It was a cropped version, because I could only find a watermarked version online and my scanner is broken. Since you've found a large unwatermarked version, I have no objections to uploading it overtop of mine. Max Rebo Band (talk) 16:54, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The image has been released with the written authorization of Jagex, as can be read at http://services.runescape.com/m=forum_pt/l=3/forums.ws?10,11,1,28,goto,32

Its worth noting that JMods are official representants of Jagex, and the forums are the only way the customers have to get in contact with the company, even to adress copyright matters.

Hello, I have no doubts about person who issued the permission. Main problem is that permission allows usage only for wikipedia article. It dont say anything usage outside of WF projects, nor about commercial usage. Ann I cant see anywhere Creative Commons license in the text - maybe it's hidden in your post that are blank for me --Justass (talk) 22:35, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bulgarian Orthodox Church

[edit]

The site of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church says: "Св. Синод на БПЦ благославя използването и цитирането на материали, но при точно позоваване на източника - Българска Патриаршия (http://www.bg-patriarshia.bg) при съблюдаване на всички авторски права." This is more than sufficient to prove that the files I have uploaded from that site can be used for whatever purpose as long as the source and the author are acknowledged. I have done all that, so there should be no problem.

Hello, permission given on website allow to use media with attribution, but it doesn't say anything about commercial usage and further more it dont say anything about derivatives (making modifications to images). Those two main priciple permissions must be in all media files presented on Commons and with current permission images from http://www.bg-patriarshia.bg are not free enough for Commons. Please visit Commons:Email templates, fill email with links and ask representative from synod send to email given on your talk page. Thank you --Justass (talk) 22:22, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Coconut_trees,_Savaii,_Samoa.JPG"

[edit]

Hi I think you deleted my photo. I took the photo myself so I'm the author. It was one of the first photos I'd uploaded to Commons and I hadn't understood the different types of licensing and ticked the wrong box. Can you revert the delete or do I have to upload it again? Thanks. Teinesavaii (talk) 20:33, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I only tagged file with speedy deletion tag and left a notice on your talk page. Deletion was done by administrator Kved, please ask him to restore photo. Of course if you still have the original image you can upload it again, but please remember that Commons accept only free media in term of licensing without any restrictions. That was the reason I tagged image as it had non commercial usage restriction. Thank you for your contributions --Justass (talk) 21:57, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but this picture is my own work, I don´t understand why it was deleted. Euskaldunaa (talk) 14:08, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this picture had a non commercial restriction added by you to the permission field (CC BY-NC-SA). Commons accept only free content usable by anyone, anytime, for any purpose, including commercial usage. Your restriction on such usage was against Commons licensing policy --Justass (talk) 15:41, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK. But what can I do if I want upload my own work picture? What kind of permission I have to use? Maybe CC BY-SA? Euskalduna (talk) 20:24, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's absolutely up to you under what license you want to release your photos. {{Cc-by-sa-3.0}} or {{Cc-by-3.0}} are all allowed along with many others. Please visit Commons:Copyright tags for list of all possible licenses tags, but please remember that any additional restrictions for usage such as non commercial or non derivative or wikipedia only are against Commons policies. If you agree to remove non commercial restriction, I can restore your photo File:Mendaurreko_urtegia.JPG --Justass (talk) 19:36, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I´m agree because I take that picture to use in Basque Wikipedia. I will use the {{Cc-by-sa-3.0}} or {{Cc-by-3.0}} licenses in my next own work pictures. Thanks for your help, Justass. Regards. Euskalduna (talk) 21:10, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

banning images

[edit]

