Hello, Grashoofd!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Thanks for uploading File:MirandaC.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. Hi Grashoofd, your AWB access request has been archived. If you'd like to make a new request, please go to COM:RFR, and be sure to explain more clearly what you need access for. You mentioned "pre-parse mode" but that's not clear enough. Thanks, Rd232 (talk) 21:32, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, ja, bedankt voor de melding! Grashoofd (talk) 17:00, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Groet, Joris (talk) 19:54, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Slechte zaak! Grashoofd (talk) 20:07, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
JethroT (talk) 09:24, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File:HollywoodTowerofTerror.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Categorieen[edit]

Edoderoo (talk) 21:17, 19 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Transferring images from another project[edit]

Hello, Grashoofd. Would you please consider adding the original upload log of files you transfer to Commons? This can help people track it down at a later time. The best tool is CommonsHelper, but if that's down (which it often is), you can use File upload history generator, which is almost never down. Thanks for uploading File:BudColligan.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

No required license templates were detected at this file page. Please correct it, or if you have any questions please contact me on my talk page. Yours sincerely, Jarekt (talk) 18:57, 31 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed, thanks. Grashoofd (talk) 19:21, 31 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As the photographer, Rebecca Colligan is the presumed copyright owner. Unless you are the copyright owner, please consider replacing "pd-self" with "pd-author" for this image. See Template:Pd-author for instructions on using this template. Thanks. Davidwr (talk) 20:29, 1 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
What in the... First: PD? It's not public domain, and it doesn't say that anywhere.. are we even talking about the same image? (Also, I only transfered the image from enwiki, so obviously I'm not the owner.) Permission states: "I, the copyright holder of this work, hereby publish it under the following license: This file is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license." Seems okay to me, right? Grashoofd (talk) 15:00, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've emailed the company that's named in the metatags to confirm their permission, too. Grashoofd (talk) 15:07, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Re: 15:00 2 Feb. comment: I was wrong. I meant to say that if you are not the copyright owner, replace "self" with "Cc-by-sa-3.0" or some similar template that does not falsely claim that you are the copyright owner. There is already an OTRS ticket on file for this image, so the actual permissions aren't an issue. The only issue is whether you, the uploader, own the copyright and if not, using a template that doesn't say you do. Davidwr (talk) 23:35, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clearing this up, I've changed the template. Best, Grashoofd (talk) 10:49, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement[edit]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open![edit]

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Dear Grashoofd,

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. 2. In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
 3. In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.

We also sincerely thank to all 4070 voters for participating and we hope you will return for next year's contest in early 2015. We invite you to continue to participate in the Commons community by sharing your work.

Cyclic Corrosion Test Chamber[edit]

Hi, I noticed you changed the tag at File:Cyclic Corrosion Test Chamber.jpg.

I'm somewhat inexperienced here at Commons. Please have a look at my query at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard#Mismatched copyright and OTRS due diligence, which relates to that image as well as several others uploaded by the same person that don't have any OTRS ticket. I am unsure what tag is appropriate, or what procedure to use to nominate for deletion. Amatulic (talk) 19:06, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, nevermind. I just looked at the ticket again and noticed you've been trying to straighten it out. Thanks. The situation will get resolved one way or another, I guess! Amatulic (talk) 19:10, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi dear, i noticed you put that tag for the images, I did personally that image. So can I send a mail to permissions-commons? But if a send now the email, the image will be deleted before they give me the permission, or is there a tag that I can put to say "I sent permission just wayt some days"? or something like?

Hi, if you send your permission today or tomorrow, I will take care of it straight away, since I have access to the permissions-commons account. Best, Grashoofd (talk) 07:26, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
hi, i sent permission just 10 minutes ago, I fixed the permission tag in beppecosta.jpg because I sent permission with gfdl so I put the same license under the image. I was right or I was wrong? Thanks again--Stefiro (talk) 07:39, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Photographs by Jac. de Nijs[edit]

What does a description "fotograaf" mean when you hide the category? Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 17:25, 27 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 12:33, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't make the rules Jan.
Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 13:14, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Groetjes - Romaine (talk) 01:27, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Romaine. Groeten Grashoofd (talk) 10:32, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Animals in zoos cats[edit]

Hi, I'm glad to see you've done some work on zoo cats. However in the future, when creating any type of "Animal in zoos" category, please remember to include it not only in the respective zoo category (for instance, "Birds in Saratoga Zoo" but also the correct taxonomical "in zoos" category (such as "Sciuridae in zoos"). --Pitke (talk) 23:45, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Grashoofd, Why do you keep on removing No license template from File:Jovanna-verheyen-hugues-van-holderbeke-1408293857.jpg without adding the actual license? See here and here. All files are required to have license at the time of the upload or they are tagged with No license template. Having or not having OTRS templates has nothing to do with need for a license. I looked up the ticket and added the proper license to this file but in the future please do not remove No license tags without adding license templates. --Jarekt (talk) 17:16, 29 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The license was included, but was hidden (<!- -->) due to the fact that I hadn't received the proper permissions yet. We can't place the CC-template while that permission hasn't been received yet (meaning that people can use the file under the CC-terms). Please let me do my thing, I'll take care of it. Grashoofd (talk) 15:51, 31 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Photographers from the Netherlands[edit]

Groeten Grashoofd (talk) 09:05, 22 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
