How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. Category:FAMAS as topic

This is a bit of an oddball, is there a reason why Category:FAMAS in art cannot just be under Category:FAMAS as with other 'in art' categories, and why it needs this category instead to hold it. I cannot find other examples of categorizing things this way. Thanks! Josh (talk) 21:25, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

Because not all FAMAS in art are firearms. It needs to be constintet with the supirior categories. Deletion requests for Austrian stamps

I'm not sure I agree with you closing those deletion requests as keep. Anyone can write whatever on a random Wikipedia page, it's not a legally binding document though. In the meantime the person who wrote the article even says that there should be an opinion from the Post on it. I don't see any place where that happened or where they gave explicit permission for the images of their stamps to be on commons. And? I assume images of the stamps are an original work that we would still need permission to host. Just because they are a derivative of files hosted on commons doesn't automatically make them PD or OK to host. Anymore then it would be OK to host a PDF of a book just because there's an image from Commons in it on page 59 or whatever. Because the stamps aren't an exact reproduction of the images. They have their own elements that visually distinguish them from the images you liked to. Sure, but File:Sujet Bregenzerwald Briefmarkenserie.jpg isn't just an edited version of the original file. It's a completely new work. One that the uploader is claiming is there's and that they have the right to license when it isn't and they don't. Like I said before if I create a book with a CC-BY-SA image in it that doesn't make the whole book CC-BY-SA and it doesn't mean the person who took the image can claim they wrote the book or upload it wherever they want. Copyright stamps of Austria clearly says "the respective postage stamp designer needs to be contacted. For each stamp a release must be obtained individually." There's zero evidence böhringer friedrich was the stamp engraver/designer. There isn't even a license on file that has been reviewed. Anyone can slap a CC-BY-SA license on it in the meantime. If you want to argue stamps aren't original works, cool. You should have done that in the deletion discussions instead of just unilaterally closing them based on a personal opinion that's clearly nonsense though. --Adamant1 (talk) 23:18, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

Not that the "file" has a yellow frame around it in the first place, but the yellow frames inside the image is one element of multiple elements for why I think File:Sujet Bregenzerwald Briefmarkenserie.jpg is an original work. It's not the only element though. If it was just an exact duplicate File:Sujet Bregenzerwald Briefmarkenserie.jpg, but with a yellow frame it obviously wouldn't be a stamp. Let a alone montage of multiple stamps, which is what it is. Treating the image as a simple reproduction of a single image, but with a yellow frame around it, is insincere at best. The "file" doesn't even have a yellow frame it around. Let me ask you this, if this was so cut and dry why did the person who wrote the Wikipedia article say that it would be good to have an opinion it from the post before hosting the files? I am messaging you because a contest for a sound logo for Wikimedia is being developed and your opinion as a Wikimedia Commons admin is appreciated. My team would like to know if it is possible for the top finalist sound logos in the contest to have attribution temporarily hidden from public view until all the votes are final? Danke dir, verschieben klappt bei mir merkwürdiger Weise nur bei Kategorien.

Während der Ausführung einer Aufgabe trat ein Fehler auf.

Hiho Sanandros

Moin Sanandros wie läufts bei dir? Alles frisch? Du sag mal kürzlich hat mir Matthiasb geraten auf Commons die Rechte als "Dateimover" (noch nie was von gehört) zu beantragen. Fand ich erst nicht so wichtig. Nun hab ich aber eine Baustelle im Bereich Category:Württembergische Flurkarte 1:2.500 da müssten tatsächlich die Dateien von Grund auf neu organisiert werden ... und zwar nach den Seitentiteln/Signaturen nach denen die Karten ursprünglich angelegt wurden. In der Unterkategorie mit den Kartenausschnitten stehen die jeweiligen Orts/Objektnamen im Vordergrund.

Ich denke, daß ich zuwenig aktiv bin, um erfolgreich zum Admin auf Commons zu kandidieren? Das war früher mehr, als ich noch regelmäßig Bilder von WP-Sprachversionen, meist aus der englischen, nach Commons übertragen habe. Das ist mir aber inzwischen zu heikel geworden, weil die damaligen Bild-Uploads oft unsauber bequellt/lizenziert waren; außerdem sind die meisten Bilder inzwischen sowieso auf Commons, meist sogar in besseren Versionen.
