Thanks for uploading File:George Nepia passport photo 1924.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. @Magog the Ogre: The George Nepia image is CC2.0 as published online by Archives New Zealand https://www.archives.govt.nz/copyright In cases where we have already published archival material on the archives.govt.nz website or have made it digitally available on Archway, it is covered by a Creative Commons BY 2.0 license, unless otherwise stated. You are then welcome to use it without seeking permission.

I am a basic source editor so not sure how i can make it clearer. (Have since figured out how so should be ok from here) The licensing section does refer to CC2.0 as noted on the Archives NZ website. The way i uploaded was based on advice given at the Archives NZ edit-a-thon in July 2019. CC2.0 isn't an option when uploading - unless the item is on Flickr first. So i added a link to the copyright page on the Archives New Zealand website. MagicPie97 (talk) 23:17, 30 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

NZ archive renames[edit]

Hi. If you build a list of renames with file_name and target_name, then that can be undertaken. Happy for you to {{Ping}} me to do. No requirement to tag them all to be moved, or you can do that, either is acceptable.

Name changes[edit]

Thanks for helping me with this

<kill list of red links>

There will be a few more but i'll send them through tomorrow when i get time Cheers MagicPie97 (talk) 03:10, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@MagicPie97: wikifying that, and with some amendment then we have the above list. If the first rename that we did is not ideal, then please add it as a new line with the desired name, and I will replicate that to the others. Note that we cannot have colons in filenames, they are a reserved character in filenames.  — billinghurst sDrewth 03:20, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The first change looks good - that works well. MagicPie97 (talk) 19:00, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I should add that overnight i was granted Move rights so i should be able to fix future errors myself - i'll model what you've done with the first one. I'll start with other files i've not listed here. If you don't have time to fix them i can have a go. Thanks for your help MagicPie97 (talk) 19:44, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Giving them back. Happy for you to own the solution. Hope that you are getting through your lockdown.  — billinghurst sDrewth 21:19, 1 April 2020 (UTC) (wave from across the ditch)[reply]

@Billinghurst: Haha thanks! - Wiki work is all i can do really from home - locked out of building for at least 4 weeks. Its pretty hard work. Think Aussies will be heading the same way soon. Weird times MagicPie97 (talk) 21:46, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I am in a protected industry, so I am needing to go in on occasions, though have set up the systems so I can minimise those occurrences, until we have someone sick and then I need to fill gaps. Think NSW may get there first, though as Victoria is being more proactive, so will most likely match it.
Now more importantly, I hope that if you were planning to transcribe these documents that you were going to do this over at Wikisource. As that is my favoured haunt we are happy to work with you to look how to best set these up. Category:Archives New Zealand buildings, Wellington[edit]

Hi MagicPie97, just wanted to check in about Category:Archives New Zealand buildings, Wellington. I was intending for this to be a category literally containing photos of the buildings, but I see you've removed the Category Category:Archives New Zealand and there are now photos of objects from inside the buildings in there? Interested in what you were thinking. Cheers Ballofstring (talk) 03:14, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Ballofstring: Hi. I was planning to remove the non-building images. They were added by colleagues by mistake. Just havent finished removing them as there were at least 30. My aim is to have the umbrella of sub-categories under Images From Archives. But then I guess some may not have been taken by Archives. Will have a closer look tomorrow. Plan to create similar categories for Chch, Dunedin and Auckland too MagicPie97 (talk) 04:59, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

John Pascoe[edit]

I see you moved the category for the mountaineer. That doesn't look right; what's your intention? Schwede66 22:22, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Schwede66: Hi - as it was an image from Archives of a former Chief Archivist i thought it made sense to add it under the Images from Archives as a sub-category - i'm trying to have the sub-categories have a similar style of "XYZ at Archives New Zealand" MagicPie97 (talk) 22:27, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Schwede66: - what i should have done is create a new category instead of replacing the old one, as the John Pascoe category should still exist for other non-archives material. How can i fix it? Do i recreate the John Pascoe (mountaineer) category? MagicPie97 (talk) 22:31, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, you moved the category for the person. I've reverted it as it was a mistake. What you want to do is create a new category for chief archivists and then add that category to this subject. Do you know what to do, or shall I do this for you? Schwede66 22:44, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Schwede66: - i should be ok as i had a go at creating some other sub-categories this morning - what i may do is remove the Archives NZ category from the John Pascoe one - i'll have a think to see how it should work. Thanks for your help and sorry for causing you extra work to do! MagicPie97 (talk) 23:42, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No trouble. You may have seen that I've fixed that up, too. The role belongs to the category and not the photo. Also important to get capitalisation correct. Schwede66 00:49, 3 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

101 of categorisation[edit]

Can I encourage you to have a read of Commons:Categories? At least the top half of the page, I suggest. Schwede66 04:43, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Schwede66: - I did have a read and can see i'm going to detailed with the categories - i was aiming to replicate this https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Images_from_Auckland_Museum but i see their categories are much broader. I'l aim for this approach from now on to reduce the double ups. MagicPie97 (talk) 19:29, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File:New Zealand stamp 1983 - Tabby cat.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
