File:Visbyolkarte1.jpg[edit]

Hi Herbathyme, you deleted this file because of copyright violation. It was a retouched version of File:Visbyolkarte.jpg and its copyright should have been perfectly alright. or did I make any licensing mistake? lg, --Grnzi 20:06, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Interesting. You are sort of right and sort of wrong I think!
I deleted it because it failed Flickr review (which is correct) but it certainly is a derivative of the file you point to which we are hosting so I should undelete it.
BUT that other file seems to be doubtful to me. I would think that the copyright would be held by "Svenska Orienteeringsforbundet"? Can you clarify the position on that (& maybe point to their licensing? I'll undelete it for now but the position needs clarifying - thanks --Herby talk thyme 09:03, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well I have to say that I dont know much about flickr's copyright policy and if they have something like an OTRS system. Of course I can't guarantee for another person (the uploader on flickr, Oskarlin) and that he handled everything alright. I am not an expert on copyright questions and I don't know to what extent commons has to make efforts to make sure the original flickr licensing of files like this is correct and to what extend this is the responsibility of the uploader (or flickr?). But I wouldn't have uploaded the file on commons if i had not found it plausible that the license is ok. There are mainly two reasons why i decided to believe this: First, I don't think that the Swedish Orienteering Federation holds the copyright, this would be very unusual. I this they are only the organisators of the event (blue writing, but I have to say I dont speak Swedish), orienteering maps are usually drawn by local clubs/orienteers. And it is to me very plausible that the uploader was at least involved in the creation of the map, because he also upoladed drafts of orienteering maps (like this one) on flickr. Of course this is not a proof, but it seemed to make sense to me. lg, --Grnzi 16:57, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Hum - Flickr really don't bother much (if at all) about valid licensing so that is a worry. Equally Flickr washing is something that happens quite frequently.
One issue I certainly have is that the map is not hand drawn so comparison with the other Flickr uploads isn't that relevant. The copyright on a printed map will be held by someone somewhere - it is a fairly professional map really. It may well be that the club is licensed to use maps but again that would mean someone actual holds teh copyright.
I think the best bet would be to mail the Flickr uploader to see if they can tell you any more about it? Cheers --Herby talk thyme 17:33, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well yes, the official map is of course professional (a normal orienteering map), but nevertheless maps like this are drawn by local clubs (using de:OCAD (Programm)) and the start of drawing such a professional map is a hand-drawn draft like the one uploaded by oskarlin. But of course I know this is no proof, so I will try to contact him, maybe he can send a permission via otrs. --Grnzi 16:33, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
Yes that was my worry - there is something "professional" behind the mapping which is likely to be a copyright thing. Permission would be great though if you can managed to follow it up. Regards --Herby talk thyme 17:11, 26 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How to delete a user page on commons?[edit]

I found out how to delete a user page in de.wikipedia.org and en.wikipedia.org, but not in commons. It seems to be possible, though (see Deletion of User Page, you contributed there), and it should be according to the right to vanish. Do you know how to do it or do you know someone who knows? Shouldn't this be stated somewhere clearly enough? --Nobrook (talk) 11:59, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unless I misunderstood you - ✓ Done I think? (it's just a case of tagging it as a speedy - I confess most projects I find confusing about such things!) Regards --Herby talk thyme 12:02, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I saw you deleted the above mentioned file due to Copyright violation. The file has an OTRS ticket: 2010050510042613 and can be used in any Wikipedia. What's wrong? --Kattivik (talk) 17:25, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Restored - looking into it and apologies if I got it wrong :(. I'll checkout the OTRS ticket. --Herby talk thyme 17:48, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No ticket on the image by the way? --Herby talk thyme 17:50, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ehm.... sorry. Now it should be ok? --Kattivik (talk) 18:02, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nope - sorry but the licensing is not the correct one for Commons. The file is licensed for use on it wipedia and should be tagged "copyright" according to the OTRS ticket. the permission looks quite specific and while my it is not wonderful babelfish does confirm that. So it is fine for it wp but not Commons and I'll delete it again I'm afraid but feel free to use it locally. Regards --Herby talk thyme 18:07, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. In Italian the license says "only for Wikipedia". I am not sure if that includes Commons or not. Since I am the owner of the copyright, how can I license it for usage on Commons? --Kattivik (talk) 18:14, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No problem - checkout COM:OTRS where there are instructions and email according to those instructions. I'll not undelete it for now as someone will only come along and tag it again but feel free to contact me when you get the confirmation. Regards --Herby talk thyme 18:16, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again! Thank you for your help. I have received the following OTRS ticket: 2010112510021766. I tried to upload again the file with the correct OTRS but the system doesn't allow me since there is an identical file that has been deleted. Can you help me? THX! --Kattivik (talk) 14:19, 26 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of user page[edit]

Hello, I see you erased my user page.

