pt translation of CommonsHelper

Hello Magnus,

A pt.wikipedia user noted that CommonsHelper is only partially translated to Portuguese. It would be very useful to pt-speakers if there was a full translation. Is there a way to do this online or you have to give a list of messages that need translation? I'm willing to do them but I want to know what should I translate :). Cheers, Patrícia msg 20:18, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi! See this page that (presumably) says what to do. The translations are here. --Magnus Manske (talk) 19:14, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Can you tell that to your Commonshelper?

CommonsHelper and Serbian Wikipedia

Hello. CommonsHelper can't recognize image tags from Serbian Wikipedia. Can You add this feature to your script? --BokicaK (talk) 15:23, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

P.S. Link https://jira.ts.wikimedia.org/browse/MAGNUS is not working now, so I had to do this in this way. --BokicaK (talk) 15:25, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, if you tell me which Serbian template translates to which Commons template, then yes. Also (jusr checking), I take it Serbian has the "sr" code? --Magnus Manske (talk) 19:21, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
Here are they:

File:Nucleus ER golgi.jpg

Hi there - there's a request on Wikipedia's Graphic Lab to convert your file File:Nucleus ER golgi.jpg to a vector file. You said on the page that you still have the CorelDraw file around. Could you possibly get that to me so we can put it up and replace the JPG? Thanks! Mononomic (talk) 14:37, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

I am looking, but I might have left the CorelDraw file back in Germany when I moved to the UK. I'll notify you on your talk page when I find it. --Magnus Manske (talk) 20:15, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
File:Mainzer Tor Koblenz.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Images needing categories

Magnus, I am going through all the Category:Media needing categories and on September 05 there are about 21,000 errant images. I discovered most of them are scans of an encyclopedia with the direct category link LA2-Blitz with the double { } symbols and Uncategorized|year=2008|month=September|day=5 Is it possible for a Bot to replace all of this with the correct Category Category:Meyers Blitz-Lexikon as now it shows up within the Category but also states that it is uncategorized. I don't know anything about Bots but it would speed up my editing. WayneRay (talk) 20:25, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Hm, I don't see links to, or images in, category:LA2-Blitz. Seaching for "LA2-Blitz" gives me some images, but the ones I looked at all had "Meyers Blitz-Lexikon" as category. Could you give me a link to the category, or to one example image? --Magnus Manske (talk) 20:14, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Bildtankstelle

ChristianBier (talk) 04:54, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Administrative notice

Deutsch

Dear Magnus Manske/Archive 5. I am writing to you to inform you that because of inactivity, you may lose your adminship on Commons.

Commons has a new policy on admin activity, Commons:Administrators/De-adminship, taken into use on June 13, 2007 (after a two-week poll on the proposed policy's talk page).

If you want to keep your adminship, you have to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section within 30 days. Note that if you don't make 5 admin actions in the following 5 months, you will then lose the adminship anyways.

Thank you — Mike.lifeguard 16:57, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

You know, that this is kind off ridiculous, right? --Flominator (talk) 19:54, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

File names

Hi Magnus, I need help in changing 3 file names: File:Dominicus Custos09.jpg to File:Jan Saenredam09.jpg and the same for File:Dominicus Custos10.jpg and File:Dominicus Custos11.jpg. It turned out that I was wrong about the engraver responsible. Is there a simple way of doing it myself or can it only be done by high-priests? Sounds too roundabout for words......This is just a question of attaching a new name to the same bunch of data - if there is no simple routine for doing that then it's time for someone to write such a routine. ciaoRotational (talk) 19:41, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

A feature for GeoHack

Hi!

I am so sorry to post this here; I tried to use the JIRA system, as you advice at the beginning of this page, but I wasn't able to find how to post a feature request (and GeoHack does not seem to be part of the listed tools).

Maybe you know the template GeoGroupTemplate on Wikipedia (if you do not know what it is, you can read the documentation for explanations, because it will better than any of my attempts to explain it, since English is not my mother langage).

So, recently, a new link has been added to this template. As for now, there are five ones, and I think more and more useful links can still be found (others microformats, other services of visualisation, etc.). But I don't think it is good to have so much links in articles, and I think it would be better to list them on a different page, like GeoHack does for coord.

