Hi JoJan, for an articel for Wikipedia (Deutschland) y need a picture of Marcus Furius Camillus, the man with armory and flag in this picture. Do you maybe have some more pictures of this room in the palazzo vecchio? --Beelzebubilein 15:36, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid not. This is the only one. JoJan 15:51, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JoJan, I have requested the deletion of this picture at Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Siena.Contrade.Pantera.jpg, for the following reasons: This artwork is still copyrighted, having been created in 1977 (reference), freedom of panorama does not exist in Italy. If you disagree, please say it so on the Deletion page. Jastrow (Λέγετε) 10:14, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Who is the original creator of this painting, and when?

Thanks for uploading Image:San Domenico90.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. I am afraid there is a bit of confusion in what you say. It is in the public domain the work (1) that has been put there by his author (in our case: Who is he? When did he do it? Where is the donation?) or (2) whose author died at least 70 years ago (and who is the author, here, to check when he died?). The fact of owning a piece of art does not imply you own its copyright. In fact, an artist owns the copyright of a work until his death even after he sold it. And his heirs inherit the copyright for 70 years. Like it or not, this is the law. If you can't provide evidence the work is in the public domain, it will have to be deleted. Which is a pity, since it is nice. Best wishes. --G.dallorto 21:06, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
PS I Almost forgot: the drawing belogns to an exhibition about the story of Bologna I remember visiting in 1985. It had been made expressely for the exhibition, therefore in 1984/85, and it is not therefore "old": just a bit agé...
Well, it was presented to me as an old drawing (16th-17th century). I didn't know it was made for an exhibition in 1985. A real pity, because it could have been used in an article about the history of Bologna. So, deletion it is. JoJan 13:14, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Translation of template[edit]

Hi JoJan, it's me again. I've created the template IHL Symbol in English and German. Other users have provided translations for Norwegian and Polish versions. Could you take a look and create a Dutch translation, as well as contact other Commons users you know about other language versions? Best regards, --Uwe 19:58, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for the translation. I've created a Dutch version of the template which you can check here. The links which are included were those which I found via the Interwiki links from the English and the German to the Dutch Wikipedia. Based these Interwiki links, there seems to be no article in the Dutch Wikipedia about the Hague Conventions, so I used the English link instead. I kindly ask you to correct me if there is such an article, as it seems a bit odd that no such article exists, considering the geographical location of Den Haag as well as the place of the city in history and in the world of international law, and the significance of the Hague Conventions for the development of international law. --Uwe 18:23, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? I've changed the license tag into Pd-self, since I made the photo myself. JoJan 16:00, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello JoJan,
I have added the "location possible" template and category to your photo Image:Wien.Albertina.jpg. If possible, please provide details of the location where you took the photo using the {{location dec|Lat|Lon|heading:XXX}} template. If I have time, I will do it myself; please make sure to check on it and do this yourself if you can. Thank you, Florian Prischl 09:17, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If I remember well, this location is in Vienna at the corner of the Albertina furthest away from the Hofburg and next to the Kaisergruft. A detailed map of its location can be found at [1]. You'll have to add the geotag, since this is not my "thing". JoJan 14:43, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It says clearly that : "Drawings done by former FishBase artist Robbie Cada are public domain and can be used freely. However, we would appreciate a proper indication of the source." In other words : they are public domain and can be used freely. Then what is the problem ? JoJan 14:37, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, sorry, I didn't find this notice at first time. And I think that PD template will be more right. ~ putnik 17:07, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Istanbul pictures[edit]