Could you please explain to me, how can I have a user page if I can't take about myself? Furthermore, how come you allow users to have a personal page if they can't post anything in them? Thank you

RE: Deletion of user page[edit]

Well, it is obvious your username is connected to the article when you write on your own user page, don't you think? Do you guys get someone else to write on your user pages? In this case, it was a description of the user, a company which specializes itself in worlwide consult session delivered by professionals from different areas of expertise. I guess you guys see a website on a user page and think it is promotional. Again, I don't understand why you allow users to have a user page on the first place.

Thank you, this has been eye opening for me and my fellow workers.

Checkuser[edit]

Without repeating this check or looking at technical evidences, per article editing it looks like a duck. Im 100% convinced that the flickr account used by the first checked user is an flickrwashing account. --Martin H. (talk) 19:36, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Herby, somebody uploaded a bunch of photos of Erykah Badu, but they still bear a watermark. I don't know anything about that kind of thing.. would you be willing to remove it from the following photo for me? The picture of her on en.Wikipedia isn't half as good. It's this one: [1] Thanks so much for being helpful; can you respond on my talk page? Thanks. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 21:43, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to see comments like this[edit]

Hi! I'm sorry to see comments like this [2]. Disagreement is not the same as saying "You are a bad admin". If a user that wanted to be an admis wrote "I do not care about policies and will not follow them." would you support the candidate? Probably not. But if the message was something like "Our policy is not to speedy delete images per out of scope but my opinion is that if it is a really bad images then admins should be allowed to speedy. I have done som myself if I was really sure the image was not usefull. I hope that if you review my deletions you will agree that I was right." then it would be a different signal. I have not reviewed your deletions so I do not know if you have a good judgement.

I left a note on the discussion I linked to above that I think that we should welcome contributions even if they are advertising if the images are good/usefull. So the trick is to find out what we can use and what is crap. If you do your best to make that judgement I see no reason why you should hand over your tools. :-) --MGA73 (talk) 09:52, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but I don't see it like you do. I am considering my position here. --Herby talk thyme 10:29, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

FYI[edit]

I fully support your comment. One thing I really hate from commons is that it seems to me personal attacks, etc. have zero importance here and if you dare to complain about it some people even might laugh on your face... I personally will continue blocking users who violates the civility standards; here and elsewhere. Thanks, --Dferg (talk · meta) 18:13, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Germans (Prussians) are perceived by several other nationalities as rigid and inflexible, overemphasizing order, adhering to the letter of instructions, etcetera. So when Martin H. answered that his slow edit war against three editors that had removed his no-source tag was motivated by "efficiency", I could only see this as due to his cultural background. And that is what I wrote. People here should be a bit more worried about Martin H. accusing uploaders of copyfraud and falsity than about my attempts to keep category:Unknown functional. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 17:31, 5 December 2010 (UTC)"

Suspicious accounts[edit]

Hi Herby,

I suspect that the following accounts, which were created recently with the apparent purpose of supporting certain FPC nominations, are sockpuppets: Odambrosio (talk · contributions · Statistics) and Swissalps (talk · contributions · Statistics). Could you please help? Alvesgaspar (talk) 00:42, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Message notification[edit]

Hi Herbythyme,

This message is regarding a message you sent me today through my user page. I would have preferred to send you this mail on a private setting, but since I did not find your e-mail anywhere, I have to proceed here.

To my understanding, user Alvegaspar accused me of utilizing another user account for voting for my own pictures. This is an accusation that I take as very serious and should be treated accordingly. On the same note, it seems to me (given the message you sent me), that this user convinced you of this suspicion. First hand, I want to let you know that I will not let anyone question my honesty or my integrity. To my understanding I have proceeded in the wikimedia project with full respect of all guidelines.