The idea would be to be able, for example in en:List of abbeys and priories in England, to make a link like http://stable.toolserver.org/geohack/geohack.php?pagename=List_of_abbeys_and_priories_in_England&language=en (no coordinate, just a pagename and a projet code), and it would lead to a page where the reader could find the current content of (the pattern beeing taken from w:Template:GeoTemplate/Group, for example).

Do you think it would be possible? Maybe I am not clear enough, but I think it would be very useful. You can answer here, I do not have any account.

Thanks. 83.194.211.11 14:01, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

This should do? --Magnus Manske (talk) 21:06, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Yes, that's exactly it! Great you did it so fast, I didn't think I would get such a quick answer and solution, so thank you very much!
Just a question: so as to enable it in other languages (with language=fr for example (yes, I come from the French Wikipedia :-))), which template has to be created locally? Or is it impossible yet, since it is still in test? Anyway, localization can wait much more than the tool itself, as I guess you have very much work to do for other projects! ;-) 83.194.211.11 12:54, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Sorry to bother :/, but there is a problem with the encoding of the title of the page, which results in an error in Google Maps, but not in Live Maps, nor in KML and GeoRSS export. Strange! Maybe $$PAGETITLE$$ should give Template:MonasticHouses+Cheshire+England ( style) rather than Template:MonasticHouses_Cheshire_England, I don't know.
By the way, for the localization, we will need a $$LANGUAGE$$ parameter to pass it to http://toolserver.org/~para/cgi-bin/kmlexport?project=.
But these minor problems can wait! 83.194.211.11 13:42, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

OK:

  • $$PAGETITLE$$ now generates an urlencoded string
  • For other languages/projects, the "source" template can now be specified with the URL parameter "&template=". It defaults to Template:GeoTemplate/Group. Use "language=" and "project=" for the respective site setting.
  • Available variables:
    • $$NICEPAGETITLE$$
    • $$PAGETITLE$$
    • $$LANGUAGE$$
    • $$PROJECT$$

That should cover most of your requests :-) --Magnus Manske (talk) 20:20, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

I don't know did you notice my answer? Should I do something more? --BokicaK (talk) 09:38, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

D'oh! I somehow missed that! I just updated commonshelper, please tell me if it all works now as expected. --Magnus Manske (talk) 21:56, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Well, only problem is the script does not accept non-ASCII characters, so we have to anglicize licenses (јв-ја -> PD-self, etc.) before uploading to Commons, but anyway, it is big step forward. Thanks, dude.--BokicaK (talk) 10:54, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

PD-self problems

Hi Magnus the following question is at the village pump:

I'm not sure where to write this but I think here is correct. I noticed that over on en.Wikipedia, SmackBot has been adding date tags to the template pd-self, such as this one:[1]. However, when coming to transfer one of these images over to Commons, the Commons Helper Tool didn't do it correctly. Instead of changing it to "en, it just left it the same. Is this just a one off or does something need to be changed? Arriva436talk/contribs 18:08, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Could you change CommonsHelper to understand this? Thank you, Multichill (talk) 15:42, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi Magnus, you don't seem to be very active lately. Maybe you should move some of your tools to the stable toolserver so more people can fix bugs and improve the tools? The fix for this is probably:
< $license = str_replace ( 'PD-self' , .$language. , $license ) ;
> $license = preg_replace ( '\{\{PD-self(\|date\=[\w\s]+)?\}\}' , .$language. , $license ) ;
Multichill (talk) 15:19, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
I'll get to that soon, thanks! I'd love to move some of my tools to the stable tooserver, but I'd need other people to become co-developers (a stable project needs at least two maintainers, AFAIK). That's basically the only thing keeping me from doing this. --Magnus Manske (talk) 17:01, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
OK, done. FWIW, you forgot the two // - always a favourite to miss ;-)
$license = preg_replace ( '/\{\{PD-self(\|date\=[\w\s]+)?\}\}/' , .$language. , $license ) ;
--Magnus Manske (talk) 20:03, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing! I'm used to using regular expressions in python (tested it using replace.py) and in python you don't have to use the // :-). I'm willing to be co-dev for Commonshelper if you're willing to move that tool to the stable toolserver. Do you plan on going to the dev meet in Berlin? We could talk it through of there. Something else, do you know why this happens? I changed the information template at zh wikipedia to the regular information template before transfer, Multichill (talk) 21:28, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Data conversion from national "Information" templates

