File:Son Servera 03 ies.jpg

Hello, you wrote [1] that you kept one image. But you deleted the image for which I wrote that it falls under FoP-Spain. As I remember the deleted File:Son Servera 03 ies.jpg only shows a part of File:Son Servera 01 ies.jpg (which was not nominated for deletion by nobody, but you added "kept" [2]). I think this is confusing a bit. Can you look again and restore perhaps? Holger1959 (talk) 19:41, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

Ah ok. Effectively, I was confused. Restored. Yann (talk) 19:49, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
thank you! Holger1959 (talk) 03:25, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Vanoot59

Thanks. I reached the same conclusion you did in your comment -- that the DR was a mess and I was slowly working though them.

When we get DRs like this one, I'd like to do a speedy keep and tell the nom to bring it back in pieces with a little more research. Trouble with that, though, is that the nom may not bother to bring it back, in which case the problems that are in the DR will remain on Commons. .     Jim . . . . Images de Temoudje sans licence

Bonjour,

--EdouardHue (talk) 18:24, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

@EdouardHue: Oui. cf. Category:Media without a license: needs history check.

Temoudje [Oook ?] 10:54, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

Biografía.pdf

Concerning this — it was a misworded closing remark: This file should be deleted because it is a PDF, outside the narrow scope of acceptable PDF files. It is not out of scope (subject is a documentary film director mentioned in several articles of w:es), and its contents would have been accepted as in scope should they had been presented as separate images files and text in w:es. -- Tuválkin 19:40, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Suppressions

@Jameslwoodward: Do you agree to restore some these pictures? Se above. Thanks? Yann (talk) 16:12, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

If you're going to do more than a very few of these -- like Commons:Deletion requests/File:The-head-of-the-holy-loch.jpg‎, could you mark them as minor, please? I can see my watchlist with hundreds of restorations.....

Thanks, .     Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 19:59, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

You were a little bit early with restoring the Vigeland pictures, there is still 18 minutes left right now. :-) But then I will upload my bunch now as well. Happy new year. Haros (talk) 22:43, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

Merci d'avance Bien cordialement PH George — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vrecourt88 (talk • contribs)

Cordialement Ph GEORGE Vrecourt88

Flickr licenses

I did check, and it was written: "Some rights reserved". What does it mean to you? To me, if some rights are deserved, then the image is not useful for Wikipedia.

Same user had another image deleted, in the same conditions.

Yanguas (talk) 19:57, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

@Yanguas: "Some rights reserved" might be OK. This is different than "All rights reserved." You have to check the license: CC-BY and CC-BY-SA are OK, but CC-BY-SA-NC or CC-BY-ND are not OK. Regards, Yann (talk) 20:01, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

Category:Bentley 4½-litre 1930

It is easy to see why you sent me the message you did on my talk page. However the only alternative is Bentley four-and-a-half-litre 1930. A Bentley 4,5-litre is a meaningless name to anyone with a knowledge of the subject. You throw away a famous (perhaps not to you) name and replace it with merely a common classification.

The act you request / endorse is not unlike a Wikipedian renaming of an article formerly Frenchman Napoleon to Frenchman Corsican - is that not where the man came from? Are there other famous Corsicans? He could still be found couldn't he. This is an encyclopaedia. Any reader just needs to think about it for a moment or two. Could any readers mind that? Well, I think a lot of them do. Very warmly, Eddaido (talk) 23:42, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

Photo of the High School "Dante Alighieri" - Rome

Hallo! I have noticed that you have just deleted the following file: File:Liceo Dante Alighieri-Roma.jpg. The image that I had loaded is taken directly from the web page of the High School "Dante Alighieri" of Rome, where I am a teacher. It is not subject to any copyright and may be used freely. In particular, it has been extracted from the following URL: http://www.liceodantealighieri.it/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Where-we-are1.pdf . I hope that you could reconsider your decision. Greetings. Teo Orlando

