User talk:Nitramus
Well, as I haven't been welcomed yet I guess I'll have to do it myself. Welcome to Commons Nitramus, enjoy your time here.
Our first steps tour and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki—it is really easy. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

Image Tagging Image:Hypnogram.PNG
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Hypnogram.PNG. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-3.0}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. — Manecke 16:12, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- I did in fact make the picture myself(I drew it in MS Paint), which I specified when uploading it. When I uploaded it, I was under the impression that I shared it under a license, as I did have to specify a license in order to upload the picture (which I also did). Obviously, something hasn't been working and I don't see what went wrong. Either, it's a problem of technical nature, or I somehow misread the instructions. I don't know how to add a copyright tag now. So I want to share it as public domain. Please, feel free to fix it yourself or to guide me through the process (step by step; like you would to a four-year-old). Nitramus 16:27, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

- Thanks for reminding me. I have added a license template according to your request. Best regards, Nitramus 15:04, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello Nitramus!
Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.
To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, categories, optionally galleries, or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.
You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.
The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!

- Image:Neurospora2.PNG is uncategorized since 3 December 2008. BotMultichillT (talk) 06:16, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comment. I have now put the image in question in the Biology category. As this is a rather broad category, I suspect that there is a smaller, more specific category somewhere, but I was unable to find one right now. If anyone else, who knows the categories of Commons better than I do, wants to recategorize the image into a more convenient category, I will be more than happy to help with whatever advice I might be able to offer. - Thanks for your comment regarding the Circadian clock of drosophila image. I agree with the categories you proposed, but I changed neurology to entomology, which, judged by the other media in the entomology category, probably is a good choice (rather than the subcategory "insects" which I thought of as well). There doesn't seem to be a good category for circadian rhythms/chronobiology. I have browsed around to see where other people have put their chronobiology-related media, but I haven't found a good category. If you have any ideas, please let me know.
- Ah, yes, for your information, I recategorized the neurospora image from biology to mycology as well. Best regards Nitramus (talk) 19:41, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
