Need to remove code text visible in infobox

I need to remove Wiki code text related to a photo file that is visible (for users) in the infobox person for Michael Blakey (musician). How do I do this? It currently reads below the subject's name as: [[File: |frameless|alt=]] It shouldn't be there.

Also, I determined through research that this same subject is primarily a record producer instead of a musician, as currently indicated. How do I correct this in the parenthetical disambiguation? — Preceding unsigned comment added by DanielleLevi (talk • contribs) 22:31, 1 September 2012‎ (UTC)

I'm not aware of any infoboxes here on Wikimedia Commons (a media repository used by the different Wikipedia editions, other Wikimedia projects, and others). I'm guessing you're talking about wikipedia:en:Michael Blakey (musician) at the English Wikipedia project. The help desk for that project is at wikipedia:en:Wikipedia:Help desk. How can I ask someone to re check my files?

This topic was moved here from Commons talk:Community portal because it had nothing to do with the contents of Commons:Community portal.

Hi can someone tell me how can I contact someone to review my files? I don't know how to? And also how can I stop my files to be erased? Does anyone knows? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fxz100 (talk • contribs) 04:12, 2 September 2012‎ (UTC)

All your files have already been reviewed and deleted as copyright violations. The best way to stop your files from being erased is to only upload files that are actually yours, instead of uploading other people's non-free content to a project that only collects free content. You also need to stop abusing multiple user accounts. LX (talk, contribs) 08:48, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

How can I find photos on wikipedia should I just write the name of the image I'm looking for? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fxz100 (talk • contribs) 04:13, 2 September 2012‎ (UTC)

Step one would be to go to a Wikipedia project that hosts images (such as English Wikipedia) and look for their help texts on searching (e.g. wikipedia:en:Help:Searching).
If you want to know more about searching on Commons (the site on which you asked the question), see Help:Searching and Help:Image searching. If you have more specific follow-up questions, feel free to ask them here. LX (talk, contribs) 08:45, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

Clearing User's Talkpage

Hi, How do I create an archive page for my "user talkpage"? (Or would some admin perform this for me) Thanks. Orrlingtalk 22:03, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

See Commons:Talk page guidelines#Archiving - when there is too much text. No administrative privileges are required. LX (talk, contribs) 08:53, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
Can someone say how one can clear one's talkpage into a personal "archive"? Or is there people who regularly do it across the users' zone for others? Orrlingtalk 13:16, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
Simply move the page and replace the redirect with your talk page header or blank the redirect after moving. -- Rillke(q?) 08:21, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. ! I hope I can figure out correctly what "moving the page" specifically means,, as well as the further instruction. Thanx again. Orrlingtalk 13:26, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
Hooray, it worked for me :-) (Untill this moment I haven't been aware of the possibility to perform page-moving for my userzone's pages by myself. I invite you to view if everything is done OK) Thankz Orrlingtalk 13:58, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
What you're asking for is described on the page I linked to. Was there something that wasn't clear in those instructions? We usually don't archive each other's user talk pages, but there are bots who can do it automatically. That's also described at Commons:Talk page guidelines#Archiving - when there is too much text and the pages that it links to. LX (talk, contribs) 11:09, 3 September 2012 (UTC)

Yes, looks good. Now, you may set up a bot like SpBot (archiving on demand) or MiszaBot (archiving when a time elapsed and nothing was added to a thread) for archiving your talk page regularly or you keep it with moving when the page is full. I can just recommend what Alex said: Read the guideline. It also contains other useful stuff. -- Rillke(q?) 17:01, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

New Version of Image 'internal storage backends' problem when uploading

I am not able to upload a new edited version of this image:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Akong_Rinpoche_and_a_monk.jpg

After selecting the new file and pressing the Upload button I get the message:

"The file "mwstore://local-multiwrite/local-public/4/42/Akong_Rinpoche_and_a_monk.jpg" is in an inconsistent state within the internal storage backends"

This has been the case for two days now. I have not had any difficulty with other files, only this one.

Many thanks.

Any help appreciated.

problematic entry

Hello, Volunteers, and thanks for your contribution to this phenomenal source.

(If I am writing to the wrong team, please pass this message to the right one.)

I write to report an incorrect entry:

   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Per_stirpes

The subject - legal matters in inheritance - is not something I know much about, but it's very clear that someone inserted a sly joke into the Wikipedia entry for "per stirpes." See the definition of the term in the first line:

"Per stirpes (play /pɜr ˈstɜrpiːz/; "by branch") (alternately known
as "first serve fees" and "first herpes") is a legal term in Latin.

Searching (Google) for both "legal term" and "per herpes" turns up 4 entries, including Wikipedia not only Wikipedia but Answers.com. From this list, however, one sees that a contributor to Zomobo.net must have already seen this:

"Note - per stirpes is not first herpes. [edit] Modifications. At least
in one state, New York, a statute modified this definition. Under New
York law, the number of ..."

Copyright help regarding File:Lake Kuttara 3.JPG

Failed Upload Wizard

Hey. One of my uploads (this one) has just been deleted by I-don't-know-which circumstances or decision (couldn't find the discussion page to support the deletion. A mistaken bot generation maybe?) and my attempt to reupload it to restore the gallery results in the Upload Wizard saying "There was another file already on the site with the same content, but it was deleted", and won't allow me proceed. Any hint what error or logic effectuates this. Thanx, Orrlingtalk 22:35, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

