Hi, I just declined your train -- I put most of the reasons in the area that the gallery gives it. Thank you for making the description more 'descriptive' I didn't check to see if it is used in any of the encyclopedia articles, but knowing the scale will allow it to be used there and other places more easily by other people. That G scale was one I read about that was supposed to be a set for driving through a garden layout (and outside); I really was curious about that. I think that that was the last copy of model railroader that I bought.... If you look at the photograph at full resolution, and look at the stuff along the center of the engine, the front of it is really sharp but the smoke stack gets kind of soft on the edges.

I am not fond of declining images; I don't want to discourage you either. -- carol (talk) 11:11, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

No problem. And thanks for your annotation on my image. --Wuzur (talk) 11:27, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi. As a result of your request at Commons talk:Flickr images/reviewers, I have added you to the reviewers list. Please see the instructions at Commons:Flickr images/reviewers and add User trusted to your userpage. You can ask me if you need any help. Cheers, Rocket000 (talk) 20:19, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

What's the problem with the image? I've explained the situation at the deletion page, would be nice if you could respond ASAP. Thanks! —Nightstallion (?) 18:22, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Please rename this image

Dear 'trusted user'

 • Can you please rename or follow up on my failed nomination to rename this tomb: Image:Ramesses III KV11a.jpg (I was the uploader) The flickr source gave the wrong indentification for it until a reliable contact on Commons told me it was actually that of pharaoh Setnakht, Ramesses III's father. I also gave another image for my reasons here. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:06, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Done. The next time the bot is running the image will be renamed. --~/w /Talk - Usefull stuff 08:16, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
 • Thank You. One comment: Does this exercise here mean that only trusted users are allowed to make rename proposals? I thought this wouldn't be a problem here....since I was the original uploader, not a third party. Perhaps my impression is wrong. --Leoboudv (talk) 08:20, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
To avoid vandalism only users that have been trusted on Commons:MediaMoveBot/CheckPage. Maybe it would be possible that original uploaders can rename their images, ask on the project talkpage. In a short time images can be renamed as pages currently can --~/w /Talk - Usefull stuff 08:24, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Rename image request

Dear Trusted user Wuzur, Can you please place a name change for this image of Ramesses II's son here: Image:Khasekhemwy.jpg from Khasekhemwy.jpg (who was a pharaoh in his own right in the 2nd dynasty of Egypt 1,500+ years before Ramesses II/the Great) to Image:Khaemwaset.jpg Even the original image uploader notes that it is an image of Khaemwaset/Khaemweset in the image description....who did not become a king of Egypt although he was crown prince for a time. I believe the uploader made a simple error in the title. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 05:18, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi,

Sorry, if my question is stupid, but what is the difference between Category:OTRS pending and Category:Items pending OTRS confirmation of permission ?

Thanks.--Bapti 07:39, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, the only difference is that my Category just contains images. It was late and I just did't saw this category. Sorry for editing this, next time I'll look better inside the template text. --~/w /Talk 16:59, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
So, can I remove Category:OTRS pending ? :p --Bapti 19:40, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
Do. Thanks and sorry again. --~/w /Talk 11:15, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Rename another image

Dear Wuzur, I, the uploader of this image here: Image:Triad of Ramesses II with Amun and Hathor.jpg formally request that you please rename it as Image:Triad of Ramesses II with Amun and Mut.jpg instead. An Egyptologist told me the hieroglyphs over the female goddess reads as 'Mut the great mistress of Isheru, mistress of the sky and the two land.' Unfortunately, in Egyptian theology, Hathor and Mut were closely interrelated with one another.

 • Secondly, when does the bot which renames images run--the first request I placed on September 13 has still not been implemented. Does it run once a month? I'm sorry but I am not fully knowledgeable of Commons procedures. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 04:44, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
✓ Done If you plan to make more of this requests it is easier if you ask unburocratic here but there is no problem if you make requests here.
The Bot runs whenever User:Betacommand thinks it is the right time to do, just ask on his talkpage to remember him. --~/w /Talk 13:32, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Delete image

Dear Wuzur, Now that the rename bot has succesfully renamed this image as Khaemwaset, (Ramesses II's son), can you delete the incorrect image here: Image:Khasekhemwy.jpg It would minimise any confusion...I have gone through the foreign wikis and replaced them with the correct image--Khasemwaset.jpg. So, it shouldn't be in use any more. Thank You. --Leoboudv (talk) 04:39, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

The image will be deleted in the next time. I do not have the right to do this, but the people for that are informed. --~/w /Talk 13:16, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Notice of namespace-rename "Image" -> "File"

Dear user, the MediaWiki developers recently announced that the "Image:" namespace is going to be renamed to "File:". "Image:" will remain an alias. The canonical namespace name wgCanonicalNamespace will change from "Image" to "File".

