OK, I shifted your image (file) to 13-06-2016, because there were finished texts for my file in different languages and nobody want to change them.

And for future - if you want to give new video to this page, be very carefull, becase every new visitor of Commons will see it in moment of opening Commons page. For this reason there is neccessary 1) this video should be high quality and 2) you shoud good and clearly fill the description of video - text will appear under your added video on Commons home page. It is not enough just enough to copy 2 - 3 words, which you find saved with this video (sometimes is the decription there very good), but it is recommended, that this text will contain some links to some Wikipedia articles or Category in Commons. FP clusoure

Hi, I noticed you closed some nominations today (I did a few yesterday). Just a question as I have not done it before; I see you let them stay now on the FPC page while I removed them immediately. Is there a "non mentioned" period that they should remain there, or are they automatically removed later ? If it's done manually should it not be mentioned that they should stay for a while in the instructions. /Daniel78 (talk) 20:39, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Yesterday I left some nomination in state, when only votes were calculated but images were not sent to appropriate files. I wanted to do this today, but I found, that colleage Claus deleted it from FP list. I ask him to give this edit back and I am prepared ti finish my job. Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Dear Karelj,

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).

• In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
• In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:

K tématu asi následující: 1) Klasický pseudoargument - Na enwiki ti tak mají.

2) Hlavní - Mě se to tak líbí a hodlám v tom pokračovat.

3) K zamyšlení - nějak nevím, proč by se wikipesta vašich kvalit a vědomostí měl zabývat takovými prkotinami až pí...nami. A když už se zde procházíte, nechtěl byste zkusit přidat nějaký český popisek sám? Slibuju, že za něj nebudu přidávat tečku. Ale ono je s tím asi moc práce, hledat odkazy, atd atd, že?

„Na enwiki“?? WTF? Odkázal jsem vás na pravidla českého pravopisu. Popisků obrázků dne jsem na Commons udělal dost a dost. Malta images

Hi Karelj, just to let you know in case you have more images of that area.

• The hotel name "Hotel Dolmen Resort" is misleading. There is no dolmen. It's the Buġibba Temple you took photos of. I took some more images of this temple that I will upload until week 43.
• Buġibba (spelling!) is not a city for its own but belongs to St. Paul's Bay. Hence File:Bugibba hotel Dolmen Malta 4.jpg shows Night in St. Paul's Bay.

Coordinates of 3 images

Hi Karelj, I just noticed that you reverted my changes to the coordinates of three images (camera position). However, if you follow the link to one of the maps, you will find out, that those coordinates cannot possibly be correct. I just replaced the faulty coordinates with the correct ones.

• 
  Coordinates point to the Cortile del Belvedere (correct position: Northeastern part of Cortile della Pigna)
• 
  Coordinates point to the Cortile del Belvedere (correct position: Northern part of Vatican Museums - just under the octagonal glass roof)
• 
  Coordinates point to a position in Via della Traspontina (where Castel Sant'Angelo is actually covered by another building; correct position: Largo Giovanni XXIII with Palazzo Pio in the back).

Well, the template has to be added manually. So it is often forgotten/ not present on the file description pages. Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign for User:The Photographer

Please excuse me spamming you. As a regular on Feature Picture Candidatess you will recognise User:The Photographer, who has 86 Featured Pictures. His contributions cover the architecture and culture of Brazil and Venezuela. He has basic photographic equipment: an old D300 camera and 35mm lens, and lives in a poor country where photographic equipment is expensive. The Photographer has recently taken several images using the technique where multiple frames are stitched together to create a high-resolution panorama. However, many times frustrated with the stitching errors that result from trying to take such photos without a proper panoramic head for his tripod. This special equipment permits the camera to be rotated around the entrance pupil of the lens, and eliminates such errors. Having a panoramic head would greatly increase the potential for The Photographer to create sharp high-resolution images for Commons. In addition, the purchase of a fisheye lens would enable 180 × 360° panoramas to be taken, which are a great way to explore a scene as though one is really there.

Bombajský přístav a Mumbai Harbour

Zdravím.

Na anglické Wikipedii mají jednak článek Mumbai Harbour (povšimněte si velkého "H" na počátku druhého slova), který má v podtitulku infoboxu napsáno, že pojednává o "Neighbourhood", a kromě toho článek Mumbai Port Trust, na který je přesměrováno i heslo Mumbai Port – a to je podle úvodní věty článek o přístavu.

Podle článku Mumbai Harbour je synonymem Front Bay, přičemž vztah mezi oběma pojmy vyjadřuje věta "Front Bay is home to the Mumbai Port, which lies in the south section of the western edge of the harbour."