I believe that if an accusation is brought against another user, the administrator should notify the user accused and undeniable proof should be collected. Absence of any type of reliable proof should cause the accusation to be discarded. It is tremendously dangerous to proceed and act on false suspicions only. This is the way our law system works precisely to avoid unscrupulous people from abusing and damaging the community. Up to this point, no evidence has been shown to me regarding Alvesgaspar's accusation, but evidently you, as an administrator, have already judged the case.

I just started collaborating on the project very recently, and my experience with the behavior of certain users has be very disappointing. You yourself have written on your profile I will block anyone who attacks another user or who places offensive material such as racism. I will therefore want to raise the following requests to your attention:

1. I formally want to denounce Alvesgaspar's behavior as a personal attack against me, and I demand for this user to stop these attacks and to keep his groundless suspicions to himself.

2. I will not tolerate people questioning my integrity, I don't have to put up with this kind of treatment. Hence, I notify you that I will withdraw all my current nominations, request the deletions of all my images, and once this is done I very respectfully ask you to please delete this user account. This situation makes me feel tremendously offended and insulted, I do not want to participate in the project anymore.

Thank you for reading my message and proceeding fairly and accordingly.

--Murdockcrc (talk) 16:58, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please read the earlier posting to me very carefully. No accusation is made against you at all. I am looking into the matter. --Herby talk thyme 17:37, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your quick reply. The reason why I believe there is indeed an accusation (and already a judgement made) is because of this communication. What other interpretation could I give to those words? Kind regards, --Murdockcrc (talk) 18:28, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Murdockcrc: please don't kill the messenger. You were the one inviting us to investigate the matter, and so we did! The fact that you asked for it was a strong hint that you were not the responsable! Yes, I was suspicious of those two accounts (anyone would be, under those circumstances), but no, did not conclude they were your responsability. As Herbythyme points out, I was very careful in my message to him, so that no wrong interpretations could be made. And he did remove that offending text, didn't he? If you consider that you have enemies here, they are probably the puppeter(s) who created those accounts, not me, Herbythyme or the users who commented the case. -- Alvesgaspar (talk) 19:08, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This DR[edit]

As an uninvolved Admin, do you have any views on this DR? The thing is this uploader uploaded 2 images--this photo and one other image from the same flickr account--and I don't know if the source flickr account owner truly holds the image rights as the uploader claims. I suspect it is a flickrwash sadly and doubt the flickr account owner can give a legitimate OTRS permission. Should the DR be closed as delete or would you like to leave a brief message at the uploader's talkpage. If nothing happens, I suspect this may lie in a DR backlog. I have not DR'ed the other image but share similar concerns. Thank You in advance, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:58, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree completely with the answer that Martin has given you on your talk page. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 08:51, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please could you kindly explain the reason why you needed to delete the above and other similar images of 3D books? I understood that pictures of groups of books seen in 3D were acceptable? If not, please could you provide a link to the WP copyright page, for my future reference. Thank you.--Storye book (talk) 16:20, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'd prefer you to point me to where it says 3D books are acceptable?
Any book cover has a copyright on it unless it is very old or explicitly licensed. If not directly copyright violations they would be violations by being derivatives to me. --Herby talk thyme 16:44, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I would add that you should have at least been notified by the person who tagged them (not me) and it is a pity you were not. --Herby talk thyme 16:45, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the information. What if I take the dustjackets (printed paper covers) off the all books and re-photograph the pile of books in hard covers? Would you be happy with that?--Storye book (talk) 18:53, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You would be better seeking a wider opinion on that but I think that would probably be ok - any text visible would be plain text and so not copyrightable. Worth giving it a try maybe. Regards --Herby talk thyme 08:58, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I have now re-photographed the books without the dustjackets. The books are closed, so no print can be visible. File:Will Scott The Cherrys series 001b.jpg Those old hardback books had no text or illustrations on the hard covers.--Storye book (talk) 14:39, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes - looks like it should be ok - I'll certainly not delete them. Regards --Herby talk thyme 17:10, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you.--Storye book (talk) 18:45, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Explain, please[edit]

What are you talking about? What's wrong?