On your talk page you can see who tagged your file as a copvio and then ask this user.--Funfood 23:13, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
What do you mean? It looks too crude. What does the file we're speaking about have to do with a copvio ? What's that tag? Orrlingtalk 04:15, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Any instruction for how to overpass that Wizard's thing which won't let my image reupload? Orrlingtalk 04:18, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Because the file is deleted, I have no clue what was shown on it, but you can ask Vera who tagged the file as a copvio (that is: put a copyright violation note on it) why she did. You should wait with a new upload until this copyright question is cleared. If there is no copyright problem with the file, it can be undeleted and needs no new upload. --Funfood 10:05, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
What is that copyright thing? I was photographing T-shirts with sarcastic texts displayed at a dusty stall in a market, that's what the file shows. Can we undelete that file?? How can one harm a fair contribution of mine in such a way? Orrlingtalk 17:31, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps the design of the T-Shirts looked copyrightable, I don't know. You can try an undeletion request, so other admins can have a look and decide what to do. --Funfood 18:16, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Why wouldn't the tool-holders discuss that matter openly (actively involving the uploader) prior to deleting which bases on look-like?.. Will post it at that undeletion request page. Thank you very much. Orrlingtalk 18:25, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Just a last hint: The copvio note was posted on 4th Sept at your talk pake and it was deleted on 7th Sept. You have been active on commons in the days between and should have noticed it. --Funfood 18:52, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

File name disappears when renaming

I regularly request renaming of files due to spelling mistakes. Until recently, the existing file name stayed in the first box, making renaming it (often only changing one or two letters) fairly easy. However, now when I click on the file name it totally disappears, so I have to enter the entire name. Is this something I've accidentally turned on, (XP, IE8, Vector) or is this someone's idea of an "improvement" - it isn't it's just a nuisance. Arjayay (talk) 17:17, 3 September 2012 (UTC)

Permission from someone who maintains a website that happens to include the image is irrelevant if they're not the copyright holder (and it seems very unlikely that he would be). You claim that the photo is in the public domain, but there's not enough information to determine whether that's true. Such information would include
  • When and where was the photo first published?
  • Who created the photo and when? Are they alive? If not, when did they die?

Photos from public domain FaceBook pages

I am trying to figure out if two photos I previously uploaded (that appeared to comply with all of this wiki's terms and copyright policies) from a public FaceBook page are allowed to remain on the Commons. They are now up for deletion, as I did not enter sufficient copyright information. Both of these photos originated from the same page, and according to the terms and conditions are in the public domain (they were taken at the San Diego Comic-Con, which qualifies as a public event). When I tried to look up FaceBook's copyright policy to find a suitable license to enter, I could not find the information I was looking for. Should I simply delete the photos now and look elsewhere? (User talk:Bookbugtink), 17:58, 3 September 2012 (UTC)

Only the photographer of these images can give a free license which is needed for the pictures to stay on commons. If you can't find it somewhere the images will be deleted.--Funfood 22:03, 3 September 2012 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments question:

Soldiers standing in front of monument with eagle and boars'heads Hello to the help desk. I would like to upload a photo of my father, taken during the war, for the 'Wiki Loves Monuments' contest. The problem is that I don't know where it was taken: possibly in Belgium or in Italy, the two countries he was posted to by the Canadian army. Is this possible? He has passed away, so I have copyright. A main reason I am requesting this is for my own information, if someone recognized it I could update my photo album of his work. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Larry in Waterloo (talk • contribs) 23:39, 3 September 2012‎ (UTC)

If it is a photo of your father, then you most probably don't own the copyright. The copyright holder is the photographer, or if the photographer is dead, the photographer's heir. Usually, you don't take photos of yourself, so the copyright holder is probably someone else. --Stefan4 (talk) 00:01, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

if someone changed the license on flickr to non commercial use

If someone changed their license on flickr to non commercial after it has been uploaded to Commons, what the status of the picture on Commons: it is still free for me to make money from the picture or not? If not, then it 's not free, then it should be deleted on Commons altogether? Ebaychatter0 (talk) 08:04, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

the license is irrevocable so that any earlier copies of the image have the original license. We do not have to delete off commons if it is confirmed. However if the original was a copyright infringement or the flickr uploader did not have permission to grant a license, then if that can be proved it should be removed. But for a mere change of mind on flickr there is no need to change any copy. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:48, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
Yes, assuming that's what happened and the license was valid at the time it was uploaded here, it's still free. If you name the file, we can probably help you assess whether the license was correctly represented at the time it was uploaded. LX (talk, contribs) 10:22, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Photos from Russell military museum

Hi, I just visited the Russell Military Museum near Chicago (official website: http://www.russellmilitarymuseum.com/) and took various photos (about 100, maybe less). Being that I can't find any other photos from them on Commons, nor a page on it on Wikipedia, do you know if I can upload the images, or should I ask them directly (if so could someone do it, being that I've never done it)? Thanks, --Amendola90 (talk) 19:36, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

If taking photos wasn't prohibited and you didn't take photos of artworks or other copyrighted material, you should be allowed to upload them if they are in scope. If you want to play safe, you ask them before starting uploading something. -- Rillke(q?) 19:07, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, I asked at the Commons:Village pump/Copyright and they also said it should be OK. If I e-mailed them, and they said no, I shoulden't upload them, right? Or could I do it anyway because I'm within all regulations (I'm not sure if it's a private collection, though)? Thanks, --Amendola90 (talk) 10:28, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
See Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter#Museum and interior photography. In short: Commons will accept the photos. If there were rules against taking photos at the museum that were clearly posted on signs or printed on the ticket, you may be personally liable for violating those, and you could theoretically be banned from returning, sued, or both. If there were no rules communicated and they were to object after the fact, they wouldn't really have a leg to stand on. Hopefully, though, like most museums, they understand that seeing photos of their exhibits does not really compete with real-world visits. LX (talk, contribs) 11:10, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

VHS bootleg - screen capture question [NirvanaVHSBootlegs]

Hello,

I am hoping to upload the following images to the Commons:

29moS.png [Nirvana performing in 1990] IRmAn.png [Kurt Cobain seen during a 1993 MTV rehearsal]

Both are 720x540 screen captures sourced from publicly available amateur-made VHS tapes; in at least one of these cases, it is unknown who recorded the master tape, so permission to use a frame from it cannot be granted explicitly. However, the tapes are publicly available and easy to procure in transferred (DVD) form free-of-charge.

Would these images be acceptable for upload to the Commons?