@Teo Orlando: Every image has a copyright. Please send a permission. See COM:OTRS for the procedure. Regards, Yann (talk) 17:31, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
@ Yann: as a permission, is it sufficient a letter by the headmaster of the school, also attached to an email? Whom should I send this letter to?
@Teo Orlando: The permission should come from the copyright owner. That's usually the photographer, or whoever the copyright was transfered. The permission should be sent to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org Regards, Yann (talk) 18:29, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Greetings mate! I have recently uploaded File:Universitatea de Vest din Timişoara logo.png and it got marked because of copyright violation. This is the logo of West University of Timişoara and I'm willing to use it for university's infobox. It is free to use because you can find it on other Romanian websites as a visual identification of the university. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andreialba (talk • contribs)

@Andreialba: Well, it is not free of copyright. You need the permission from the copyright owner before uploading it here. Regards, Yann (talk) 23:39, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
@Yann: Hello mate. I've uploaded another one and provided a website of the author ( DCI ). As you can see, logo for UVT ( University ) it's free to use as you may download it by your will. There is also a manual with instructions of how you can and can not use it. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andreialba (talk • contribs)
@Andreialba: Please do not do that. The image is a duplicate, and does not have a license again. Anyway, you may not copy images without a permission from the photographer or the designer. Regards, Yann (talk) 06:30, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

User:Murilo Grillo

Hi Yann, a happy new year. I have seen that you have blocked User:Murilo Grillo for two weeks. However, after doing some research about his recent 2 uploads, for results see Commons:Deletion requests/File:Suzie Zeldin The Narrative 9 de agosto de 2011.jpg and Commons:Deletion requests/File:Banda uo.jpg, IMO we should consider a longer, if not an indef block, due to the rather malignant behaviour. What's your opinion? --Túrelio (talk) 09:42, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

@Túrelio: Nothing against that. Please do. Yann (talk) 09:46, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Logo Armentières

Bonjour,

Hi. You nominated File:Logo.armentieres.png for speedy deletion. I reverted that edit. The file seems to me ineligible to copyright. You can nominate it for regular deletion request. This lasts a week. Taivo (talk) 14:37, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Hello Sir...

I carefully read your letter along with other letter from other Wikimedia Instructor and administrator I received before telling me that you delete my work because it has a copy right violation.

Kindly if you please check the last ten items (for example) I upload to Wikimedia Commons you will find that they are an artwork painting I entirely draw by my self and I upload by my self so they are obviously an (entirely my own work as I read in the upload page software).

I read the Wikimedia instructions and I am a person who is work hard to contribute to the wikimedia and you will not find a person like me in my country nation that has this intention to contribute and help, only have to live up to all human society all around the world and has a strong motive to work hard to develop humanitarian issue and contribute to the renaissance of science and art as mush as I can.

I work hard and all what is I am uploading are my paintings art work and my pure thoughts and new views of ideas and novel insights of my own thoughts production.

Kindly please don’t delete my work. I respect you and I hope you see how mush time I spend to work on this, I have sacrificed my time at the expense of my work and my livelihood and daily living pension in order to work this ideas, Novel insights, new views idea, my own Art work paintings, and I hope that it will benefit people in all Countries.

However I respect your view and promise Free man promise and pledge not to Upload ,and publish more Work , until you and other administrator in wikimeda & Distinguished colleagues in wikimedia commons give me a permission for that.