--BizzKid (talk) 20:04, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe read all the postings on your talk page - they will inform you and are intended to. However in simple terms please stop uploading images that are copyright violations. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 08:59, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I read them two weeks ago and drew a conclusion. I mean, what pictures exactly are you talking about. I consider recently uploaded pictures to be ok. Am I wrong? --BizzKid (talk) 20:12, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The new ones look ok but the "game" images were not - just make sure you do keep an eye on copyright/licensing on what you upload and it will be fine - thanks --Herby talk thyme 10:12, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

PD-textlogo deletion[edit]

Hi Herby, A user was hoping I would intervene to stop the deletion of an image that you soon deleted. Could you please join the discussion on my talk page here? It seems to me that that image could have been covered by PD-textlogo, since it did seem quite simple. 99of9 (talk) 10:38, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You deleted the file mentioned above on February 2 as copyright violation. Why? The file was properly licensed on de-WP and then moved to Commons. --Eva K. is evil 16:37, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Clearly tagged as such and every look of a copyright violation. However I've undeleted it for now to give the opportunity of review. Everything has slowed down on wiki recently (I assume because of the software updates!) so reviewing stuff is painfully slow. I (& others I'm sure) will look closer. --Herby talk thyme 16:50, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
After ec and reviewing the site - I see nothing on that site to suggest it is actually pd? --Herby talk thyme 16:50, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The website has a clear copyright note on it - where is the information that it is PD? --Herby talk thyme 16:54, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for undeleting the file. Sadly I cannot reach the original uploader because he was only active in January 2006 for some edits. But it seems that the Uploader PatrickP is the owner of u-bahnbilder.de, cf. the imprint. I will check the image and if it is a copyvio I will drop you a note that you can shoot it again. --Eva K. is evil 17:57, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I've just sent the webmaster an e-mail and asked him to contact OTRS. --Eva K. is evil 18:13, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like it is sorted now :) Regards --Herby talk thyme 08:54, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Leonora Christina[edit]

How can this picture be deleted, without answering the evidence I placed on the discussion page? Austal has written that they release the picture with CC-BY-SA 3.0 and I have made that clear, by pointing out to OTRS.
Therefore I can't accept the deletion, other then thatyou present me the evidence that states the contrary.
The email I received from Austal was presented on [File:Leonora Christina Launch.jpg].
I was requested by email to make a protest, in order to avoid speedy deletion. So that's why I wrote both on the discussion page of the file, as on the discussion page of the nominator: User talk:Sreejithk2000‎.
So please, What is going on? I haven't received a message from either you or him. --Rodejong (talk) 21:18, 18 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Very simply - I read the OTRS ticket and permission was declined I'm afraid to say - sorry about that but there is nothing else can be done. --Herby talk thyme 09:17, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Dart[edit]

Umm... quick query. I know File:Moorings on River Dart,Totnes - geograph.org.uk - 341766.jpg is on the smaller one that goes to the west of Vire Island. What I'm not sure on is if Vire Island is an island or not?--Nilfanion (talk) 23:56, 18 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

User Nfjb[edit]

You helpfully deleted some of this user's copyvios, but I believe everything he ever uploaded is stolen. He also used another username, the contributions of which are all very dubious. I started a conversation here, if you would care to give it a lookover. Best, Mr.choppers (talk) 18:14, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You will see I've already commented on the admin board - still dealing with it. --Herby talk thyme 18:15, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again, could I get a delete on some more of these files? Maybe I should attempt to become an admin instead of bothering you about every little thing. I found the original of one shot (File:IDTAG1963.png) and the user helpfully incriminated himself on another (File talk:Kalmar.png), but I guess there is a backlog as none of them have been deleted yet. The user in question also admitted that all his photos (at least the ones used in en:Volvo Halifax Assembly) were copyvios, when he himself deleted them all upon my request for that very reason (here, 99.244.224.73 is his IP address). Thanks and best regards, Mr.choppers (talk) 07:14, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Vitali Klitschko vs. Odlanier Solis poster[edit]

Yeah I know that, and it is not on purpose I do it. As you may can see, i am new here so i do not know how do upload pictures in the right way. I see all the time that there are poster of boxing fights on wikipedia, and they are somehow uploaded correctly. How do I upload and make the picture legal. If you look at wikipedia, you can see that there are many boxing posters of Manny Pacquiao.