I noticed that you use wgCanonicalNamespace in either your monobook.js page or a JavaScript file in your userspace (check this list).

Please check and replace all occurrences of

wgCanonicalNamespace == "Image"

with

wgNamespaceNumber == 6

to ensure that your scripts keep working. Thanks! --Dschwen (talk) 18:41, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Help rename this image

Dear Wuzur, Help! Can you please kindly place a rename request on this image: Image:Diadem of one of Thutmose III's three foreign wives by John Campana.jpg I gave it the wrong title. I wish to rename it Image:18th dynasty crown of an Egyptian queen/princess by John Campana.jpg In the corrected description, I noted that the owner is unknown. Possible rename

I did not create this image file here: Image:JewelsAndWeaponsOfQueenAhomseNefertari.png. But if you inspect the second edit by its creator in the image history, the uploader (Captmondo) notes the object belongs to Queen Ahhotep, not Ahmose Nefertari. I suggest that this image be renamed Image:Jewels and Weapons of Queen Ahhotep.png to clear up any confusion.

However, will a rename be a problem given that the wrongly titled image is used in a few articles like this one: [3]? What is your honest opinion, Wuzur? If not, please rename the image. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 05:38, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
✓ Done. I uploaded the image manually, placed a requested on User:CommonsDelinker/commands. After it was fulfilled I deleted the old image rightaway. --~/w /Talk 17:26, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
 • Thanks Wuzur. You handled the situation perfectly! The thing was the current title is very confusing but since it was used in an article[s], I didn't know what to do. --Leoboudv (talk) 17:38, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

I do not blame you having deleting the page. You were right, there was not any file, because you have deleted them. However, can you undelete it please, I have many files to add (for example those). In addition, why did you delete the file discussed here Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Astérix & Obélix Bruxelles rue de la Buanderie.jpg. The discussion was not closed, I had sent a lot of mails to organizations, and I wanted to ask for the permission to relaease the works under a free license. I do not understand why you deleted the file before I can find a solution.

And of course, do not delete the categories Category:Wall paintings in Brussels and Category:Sculptures in Brussels, because I there is no question of FOP for these images. These monuments belong to the city of Brussels, not the authors. I am searching for a proof of that, so do not delete the files please, until I obtain a clear reply from the city of Brussels (for I have sent mails).

In addition, the mass deletion of the murals you have done yesterday are unjustified. There were some cases in which the de minimis arument was valid. It is also the case for Category:Wall paintings in Brussels and Category:Sculptures in Brussels, so you cannot delete them without opening a discussion. And I repeat that the monuments photographed belong to the city of Brussels, and thus are released into the public domain. There is no question of FOP here.

This why I demand:
1. the undeletion of the images of Parcours BD de Bruxelles, plus the corrresponding category,
2. the reopening of the discussion Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Astérix & Obélix Bruxelles rue de la Buanderie.jpg, which was not finished,
3. the interdiction to proceed to the mass deletion of Category:Wall paintings in Brussels and Category:Sculptures in Brussels, until I receive a mail from the city of Brussels confirming that the images are free, and otherwise granting the permission or not to release them under a free license. --Pah777 (talk) 11:04, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

You still don't understand: The city of Brussels cannot authorize anyone to take pictures of works that it has not created itsself. The copyright of these works are owned by the creator, no matter if the work is owned by the city of Brussels or not. No matter what they say, we need permission from the copyright holder, not from the city. -- ChrisiPK (Talk|Contribs) 11:58, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
The city of Brussels may have bought the rights to the author (you have admitted it yourself). However, I have received a mail from http://www.bruxellesbd.be and http://www.brusselstrip.be explaining that the rights are owned by the city, the author and the publisher. It may be necessary to ask the permission to the three. I won'y do it, but I still claim that the de minimis argument can be used for some images, for example this one Image:Parcours BD 01.JPG. Mass deletion is impossible ! --Pah777 (talk) 13:20, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

