Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Museo de Historia de Madrid

Buenas, MiguelHermoso. Te escribo con referencia a una categoría que has creado recientemente en Commons dentro de la del Museo de Historia de Madrid. En el apartado de las colecciones pictóricas de dicha institución ordenadas por siglo, en el siglo XVIII se encuentra la categoría "La Puerta de Alcalá vista desde La Cibeles" en la que hay fotos de 2 cuadros distintos, no solo de uno. En concreto las cuatro que van de "Aguirre Alcalá 05.JPG" a "Aguirre Alcalá 08.JPG" corresponden a la Puerta de San Vicente, y no a la Puerta de Alcalá (como yo mismo he añadido en su texto). Convendría añadir una nueva categoría que refleje ese hecho con las 4 fotos que he citado y cambiar el nombre de los 4 archivos en cuestión a, por ejemplo: "Aguirre San Vicente 01.JPG", "...02.JPG", "...03.JPG" y "...04.JPG". Yo no estoy muy ducho en el funcionamiento de Commons (apenas toco ese apartado, con lo que no se como va eso de categorizar, si no lo haría yo mismo). Provenance question

File:Léon Delafosse Seattle 02.JPG: no doubt that the image is OK (the painting is public domain) but you say you photographed this at the Seattle Art Museum in 2014. That seems impossible to me. The painting is normally in the Brooklyn Museum; it was on temporary exhibit for a Sargent show in Seattle in 2010. Can you explain? - Jmabel ! talk 16:35, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments France 2019

Bonjour,

Le concours Wiki Loves Monuments France est de retour et ouvert jusqu'à 31 septembre ! Déjà 8310 photos ont été importés cette année, vous aussi rejoignez le concours !

Le concours concerne tous les monuments présents dans la base Mérimée (qu'ils soient classés, inscrits ou simplement classés). De l'imposant château aux ruines industrielles, de la chapelle au coin de la rue aux mégalithes en forêt, c'est un impressionnant patrimoine qui attend d'être photographié et documenté. Où que vous soyez il y a des monuments autour de chez vous. Enfin, vous pouvez mettre en ligne autant de photos que vous le souhaitez de ces monuments. Pour information, le règlement est disponible sur le site du concours. Nous attendons vos photos avec impatience !

Les plus belles photos seront sélectionnées par un jury national composé d'amateurs et de professionnels, de contributeurs à Wikimedia Commons et d'acteurs du patrimoine. Un jury international sélectionnera ensuite des meilleures photographies mondiales.

Si vous avez des questions, l'équipe organisatrice se fera un plaisir d'y répondre.

Le concours Wiki Loves Monuments France est ouvert pour une semaine encore, jusqu'au 30 septembre. Déjà plus de 6 000 photos ont été importées cette année alors vous aussi rejoignez le concours ! Cette campagne de contribution concerne tous les monuments et objets mobiliers présents dans la base Mérimée et dans la base Palissy. De l'imposant château aux ruines industrielles, de la verrière décorative au reliquaire, c'est un impressionnant patrimoine qui attend d'être photographié et documenté. Vous pouvez dès à présent mettre en ligne autant de photos que vous le souhaitez de ces monuments et objets du patrimoine français. Nous attendons vos photos avec impatience !

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry. If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution.