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Britannic sinking.jpg

Hello Yann. How do we know this image is more than 70 years old, or otherwise complies with PD-UK? What is the source? Kablammo (talk) 17:51, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

@Kablammo: Well, it's quite obvious, unless you are looking for very improbable reasons. This case is very well covered in the template. Yann (talk) 17:55, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
Yann, this is not a photograph; it is a drawing, which for all we know could have been created recently. The date listed for the image is actually the date of sinking, not the date of image creation. We need provenance here to assert that it fits within PK-UK. Regards, Kablammo (talk) 18:02, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
As I said above, this case is very well covered in the template: An artistic work other than a photograph (e.g. a painting), which was made available to the public (e.g. by publication or display at an exhibition) more than 70 years ago. This is not a modern drawing, and there is all reason to believe that it was created and published shortly after this event. Do not try to look for problems where there is none. Yann (talk) 18:10, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
Where is the support for the belief that it was created and published shortly after this event? We have recent examples, in fact in the very history of this image (when a recent painting by Ken Marschall was substituted for this image), of recent works of art of historic events being claimed to be public domain. Personally I would like to be able to use this image, but a belief that is is old does not make it so. Kablammo (talk) 18:19, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
You can believe that it was created recently, or you can look at the reasonable probabilities than it was created and published shortly after the event. Yann (talk) 18:29, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

Doré by Nadar

Deux points au sujet de ce fichier. D'abord, il me semble impossible à retoucher...

Cordialement, Yann (talk) 16:24, 31 January 2014 (UTC)

Banknotes from India

Hi Yann- If I'm not mistaken you once asked about images of Indian Banknotes. I am scheduled to be digitizing at the Smithsonian the last week in February. Was there anything in particular you were interested in seeing, or just an assortment of earlier (better) notes?--Godot13 (talk) 21:37, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

@Godot13: Yes, old Indian bank notes would be nice. I am also interested by portraits of Gandhi, Tolstoy, and Ruskin. Yann (talk) 07:08, 2 February 2014 (UTC)
Interesting. I think I have seen a proof engraving of Gandhi by the American Banknote Company, but I need to find it. I'll see what I can do regarding banknotes or other engraved portraits for the others.-Godot13 (talk) 19:00, 3 February 2014 (UTC)

Image retirée

Bonjour Yann,

Cordialement, Yann (talk) 20:25, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

Noaptea Muzeelor (Romania)

Hello Yann, I'm a volunteer and I've created this page: ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noaptea_Muzeelor ‎ for the teem Museums at Night from Romania. For this page I've created the photo Logo eveniment Noaptea Muzeelor - România, ediţia 2014, File:Header_NoapteaMuzeelorRomania_2014.jpg using photo from Angela Iacob (coordinator Bucharest) representing logo edition 2014. Why have you removed these photo? Could you gently re-insert them? Thank you, PheonixRo. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PheonixRo (talk • contribs)

@PheonixRo: Because you forgot to add a license, and this seems to be a poster. I think it would be best if you send a permission for this file. See COM:OTRS for the procedure. Meanwhile, I restored it and created a proper DR. Regards, Yann (talk) 05:41, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Dinman Arya.jpg

Hi, Yann. I have been thought about people, who use Wikipedia only for self-promotion and uploading personal files without other useful contribution. I have nominated their all uploads for deletion and generally they get all deleted. But this request you closed as kept. Formally, yes, you are right, the file is used. But the user has not made any useful edits in Wikipedia. As much as I know, Commons has no policy about persons who make nothing in Wikipedia except userpage and uploading selfies for them. What do you think about that? Maybe you want to alter you decision? Taivo (talk) 13:35, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

@Taivo: Yes, I understand your point of view. As you said, we don't have a policy against people uploading a few pictures of them. In fact, this is explicitly allowed. It would be better if people contribute, but deleting this image won't help about that. May be he will contrbute in the future. AGF. On this very same day, I deleted 10 images uploaded for self-promotion. My opinion is one image is OK, 10 are too many. So let it be. Yann (talk) 14:22, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Deleting ryanleafdraft.png

Hello,

I'm just curious as to why the photo that I uploaded, File:Ryanleafdraft.png, was deleted. It says that there was some copyright problems, but as far as I know, the copyrights checked out since the photo was freely published on the internet, and the owner not only did not give proper info in the source, but also did not explicitly say that it was copyrighted. However, my investigation skills are not ideal, so I would like some input. Please reply to me message on my talk page on the English wiki, which can be found here.