Thank you,

No. Permission must be had from the creator of works before uploading here.--Prosfilaes (talk) 23:44, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

Hello. I've uploaded a historical image from the Cambridge (MA) Historical Society. I don't see any licensing or (c) info on the CHS website. http://www.cambridgehistory.org/imagecollection/rand-estate-1899-massachusetts-avenue

The image is labeled as being from 1900 or earlier. I believe it's in the public domain and should be available for use on Wikipedia.

I've added it to an article on Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porter_Square#History. I hope that doing so is allowed and appropriate. (If not, please let me know.)

--Vistawhite (talk) 22:18, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Sure enough Nikbot sent me a message that I haven't included the proper permission for the image I discuss above. I still believe that the image, which is from 1900 or earlier, is in the public domain. (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Licensing#Material_in_the_public_domain says "Works published before 1923 are in the public domain.") Can somebody please let me know how I'd go about adding the necessary info to the file? I don't see a place to do so on the file page on wiki commons. Thanks.--Vistawhite (talk) 00:30, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
  • The bot is correctly noting that you have not tagged it with license information. Presumably the tag you want is {{PD-1923}} (published in the U.S. before 1923, hence public domain). However, if the image was not published at that time -- in particular if it was published only recently -- it might not be in the public domain. In any case, the bot is simply scanning for the presence or absence of a tag indicating the licensing status. - Jmabel ! talk 03:51, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
The file has been deleted because the required information was not provided. LX (talk, contribs) 11:14, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
It's a pity this has been deleted. The photo would be a valuable addition to the article. I had changed the info associated with the image to show that it's pre-1900 and should be Public Domain, but it was deleted anyway. I'd re-upload the image, but Wikipedia doesn't seem to let me. The source of the image is: http://www.cambridgehistory.org/imagecollection/rand-estate-1899-massachusetts-avenue Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be appreciated.--Vistawhite (talk) 16:34, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
I'd strongly suggest that you do not attempt to recreate previously deleted files yourself, as doing so may lead to loss of editing privileges. If you can show that the photo was published (and again, date of publication is what's required – as far as I can tell, your source does not provide any information on that), you can request undeletion. Converting Template:Coord data into Template:Location data

I was in Germany over the summer and took hundreds of photos, but because I'm not very good with locations and directions outside of my native Michigan (where I now geotag all the photos I take) I have not done any geotagging for the German images. Because I have a lot of trouble finding the German locations with the Google Maps "crosshairs" method, and just because there are so many different ones, I'm curious if there is a way to convert Wikipedia "Template:Coord" data to Commons "Template:Location" data. Most of the photos I've taken match up to individual Wikipedia subjects, such as buildings, museums, stadiums, or small towns. Currently, none of these images are geotagged, but I could get started on geotagging if I could figure out a simple way to convert between Template:Coord and Template:Location. Thanks! Michael Barera (talk) 15:25, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

As far as I can tell, en:Template:Coord accepts both degrees/minutes/seconds notation (e.g. {{coord|52|30|2|N|13|23|56|E}}) and decimal notation (e.g. {{coord|52.500556|13.398889}}). The equivalent on Commons would be {{location|52|30|2|N|13|23|56|E}} and {{location dec|52.500556|13.398889}}, respectively. LX (talk, contribs) 17:20, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. I tried the first conversion technique you suggested (for the degrees/minutes/seconds notation used on Wikipedia), but all I got was an error message: "Expression error: Unrecognised word". The "location" template does not render the coordinates correctly when I try to implement this template. Are there any other suggestions, or is this just a lost cause? Thanks for your time and your effort: I really do appreciate it! Michael Barera (talk) 05:02, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
You might get that if you use an incorrect number of arguments such as {{location|52|30|N|13|23|E}} or {{location|52|30|2|0|N|13|23|56|0|E}}. What were the exact arguments you used? LX (talk, contribs) 08:58, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the tip, LX. Yes, I was using only two arguments instead of three: I've got it working now thanks to your help! Michael Barera (talk) 17:09, 15 September 2012 (UTC)

Marco Polo's visit to Andhra in India-failure to mention in your a/c of his travels

The famous Venitian merchant traveller Marco Polo is stated to have visited India in 13th century while returning from China to his Venice. While going through your a/c of hi travels I do not find mention of his visit to Krishnadevaraya's court in Vijayanagar when he is credited to have stated that Telugu is Italian(or Latin) of the East. There is however mention of his opinion of Pandyan empire. As far as I am aware of,the Andhra community consisting now of 70 million population had been, not only priding itself in the compliment, but had also made it into official text-books for the last seventy years !If this were not a historical fact fit enough to deserve a mention in your write-up on Marco Polo, then it is utterly wrong and foolish to pride on a non-existent incident and should be corrected whatever be the lapse of time, after all pride of a ancient race with a classical language need not depend on such matters. But if it is a omission for reasons only Wikipedia knows then it should be examined if it hurts pride of a race for no fault of their own.Pl examine and also why none has touched thi point till now. Problème de licence ?

Bonjour

You have to grant the license. There is a recommended license to use. The easiest way to do that here is to pick the CC-BY-SA-3.0 license when you upload. If you click the upload file you can upload multiple photos and easily specify that license. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:19, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

  • It would sure be easier to help if you would provide links to the wikipedia page and the image.
  • Please sign your posts with ~~~~
  • You say the photo is "not copyrighted". Unless it is either very old or extremely simple, that's just plain not true. It may be licensed in a very open manner, but pretty much any photo made in the last few decades would be copyrighted.

Replace Coat of Arms of the City Wehr (Baden)

Dear Administrator Team!