Do češtiny je to těžko přeložitelné, protože "harbour" i "port" překládáme jako přístav - "harbour" je asi spíše celá zátoka využívaná jako přístav a "port" asi spíše infrastruktura v té zátoce. Nicméně pokud infobox článku Mumbai Harbour pojímá téma jako "neighbourhood", tak je tím asi míněna celá přístavní čtvrť, byť je to asi neformální urbanistická jednotka. Každopádně "Mumbai harbour" s malým "h" by asi název čtvrti už nebyl. Každopádně dvěma anglickým článkům by měly odpovídat dvě položky Wikidat, resp. dvě sady interwiki a dvě kategorie Commons, které budou navzájem v nějakém vztahu. --ŠJů (talk) 01:24, 17 December 2016 (UTC)

Can I check you supported the version you intended? Hallo, Triven, your video is very nice. I shall try to explain, how to add caption in other language, but I an not sure, that it wiil be enough explicative.

First you will go on maim page of Commons using the language in which you plan to contribute (Hindi..) Then under the Picture of day you will click on Previous Media of day. On new page you will go down to the video with date 09-02-2019 and under the picture you will open Template:Motd/2017-02-09 (xx) (where xx is abrevation for your language). On the other screen you will open the description in English, click on Edit and you will see the English description in good format ({{{Motd description|1=Little bird Eurasian blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus), looking at the camera.|2=en|3=2017|4=02|5=09}), copy it - (Ctrl-C) and paste in your Template (Ctrl-V). Then you will write desriprion of video in Hindi on the place of english text and change the letters on abrevation of Hindi language (I do not know it) anf finaly save the page.

Question about species identification

Hi, Kareljǃ I'm here from the English WP wondering if you could confirm/corroborate your identification of the caiman in your photo File:Paleosuchus palpebrosus Prague 2011 3.jpg as Cuvier's dwarf caiman, Paleosuchus palpebrosus. The Mořský svět's website has no details of their exhibits. A valid concern has been raised in the image's use within an article that it could be a closely related species (the smooth-fronted caiman, Paleosuchus trigonatus). Unless you specifically remember details of this photograph, I am interested in finding out how you acquire the Latin species names when taking a photo of an animal. Do you write down the name of the species from interpretive signage at the institution, or endeavor to identify it yourself after your trip to see the animal? Hi, Rhinopias! I am not the biolog or expert on caimans and that is why, I am sending to Commons only images of aminals (plants, trees...) from ZOO - garden or botanical gardens, when I could by practically sure, that the name of an object is correct. This is also the case of 3 photos Paleosuchus palpebrosus Prague 2011_1,_2,_3.jpg which were taken in Mořský svět and on original photo Nr. 2 (before cutting and further impovements) I can see the name of object: Paleosuchus palpebrosus. So if you agree, that the species on images 1 and 2 are Paleosuchus palpebrosus, then it is practically sure also image 3 is the same caiman species. And also, comparing some others (not mine own) images in Category:Paleosuchus palpebrosus, I do not see differences. With regards --Karelj (talk) 20:36, 23 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi, Happy New Year for you, too. Regarding these two above entioned files:

File:'Russia’s Tibet’ Opens to Jet-Age Tourism.theora.ogv was uploaded on Wiki in the November 2012, more than 5 years ago. It is also placed in the 5 different articles in Wikipedia and untill now nobody cared about its source or some author rights. So also I automaticall assumed, that these details were checked by somebody and everything was OK.

File:A3800 F-WWDD LeBourget 2013.ogv was uploaded on Wiki in the June 2013 from Youtube and I also expected, that during cca 5 years somebody checked it with positive result in that time. From my point of view, the fact, that this file is not on Youtube page now - this is not reason for deleting it from Commons.

So briefly - I do not see here reasons for deleting these two videos from Commons. But if you feel, that there is necesary to move them from Vidoes of day list, you should replace them with another files, which you consider to be good. Well, my answer was little bit ironic, little sorry for that. But, on other side, I do not believe, that we live in such Absurdistane, where an image of a beer bottle, which is possible to buy in any supermarket, in thousands food-shops, could have copyrights problems because of its label. On Commons there are placed hundreds, probably thousands of beer bottles and cans photoes and I never heard about situation, where any producer of beer or author of label caused any problems for Wikipedia. Zdravím. Chápu, že ne každý může rozumět všemu, ale než někoho opravujete s několika vykřičníky, tak se aspoň pokuste si ověřit, jestli náhodou na nesmyslu netrváte Vy. Pokud jste ještě nikdy neslyšel o rozdílu mezi zesnutím (dormition) a nanebevzetím (assumption), tak si přečtěte pro začátek třeba en:Assumption of Mary#Assumption vs. Dormition či naopak en:Dormition of the Mother of God#Dormition versus Assumption. Není zase až tak těžké poznat, co z toho znázorňuje ten obraz. :-) Je pravda, že Zesnutí PM je typické pro východní církve a Nanebevzetí PM pro římskokatolickou církev, a rozdíl plyne z odlišné tradice. Východní ikonografie pronikla i do západního umění a částečně se s ním prolíná, ale Zesnutí a Nanebevzetí PM jsou stále dva různé motivy, zcela jinak zobrazované, snadno rozlišitelné. Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2025 voting is open!

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2025 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the twentieth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favourite images featured on Commons during the last year (2025) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just five images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on 18 April 2026, 23:59:59 UTC.

Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.

I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.

Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!