The images are definitly copyvios as there are now. We have waited long enough. If you revive a permission for the images I can restore them. (If you need the images to show them the right holder, I can post the Flickr-links) --~/w /Talk 15:35, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Yes I would like the Flickr links please, and above all the names of the uploaders of the images if possible. Or better, is it possible you undelete the files for a while, so that I can upload them with a fur in the english encyclopedia (until I am granted a permission). Many thanks, if you can do it. I remind you it is the Category:Murals of Brussels--Pah777 (talk) 16:12, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
Voilà. Just make a list of images you need and i'll find the best way to upload the images to the English Wikipedia. --~/w /Talk 17:43, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Parfait, merci. Here are the most important:

Would it be possible to give a list of articles in which the images were used? (If not it not the problem, but better to restore them on en) --~/w /Talk 17:11, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
Done. If you have any problem with the image and articles, ask to en:user:Fram or myself. Generally, it would be preferable to put the images at the end of the articles, if possible in the section "In popular culture" or "Memorabilia" when it exists. Thanks, and do not hesitate to enjoy the articles about comics and bring your contribution ! --Pah777 (talk) 22:28, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
I uploaded every image marked with an OK. Due some problems now I'll upload the last two later. Please put the images into the articles, I don't know much about comics, it was just to prove the proper fair-use on en. --~/w /Talk 17:03, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

Alles klar, vielen Dank.

Gruß, --T.M.L.-KuTV (talk) 18:49, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi there, I'd like to ask you a question about this deletion request. I'm currently requesting adminship and I'd like to fully understand other admins actions. Why not speedy-delete in such a case? Sorry

Hello. Sorry for the inconvenience. I should have been more careful in these things because, even though the license is right and compatible, the image that appears on it does not specify if it is copyrighted or not. That happened to me twice. If you look at the rest of the files I have uploaded, I did not have any problem, excepting the first ones, mainly as the result of my ignorance on this field. I currently work as a sysop and bureaucrat on eswiki and I always pay attention to these things, but this time I lost it. Therefore, if you deem necessary to delete the image, I agree with you and offer my apologies for such an embarrassing fact. Kind regards from Spain, --Gustavo86 (talk) 18:24, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

I opened a deletion request. This does not neccesarily mean that the file will be deleted. I don't know (and I think no one does) any exception in international law. There is no problem with that. Someone uploads a file and the next one delets it. You aren't get blocked for that and certainly not if you upload many good images. You don't need to say sorry for that. --~/w /Talk 19:28, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Thank you. By the way, there is a user who is uploading images without mentioning the sources. I've been following him on eswiki and I certainly think some of the images or all of them may have a copyright. Check them out if you have time. Regards, --Gustavo86 (talk) 23:48, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

2 deletions questioned

Why did you delete File:Ft Worth Modern 15.jpg and File:Ft Worth Modern 16.jpg? Both User:Jarekt and I argued at Commons:Deletion requests/Tadao Ando artwork that there was absolutely no problem with these images under U.S. law (Cecil's argument, if accepted, amounts to it being illegal to publish photographs of public interior spaces, clearly not the case in the U.S.) and neither he nor anyone else responded with any coherent explanation of why this would be an issue. The buildings are in the U.S., so any issue under Japanese law would not apply: the nationality of the architect is clearly irrelevant. - Jmabel ! talk 20:01, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