Six years ago I drew a version of the city's cote of arms: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wappen_Wehr_Baden.png

For long time it was better than nothing, but the self-drewn image made its way to print media like newspapers and other more or less "official" documents. To correct this, an agent of city's administration bureau asked me to replace the cote of arms by this (correct & official) version: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Coat_of_Arms_of_Wehr_(Baden).jpg

Because my account was not linked to wikimedia commons until now (just german wikipedia) I was not able to replace the file by myself. Could you please take care of the replacement? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Waldstrom (talk • contribs) 15:05, 12 September 2012‎ (UTC)

If you mean you would like to overwrite File:Wappen Wehr Baden.png with File:Coat of Arms of Wehr (Baden).jpg, that is not technically possible, since they're different file types (PNG is the more appropriate format – SVG would be better). Of course, you don't need any special privileges to edit the articles on the different project to use the most appropriate version of the coat of arms. Copyright on Nature publication, Moscow

I'd like to upload several images from a publication in the journal Nature. I believe there is a copyright on it, but I don't know what license. One upload on the Wikipedia Commons (here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cover_nature.jpg) uses the cover page of a Nature magazine to illustrate the magazine and lists it under a specific copyright license. Am I able to upload an image to illustrate the purpose of the article in the same manner or is the cover a different issue? The StockPhoto MediaWiki gadget (not a browser gadget) is enabled by default. If you've disabled it, you can enable it again by going to the Gadgets section of your preferences. Scroll down to the "Interface: Other" heading, place a check mark next to "StockPhoto" (which should be the first item), scroll down to the bottom and press the "Save" button. Camera mega-pixels

Hello.

I was just wandering whether we are still able to upload a photo if our camera exceeds a certain mega-pixel count i.e. is their a limit to acceptable camera MP?

I know that we cannot upload a photo greater than 100 MB in size, but what about the actual pixels of a camera?

Thanks for the help.Fotoriety (talk) 04:14, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

No limit about mega-pixels, AFAIK. Yann (talk) 05:03, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
True for most practical intents and purposes, but do note that thumbnail generation may fail for PNG files with more than 12 megapixels and for large progressive mode JPEG files. See Commons:FAQ#What resolution should the images I upload be? LX (talk, contribs) 17:31, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Deleting double / inappropriate redirects

Hi there, I write this in here because I have a feeling that I have done something wrong. For example in here, I wanted to make a new, more appropriate redirect to the right category, and sometimes a long time ago when I didn't know the policies in here, I made redirects, that now seem odd to me, like, for example: DVD player and DVD players. And only other of those two is really needed, since when you write DVD player in search, it automatically suggests DVD players. Because of that, I have put this template to the redirect pages which I believe has to be deleted.

Since that template is for files, and not for pages, I was beginning to fear that it wasn't the best solution that I came up with. Somehow I thought it was appropriate, since in a way the redirects were same kind / duplictes as the other redirects, which I believe, are worth saving, since they are more appropriate. Can somebody suggest for me, what could be more suitable template or policy for deleting those unnecessary redirects ?
Hoikka1 (talk) 08:30, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Deleted. Yann (talk) 09:30, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
Thank you very much Yann. Was the template I added right or wrong, and what would be the right way ? Because I have some more useless redirects. I thought that it would be nice to clean them away.
Hoikka1 (talk) 09:49, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Well, I'll answer to myself. The speedy deletion did the trick, and I believe that in the future, it is the way to go.
Hoikka1 (talk) 14:04, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Template {{Duplicate|better name}} is the best way as it generates a clickable destination link in the deletion edit summary. --Foroa (talk) 15:51, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
That was precisely what I did before I posted this matter in here, so it was the right way after all. But I was worried that the template was meant for files, not for pages, galleries etc... You got a point there, although I did that link manually myself to the speedy deletion reason. That link went also to the summary in the history.

Government document on a non-government website

Regarding the file — http://www.tampacriminaldefense.com/images/FDLE-Lab-report.pdf

This appears to be a government document that was reproduced on a non-government website, which is my source for the document. Is it permissible to upload this document without getting permission from the website and if so, how do I specify suitable license and source information? Thanks. --Bob K31416 (talk) 12:34, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

It's a Florida state government document. I don't know whether Florida places such documents in the public domain (although routine police documents are often in the public domain even in states where government documents in general are not). If we have a valid PD tag that covers this document, it doesn't matter at all on whose site you found it, except for being clear about your source. - Jmabel ! talk 15:40, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Uploading Historical pictures of the Rio-Niterói Bridge

Hello,

A few days ago I wrote an extensive article about the Rio-Niterói Bridge which I would like to share with Wikipedia. Though, I didn't find any historical pictures related to the construction and inauguration of the bridge or the time before the bridge was built. As I would like to make the article as complete as possible I would like to upload some pictures here. I see that there are special licenses for images provided by the US government which makes it possible to upload historical pictures related to the USA. My question is, is there some kind of license for other historical pictures too? Won't historical pictures loose their license after some time? And what are possible ways to upload historical photos which aren't mine?

Thank you very much for your time and help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Massimiliano W (talk • contribs) 11:48, 15 September 2012‎ (UTC)

  • Convenience links: en:Rio–Niterói Bridge, pt:Ponte Rio-Niterói. This is a bridge in Brazil, completed 1975. Typically in Brazil, everything is copyrighted for at least 70 years -- life plus 70 years for known authors -- so unless material has been explicitly placed in the public domain, it's going to be another 30 years or so before any relevant photos are in the public domain. - Jmabel ! talk 14:30, 15 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi Presse03. Some of the answers you've received are not quite correct. The problem with the previous versions of File:Rodgau Bildstock 3 Büchnerstraße 20.JPG was not that it was saved in progressive mode. Progressive mode is not a problem with such low-resolution files. The problem is that it was saved in the CMYK colorspace. This colorspace is unsupported by legacy Microsoft Internet Explorer browsers and by the Mediawiki thumbnailer (see http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4926668/why-do-some-images-fail-to-display-in-ie-but-not-other-browsers and Category:Bug 24854, respectively). The latest version is saved as RGB, which is more appropriate for web use, and it looks OK to me in both Firefox and Chromium. (I don't have the ability to test with legacy browsers.) Since you don't link to a copy of the logo, there's going to be a series of things to work out in order to known how best to proceed. I'm guessing the logo you refer to is http://www.enotrans.org/wp-content/themes/enotrans/_/img/eno-logo-big.png. If that's the case, download it to your computer and go to Special:UploadWizard. Read the guide (it contains stuff you should know so that you don't have to ask for detailed instructions for every file you want to upload) and click Next at the bottom. Click Select a media file to donate and find the file on your computer. When the file has been uploaded, click Continue. Select This file is not my own work. In the Source field, enter http://www.enotrans.org/wp-content/themes/enotrans/_/img/eno-logo-big.png from http://www.enotrans.org/. In the Author(s) field, enter Not applicable; contains no original authorship. Click on Another reason not mentioned above and in the text box that appears, enter {{PD-textlogo}}{{trademarked}}. Click Next. In the Title and Description fields, enter Eno Center for Transportation logotype. In the Date created field, enter the date when the logotype was created. If you don't know and you can't find out, enter {{unknown|date}}. Click Add categories and more information and add some appropriate categories such as Category:Blue and white logos, Category:Logos of organizations of the United States, Category:Square logos, Category:Think tanks and Category:Transport organizations. Click Next.
If you are referring to a different logo that is more complex, the above may not apply. In that case, please link to the logo in question so that we can provide more appropriate instructions. LX (talk, contribs) 17:21, 16 September 2012 (UTC)

