Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Reminder[edit]

Hi Bremps. I noticed that you've made a malformed deletion request, twice omitting reason, subpage, transclusion, notice to the page creator, year, month, and day. Here, {{Delete}} is not for speedy deletion, please see COM:DP. When you want to delete a page by manually using the {{Delete}} template (rather than the automatic Nominate for deletion or Nominate category for discussion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests and COM:CFD#Starting requests), you must follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy or the "By hand" portion of COM:CFD#Starting requests, normally collapsed), otherwise you will create a lot of work for other people. — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ_{please ping or talk to me}🇺🇦 17:26, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean this image? It was tagged as public domain under an FBI tag, even though it had a watermark stamped by the Sheriff's office (implying the FBI did not take the photo). I don't know whether the Sheriff's office releases their work into the public domain (the assumption is that all works are under copyright); if they do, you can reupload it with an appropriate copyright tag (preferably linking to whatever relevant statute releases their work into the public domain). Not a VRT member or anything but the "Waiting for VRT" line bothered me so I'm just gonna say that there should be a Permission pending temple instead of that, since "Waiting for VRT" doesn't do anything in terms of actually marking the file as pending. Hello @Reppop, turns out the campaign and I had a misunderstanding over the meaning of "public domain". The campaign is refusing to license the image (as Desvignes, a Republican, doesn't want to be seen with Willis) so I have thus flagged both files for deletion. I think this clears things up.
