesentrieb 10:09, 12 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I know it's in a public place - but in france this (sadly) does not change a thing (you may have noticed the discussion about the Eiffel Tower at night). I don't know how this is handeled for anonymous work, though - it would probably be good to ask an expert. -- Duesentrieb 10:16, 12 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, the above image has been listed for deletion, see Template:Deletion_requests#May_26. --213.54.200.244 04:23, 27 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image deletion warning Image:Giscard.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

{{Publication officielle}}

[edit]

Commons-l subscription

[edit]

Hello Yann,

as per Commons talk:Administrators, I am asking all admins to subscribe to commons-l, a mailing list for Wikimedia Commons policy and project discussion. Since many admins are only on Commons infrequently, this is a good way to alert people about important happenings. The mailing list is nominally multilingual, but predominantly English.

If you are already subscribed to commons-l, I apologize for bothering you, and you are free to ignore this message. If you don't want to use your regular e-mail account, feel free to leave me a message, and I can send you a GMail invite. Traffic on the mailing list is relatively low, and we do not expect admins to read all messages to the list, but it would be nice if you could check on it at least every few weeks. Thanks for your time,--Eloquence 23:18, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gandhi

[edit]

I have in fact intended to dispute all images you have uploaded of Gandhi, because hardly any of the images have a source what so ever.

Fred Chess 22:38, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your answer.

Since you tag them with {{PD-India}}, changes the issue completely! I can't know the copyrights of all countries.

However, you refered me to Image:Gandhi dandi.jpg. On that page, you are actually making two claims: first you claim PD-India, then you claim PD-Anonymous work.

If you want to tag all your photos with PD-India, then I have no problem. But then please remove the text refering to the Bern Convention. It is wrong, because you must prove that the photographer was anonymous.

Fred Chess 21:42, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yann,

Your caption for the photo Gandhi studio 1931.jpg says "The photographer is unknown and the photo is more than 70 years old. According to the Bern Convention and the law of most countries, this photo is in the public domain."

This does not appear to be true.

The photographer is Vithalbhai Jhaveri.

An organization called Gandhi Serve Foundation claims copyright to this photo on its Web site: http://www.gandhiserve.org/cgi-bin/if2/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=Photographs/Personalities/Mahatma_Gandhi/1931-1932&image=PEMG1931505003.jpg&img=&tt=)

The caption on the GandhiServe site reads "Rare studio photograph of Gandhi taken in London at the request of Lord Irwin, 1931 --- Copyright: Vithalbhai Jhaveri/GandhiServe"

The site also says: "As per the Berne Convention images of Mahatma Gandhi are copyright protected in most countries, depending of the Copyright Law of the respective country (e.g. USA: 70 years after the death of the photographer). Any use of those images without the specific permission of the copyright owner or its representative forms an infringement of copyright."

The photographer, Vithalbhai Jhaveri, died in 1985, so the copyright would remain in effect until 2050. http://www.gandhiserve.org/information/our_photographers/vithalbhai_jhaveri.html

Also: you have misspelled "Berne" Convention.

Hi,
I know quite well the claim from Gandhiserve Foundation, and they are bogus. I don't believe that he took this photograph when he was 15 years old. This Foundation even claims that Vithalbhai Jhaveri (1916-1985) took photographs before he was born... See [2] and [3]. Don't believe all what you find on the Internet. And please login. Hi,
Applying copyright on such images is quite stupid. This actual painting is maybe not so old, but it's a copy of another one, which is a copy of another, back to the dawn of time. People made these to be copied and others copy these everywhere. What can I say more? Yann 17:13, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I noticed you delete the icon Image:Crystal_discussion_philosophy_3.png (see [[4]]) for copyvio.
Is it possible to restore it? This is not a copyvio, the icon has been made by a french user Jmtrivial from already on Commons pictures (actually this one and this other), so there's no way the image is not free. The user has probably forgot to put the licence, I reminded him to do so for other pictures he made, but he may have pass over this one. Seeing Image:Crystal_discussion_philosophy.png and Image:Crystal_discussion_philosophy_2.png, which are early versions of the delete icon, I guess we could restore the picture and add the same licence that on thoses ones. Hi Yann,

I didn't understood your question about the original source of this image.

If you followed the provided link to the english Wikipedia you will find this image licensed by his creator as public domain: [5].

I had to rename the file for compatibility with WikiCommons, as asked when I was uploading this image.

The image is a photo from Bill Douglas, founder of the World Tai Chi & Qigong Day, uploaded by himself to the World Tai Chi & Qigong Day's article in the english Wikipedia.

What else do you need?

Hi,

You deleted the above image as a 'copyvio'. Firstly no message was left on my talk page to advise me the image might be deleted. Secondly permission to use the image was logged in the Wikimedia OTRS system. Could you please review this and restore the image. Thanks, 82.152.194.30 20:57, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies, I posted the above whilst logged out. Just to clarify two points, the website it was taken from says the images are copyrighted but email permission to use this particular picture was obtained from the author and logged in the OTRS system (the author provided a higher res. version for use on Wikipedia than was available on the website) and the person who logged it on the OTRS system stated this on the image description page. Another image from the same author was done in the same way, this can be viewed at Image:GP_Imola2005_Podium.jpg. Alexj2002 21:03, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, could you please explain why you did delete this logo? The German Wikipedia shows logos of even the hugest companies, why not this one of the main German BDSM-lobbying organisation registered with the German parliament? Regards Nemissimo --217.227.42.62 16:10, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You deleted the file and so I have a question: the book is mine and i did the scan of its cover, is this still a breach of copyright to post the image? all online bookstores do so. thanks! JezWegierski

I didn't writen the book, I own a copy. Is this really against copyright to publish the image of the cover? JezWegierski

... is "Copyright-free", as stated on the website: http://www.spacetelescope.org/copyright.html

Including images; they are fairly explicit. Quoting... "The Hubble material you see on these pages is copyright-free and may be reproduced without fee, on the following conditions: ESA is credited as the source of the material (images/videos etc.). [...]" BrunoRino

You have forgotten the correct and required credits! But anyway, this does not cover the organization logos which are protected marks. Reread the notices! In general logos are exgtremely rarely acceptable (unless they are a very minor part of the composition) Verdy p 01:19, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am convinced about the logo issue. Please delete this other one too.

Why did you delete my file Image:Taiguara.jpg ?

[edit]

Sorry, but I've been struggling to add an image to the Brazilian page dedicated to my father (Taiguara, a popular Brazilian artist before he passed), and just came across a message that says you deleted the image page I created. I'm fairly new to this and have been trying to do my best here, for the last 2 hours... Could you tell me why you deleted it? I'm to the point of giving up!

There were no copywrite violations since I retain the rights and fully released them as public domain. So, why is this seemengly impossible?! (I guess what I'm really asking is: Why did you delete it? :(

Thanks, Imyra

I undeleted this image, I can assert that the photographer has uploaded it, I asked him to upload it to commons. -- Bryan (talk to me) 17:17, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cordialement,

Nepomuk 20:03, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