Thank you for your time and I hope to hear back from you. Aerospeed (talk) 01:07, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

@Aerospeed: There is nothing freely published on the internet. All documents have a copyright by default. You need the permission from the photographer before uploading anything here. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:24, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Dreiländerbrücke.jpg

Hello Yann,

I have made a DR on an image which is made in France. We have here a special case because the bridge, which is the main object of the image, is situated on the german-french border. But from my comprehension this bridge (build 2006-2007) is protected by copyright of the architect. Images from Germany are coverd by the Freedom of Panorama, so no problem. Images from France are not, so they have to be deleted. Please look carefully at this case. Thanks, best regards --Wladyslaw (talk) 07:28, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

@Wladyslaw: Well, I personally think that our interpretation of the no-FOP restriction on pictures of architecture and buildings is completely exaggerated, so I won't comment on this matter. I know that most other admins think differently. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:31, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
Can you argue why? --Wladyslaw (talk) 10:33, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
Either because the copyright is quite dubious or nobody really care. This is the typical arbitrary rule put against ordinary people: a completely inapplicable rule is created. Almost nobody care, but time to time, somebody brings this rule out of the box. Commons should not follow this kind of rules. Regards, Yann (talk) 16:59, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Deletion requests for image uploads at Wikimedia - User:Mansoor Ijaz

REPLY TO: Copyright violations

Hello Mansoor Ijaz,

You have uploaded several files that are copyright violations and you have done so despite our requests not to do so, and despite our instructions. If you do not stop uploading files that are not free, your account will be blocked. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Image casebook useful. Please leave me a message if you have further questions.

Yann (talk) 15:05, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Hello User Yann
Your admonition is misplaced. I have not knowingly or willingly violated any copyright rules of Wikimedia Commons or any other entity associated therein. In fact, I have done my utmost to correctly and credibly source each entry that was not from my personal archives. I have only added those images that I thought would improve the texture and understanding of written words in the articles I edit. Those images that were from my personal archives for which you added Deletion Requests on my Talk page have been directly justified with clear evidentiary statements in my responses to you on your Talk page.
Would it not serve the Wiki community better for you to offer help BEFORE you make judgment, then to mark-up, delete and then after the fact offer your help?
As a result of your wholesale deletion of everything I tried to do to improve the articles I have edited, I have decided not to use Wikimedia to upload anything until I have resolved my dispute with you directly with the editorial community. Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons are supposed to be a collegiate exercise in helping each other, not mocking and not treating us as if everything we have done is wrong. I strongly object to what you did today - if this is what Wiki is all about, I no longer wish to participate in this project.
Mansoor Ijaz (talk) 18:50, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
One more point -- I asked for help on January 26th. TWICE!!! No one helped and no one gave any proper advice about how to do any of this. You of course had access to the same HELP request as anyone else visiting my Talk page to see that I was having some difficulty understanding the rules and wanted clarification. You certainly did not help me then, nor before you took your hostile actions today without even trying to understand my rationale in how I chose the licensing of each upload. I again ask, what agenda do you have against me, and from what source does your bias arise?
Mansoor Ijaz (talk) 18:58, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Dear Yann, I have responded now to each of the deletion requests you made. The obvious violations that were deleted (Jones Chamber of Commerce or Jones Atlantic Council), which I did not understand were such because when I uploaded, I made clear that I did not know what the licensing was and that I found these images on the internet, which images I thought enhanced the articles I was editing.

Your subsequent deletion requests of materials that are genuinely my own (my weightlifting photos or my All-American certificate, etc) show bias and malice in the wholesale manner in which your deletion requests were made. If there is something I have genuinely done to violate Wikimedia rules, I will voluntarily delete or ask something to be deleted. I am even happy to just stop contributing in positive ways to Wikimedia and Wikipedia altogether if I am deemed to be violating the rules so unceremoniously. But this is not at all what I have done. I have made contributions from my private archives that are my own to give and license for the benefit of the public at large because most of the uploaded contributions have historical value and give important context to the articles I am editing.