It's not illegal to publish such photos, but the interior is simply copyrighted. There is no exception for putting this under a free license in the US law unless the architect decides so. --~/w /Talk 10:05, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
So are you saying that all photos in the interiors of (recent) buildings have copyright problems, since they inevitably incorporate elements of the buildings? That seems bizarre. Surely the claim must be something weaker than that. - Jmabel ! talk 19:49, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Unless they don't meet PD-ineligible and are in a country which has a law which says that - yes. --~/w /Talk 19:58, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
I still don't get this. The building is in the United States. The picture was taken from a public space (the lobby). Freedom of panorama#United States says that there is freedom of panorama for buildings in the United States and that in the U.S. "Anyone may take photographs of buildings from public places. The photographer holds the exclusive copyright to such an image (the architect or owner of the building has no say whatsoever), and may publish the image in any way." So what exactly is the problem? - Jmabel ! talk 04:50, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
Please note that not every lobby is a public place just because every can go into it. The building should be open 24/7 is just one criterium for a public place. The second thing is that interior is not a building but architectural artwork. The term "building" just describes the fassade, what you can see from outside. --~/w /Talk 11:46, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
Where do you get this 24/7 criterion? It runs counter to what I have always heard was the understanding of "public space" in U.S. copyright law. I understand that is the criterion several places in Europe, and possibly elsewhere, but in this case only U.S. law should be relevant. - Jmabel ! talk 16:02, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
The US law simply says "public place". A place which is open just a half day can't be public. There are different interpretations of any word so you may want to start a undeletion request. I'd be strictly against it, others maybe not. --~/w /Talk 16:39, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
These particular images aren't important to me, but the policy is. We have literally hundreds, maybe thousands, of such images. So COM:UNDEL wouldn't be the place to take it up; I'll try to start a conversation at the Village Pump. - Jmabel ! talk 18:52, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Wuzur, could you please comment at Commons:Village pump#Public space (clarification needed for U.S.) so that your side of the issue is also properly presented? - Jmabel ! talk 21:59, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Dear Wuzur, Thank You for placing a rename request on this image file: File:Tomb TT339 of Pashedu (Kairoinfo4u).jpg

 • One question. Can you make one more edit to the image file here such as placing a second full stop or dot after Seti I. I made an anonymous edit to rename the tomb as TT3, not TT339 as you can see here: [5] So the rename request will fail since an anon IP made the last edit to the picture file unless you make another edit---like placing a second dot/full stop after Seti I. I'm sorry I did not realise this until now. Can you help. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 22:22, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Was genau ist passiert? Thank you Wuzur, and I'm sorry I assumed since it's in public photo album, it is under US Public License. I will go through the links you provided (Commons:Licensing, Commons:Licensing, Commons:Image casebook, Commons:Help desk) and make sure I upload only appropriate files.

Could you also check the image for wikipedia:Fred Cohen, because I obtained the photo the same way: Google-ing.

I deleted the second file, too. Since there is no law (neither in the US, nor in other countries) that on the internet published images are free for others to use we have to stick to the existing rules. Commons only allows free files, which either are put under a free license by the author (the license allows e.g. free commercial use) or have no copyright more on them (this happens e.g. 70 years after the photographer died). The links I gave you are a good starting point. And thanks for the reply :-) Wuzur 12:44, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Request for Permission

Hello Wuzur,

First of all, I apologize for the lengthy message. I have copied and pasted here the email-conversation I had with Gregory Chaitin, asking him for a photograph we could use on wikipedia. Today, I got a promising result, so I am asking for permission to re-upload the specified photo to wikimedia to be used on G. Chaitin's wikipedia article.

Dear Professor,
The point of my letter concerns your Wikipedia article, to which I tried to add a photograph of yours, taken for an IBM article. It :can also be found at http://reallyhardsums.wordpress.com/2007/10/12/godel-intuition-versus-formality/, with Godel above, and Turing :under your photo. Blogs can use it, why not Wikipedia? Because they require explicitly free licensed photos.
If it is possible, could we use one of your photos for your Wikipedia article, because people might want to see who you are when :reading about you there. Imagine Godel's or Kolmogorov's pages without their photos?
Thank you and whatever your decision my be, thank you very much for your time.

Thanks for your interest.
I do not understand these legal matters.
As far as I can see, there is no solution.
I cannot take a photo of myself.
Therefore I do not own the copyright
of any of my photos, that belongs to the photographer.
Therefore I cannot give anyone permission to
use one of my photos, that would have to come
from the photographer.
That black and white photo of me that you want
to use belongs to IBM, I suppose.
As far as I am concerned, you are free to use it,
but for Wikipedia that does not seem to be
sufficient.
Very sorry!

Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hallo Wuzur,

Also muss auf jedenfalls OV ran.

Hallo, you had kept this file in 2008. I would like to dispute the decission and reacitvate the deletion request since:

 • the file from March 2006 is a doublette of the older File:Marx3.jpg from December 2005.
 • the file has obviuosly been made up from File:Marx4.jpg, I guess it is taken from some publication in Eastern Europe during Soviet time, see also my comment on File talk:Marx3.jpg. Actually this picture Marx3/Younger Marx does not belong into encyclopaedic articles.

So while at most one version of YoungerMarx and Marx3 may perhaps be kept for documentary purposes, in order to have some control, the version YoungerMarx should be deleted.

17:25, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