It may well be that the ones on wikipedia are fair use ones which are not acceptable here I'm afraid. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 08:53, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That means, that I have to get the Klitschko brothers permissions to upload a boxing poster of them?? - david-golota

If you can get the actual copyright holder(s) to authorise the licensing via OTRS that would be great. --Herby talk thyme 16:58, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Would you take a look at this, please? We've got a complex IP question and an OTRS volunteer who is asserting nonsense and refuses to say who the permission is from -- just that it's sufficent.

BTW, if you've never seen Alfred E. Neuman, he was an iconic figure in the USA in the fifties and sixties -- much less so now, but Mad Magazine is still turning out issues. Thanks,      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 14:27, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sadly I do not speak Polish (?) however the page you created was a text page (with links). Commons does not have text pages but host (mostly) images. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 16:33, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Would you please check User:Eddy1988 against User:Zarbi? The two both claim that Zarbi took the subject image and that Eddy1988 uploaded it at Zarbi's request. Credible so far, but

both claim that Eddy1988 uploaded those files at the request of Diwan. It is certainly possible that Eddy1988 has done this twice, but he's only uploaded six files and half of them are for someone else? Also look at User:Zarbi. We have a brand new user -- four edits -- with babelboxes and flags on his user page?

Of course if Eddy1988 is Zarbi, the files aren't a problem as nominated because author=uploader, but it raises other questions.....

Thanks,      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 12:07, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but I can't use CU for the current year really as I'm ombudsman. I agree with your thoughts though - try Martin or put in an actual CU req? --Herby talk thyme 14:39, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Query[edit]

Could you just have a look at a couple admin actions for me specifically the ones at [5] and [6]? There's few about this that trouble me, and I'd appreciate the second opinion before I go to the AN.--Nilfanion (talk) 23:12, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Quick look - the wrong one got deleted? I am sure that happens from time to time. However the naming of the one that remained could be argued as "better English"? --Herby talk thyme 09:09, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My concern really is that deletion policy regarding duplicates is flawed, and that a similar problem may have occurred on hundreds of files. It only considers the image, not any metadata. And that deletion was in December, when policy then (and now) clearly says "create redirects". In this case, metadata was lost and a 2 year old validly named file was deleted and not redirected, precisely the sort of thing the file rename rules foribd.--Nilfanion (talk) 11:18, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I certainly agree with that. Loosing the metadata is plainly wrong. --Herby talk thyme 16:09, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking Fernrohr's IP[edit]

http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&type=block&page=User:84.61.170.180

I can't see the point of this block. Her IP is allocated dynamically, so she isn't affected by this block in any way (perhaps this is why complaints about 84.61.155.241 were left unanswered). A whole ISP rangeblock is out of the question, right? So she just restarts connection and deletes more from another IP. The village may burn, but the village clown persists.

NVO (talk) 08:08, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In a word "correct" as far as I can see. --Herby talk thyme 08:26, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh - and the point of my block was that they were active on that IP at the time - that is what blocks are for. --Herby talk thyme 08:27, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Moving and editing of Atlases by User:23prootie[edit]

Is my post on the right notice board?

Most of these edits in question are from January 2011 and has been move atlases to native names for months User:23prootie has changed the Atlas of British Indian Ocean Territory Introduction and Name to reflect a Chagossian biased slant and moved said atlas to Atlas of the Chagos Archipelago,

Here are the other Atlases that have been changed to a biased slant:

Atlas of the Paracel Islands

Atlas of Muslim Mindanao

Atlas of the Spratly Islands

I don't know how to fix this without messing up said Atlases BionicWilliam (talk) 04:40, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Berdzor[edit]

Good morning. I've uploaded an image [[File:Berdzor057.JPG]]. This photo I've made during my trip to Nagorno-Karabakh in august 2010 and I've fullfilled a description from information, tooked from local visitors of the monument. User:Melikov Memmed have reverted my description of the file and proposed his description (it's totally differs from my description). User:Marshal Baghramyanen warned him that if he want to change the description, he must proof it. But he only says that it is written in "Encyclopaedia of Soviet Azerbaijan, article Lachin" (Lachin is the old name of the city Berdzor) and that he was born in this city. I've also proposed him to stop revert the description and to give the proof, but he persistently don't want to stop reverting, to give reliable sources and continues his disruptive edits. Please help to solve this unpleasant situation. Thanks in advance. --Ліонкінг (talk) 08:19, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File:LG Optimus 7.jpg[edit]

