Template:Avas has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this template, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Unblock request[edit]

Unblock request granted

This blocked user asked to be unblocked, and one or more administrators has reviewed and granted this request.

Request reason: "I was unblocked on Wikipedia in July 2020, on the assurance that no such violation shall ever be seen from my side and I am trying to follow the basic Wikipedia rules henceforth. I happened to know I am still blocked on Wikimedia Commons when I was trying to clarify something regarding Copyright on Commons Village pump after this conversation with Diannaa regarding the same. I am requesting for an unblock on Wikimedia since now I understand where I went wrong and I am certainly sure that I will not repeat any such that will lead to a block. ShappeAli (talk) 05:35, 3 September 2020 (UTC)"[reply]
Unblock reason: "I will unblock you, although your answer to second question was still not entirely correct. In addition to public domain files some Creative Commons files can be uploaded into Commons – but CC-files with NC or ND in license are prohibited. See more COM:Flickr about allowed licenses. Taivo (talk) 07:33, 4 September 2020 (UTC)"[reply]

You were blocked due to two problems. Sockpuppeting was only one of them and I admit, that this isn't a problem anymore. The other problem is copyright violation. For unblocking you must answer two questions. Why most of your uploads were copyright violations? Answer "I didn't know copyright at that time" isn't enough, you must explain, what was wrong with these images. How can we be sure, that your new uploads aren't? Taivo (talk) 07:53, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the responsse Taivo. The images I uploaded before were some of the photos that were taken by a local photographer, a friend of mine, for few news magazines. While going through some Wikipedia articles I observed that images uploaded to Flickr can be used in Wikipedia. So I suggested him to upload the photos to Flickr but now I realize that is a copyright violation and those images are copy right protected and belongs to the magazine by their contract. So I once again apologize for my ignorant behavior. But now I am trying to get the feedback and advice from the experts as you can see in the above discussion. I promise to follow the Wikipedia guidelines hereafter.ShappeAli (talk) 08:07, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The first question was answered well, the other was not. Some Flickr files can be uploaded into Commons and some cannot. How to make the difference? Taivo (talk) 19:45, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I assume it has to do with the license provided in the flickr image; the flickr image should be in public domain and should be uploaded under a free license. What went wrong in my case was, I assumed that my friend holds the copyright of the uploaded images but actually belong to that specific media agency under their contract. So its like uploading copyright protected files with an incorrect license. This is explained to my understanding and not entirely sure if this is the correct answer or not.