Hugo dated signature 1860, and the Monument in print says 1868. This print has 4 artists names in the outside of print. Then Hugo Burkner has signed inside the print itself. Julius Hubner is listed on it and it seems that Hugo had worked with him before. It is an amazing piece of history and it gives me a nice feeling when I look at it . And I really do not even know how to take care of it.--Guda42 15:48, 16 September 2012 (UTC) Template:Help ME I do not know where to stick my license on all of these images of the same print. The print itself is old enough to be certainly public domain. What license do you intend to provide for your photos of it in the cases where you are showing frame, etc. that would not be part of the print itself?
By the way, for anyone trying to help this user sort this out, I see a ton of correspondence pasted into the description of File:The Monument ERECTED TO LUTHER AT WORMS THE 25 JUNE 1868 AFTER THE SKETCH OF RIETSCHEL 01.JPG. - Jmabel ! talk 01:55, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

I recently uploaded an image to the Tortuga Armored Car page and I was given a notice that it would be deleted because it did not have the proper amount of copyright data. I took the picture at a museum and I later checked on another reference for the article the other details of the picture like where it was taken and when. However, I do not know the original author or copyright status. I have add the copyright information and categories which is essentially the same. And there IS significant difference in geometry accuracy, you can clearly see it on full scale . Frost20 (talk)

Category for a certain type of windows

If by taking photos, you mean creating photos yourself with your own camera, you generally shouldn't need anyone's permission to do that. (Theoretically, local bylaws could prohibit photography, but I'd imagine that would be pretty rare.) You can release such photos into the public domain or publish them under a free license, provided that they aren't unauthorised derivative works of someone else's copyrighted work. On the other hand, if by taking photos, you mean using photos created by someone else, then you need the copyright holder's permission to release it into the public domain or publish it under a free license. LX (talk, contribs) 16:43, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
Thank you so much for the answer. It will be photographed by me myself.
But there is another peoblem, my camera (of mobile) is only 5 MP. And the panorama mode gives only 3 MP.
  1. If I photograph myself with my friend's camera, should I need to give attribution to the owner of the cam?
  2. Does a 3Mp picture get some real use?
  3. Will the same applies to tools and instruments inside the college?
— Preceding unsigned comment added by Vanischenu (talk • contribs) 18:38, 12 September 2012‎ (UTC)
  1. No, the ownership of the camera does not affect copyright.
  2. Yes, while we ideally always want the best version available, a 3 megapixel photo would certainly be sufficient for many uses.
  3. Generally, yes. I could see some cases where some areas may be off limits to photography, but that would probably be clearly signposted. If in doubt, ask the institution in question. LX (talk, contribs) 20:20, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
It's always a personal choice; there are risks. But the rule of thumb for me is that very rarely will you get blowback if you take some pictures of stuff, but it's a much safer decision for most people to refuse you permission then to grant it. (Refusing you permission won't generally come back to bite them, whereas granting it might possibly.) So unless it's something like Professor Joe's project, where someone specific might get annoyed (especially if they haven't published yet)--from the other direction, if it's something that just random people can look at--then I wouldn't ask permission. It's easier to ask forgiveness then permission, the old line says.--Prosfilaes (talk) 23:42, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks and you both answered it clearly. By the word tools and instruments, I just meant something like Lathes, Compression molding machine, and such instruments whose name I don't know yet - which can be found everywhere, but seldom at WMF projects.
ResolvedGot the required answers.

Where Can I Find a List with Links to All the Photos I've Uploaded?

Trube Castle

At the top of the page there are headings or menu items titled My Contributions and My Uploads but they fail to contain all of my contributions.

For example, I uploaded this picture a couple of months ago but it doesn't show up in either of the above mentioned menu items. This is one of many. Wiki name (talk) 23:21, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Yes, the reason File:Trube Castle.jpg is not listed in your Special:ListFiles/Wiki name page is because it was overwritten by cropbot (and is thus listed in bot's page). MyUploads only lists files where you have uploaded the latest version. It is still listed in Special:Contributions/Wiki name however.
You can use Gallery tool instead to view your uploads even if they have been overwritten by someone else. MKFI (talk) 07:25, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
In My preferences/gadgets, one can enable this tool; it shows only picture related to last uploader too I think. --Foroa (talk) 08:37, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
Gallery Tool generates pages "on the fly" depending on settings, and because of this shows page 1/? when loaded. Just keep clicking >> to go to the next page. I count 49 files on Special:ListFiles/Wiki name and 62 on Gallery tool. MKFI (talk) 14:06, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
If you don't click too hasty in GalleryTool, and you are at page 3, a statistics button is displayed. GalleryTool is even able to show you each single file revision you've uploaded. (see filtering options) -- Rillke(q?) 21:07, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Pdf documentation from National Register of Historic places - what to do with it

Hi,

I posted this question over at wikipedia teahouse but figured i might as well ask here because it's possible that the solution to my problem will lie in loading the information i have to Commons.