I do not understand why my image was deleted. It is available in Flickr under the Attribution License. Illegal Operation (talk) 22:54, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The version I deleted (in December last year) had an obvious watermark on suggesting that it was not likely to be freely licensed. Flickr is not the best place to look for correctly licensed images sometimes. --Herby talk thyme 15:41, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding User:AJona1992[edit]

Hi, a Selena article was nominated by AJona1992 over at eng DYK and after checking out the picture, File:Room 158 of the Days Inn.jpg, it is a direct copy of an image at the Caller.com image archives. I have tagged that image, but these [7] are also copies from that website [8] and Flickr (non-free) [9][10]. This user seems to have had some issues in the past. Rollback[edit]

Hi, you pinged me on my Talk page almost a year ago about getting Rollback. Not sure what the criteria are on Commons, but I had it (as an Admin and otherwise) on en:wp without any problems. I am now back in action and want to get back to work here. This will include reducing backlogs (as on my userpage) and dealing with vandalism, which is mostly what I did on en:wp. Your comments would be helpful. Cheers. Rodhullandemu (talk) 02:21, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This DR[edit]

Admin MBisanz once told me that FOP issues gave him a headache but I have not been in contact with Matt for a long time. But I think he is correct judging from this DR. Since I have never communicated with you before, unlike Abigor (when he was an Admin), Kanonkas, Lupo, MGA73, could you just briefly make a reply in this DR saying if this image of a sculpture in Shkodër, Albania, can or cannot be kept on Commons. I have said No according to Albanian statute but the discussion is running into many tangents...German law, Albanian law, US law...and I don't know what to say as a Canadian sadly. If you can say anything as an experienced Admin, please do here. Thank You, Admin Herbythyme, --Leoboudv (talk) 00:26, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder why Sigma1986 is still unblocked. He did upload pictures of "private parts" of a very underage girl. DictaBeard (talk) 19:33, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As I have had no dealings with this user and know nothing about the case as far as I know I suggest you try the admin board. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 07:44, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Open proxy[edit]

Hi Herby, can you take a look at 93.189.5.138 as well? same user who vandalizes but I have no ideal how to check for open proxy :/ 3 global edits and one is obviously vandalism. Thanks in advance --Ben.MQ (talk) 12:47, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I just changed that one too :) If you "watch" Commons:Open proxy detection it is probably easiest (the same page is on a number of other projects too). Personally if they disrupt I hard block (uncheck anon only) for a year. Regards --Herby talk thyme 13:02, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

CSD denial[edit]

Why did you deny the deletion of File:Hand history.jpg and File:Tournament summary.jpg? According to User_talk:TonyTheTiger#More_poker_pictures (the original uploader on enwiki), he clearly wants them deleted. Also the other 2 files that I tagged but were never deleted.Train2104 (talk) 21:13, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Simple - once freely licensed images cannot be speedily deleted because the user has changed their mind. A full deletion request is fine but not speedy. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 08:33, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request for nomination[edit]

Hi, can you please do me a favor, I wanted to nominate this image for FPC but I can't do it myself as currently I have two other open nominations, can you please candidate it for me and then I'll add other information, I was looking at previous nomination and your name was first familiar name in the supporters list who is still active in Commons. it is important for me to nominate it before closing of the FPC at en.wiki. I understand if you can't candidate this image and it is absolutely fine with me. cheers.   ■ MMXX  talk  20:15, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nice piccy :) However I decided a fair while back to avoid the lunacy of such aspects of Commons and I'll stick with that policy I'm afraid. I wish you well with it though. Regards --Herby talk thyme 07:47, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's OK, apparently I should still improve it, it's better if I fix it before nomination or maybe I made something else with more EV, thanks anyway.   ■ MMXX  talk  11:28, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I just got an e-mail saying that my page had been changed and then moments later another one saying you'd changed it back. Thanks for looking after my user talk page. :-) -- PoliMaster talk/spy 15:50, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No worries - just the usual "dealing with idiots" :) --Herby talk thyme 15:51, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This idiot also needs dealing with, can my talk page be semi-protected again by any chance. Looks like the vandal spree has begun again. -- PoliMaster talk/spy 15:54, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yep - blocked and page protected for a bit. Get bored with "whack a mole" sometimes even if it keeps my stats up ...:) --Herby talk thyme 16:00, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't why I am continuously being targeted here. I have also been idle for a couple of days. Any ideas? :) -- PoliMaster talk/spy 16:03, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You are seeking logic in the behaviour of a destructive fool... I imagine only another of them would be able to explain that logic! More seriously - once you have annoyed one of these folk they tend to re-occur like untreated illnesses ;) --Herby talk thyme 16:12, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

hello[edit]