hello there JoJan,

I see that we both have been to Istanbul and the Topkapi sarayi, wasn't that place just great? I am trying to sort out the numerous images into categories as specific as possible, please take a look here into what I have done so far Category:Topkapi Palace. Now there are a number of images that I just cannot figure where they were taken, maybe you could help out? for example, Image:P1010034a.JPG or Image:P1010040a.JPG. Not only are the names not in order since they have to be more specific, but where was this taken? also Image:Topkapi Palace 02.JPG. thank you. sincerely Gryffindor 06:24, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate the work you're doing. Image:P1010034a.JPG shows most probably the Iznik tiles on the left side of the marble fountain before the Arz Odasi (Audience Chamber); Image:P1010034a.JPG is probably in the Harem garden; while Image:Topkapi Palace 02.JPG is in my opinion made in the arcade (where the old artifacts are on display) before the kitchens in the second court (the columns seem to match and there is also grass visible). Good luck. JoJan 14:43, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers. What about this one Image:P7060042.JPG? Could you by any chance maybe browse through the other images as well just to check if they are in the right category? Gryffindor 03:53, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the surroundings, I would place Image:P7060042.JPG in the Tulip Garden in the Fourth Court, perhaps at the connection between the Mustafa Pasha Kiosk and the Physician's Tower. I trust you're doing the categorizing meticulously. If I can find the time I'll check the other images as well, but I'm very busy at this moment with dozens of articles in the pipeline. Jan Van Wavere[edit]

I am really impressed. How did you know? Frankly speaking, I use the same description that the one on the postcard sold in the church itself.

After checking Google with the real name, I found this Jan van Wavere. Do you have more information about Jan van Wavere?

By the way, I moved your image to the corresponding category: Category:Deutschordenskirche (Wien).

Thanks Alberto Fernandez Fernandez 18:17, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've recently visited the exhibition "Diptychs of the Flemish Primitives" in Antwerp and today the Europalia exhibition in Brussels. So when I saw the name Nicolaus van Wavere mentioned in the changes of this article that I wrote, I wondered who that was, since I never had heard of this name. A quick search brought me to Jan van Wavere (and his workshop in Mechelen) as the real author. I used for the inline reference in the article the same reference as above. Jan van Wavere is also mentioned in Marketing Art in Antwerp, 1460-1560: Our Lady's Pand in the journal The Art Bulletin, Vol. 72, No. 4 (Dec., 1990), pp. 558-584. There is obviously not much published about this sculptor. He is one of those artists in desperate need of a thorough study. JoJan 18:52, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I modified the page to make clear that he only did the polychromy. Painting and woodcarving were probably executed in Brussels.(as for the Janders altarpiece)
I found the trace back to other works of Jan van Wavere(n). I found them on the nl.wikipedia Dimpnaretabel van Jan van Waver (1515) and on the sv.wikipedia Jäders kyrka. I updated the Category page accordingly [Category:Jan van Wavere] and posted the corresponding image requests for more PD pictures.
Strangely enough, detailed picture collection of the Janders altarpiece belongs to the Koninklijk Instituut voor het Kunstpatrimonium in Brussels
Thanks for triggering this quest ;-) Alberto Fernandez Fernandez 11:42, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not surprised to find one of his retables in Sweden. Production of retables was big business in Brussels at the end of the 15th century. These retables were much in demand by the church and the upper class all over Europe. About forty retables were exported to Sweden. The retable from the church of Strängnäs, Sweden (from the workshop of the family Borman) is one of the several retables now on display at the Europalia exhibition in Brussels. JoJan 12:57, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I will be back to Brussels in few weeks. I will have to choose between the Da Vinci exhibition and this one. By the way, can we take pictures in the Europalia exhibition? Alberto Fernandez Fernandez 17:59, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No pictures allowed (very strict control). If you have to choose, go to the Europalia JoJan 13:45, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

are you really sure that this armour is "english"? the leg's protection is not english at all, the same about plates on the mail (Idot 15:32, 27 November 2007 (UTC))[reply]

PS please check http://www.geocities.com/normlaw/page9.html OR http://web.archive.org/web/20041109195408/http://www.geocities.com/normlaw/page9.html for the same type of armour (Idot 15:33, 27 November 2007 (UTC))[reply]
I'm afraid you didn't read well the explanation. It clearly says it's Turkish. But it is on display in the English tower, so called because the English chapter of the order of Malta resided in this tower. JoJan 21:03, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