Hi. Several Czech wikipedians do use the CommonsHelper to moving of images from cs:wikipedia to Commons. I have noticed that the bot cannot read the Czech information template cs:Šablona:Popis souboru though it is compatible with the Information template in principle. Thus it does happen systematic losses and falsification of data. The taken date of photogragh was lost and replaced by date of first upload in thousands of cases. Also the name of author was lost and replaced by uploader's nick only mostly. I think, the date of the first-upload and the uploader's nick should be additional and compensatory indications and they cannot substitute the taken-date and the author's name full-valuely.

At the Czech Wikipedia rest around about 1,500 photos only today. But there are many Wikipedias, where rest tens of thousands images still. I think, it could have been efficient and simple, to teach the bot to read and to transfer all language versions of "Information" template (or most of them at least – the number of them is 26 today). List of them is available as interwikis at cs:Šablona:Popis souboru page. --ŠJů (talk) 13:26, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Well, I don't speak Czech, so I have to assume that "popis" is description, "zdroj" is source, and "povolení" is permission. I've added this to CommonsHelper, and it should work now. --Magnus Manske (talk) 20:00, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
You are right. Additonaly, "jiné verze" is "other versions". --ŠJů (talk) 21:25, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Remarks on CommonsHelper

I have tested the CommonsHelper by transfer of File:Luziny sidliste.jpg from cs: wikipedia. I found:

  • In the course of transfer from cs:wikipedia, there occurs a message: <!-- Templates "Template:Přesunout na Commons" were used in the original description page as well , but do not appear to exist on commons. --> The template is the Czech version of the template Copy to Wikimedia Commons. Those templates are to be ignored without any message.
    • Done.
  • When the template NowCommons is beeing included into the original file, the templates or Copy to Wikimedia Commons should by removed at once, if they exist here.
    • The NowCommons button only appends text, it doeesn't alter the existing text. Shouldn't cause too much confusion as images with NowCommons should be nuked quickly on the source wiki anyway.
  • To full support of multilingual outputs, the date should be formated like 2006, not like 2006-07-10.
    • Done.
  • The date of taking a photo (creating a image) should be stated in the first place, the date of a first upload in the second place as an additional statement.
    • Done.
  • In the field "author" should by inserted a dot (.) or <br/> in between the original statement about author and statement about the original uploader.
    • Done.
  • an empty template Ambox is left over
    • Should be fixed (didn't test).
  • the GNU-Layout template doesn't work and is displayed as source code only.
    • Should be fixed (didn't test).

I thank You for the CommonsHelper and for next improvement on the basis of those comments. --ŠJů (talk) 22:40, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Should be fixed now.

There occured some problems with encoding of Czech letters through transfer of File:Vítkův Kámen (Vítkův Hrádek).jpg.

File_Upload_Bot_(Magnus_Manske) - Is it posible to disallow importing some kinds of licence from other wikis depending licence check?

Hello, Someone used your bot to import File:ViaducdeMillau.jpg from the fr wiki.
The licence on the fr wiki asks to not import it to commons.
There is a template apposed to the fr description explaining it, named.
If there is a way to check for such template or plan the creation of a notallowedoncommons category.
Thanks in advance.

It's some sort of fair use at frwp so the at that page is incorrect. Multichill (talk) 15:37, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
I've blocked images with that template from upload through the bot. --Magnus Manske (talk) 19:22, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

--Magnus Manske (talk) 07:53, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Hot-cat-like ist in Arbeit. --Magnus Manske (talk) 11:53, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Ja, so hatte ich mir das vorgestellt. Danke schonmal.--Kolossos (talk) 14:35, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Bug in CommonsHelper

I tried to submit this bug using JIRA, but I can't figure out how to add a new bug notice there. I'm not familiar with JIRA, and I don't want to sign up at yet another service just to tell you about a problem.

