Geocoding tool[edit]

Hey Carnildo. Sure, I'll give it a go now. May take a few minutes. Do you mind entering your time 20100104 style or should I provide another method of selecting it? And should I build in the ability to do newer than a set time rather than just a date? (By the way, I assume you mean the user that uploaded it and the time it was uploaded.) Jarry1250 (talk) 17:02, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, done [2]. Only problem is, it's taking ages to load for me, but I can't find a quicker alternative. Hopefully this is just a blip, but I may have to rethink the plan if not :) Jarry1250 (talk) 17:20, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yes, I knew I remembered you from somewhere. Can I get back to you on that one tomorrow? Cheers. Jarry1250 (talk) 21:39, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, all fixed now (I hope) - in fact, better than ever. Enjoy. Jarry1250 (talk) 14:46, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please help replace this outdated license[edit]

Hello!

Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license {{PD}}. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding {{PD-self}} if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

KVDP's gearbox images[edit]

There was discussion of this yesterday, in relation to an over-written image.

I'm tagging the lot for deletion anyway, on the grounds of the incorrectly-drawn top gear.

You can imagine how tired I am of dealing with this "contributor" 8-( Andy Dingley (talk) 10:48, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you but ????[edit]

Thank you for your response: "The problem with your image name is that "Haegeumgang" has zero-width-space characters between each of the letters."

But what does that mean (sorry if I sound dense), and what can be done to correct it? Waygugin (talk) 07:55, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Pieter Kuiper edit restrictions[edit]

White balance discussion[edit]

My edit of the the eagle [3] has caused quite a stir. You too made a note on my talk page. You argue that I destroyed highlight detail in this picture by changing the white balance. I disagree. After the change I made to the white balance the exact same details can be seen in the picture.

Someone else made the case that the white balance was 'already meticulously set to give natural colours'. I disagree. The picture is taken with high aperture so that the background fades away. I too make pictures like that. That leaves only the head (and part of the body) of the eagle in the picture. So the picture is taken to make the eagle stand out. The rest of the picture is irrelevant. The natural colour of the eagle is therefore important. And not the colours of the background.

Indeed, the automatic white balance button is not a magic button. I use other ways to edit the white balance in the picture as well. My philosophy in taking and editing pictures is that pictures should portray reality as closely as possible and that the colours in it should be as they were seen by the photographer. If that means that there are shadows in the picture, so be it. That is why I think the edit you made to the plane is incorrect. It creates a reddish swoon over the picture. But the difference between the pictures is only minor.

So, all in all, I think that the edit I made to the picture of the eagle was correct. And I am not a happy-go-lucky presser of the automatic white balance-button as you probably thought I was. Citypeek (talk) 07:17, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open[edit]

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Autopatrol given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. INeverCry (talk) 01:24, 12 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

File:Tribute in Light Memorial September 9 2004.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