Your cavalier assertions simply ignore all that, as if you know better than I do what is mine to give, and what is under my authority to license to the public domain. I am perhaps not as seasoned an editor as you are, but rather than taking the stance you did, you could have also placed a note on my talk page to ask me why I licensed something the way I did, and if I was wrong because I do not understand something, either we jointly agree to delete it or I re-upload with proper licensing. I am willing to learn. I am not prepared to let someone's agenda against my person be played out in public.

Sincerely Yours,

It is publicly documented that I transmitted the Memorandum from Pakistan's ambassador to the United States at that time to Admiral Mullen through Gen. James L. Jones. The memorandum image uploaded is from my own files. The Memorandum was typed on my computer from instructions given to me by the ambassador.

This image was also created by me personally from the copy of the original letter which I hand carried from Syed Salahuddin to President Clinton. This document exists in my personal archives and the image was generated by me to emphasize existence of the peace offer made by a Kashmiri leader that requested the American president's personal support. This letter proves important assertions in the Kashmir section of article "Mansoor Ijaz". I scanned a copy of the letter into a JPEG image and placed it in the article to give a controversial subject matter verifiable context in image form. The original letter exists in the archives of the United States government. I believe I have the right to license this as my own work since I personally delivered the letter and it exists in my private archives and is also in the public domain.

Not own work, no source, bogus license. Yann (talk) 15:03, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Note to User Yann: this is indeed my own work because I earned the All-American status, and I own the certificate, and I scanned the certificate in from the original copy in my possession. Under those rules that I read and understood from Wikimedia, this is indeed properly licensed and my work. The cavalier manner in which you have questioned every single one of my uploads indicates bias and prejudicial motivation. Why?

Mansoor Ijaz (talk) 15:07, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for your response.

Is there a way to correct the ones that may be problematic then? Meaning, can they be corrected after the fact? Certainly, of the ones above, the Bashir letter, the Kashmir letter, the Clinton photo (White House), the GenAbe and Reagan photo qualify as US Government public materials. The weightlifting is my personal material from my personal archive. I don't see any way in which you can question that.

Help Request with Redundant Image Upload

Hi Yann,

Can you help me figure out how to re-upload this particular image? It was originally uploaded by another user that I had asked to do so when I was not aware of how to upload images. The Wikimedia Upload Wizard now makes that process so much easier. I do not know how to delete that image, and still wish to use the image in my Wikipedia Article.

I thought I uploaded it correctly this afternoon but it still shows when I log in to my account as some sort of problem.

Maybe you can help me out, I find Wikipedia so confusing. :) I'm trying to upload a photo of Avan Jogia that reflects him at 22 (the last photo is from him when he 17 ) and all the copyright rules are baffling me. Hi Yann, I just wanted to ask you about this. I'm still the baby admin here and most of my uses of the tools are either uncontroversial copyvios or OTRS-related so I'm very happy to take advice from more experienced admins, but your suggestion of creating a DR and immediately closing it is not something I've heard of before. Is that normal practice? And do you not feel that the permanent link to the OTRS/N thread in the deletion log is sufficient context? Thanks, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 13:14, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

@HJ Mitchell: Hello,
Sorry for not answering before. I don't think there is a policy about special cases like this one, but I know that creating a DR and closing it immediately has been done by several admins.

Merci !

Amicalement, Vanoot59 (talk) 11:35, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

@Vanoot59: Bonjour,
Cordialement, Yann (talk) 13:27, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

Merci beaucoup ! Vanoot59 (talk) 15:06, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

Deletion of Jose_Amparado_Rosabal.jpg

10:59, 17 February 2014 (UTC) Hi Yann,

The photo File:Jose_Amparado_Rosabal.jpg belongs to the family, however, it was taken by someone some years ago who can no longer be located (I would very much like to continue using it in the article). Also we have several pictures that are of my great-grandfather, some going as far back as the 1930's... what would be the best license to place these photos under?