while working on my article on Brow Monument [2] it was suggested that I contact the national register people to see if they had the nomination papers for the monument. they finally got back to me with 23 pages of pdf documentation. This is all very interesting stuff that includes old photos and maps and the nomination information itself. However, all of it is on an in-house server in Washington DC to which the public does not/can not have easy access. it took me over a week to get the files. Any suggestions as to how to handle this pile of information? I believe that the article includes most of the pertinent data (but i'll look over the pdfs to see if there is something missing) but I think the pdfs are extremely useful to anyone wanting to do serious research It is all department of Interior documentation so there should be no problem of it being in the public domain.Abearfellow (talk) 23:23, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

  • If it is, indeed, all public domain, then the PDF can be posted to Commons. However, NRHP nominations often contain a lot of documents (and photos) by people completely unconnected to the federal government who prepared the nomination. Are you sure that isn't the case? - Jmabel ! talk 01:00, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
hello. thanks for the response. I believe that the 23 pages are in the public domain but, obviously, that needs to be confirmed by you. If it makes sense, I would be willing to upload the PDFs to Commons with the understanding that they can be rejected and deleted if you find they are not public domain. my reasoning that they are is that the nomination is done on the National Park Service nomination form. It was prepared by two archeologists who list their organization (section 11) as the Kaibab National Forest. the topo map and drawing (pages 14, 15 have no citations on the pages) the 8 black and white photographs of the site are cited with a photographer's name and the information that the negatives are at the Kaibab National Forest office in Williams, Az. Being a photographer, my understanding is that the inclusion of where the negatives are indicates who owns the photographs - thus they are owned by the National Forest Service and should be considered public domain (just my opinion). Please advise as to how you would like me to proceed. I would love to include these as links to the article. If that is not possible, I will merely reference them in the article so that readers of the article can go request them from the NRHP. thanks again bpolkAbearfellow (talk) 18:06, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
NRHP docs have to be approached with caution, since any authors or photographers who are not on the federal payroll make it non-public domain. The Park Service is in the process of placing all NRHP nominating docs on their servers, but haven't gotten to Arizona yet. There's no reason you can't reference the docs you have in hand as you would for any print source, and when they are finally available on the NRHP Focus site they can be linked. I will note that the great majority of NRHP noms aren't public domain, despite being on a federal form, and the Park Service has confirmed this to me directly when asked. General policy at the NRHP wikiproject on enwiki is to avoid using nomination documents for images and text, only as sources: you might want to check in there (en:WT:NRHP). Acroterion (talk) 18:29, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
thanks much. i will reference them in the article and let people go get them themselves. i'll keep the NRHP site on my list of things to check should they ever show up in pure public domain. Abearfellow (talk) 18:50, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Toolbox issue

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask about this, if not, please feel free to either move it or point me to the right location. On File:EswaranKovilBelur RouteMap.jpg I don't see the many toolbox options that I normally have. However, I see the same toolbox options on at least another five images that I randomly opened after I encountered this issue. Refreshing/bypassing cache don't help either. Is this a problem unique to me or is there a solution? cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 14:33, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Incorrect file name title

This file http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:StateLibQld_1_391589_Bundaberg_Gasworks_under_floodwater,_1983.jpg has an incorrect date in the title. We have corrected it in the State Library's local collections but have had a client request to correct it in Wikipedia. The descriptive metadata has been changed. How do we get the file name changed so that the date is correct?

Kind regards

--Sveintraserud (talk) 18:54, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

  1. "Permission to use the picture on Wikipedia" is not enough: we need a release under a specific "free" license. You didn't specify a license, which is what the bot noticed.
  2. When uploading images by a third party, you need to document permission.
  3. Both of there matters are, I think, pretty clearly covered in COM:OTRS. Have a look there, and then come back here either with further questions or to say you now understand what's needed and we can close this section as "resolved". - Jmabel ! talk 00:13, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi!

I've got a warning on an image regarding it's license: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sabel_m1893_manskap_kavalleri.jpg The page I got it from clearly says "Denna bild skyddas inte längre av upphovsrätt." Link to the site with the image: http://www.digitaltmuseum.se/things/sabel-m1893/S-AM/AM.106208

Japanese keywords to search for files

There seems to be a malfunction in using Japanese words to look for the files whose descriptions are partly or entirely written in Japanese language.

If the searching keyword contains the same letters in the same order as those of the targeted Japanese phrase (without either spaces or any words in other languages between the Japanese letters), the results will be satisfactory because every Japanese context essentially never has any space letter in itself.

However, when the keyword just matches to some parts of the whole phrase, or when it contains not the suffix but only the body of a Japanese file name (e.g. not "あいうえお.jpg" but only "あいうえお"), it will never be successful for the wanted files to appear in the results.

I would like you to make it possible for the searching engine to recognize some fragmentary letters which are the parts of the entire Japanese phrase, and to identify Japanese file names without its suffixes, so that it will be a great help to all the users who have to discover files in Japanese.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.165.220.15 (talk • contribs) 19:15, 23. September 2012‎ (UTC)

The functionality of the search function is determined by the Mediawiki software that this site uses. The usefulness of the functionality you describe would most likely not be limited to Commons. Attempting to contact a photograph contributor

Hi

I would like to contact Matthias v.d. Elbe about the photograph, Bristol 400 Farina.jpg, he posted in May this year, as I am interested from where it was sourced, and any background information. I tried clicking on the 'Talk' link against his name, but it says that the name page has not been created.