I use CommonsHelper, but when I try to upload some files, e.g. w:File:F104G.jpg, I get a problem. It says it transferred correctlty, and says "Everything seems to be OK.", but there is no file at File:F104G.jpg, and the log for the bot doesn't show it being transfered. I also get this problem with w:File:F-111 KC-135.jpg and w:File:F 1013098m 9d085e0.jpg, but not most images. All the best, Quadell (talk) 15:17, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Brackets etc.

CommonsHelper makes double brackets in the field "Date", for example (2007 (original upload date)). It would by better to format it like (Original upload date: 2007).

For reason of aesthetical and logical unification with other fields, information about original uploader should be inserted into brackets and indented to the next row. I. e. it should by formated like

<br />(Original uploader: Name at cs.wikipedia)
instead of Original uploader was Name at cs.wikipedia

--Slomox (talk) 12:36, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

problem with GeoHack in Spanish

Hi!. I have problems with GeoHack in Spanish language. I do not know the reason, but the page doesn't work properly (tested on Firefox, IE6 and Chrome, Spanish translated versions). It only shows a large list of incongruent signs like Nj+Ϊͷvmj9mmM֭Ri6RW[,:nOu', but in other languages in works in the correct way. GeoHack use to work fine in Spanish for a long time on my computer, I dont know if there is some bug in my pc or in GeoHack, but please check it. Compare this vs. this. Thanks! felipealvarez-jaer (talk) 21:36, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

SOLVED. It was a redirection problem at Spanish Wikipedia. Thanks!. felipealvarez-jaer (talk) 22:05, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Lupo 07:47, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
Lupo 07:49, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

TUSC verification

I have just opened a new TUSC account, though when I am trying upload a flickr picture, it is showing TUSC verification failed.. Though when try to create another login, it says you are already verified! Any help would be appreciated. Thankx! --Ekabhishek (talk) 13:48, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Aah, you have signed on with your en user account! I've nuked that entry. You can now sign on with your Commons account, and verify on Commons. --Magnus Manske (talk) 17:49, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
OK Got it! Though it gave an option, en or commons, anyways Thanks! Upon uploading the Description:... remains blank, can't the file name come in there automatically? Because just a while ago I was busy filling that up for so many bot uploaded files, now I know why! Any solution? or at least a suggestion/reminder to uploaders to fill in the description, just as category reminder is there, and works well. Best to you! --Ekabhishek (talk) 19:57, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

geograph_org2commons categories

Hi Magnus, geograph_org2commons is a great tool, but it looks like it doesn't assign categories at the moment. Could you please add to new uploads? Next step would of course be to assign categories right away. Not sure how to do that though, maybe based on the location? Multichill (talk) 15:37, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

is in now. --Magnus Manske (talk) 17:28, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Koordinaten

Modifying flickr2commons for Wikipedia Loves Art

Hello Magnus, I have been tasked by the Wikipedia Loves Art project with figuring out how to automatically upload the 6000 or so Wikipedia Loves Art images from Flickr (where they currently reside) to Wikimedia Commons. A lot of customization will be necessary in order to properly pull the tags and captions into Commons correctly. I have experience with PHP and bot writing, but I have no knowledge of the toolserver whatsoever. If there is any chance that you could help me get my bearings, it would be greatly appreciated. Specifically, how does one get scripts hosted on the toolserver? Would it be easier for me just to run a modified version of the scripts on my machine locally? Is that possible (for file uploading)? Please reply on my commons talk page if you have the time. Thanks! Kaldari (talk) 21:34, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

User:Multichill has just started creating a bot for grabbing batch images off of flickr. You can help or check its status on User:Multichill/Flickr_ripper. A flickr batch uploader has been needed for a long time and anyone's help would be appreciated. Maybe Magnus could also have his input there too. --Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 09:08, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Commons sum-it-up toolbox integration.