Thank you for your time in advance. Sincerely, GoldCertificate

@GoldCertificate: Hello,
Family pictures are a bit of a problem here. Commons is very strict, and requires a permission from the photographer, or that there are in the public domain. Even pictures from the 1930's are not readily accepted. If the photographer is not known, it then depends if they were published, and where. Sorry. Regards, Yann (talk) 07:48, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi Yann,

The particular picture that has been deleted was placed on the internet already; we gave permission for an obituary website to display it. So in regards to File:Jose_Amparado_Rosabal.jpg, how can I have it reverted back to wiki without a problem?

In regards to the photos from 1930's, I suppose the best bet would be to place them as photos for the public domain? I really would much rather have them placed as family property (we are very certain they have not been published by anyone).

Thank you again for the assistance.

Regards, GoldCertificate, 09:41, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

@GoldCertificate: Hello,
Try to send a permission fo OTRS. They may be able to give you a better advice. See COM:OTRS for the procedure. Regards, Yann (talk) 14:46, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

My 539 images have met 15,025 usages; 94.25% of my work has proved to be useful; I may have been right when not stopping nor deleting vandalisms no vandalism having happened in the files I watch; but when vandalisms do occur, I need tools at hand: which ones? Copyright Tags on My Images.

Good morning. I have received a plethora of Copyright claims, sent by you, on works that Me, Myself and I have created and uploaded onto Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia. I would kindly like to ask why this is? Why do I need to provide permission information for something that I created and uploaded? Am I really that famous that I need to prove it's me? I'm pretty sure a lot of people have never heard of me or my works! :P Also, that February 19 expiration date is pretty harsh! It's 3am in the morning on February 20 here, and I'm starting to think this is both a conspiracy to kick me of Wikimedia and a conspiracy to keep me awake with 11+ email notifications! Dear Yann,

could you explain to me what do i need to do in order to have the image accepted. If i had the name of the person qho took, will it be ok?

Commons:Deletion_requests/File:SUDHA_SONI.JPG

Hi, Yann. At first I kept the file speedily and categorized it, then you deleted it speedily. I am not sure, who is correct. Probably is now the best to wait until end of regular request, one week? What do you think? Taivo (talk) 18:38, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

@Taivo: I think there is a serious privacy issue with this image, and it is not used, so if the uploader want it deleted, I don't see any reason to refuse that. Regards, Yann (talk) 18:43, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
I do not see privacy issues with version I kept. Let's imagine, that she will become a famous scientist or politician and some newspaper finds the photo and publishes it: when she was younger, then she looked like that. And so? But encyclopedic value was weak, nothing irreplaceable here, valuable only as stock photo, so ... this was not big loss for Commons. For me, case closed. Taivo (talk) 19:01, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

Concerning an image

Hello I have an important question. How do people upload game covers to the wiki pages without getting them removed? Also, the image File:Bokujou-monogatari-tsunagaru-shin-tenchi.jpg was deleted, how do I know when I can use such images? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Judgementwolf (talk • contribs)

@Judgementwolf: Hello,
Game covers are only accepted on the English Wikipedia under fair use. Regards, Yann (talk) 16:58, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
@Yann Hi again, so can I use the image here or some where else? I'm a new editor and I would not like to make the same mistake twice and please provide a link. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Judgementwolf (talk • contribs)
@Judgementwolf: See en:Wikipedia:Non-free content. Regards, Yann (talk) 06:59, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
@Yann so by Wikipedia's non free policy I'm allowed to use the image in question under the rules that no substitute cannot be used.
This rule(No free equivalent. Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available, or could be created, that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose) and Template:Non-free video game cover—for video game covers.) so can I re-upload the image using these rules and guidelines?
@Judgementwolf: Hello, You have to do it here: en:Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:19, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Nana Ntumba

