Welcome to Wikimedia Commons, PumpkinButter!

File:Sourgrapes.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Pay attention to copyright
File:Overthrow.png has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Thanks for uploading File:Fifthestate.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Fifthestate.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Yes... that is my blog. I am the one who uploaded that, my own work to my own blog. Do I have to prove its my blog too? This is all very maddening and not participant-friendly. PumpkinButter (talk) 14:43, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Files which are deleted from Commons are not technically gone forever, but rather are only hidden from public view and can be "undeleted" if the issues which lead to their deletion are eventually resolved. If you believe that this or any other files were deleted in error, then the thing to do would be to discuss your concerns with the administrator who deleted the file. You typically found out who that is by clicking on the red linked file name and checking the deletion/move log. In this case, both files were reveiwed and deleted by an administrator named Taivo, so you can post something at User talk:Taivo if you want further clarification.
Just for reference, it is the photographer who takes the photo or the artist who creates a poster who are generally considered to be the copyright holders of such things. Many people post photos, etc. online, but this does not mean that there has been an official transfer of copyright or that they or the website where they posted are now considered the copyright holders. So, unless it can be shown that the website and the original copyright holder are one and the same, Commons is going to treat the content as fair use and not accept it unless it can be verified by OTRS to have been released under a license suitable for Commons. The same goes for photos taken of posters or other types of copyrighted content. The photographer may claim copyright ownership of the photo they took as derivative work, but the copyright status of the underlying work also needs to be considered. So, once again, unless the photographer is also the same person who created the poster, etc. being photographed, permission of the artist who created the poster is going to typically be needed. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:20, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that. Fact: I am the person who designed the actual silkscreen for the Pittsburgh poster .... and did the graphic design (peel, cut and paste the letters, very old school and time-consuming) for both posters... both are MINE in *every way*. I even helped run the offset press (read: Offset printing) that printed the OSU poster, which was owned by the Yippies in the community center in Columbus, OH. When I say something is mine, I mean that. Likewise, I took the actual photo of Joy Ryder on the Overthrow cover that was refused. People on Wikipedia keep explaining to me that things are not mine--but I am 60 years old, and yeah, I understand what yall are saying, but really, I AM that old, and the whole reason I kept this stuff so long is that *I* did them and I am proud of them. Very frustrating. PumpkinButter (talk) 00:49, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
First of all, nobody is trying to frustrate you, but please try and understand that lots of people upload files they claim to own to Commons without providing any way to verify such ownership. A free license is non-revocable and basically is giving anyone anywhere in the world advance permission to dowload and use the file for any purpose (including commerical); so, Commons requires some sort of official verification whenever there is any reasonable doubt and files whose ownership cannot be verified are often deleted per Commons:Project scope/Precautionary principle. This is done not only to protect Commons, but also the rights of copyright holders. This means that occasionally files may be deleted to err on the side of caution. If you are the original copyright holder/content creator of any of the files which were deleted, then explain this to the deleting administraor and see what they recommend. It is possible you might be asked to provide a more formal official declaration by email to OTRS as explained in COM:OTRS#Licensing images: when do I contact OTRS?. As for who you are out in the real world and what are facts about you, there's no way for anyone to know that because Commons accounts are essentially anonymous and a person can claim to be anyone/anything they want to be (read en:On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog). This is why when it comes to copyright related matters, Commons often is very cautious and requires more formal verification. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:43, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS tickets[edit]

Aloha! I processed all the tickets. What a mess. %Þ. I also sent you an email regarding ticket:2017101010010679, you need to respond in order to get the smoke in poster back. So far, I restored these files:

Let me know if there's more coming, or if you need any help.

Forgot to mention: I created the Category:Steve Conliff. Do you happen to know where he was born / died? --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 14:36, 28 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I got one more! File:SteveConliff3.png thank you so much! And thank you *also* for creating a category for Conliff; I loved the man!!! BTW I finished the whole page on him and I am proud as punch: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Conliff Its *all* there... I think his sons wanted mentioned by name, but their mom will have to rule on that one.  :) I actually still had the original news clippings from when he ran for governor. (am I old or what?) PumpkinButter (talk) 18:31, 28 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Age is relative. :-)) Rember that you can't upload newspaper clippings here without permission from the newspaper and/or their photographer. SOME of your clippings MAY qualify for fair use on the enwiki. E.g. some may illustrate the bid for gov. and you may be able to add one to the article of Conliff. See w:en:Wikipedia:Non-free content. I send you an email using OTRS. Cheers! --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 01:26, 30 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