First of all thank you for this great tool. It would be however nice if there was a toolbox integration of the tool that can be turned on through the Gadgets interface. It would do the same as "add information" or send one to the toolserver with the page name already added. Hope u consider.--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 09:17, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Commons sum-it-up bug with references

Currently "Commons sum-it-up" also copies the references tags. For example if u search for "New York City Hall" on Commons sum-it-up it returns for the English description some references. Could the tool skip that?--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 09:24, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Commons sum-it-up bug with brackets

Commons sum-it-up removes text that is between brackets. Example is Category:Gatersleben. You can see in the English description it displays "()" while it should display (Template:IPA-de) or just remove the brackets too.--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 11:49, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

One big answer:

  • SumItUp now removes references
  • SumItUp now removes empty () - no need to keep potentially non-working templates IMHO
  • You can now get SuItUp in your toolbox by adding the following to your monobook.js page:
importScript('User:Magnus Manske/sumitup.js');

Feel free to push it through for listing on the gadgets page :-) --Magnus Manske (talk) 14:25, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

I'd be happy to do so, however some problems occur with the tool. I used the tool on Category:Nova Scotia Power. The English description that is added skips everything between the two (Template:Tsx) and (Template:Tsx) templates : "(Template:Tsx) is a power generating and delivery company in Nova Scotia. It is privately owned by Emera (Template:Tsx)" I don't know why it does so, but I wanted to report it.--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 11:51, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for applying the suggestion, Could the line (This summary was created using Commons SumItUp) not be added each time sum it up is used?--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 14:52, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Done. --Magnus Manske (talk) 19:33, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Tolerating capital and non-capital letters

HotCat is a great tool that should actually be embedded in our wikis and shouldn't need the user to activate it. This however is another issue. Currently when typing a category name like "Bar Harbor, Maine" hotcat finds it. However if one types "Bar h" hotcat doesn't display results. Could the suggestion box tolerate case sensitivity? --Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 08:58, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

File Upload Bot, foreign characters and ISO date

Hei! Would be nice if your File Upload Bot tolerated foreign characters (üöäõ) in file names. For instance choosing letter "ü" in file name makes it appear as "ü" after upload. Also the bot could fill Flickrreview date parameter using standard 2009-07-08 not July 8, 2009 so that the date wouldn't appear in English in localized version of template. Thanks! 195.50.204.207 15:16, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Sum-it-up using Wiki cats to add cats

One feature that would help a lot is automatically adding categories from Wikipedia that are already created on commons. For example Category:Busways Travel Services has an article on en:Busways Travel Services containing categories like Category:Stagecoach Group or Category:Transport in Tyne and Wear. These also exist on Commons. Could the tool automatically check this and add the cats? I've been using Sumitup quite a lot lately, with the new features and everything. Thanks for everything, --Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 11:35, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Upload bot - rename templates

Hi, as you can see in Category:Media renaming requests needing target, your file upload bot frequently uploads files with a Rename template, often without parameter. Could your bot remove those templates ? (and equally all variants of the merge templates). Thank you. --Foroa (talk) 14:40, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

My bot doesn't add the rename template. I suspect it is the MediaWiki upload tagging "simple" names automatically. --Magnus Manske (talk) 16:16, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
No. If an image at the source wiki (for example enwp) is tagged with Rename media. The file at Commons will also contain that template. Take for example en:File:20922926a8272914641l.jpg. Multichill (talk) 19:38, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Help

I saw you are familiar with the cat-a-lot function. Can you please read this and this and try to help? Thanks-a-lot :) --Sailko (talk) 08:11, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Well, I wrote cat-a-lot :-) However, it seems the MediaWiki API was broken, on purpose. See here. Not much I can do about it. To get it fixed, complain on wikitech-l and/or #MediaWiki ... --Magnus Manske (talk) 11:45, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

CatScan 2

Hi. I started using it the other day and it works well. The new features are great. For Commons, "Last change" is a somewhat useless as the license migration bots touched many pages. Upload date could be a useful criterion though. To do things like this, the output of the subcategories that included a specific page/file was helpful, but, in most cases, it isn't needed. -- User:Docu at 10:54, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

The exif dated used by the tool might not be ideal. For this, it used "File change date and time" which is later than "Date and time of digitizing" or "Date and time of data generation". -- User:Docu at 10:54, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