Hello! I’m not sure you noted that two hours after your closing of Commons:Undeletion requests/Current requests#Commons:Deletion requests.2FFiles uploaded by Nana Ntumba a new DR was filed on the same images, with the same rationale. -- Tuválkin 16:41, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

Some admins have a weird understanding of Commons policies. :( Yann (talk) 16:59, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
I didn't reopen the DR, but I might have. Tuvalkin did not bother to tell me that he was posting an UnDR and misrepresented my comments in the UnDR. I think your undeletion was premature. .     Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 20:17, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
Apologies to Jameslwoodward for not having explitedly linked to the undeletion request; I assumed that the ping from {{u}} would be enough. However I’m sure I didn’t misrepresented his role in the original deletion — as I even linked to his own characterisation of it: Indeed, he didn’t ignore the keep-vote argumentation (not this time), he simply didn’t notice it. -- Tuválkin 21:24, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
For reasons I don't understand, your reference to the specific discussion on my talk page did not create a ping -- I think for a ping to happen you must refer to a user, not link a talk page.
It is true that I didn't notice your comments when I closed the DR. However, your misrepresentation comes with failing to mention that at your instigation I went back to the DR and considered each of your comments in detail, including making comments.
Your comments in the 1st DR — interspersed among mine with no distinguishing formatting and no signature or date (just like the one above by the way; something wrong with your tilde key?) — were added after the DR was closed by you. (Also an unorthodox thing, to add stuff to the blue area.) In the undeletion request I stated that when you closed the DR you were not aware of my expanded keep-vote rationales, because I created a subheader, something I learned from you. Your subsequent comments simply confirm your opinion, but the process allowed more views to be given to the matter and the fate of these images doesn’t depend on any legality about the closing of the 1st DR. I will in turn consider each of your replies in detail and comment them in the current DR. (And applogies to Yann to be squatting like this in his talk page.) -- Tuválkin 07:33, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
Jim, I maintain that deleting these was a bad idea, and Fastily reopening the DR is doubly wrong. Regards, Yann (talk) 04:22, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
Bullshit. Your closure of the UD request is a blatant violation of COM:SCOPE. I recommend familiarizing yourself with that policy before humiliating yourself in public like you currently are. Cheers, FASTILY 09:11, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
Fastily, first stay polite. You may have different opinions, but you are quite wrong here. No need to display bad words, it won't change that fact. Yann (talk) 09:15, 10 February 2014 (UTC)

Besoin d'aide

Face-smile.svg Très cordialement, --Claude Truong-Ngoc (talk) 09:55, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Igor_Birman_for_Congress_photo.jpg photo wrongful removing

Yann,

This photo (File:Igor Birman for Congress photo.jpg) comes from a United States congressional campaign and is considered public domain. I am in contact with the campaign itself to verify that it is available for public sharing, and I have explicit approval that the photo is duly qualified to be included into the Wikimedia Commons. Please undo this removal as soon as possible.

Respectfully, Hubbardc

Consultation on deletion of a picture "File:Jorge-Felipe de Sajonia-Gessaphe.jpg"

Dear Yann, you are right in delete the other photo (named: "File:Hereditary+Prince+Hubertus+Saxe+Coburg+Gotha+qqvx0r42zIhl.jpg"), although it is freely available on internet, she has a copyright by his author. I really misunderstood the Wikimedia Commons rules about that.

In the other photo that I upload (named: "File:Jorge-Felipe de Sajonia-Gessaphe.jpg") although all the pics of the website whence comes the aforementioned are copyrighted, the photo in question was edited by me and is not the same to the one that is shown in the original website. Does this fact have any impact in the deletion made by you? or do not have the lowest importance...