The Help Item 54 How to contact a contributor, suggests clicking on Talk link, but when I do it says the user page has not been created, and it invites me to create it. As it is headed Matthias v.d. Elbe, I thought best not to.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AdeB (talk • contribs) 15:21, 27 September 2012‎ (UTC)

According to the file description page, the source of the photo is Matthias' own work, meaning he claims to have created the photograph and edited out the background himself (and I see no particular reason to doubt that). Matthias has not created a user page (User:Matthias v.d. Elbe), but he does have a user talk page: User talk:Matthias v.d. Elbe. He's been active recently, so you'll probably get a response if you write to him there. LX (talk, contribs) 16:25, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Do you mean this image? There is no underlined text for me, the description looks alright, only a bit short. You might want to re-take the photograph without the date tag, however. Scanning the stamp would be even better. I have added a category and added a bit text to the description. I have also corrected the license, as you do not own the copyright in the stamp. You can correct errors in the description by editing the image page, just like you would edit any normal Wikipedia page. --rimshottalk 15:01, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Unfortunately no answer till now ;-) - please help K@rl (talk) 21:07, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
I think this is more a problem with your browser (or whatever program you are using to view the high resolution image) than with how the image is stored on Commons. The EXIF metadata for the file you mention (File:Smolenicky hrad 1.JPG) specifies that its orientation is "Rotated 90° CCW" (or "Right-top"), so programs that understand this field can display it correctly. Programs that don't understand it, will not. On my computer, for instance, Firefox displays the high resolution image incorrectly (lying on its side), but when I save the file and open it with Image Viewer (the default JPG viewing application in Ubuntu) it displays correctly. So I think you should use smarter programs, not change how the file is stored here. --Avenue (talk) 00:34, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Vandalism case?

I have some difficulties to use English, so don't pay attention at my mistakes. And I'm note sure about a place, but I want to report about a vandalism case (as I think). It concerns UploadWizard. At step "Release rights" => "This file is not my own work." => "Another reason not mentioned above" link "copyright tag" (in Russian "указание на авторские права") in Russian language sends user at page "http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Шаблоны_лицензийdeed.ru" instead of "http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Шаблоны_лицензий". That's all. Доктор рукиноги (talk) 09:27, 21 September 2012 (UTC).

The same in Russian is lower.

Inadvertently uploaded photos to wrong location, how do you delete them?

New user. I uploaded several landmark photos from different landmarks to the wrong landmark. How can I delete them from the wrong location? Apc106 (talk) 05:02, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

I was uploading photos, the first two were meant for National Historic Landmark 'Arneytown Historic District', Burlington County, New Jersey. I did not realize that I was not going back to the page to click on the other upload photo button for the photos after, up until the time of the original message sent above. The other files I uploaded have their file names that correspond to the landmark in Burlington County, New Jersey. Also, I tried using talk from my page to answer you back, the file names are listed on it, but I can not find it in talk. I noticed that some of the files that I sent found their way to the correct page for posting, so maybe I am worried about nothing. Thanks Tony Apc106 (talk) 03:03, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Here is a cut and paste of the 'talk' that I thought you would answer to: I started uploading photos to 'Arneytown Historic District', Burlington County, New Jersey, USA. Only the first two photos were for that area. Photos I uploaded after that, without even thinking of going back to the Burlington County page, and then clicking on 'upload photo' for that landmark, were I believe sent to the 'Arneytown Historic District'. But I did notice that the photos that posted at that time made it to the right location. I named the photo files after the landmark location and then also provided it in the description. The files that I kept uploading to "Arneytown Historic District" are: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Amos_Evans_House.JPG http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Amos_Evans_House_Plaque.JPG http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:William_%26_Susan_Evans_House_(5).JPG http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:William_%26_Susan_Evans_House.JPG http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:William_%26_Susan_Evans_House_(7).JPG http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hanover_Furnace.JPG http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hanover_Furnace_(2).JPG http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hanover_Furnace_(1).JPG http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:John_Inskeep_Homestead_(5).JPG http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:John_Inskeep_Homestead_(1).JPG http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:John_Inskeep_Homestead.JPG All of the above are located on the National Historic Landmarks page for New Jersey, Burlington County. Also, at most locations I took numerous photos to show different features or locations in that district, as well as information signage, I am uploading them(not all of them), only the ones that I think may be pertinent, do they show up on that landmarks page? To delete or not to delete

I recently uploaded a picture I scanned from a book which is of an Afrasiab painting. I thought this is the original, however, after comparing it with another picture of the same painting, I'm thinking that this s a modern copy, there are for example a lot more imperfections in that one than the one I uploaded. It could be that the picture had deteriorated but I am doubtful if this is true. I talked with the person who uploaded that picture here, he wasn't sure if mine is a copy. Before I send this file to be deleted, I thought I just ask for another opinion. I'm assuming that a modern copy has a copyright and therefore should not be used here, but let me know if I am mistaken. Axb3 (talk) 16:14, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

I think your upload is definitively a modern copy. But because it is meant to be an exact copy there would be no new copyright.--Funfood 16:40, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. So a simple change in description by adding the words "copy of" should suffice? I was wondering about it might trip up on the "exact copy" criterion since it improves on the original by removing the imperfections. Axb3 (talk) 20:08, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Not that I know of. Apparently, upload log entries in the file history can't be patrolled. I have patroller rights, but I don't see a link to mark this diff (which isn't really a diff) as patrolled even though I see from the patrol log that it isn't patrolled. See bugzilla:9501. public domain images on a web page

If I use a public domain image on a web page does it need to have an image caption with some type of credit?

For example, I want to use an image of a pencil and a piece of paper as a button to a sign up link in the sidebar. If the credit is in the caption, there isn't room to explain what the button is for.

Can this credit be filed somewhere else related to a picture?

173.172.85.27 13:26, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

If the image is really PD, there is no need to credit the author somehow. If the image has a cc-by license you have to credit the author in the way he wants it written in the license template found on the file-site on commons. --Funfood 15:29, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks! Where do I find this cc-by license? I admit that I am still lost enough that looking at all the photo information is a bit confusing for me. Is there a way to search for images that have no cc-by license on this site? 173.172.85.27 16:45, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

I found an image that might match your example: File:Notepad_icon_small.svg. The license is Public Domain, so you can use it in every way you want without any credit. --Funfood 17:36, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

hi

how can i upload photos — Preceding unsigned comment added by Narasimman (talk • contribs) 10:20, 26 September 2012‎ (UTC)

Go to Special:UploadWizard and then read and follow the instructions there. If you have specific questions, you can come back here and ask them. LX (talk, contribs) 10:35, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Graphs

I can not find an appropriate tag (or information on wikimedia on how to deal with the issue) regarding uploads of graphs. I have taken the pdf source of the trajectory on the graph displayed on page 14 in this publication [3], and then made an otherwise self designed graph in an svg file. The reason for doing it this way is that I can not for the life of me find the values to plot a graph between 1950-1970 anywhere. Looking up the relevant copyright laws I found this page from the University of Michigan, which states that "Charts, graphs, and tables are not subject to copyright protection because they do not meet the first requirement for copyright protection" according to Section 102(b) of the Copyright Act.