This might be a better sample.
BTW the tool strips the notes from the new image annotation texts. -- User:Docu at 11:33, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi Magnus - can you put plant photo uploads in their species category, please, not just the family! And also add at least the species name in the Description entry e.g. like this - Thanks! MPF (talk) 09:16, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi. Commons Helper again doesn't recognize templates Јв-ја and ГЛСД-ја, and template GFDL-self is converting to USERNAME, instead to sr Can You do something about it? --BokicaK (talk) 15:46, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Magnus, did You notice this? Also should be converted to GFDL-no-disclaimers --BokicaK (talk) 02:20, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

CommonsHelper2 own work improvements

Hi Magnus, nice you created the CommonsHelper2 project. I used CommonsHelper a lot and I would like to suggest some improvements for the transfer of self made files. Some of the work has to be done manually now and could probably be automated.

Detect own work

First CH2 should detect if it's own work. Own work is either Self without an author parameter or GFDL-self, PD-self or similar templates (should probably tracked at Meta:CommonsHelper2).

Source has information template

Almost the same as current CH.

  • description - Text of the source page with language (same as now)
  • date - original upload date (same as now)
  • source - from some wikipedia (same as now)
  • author - user from some wikipedia (so not the original uploader was.... we know the original uploader is the author)
  • permission - empty

Source contains information template

  • description - Description in information at the source page with language (same as now?)
  • date - If set at source, just copy it. If not set original upload date... (so no combining)
  • author - Author in information at the source page and name of the uploader at some wikipedia. Some logic should be added to combine these two components when possible. For example if the original field is author=theuploader you could just change this to theuploader at some wikipedia. Slightly more complicated case is author=the uploaders real name. This should be changed to the uploaders real name at some wikipedia.
  • permission - empty

Information or no information at the source. The tool should add Self with author field filled like CH currently does. If the author logic works good this should be used for the self template too.

I hope either you or Jan could take a look at these suggestions. We plan on transfering a lot of images from enwp and this would lower the time per image a lot. Multichill (talk) 17:30, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Request

Hoi Magnus Manske, from the Dutch Wikipedia you recently copied two files (nl:File:Wikireclame.png and nl:File:User-Matthias92 Uzi-1- met snor.JPG) which have been marked with the 'Nietverplaatsen'-template (nl:template:Nietverplaatsen). The meaning of the template is "please don't move this to Commons". Maybe your Dutch language skills are not so good, or you missed the template. Anyway, for the time being it would be better to stop copying that kind of files. The number of local files on the nl-wiki has been dropping for the last few years (several years ago it was about 40,000 now it is around 2,500) so in the long run on the nl-wiki we have to make a decision about what to do with these files. Anyway, most of your actions to 'move' files from the nl-wiki to Commons are very much appreciated, just these two ... - Robotje (talk) 15:20, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi Robotje, since you didn't give a link to the images on Commons, I can't check, but please verify if I uploaded the images, or someone else using my bot, as described in the red-bordered box at the top of this page. The information about who transfered it will be in the generated Information template. --Magnus Manske (talk) 15:27, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
Both have the samwe name on Commons so File:Wikireclame.png and File:User-Matthias92 Uzi-1- met snor.JPG I guess contacting user Koektrommel is the next step for me. Thanks. - Robotje (talk) 16:40, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Rights Qustion

Hi Magnus,

I'd like to use the photo http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Photodynamic_therapy.jpg for online training. However, there is a note on the picture that says the information with it isn't accurate and not to use it until it has been reviewed. Do you have any idea when that might happen? Many thanks for your time.

Jayney

Hi Jayney. First, I have nothing to do with that image, it was just transfered here from English wikipedia using my tool/bot. That said, I 've fixed the description, which seems to have been hidden due to some bug. It appears clear that the image was released into the public domain by the US government, and you are free to use it in any way you like (though a backlink to Commons would be nice :-) If you are still in doubt, try the original uploader on en.wikipedia. Cheers, Magnus Manske (talk) 21:07, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks Magnus,

I appreciate your help.

Mendelian inheritance vs. Inheritance