Thanks for ur time and patience with my poor english! — Preceding unsigned comment added by GaboPV (talk • contribs)

File:Asit Kumar Haldar 1913 The Beginning Tagore.jpg

Yann, I think you incorrectly removed the speedy tag from File:Asit Kumar Haldar 1913 The Beginning Tagore.jpg. This file was deleted per Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_in_Category:Asit_Kumar_Haldar as it's only PD in the US, not in its source country, it was then temporarily undeleted and tagged with {{PD-US-1923-abroad-delete}} so that the bot User:Commons fair use upload bot would transfer it the appropriate local wikis. The bot did the transfer, and when done, the bot tagged the image for speedy deletion. For some reason that I can't figure out you declined the bot's speedy. —RP88 05:37, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

@RP88: Hello,
Actually this reproduction was also published in USA, so it is OK on Commons. Regards, Yann (talk) 07:31, 22 February 2014 (UTC)
Yes it's PD in US. That's the point -- we know it was published in the US in 1913, but we don't have any evidence that is PD in it's source country (India). See the DR discussion. Presumably this is why Fastily deleted it at Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Asit Kumar Haldar. —RP88 07:53, 22 February 2014 (UTC)
Also, if you're going to overturn the DR, shouldn't you undelete all of the images that were deleted in the DR? It seems inconsistent to keep the one, but delete the other two. —RP88 07:59, 22 February 2014 (UTC)
@RP88: Hello,
I requested undeletion of the last one in Commons:Undeletion requests/Current requests. As I said there, the original might not be in the public domain in India, but this reproduction is in the public domain where it was published. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:12, 22 February 2014 (UTC)
To keep things simple, I'll reply over at the undeletion request, so the commentary is all in one place. —RP88 08:17, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

Mumbai Monorail RDs

Hi! This is in relation with following 15 RDs. I don't quite understand how you have decided to keep all these images. Do you mean it's okay to host images on Commons that do not allow derivation? COM:L says "Publication of derivative work must be allowed." (italics in original text)

In case we are permitting this, we have many other sources of Indian Government websites which can be used. Earlier some user had asked me a doubt about [7] and reading and interpreting it i had asked him that we can not host images from pib.nic.in. But can we actually host them? §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 06:52, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

@Dharmadhyaksha: Hello,
As I said, this does not forbide creating derivative, but only using the documents in a misleading manner. BTW, you should not create 15 different DRs when the issue is identical for 15 different files. Please create a mass DR in this case. Thanks, Yann (talk) 08:36, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
1. It says that it should be "reproduced accurately". 2. You created the DRs after i had requested speedy deletion. I was going to come here and FYI you that you should have created mass DR. But what was done could not have been undone anyways. In addition third point, when you yourself have voted for keeping the images, you shouldn't actually be closing the DR. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 17:20, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
Hi again! Whats your say? If there is no change in your opinion, i would like to take others' views on this issue. If you are still working on it, its fine and i won't bother others yet. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 08:13, 24 February 2014 (UTC)
@Dharmadhyaksha: OK, I asked the question here: Commons:Village_pump/Copyright#License_and_copyright_for_Indian_government_documents. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:27, 24 February 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for opening the discussion. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 10:20, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

Bandeau de suppression inapproprié

Bonjour Yann,

Cordialement : --Anandali (talk) 09:17, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

@Anandali: Bonjour,
Cordialement, Yann (talk) 09:26, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

RJ Balaji photo

I have sent OTRS the following mail. Hope it will look acceptable:

“The Chennai-based photographer Vithun Ravindran shot a picture of two men: RJ Balaji (the man with glasses) and rapper Aadhi. I have attached the picture to this mail. Although he has given me permission to use the picture on Wikimedia Commons, he has refused to mail OTRS. As a result, I have photographed the written permission he gave and attached it to this mail. Because Balaji is the main subject in the image, I have also attached to this mail a cropped version of Vithun's picture that shows only Balaji.”

And attached to the mail are three photos: Vithun's permission, the image of Balaji and another man, and the third one is the cropped version featuring only Balaji. Have I done right? Kailash29792 (talk) 16:28, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

Don Suisse reproduction photos