I'm not an administrator, and i'm not as much experienced on commons as i am with WPs. Commons' userpages are less often used for autopromotion, so this project lacks policies or habits of dealing with such troubles. I know a bunch of commonists use their user page for a little of promotion/advertising their work etc and it's tolerable. But this user is not here to contribute to commons, he's using 100% of his contributions to promote himself and his past life, and transform his user page into a curriculum vitae that looks like Wikipedia's articles.

Maybe you can inform other admins that you are willing to delete the advertising on his userpage in few days, and deleting his uploads as they are obviously copyvios (scan of publications of which he's not author but subject), unless this contributor starts speaking and explain himself or listen to explanations. And see what other admins think about it. --Lilyu (talk) 10:13, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I can also translate in french whatever warning you would like to give to this user.--Lilyu (talk) 10:15, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, same problem with this user : User:Apalon pss, who think his userpage is wikipedia. --Lilyu (talk) 12:04, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I doubt he will answer... he never talked on french wikipedia, he was warned there and his user page was blancked (with a warning message) and blocked, as you have probably seen.
I know it's a pity, but it's impossible to explain him anything if he doesn't talk...--Lilyu (talk) 12:42, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, i meant the user page on fr is blocked.
Sure, just write in english on his user page, and i'll translate.--Lilyu (talk) 19:18, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dodgy uploads from en[edit]

Not sure who to ask about this one - see Commons:Deletion requests/Flags of Dominican Republic towns and regions, which appear to be junk to me...

It would be useful to know which of the original uploaders to en.wikipedia are a sock of w:User:MDRU08, as good-faith users did the transfers to Commons its harder to tell who uploaded what... (its all deletion fodder of course)--Nilfanion (talk) 19:21, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mail shortly :) --Herby talk thyme 11:59, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

de nada - if you think I miss something (I did) you know what to do. Time is short mostly. --Herby talk thyme 10:25, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Avaya Images[edit]

I have started to upload new sourced images. I uploaded the file and then went back and removed the delete tag. Is this how you want the resolution accomplished? Geek2003 (talk) 14:59, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand how this works. If I upload the pictures to a new file name that is not the name of the product then the picture and the file are not correct and hundreds of links on other language wiki pages will break when the original picture is delete. Geek2003 (talk) 15:37, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know how to use a "bot" but I am always open to learning new tools. Will you help me through this process? Also, I am planning to get better pictures with a new camera that I just got and do some professional editing to make the pictures better and upload them to replace the ones that I am uploading now, will I have to go through all this work and re-upload to a new name again? Seems very inefficient... Geek2003 (talk) 16:02, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I just tried to upload the new picture of the 8692SF with both the .JPG and .jpg and both give me the error - There is another file already on the site with the same content. Geek2003 (talk) 16:56, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unfair and Confused[edit]

Hello, I recently discovered you deleted my page that I worked very hard on, I am new to wikimedia and wikipedia so im not really clear on a lot of the "precautions" I have to take, but I would like to know why my page has been deleted. It was made for myself as reference at a job interview coming very soon, and I needed to have it on hand, all the pictures I posted are mine, and taken by my crew, and all the logos that I used were made by my design team, for me, and my businesses in the article, I would really just like to know why you deleted it or why is nominated for deletion, which ever, I think I deserve answers

Thank you Ricardo Cordero

File:SA Partridge profile.jpg[edit]

Hi there,

I uploaded this photo to an article I submitted on Wiki, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.A._Partridge , and it got removed because of a copyright violation. The photo was taken by myself and I uploaded it with creative common licence agreement.

How can the image be added again?

Thanks in advance, Charl

EDIT I have sent through the email request to COM:OTRS

Thanks.
