Autopatrol given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 17:03, 30 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Đại Việt quốc, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Mark Johnson[edit]

Hi!

I'm writing to you because you declined my renaming request for this picture. My renaming request does comply with the guidelines, as the current title has a spelling mistake (Marc Johnson instead of Mark Johnson). Marc Johnson is a jazz bass player, while Mark Johnson (who actually appears in the picture) is a jazz drummer: this mistake caused some Wikipedia pages about the bass player to show a picture of the drummer insted (for example here and here). To further prevent any misunderstandings, I also added the word "drummer" to the title, since the bass player is the more famous of the two musicians. I didn't translate the title, which was in English and still is in English in my renaming request.

I hope this clarified the reason of the renaming request, please ask if you have any doubts. VRP.MICKE (talk) 09:55, 2 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@VRP.MICKE: You mentioned that the drummer in the picture was indeed Mark Johnson and not Marc. Can you provide a reliable source where I can verify this? This file was uploaded in 2008 and since then no one seemed to have any questions about it. Đại Việt quốc (talk) 19:14, 2 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Mark Johnson's official website: you can see that he's the same guy as the drummer in the picture. Marc Johnson, as you can see from his official website, is a white man with no resemblance to anyone in the picture (and also, he's a bass player, not a drummer). The bass player in the picture is Jaribu Shahid, as is already correctly stated in the description.
I think that nobody has ever noticed the mistake because the picture is really small when it appears in the Wikipedia pages, so it's impossible to recognize the musician until you click on it. VRP.MICKE (talk) 20:18, 2 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! It's a wrong identification. There are no known portraits of Jean Nicot. See, for example, this 1978 review by Emil Reznicek of Goltsius' publication: "Strauss 327. Jan Nicquet. ... A French stamp which was issued in 1961 bearing the portrait of Jean Nicot, from whom nicotine took its name, is a curiosity. The engraving by Goltzius was mistakenly used for its model. ... I have not been able to discover an authentic portrait of Nicot". INS Pirat (talk) 22:28, 7 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

See also these sources: Akg-Images [1] ("Jan Nicquet, (Jean) Merchant from Antwerp. ... Formerly erroneously identified as Jean Nicot") and NYPL [2] ("The absence of an actual portrait of Nicot accounts for the wishful thinking seen in the adoption of the Dutch engraver Goltzius's portrait of Nicot's younger contemporary, the Antwerp merchant Jan Nicquet, as a portrait of Nicot"). INS Pirat (talk) 22:40, 7 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@INS Pirat: Hi! This picture is currently used as a portraits of Jean Nicot on several wikis. If possible, can you go ahead and remove all of them? Then I can help you rename this file. Đại Việt quốc (talk) 23:36, 7 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I am personally not going to discuss it in every single wiki. 4 months ago, I removed the picture from the Wikidata item and categorized it properly on Commons. Now, I provided the requested sources. That's enough, as for me. INS Pirat (talk) 18:19, 9 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@INS Pirat: Well then I'm sorry, there's nothing else I can do as for now. If it is still used as the portraits of Jean Nicot on so many wikis like this, I can't just rename it since it will create a whole mess. Đại Việt quốc (talk) 01:36, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What's happening on Wikipedia is not relevant. "Please provide a reliable source". It's your words. And here it is. You're obstructing the correct actions. You're not the only filemover and not obliged to process this specific case. At least, please change the category back to the proper one. --INS Pirat (talk) 02:19, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Tuyệt Tình Cốc - Hải Phòng (31790068486).jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. Partner[edit]

R u active, I'm sorry about what I had done to you in Meta which had defeated you in the fight against Khả Vân, but just forget it. Yesterday for some reason I were instantly blocked by an admin named Phu after 5 days of contributing to Vietnamese Wikipedia with a new account and got defeated by him in conversation using multiple VPNs like what TTS have done before and I'm really weakness and quite embarassed about this, and now I really just want to be your partner, just wanted to ask you could I be this time? If we collaborate, together we can make things happen. DefenderTienMinh07 (talk) 20:28, 31 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@DefenderTienMinh07: Not sure what you meant by "partner" and what you are up to. If you are talking about the viwiki community then I'm sorry. I really do not want to involve in that community anymore. Đại Việt quốc (talk) 02:57, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Vietnam photos[edit]

Why are you replacing photos that I uploaded with the exact same photos from Flickr and then categorizing them as if you had uploaded them? e.g. [File:USN 1108879 Support Facilities, Saigon.jpg: Difference between revisions - Wikimedia Commons] What purpose does this serve? Mztourist (talk) 03:25, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Mztourist: My apologies! I just categorized the pictures that I uploaded, not noticing some were overwriting uploads. Also, those were NOT from Flickr. I downloaded the .TIFF from the original website (which gives me the highest resolution) and converted it back to .JPG Đại Việt quốc (talk) 14:49, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Les.Colonies.françaises.Helio.Sadag.1931.Flammarion.Cochinchine. Cholon. Le canal.jpg[edit]

Hi

Why removing the category Category:Canals in Ho Chi Minh City from this file ?

As far as I remember, "Cholon" in in Ho Chi Minh City ? Or should we create a new category "Canals in Cholon" ? Thanks. Rc1959 (talk) 13:41, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Rc1959: Hi! It is true that Cholon is now in Ho Chi Minh City. However, the canal was filled in the 1930s (by the French) long before the city was renamed Ho Chi Minh City (it is now a boulevard in Cholon). So I think such a categorization is inappropriate. Đại Việt quốc (talk) 13:56, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your answer. Indeed, it makes sense. Do you please have a suggestion. to categorize it as a canal ? For example "Former canals in Vietnam" ? Or maybe add the name of the boulevard ? I let you decide, because you have a very good knowledge of the area. Have a good day. Rc1959 (talk) 14:02, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

TUIBAJAVE[edit]

Thanks for the ping - I appreciate it. In the case of further violations of copyright after a block there are few options really so I have placed another block. If you can get anything positive in the way of a response from TUIBAJAVE I am prepared to reduce it though. Feel free to contact me - best Herby talk thyme 08:14, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Herbythyme: No problem. I will let you know if there's any response from the user. Đại Việt quốc (talk) 10:33, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Herbythyme: Also, it's worth noting that this user uploads a lot photo photos related to nudity. So I'm not sure if it's any kind of violation. Commons:Nudity does not seem to provide a lot of helpful guides. Đại Việt quốc (talk) 06:24, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes - Commons has varying views on such uploads... I guess copyright is the main issue though. Herby talk thyme 12:34, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