So my question is, how do I upload the file, is it automatically public domain? or do I tag it as ineglibable? but then, I can not find the relevant template here Template:PD-ineligible#Specific_PD-ineligible_tags. Who to I credit as the author/creater, would that be self made, or do I credit the Dutch bicycle council? --Sertmann (talk) 17:56, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Graphs such as the one on page 14 in the PDF you refer to indeed lack the creative originality required for copyright protection. (A graph with custom 3D effects or other original decorative elements might be a different story.) The generic {{PD-ineligible}} is fine for such graphs, and in such cases, I typically enter "Not applicable; contains no original authorship" in the author field. However, the source code of a handcrafted SVG could be protected by copyright. If that's the case, you'd be the author, and you'd be free to license it or release it into the public domain as you please. LX (talk, contribs) 15:04, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Glitched format?

File:Philomathean Clubhouse (front-closer).png will not display, saying it has over 12.5 million pixels. I cannot download it to see if the error is from the format (.png vs .jpg). How can this be fixed? Thundersnow (talk) 05:20, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

See Commons:Maximum file size#Maximum size for thumbnails. There is no glitch or error in the file, and you should be able to download it just fine by clicking the "Full resolution" link below the preview placeholder. LX (talk, contribs) 05:44, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

--Shmueliart (talk) 19:39, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

If this is your own photograph, we need you to grant a free license that allows any use and modification. CC-BY-SA-3.0 is recommended. If you add {{CC-BY-SA-3.0}} to the file page it will resolve the issue. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:53, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
What do you need help with? It'll be easier to help you if you ask a question. Google Translate tells me that "עיזבון האמן" (the source of the photograph that you've listed) means "estate of the artist". If you did not create the photo yourself, the copyright holder (usually the photographer or the photographer's heirs) will have to agree to publish the photo under a free license that allows anyone to use the photo in modified or unmodified form for any purpose, including commercial purposes, in order for Commons to use it. Please use our standard permission statement and send it in to our permission archive. As the photograph is a derivative work of a sculpture, the copyright for the sculpture also needs to be accounted for. I assume {{FoP-Israel}} applies. I THINK I can, but I thought I'd ask to be sure

I asked a question aten:Wikipedia:Media copyright questions#PD Shape? and I think the response means that I could upload such a file here, but I wanted to be sure. Can the file described be uploaded here? - Purplewowies (talk) 21:51, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

--Sertmann (talk) 11:20, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
File:B-17 group in formation.jpg is a cropped version of File:Living Legends.jpg. The first file description page claims that it's a US Government work, while the second narrows it down to a US Air Force work. Is it really, though? The EXIF and the caption at http://www.af.mil/photos/mediagallery.asp?galleryID=159&page=2 states that it's a "courtesy photo", which implies that it's not a USAF photo, doesn't it? "Copyrighted free use provided that..."

Bit surprised to find that a template exists called "Copyrighted free use provided that", where the uploader can specify any conditions they like. On File:Alexander_Liptak—Coat_of_arms_of_the_Spinolas—2012.png, the uploader overrules signature guidelines by saying that "The signature of the author, which is a mark and right of original authorship, is not to be removed from signed works". Users of the image are also "requested to give the author no less than three months notice of intent". Is this appropriate? Or would we just drop the image as useless if the given conditions crossed a line into "image must have my URL in the corner, you can't edit out the guy's hat, and also you have to contact me before you use it"? --McGeddon (talk) 09:05, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

I think this kind of license is too restrictive for use here. The non removable part should be the attribution, which will not be graphic, but text. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:21, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
I find "This original file which has been provided by the author is that which is to be used in Wikipedia articles; a derivative, modified, remixed and/or subsequent work work may not replace the original file in Wikipedia articles." to be way more cute then any watermark clause. In any case, he's a known pain and I'm taking him to COM:AN/U.--Prosfilaes (talk) 09:39, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Copyright help regarding File:Opus 4 72.jpg

--Funfood 09:16, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Copyright help regarding File:Wappen Turnovszky.jpg

--Manfred Kuzel (talk) 07:36, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

-- Rillke(q?) 11:53, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Copyright help regarding File:Thomas Groß.jpg

Hallo liebes Help desk-Team,

-- Rillke(q?) 12:01, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Exist109....... --Alexander Aster (talk) 14:12, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Ymblanter (talk) 11:48, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
Info: User:Exist109 has never existed on Commons. Apparently, Aster Alexander Aster was blocked on the Russian Wikipedia project as the user wished to change their user name to Exist109 there. The user has then subsequently started uploading files here on Commons under his Alexander Aster user name, all of which have copyright problems. LX (talk, contribs) 12:10, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Upload problems

Hi, i've recently uploaded 2 photos to the featured section to be voted on but when i look at all of the submissions mine are not there. I'm doing something wrong but i can't figure out what. HELPPP!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ba7190 (talk • contribs) 04:49, 29 September 2012‎ (UTC)

I'm not sure what you mean by "uploaded photos to the featured section". You can find a list of all your uploads, including any deleted ones (none of your uploads have been deleted), in your upload log. I see that you've created a nomination page at Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Common Grackle DSCO8983.JPG but didn't link to it from anywhere and that you made this edit to Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list. I don't deal much with the featured picture stuff, so I don't know exactly what you were trying to accomplish, but it seems like you need to re-read the instructions at Commons:Featured picture candidates#Adding a new nomination.
