wikiportrait[edit]

Hi Edo,
if you are an OTRS-volunteer it might help others to tag/categorize your userpage as OTRS member. As you added an OTRS-ticket to File:Robin Leféber.jpg, did you realize that the license tag doesn't work? Some of your uploads, such as File:Piet-jansen-1306219381.jpg are missing EXIF and a date entry, which is rather unfortunate in portrait images. Could you check whether the original material has any information about the date (year) the image had been shot? In image File:Piet-jansen-1306219381.jpg the author entry is identical to the name of the depicted, which is somewhat unlikely to be true in a politician. Could you eventually re-check this information? Thanks. --Túrelio (talk) 13:24, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Turelio, all these pictures come in from the wikiportrait.nl project. Piet Jansen is a local politician, I remember that the picture he sent us is the same one he is using for his twitter profile. A lot of images are missing dates and other information simply because they were not provided. I usually check the incoming images with Google Image search. And on every incoming image we sent a mail back, requesting the sentence "Yes, I am the owner and agree with the GFDL/CCbySA license" to ensure that the uploader is the person behind the given mail address, and they are aware of any license issues. And yes, I am an OTRS member of the Dutch OTRS team. I will check the page of other members to see how I can tag my page as such. Edoderoo (talk) 13:31, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
About the tagging, see User:Odder or User:Pill, for example. --Túrelio (talk) 13:34, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

crossover cable dups[edit]

Hello, it appears to me that File:Crossovercable-1.png is just a screenshot of File:Ethernet MDI crossover.svg with a caption. Could I get your opinion on the language of the caption? It even kept the few English words I had. Is there a reason to keep the copy, since the svg can be scaled and any caption added?

File:Crossovercable-2.png also seems a derrivative work, although the addition of color is a slight improvement. But again an svg could be scaled to any size. There seems no article (yet?) in the NL Wikipedia using them. Thanks. W Nowicki (talk) 16:10, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's getting tricky ;-) I received this as powerpoint on OTRS, from someone that told "I created it". But you are right one picture must be a direct copy of an older picture. The reason that the text (and category) are the same, is because I looked them up over the crosscable-article. I will just take no risk, and delete both pictures (let them delete, i'm no sysop). Edoderoo (talk) 18:13, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, thanks for the quick work. I went ahead and added a touch of color to mine in the meanwhile. W Nowicki (talk) 19:37, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I see red links above, so the pictures seem to be deleted by now. Edoderoo (talk) 19:38, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
File:Loopkoets--alkmaar.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hello, Edoderoo!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hi Edo, I've converted your speedy into a DR to allow for some discussion, as it is not a copyvio and I wonder about external re-users. --Túrelio (talk) 14:49, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This media may be deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Gert-heerkes-1312533671.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

Admin[edit]

I was quite sincere when I suggested you spend some time here making intelligent comments and doing research on DRs and then come back for another try at Admin. Admins delete about 1,000 items a day so that having users making comments, and where necessary doing some research, is very helpful.

It need not take long -- a month or two and a few hundred good additions would be enough to show that you understand enough to go forward as an Admin. We certainly need more good Admins -- while 263 seems like a lot, actually seven of us do more than 50% of the actions and about half of us do 99%, so having more good ones would be a very good thing.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 17:25, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the explanation. I kind of expected this situation, when a relatively new user applies to be admin on the Dutch wiki, there is the same situation. I also know it is nothing personal after all, but it gave me good insight in what is expected. I will show up on IRC more often in the #commons channel, as I learned this is often a good place to learn what is going on in the community, and I will spend sime time too on DRs the coming time. If I will ever delete 1000 items a day, I'm not sure. It sounds like 10 hours of hard work every day ;-) But it sure looks like you can have some helping hand in some way. Edoderoo (talk) 17:49, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I wasn't clear -- all Admins together delete about 1,000 items a day -- Turelio does about 110, and has done so for more than a year. Denniss, a new Admin, does about 100. It tails off from there.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 22:30, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds more reasonable ;-) But still like 1-2hrs a day of work. I know the situation. But you guys are right, you need good new admins, $h7d-admins will only cause more time lost then won. So I fully understand that people first want to see some good work before users will get the tools. Edoderoo (talk) 07:32, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

AWB[edit]

Hi, I've granted your AWB access request for Edoderoobot. I'm sure you'll use the immense power of AWB wisely! Rd232 (talk) 21:41, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, it would be good, for transparency, to link your bot account from your user page, using User bot master. You can also use Bot on the bot account page. Rd232 (talk) 21:46, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks ! I use AWB since september 2008, especially when I was a sysop at the Dutch wiki it was very helpful to clean up/rename categories and fix double redirects, etc. I will for sure use it the way it is meant to be. I have added the templates to my user-pages, thanks for the tip. Edoderoo (talk) 22:10, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Good. I added some documentation to User bot master by the way - there is a Type parameter you can add if you like. Rd232 (talk) 22:26, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