Dear Justass, stop banning my uploads. These images are free content by government of Estonia, there is no copyright by them. Secondly, the pictures I uploaded are used in the common english wikipedia as well. Just wanted to make sure, that they can be used for all wikipedias. --Dias87 (talk) 00:54, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, photos you have uploaded are tagged with absolutely wrong license. As I sad in your talk page photos published on the official Estonian website are not covered by public domain exemption in the Estonian copyright law. Besides as you can see I didn't tagged with problem tag any coat of arms that are in the public domain by the same Estonian law. If there is any clear statement on the Estonian Defence Forces website that photos are in the public domain or covered by any other acceptable license please point me to it. Otherwise you have to have written permission from copyright holder to upload and license images made by someone else. --Justass (talk) 01:14, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

images

[edit]

My images were on the English Wikipedia, I believe there is no problem 10:55, 21 December 2009 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by KiraTHO (talk • contribs)

First image File:4x4 Evolution DC.jpg is cover of copyrighted game, English wikipedia allow usage of images under Fair use terms. Commons don't, under any condition. Second image File:UDS.svg was a clear Flickrwashing, image was not a creation of flickr user who claimed false copyrights over it. You were already blocked for extensive uploads of copyright violation, please spend at least few minutes to read First steps guide --Justass (talk) 11:06, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. At Undeletion requests page was explained that band must send COM:OTRS for this file. COM:OTRS was sent, and image was uploaded again (for valid link in e-mail). What's wrong?

Hello, undeletion request was closed with decision "Remains deleted". When there will be verified OTRS permission, I will be happy to restore this image, please contact me when you will have OTRS ticket or it will be done by COM:OTRS member if he has administrator rights on Commons. --Justass (talk) 15:15, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Excuse me, I don't khow how to get ticket (at COM:OTRS I read only about volunteers, i.e. COM:OTRS members). Is there FAQ or other explanations about tickets?
I am not sure there is any FAQ, but for any questions you may have and more speedy verification please refer to Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard. OTRS ticket is issued after volunteer verify the permission. He/She then add template with number to the image, of course in this case first it needs to be restored. Besides information about passed verification is send to the email address from where permission was send --Justass (talk) 15:34, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Muntazeri

[edit]

Hello! First: I was not the original uploader of the file file:Muntazeri.jpg, I just transfered it from en:wikipedia. I am really surprised that Commons deleted it so fast when there has been absolutely no action against it since December 2 on en:File:Muntazeri.jpg. And I am more surprised by the speed as the template You added on my talk page says I should write something on the file's talk page if I think it is ok - but nevertheless the file is deleted within thirty minutes(!!) - well, I do not know whether You can be on Wikimedia Commons all the day (I usually visit it just a few times in a month). And at the end, I think it is not too polite to write "Please do not upload copyright violations" edit-summary when You take into consideration all the circumstances, especially the fact that I was not the original uploader and the fact that there were no objections against the file on en.Wikipedia. Thank You for Your kind understanding. Okino (talk) 15:30, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I fully understand your feelings, but this is standard procedure to inform the user who uploaded / transferred the image. First of all it inform you about copyright violation, secondary you may want to take actions against the same image on source wikipedia, thirdly you may want to more critically evaluate images you transfer to Commons. In this particular case when image was marked as "own work" with {{PD-author}} tag by Theverdict111, but in reality was property of AFP press agency there were no reasons to wait any longer as it was clear copyright violation.--Justass (talk) 15:48, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Just noticed that file:Muntazeri.jpg was deleted by Polarlys, not me. Please understand that it may look like too fast and harsh action but with the constant flow of copyright violations Commons have own procedures of speedy deletion for obvious cases --Justass (talk) 15:55, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, on Wikipedia there is "Assume good faith" policy. Before I uploaded the picture to the Commons, I had controlled the time of uploading to Wikipedia, I had controlled it was not a fair use picture, I had visited the web of origin and I had looked after the license there - and as there were no clear breach of the rules, I uploaded the picture. I do not know how You managed to find so quickly that the picture is property of AFP - sorry, I do not think a standard user can do that like You. So I am quite critical when evaluating images, maybe You may instead want to be less critical to other users, when You see a potential breach of rules - and secondly You may want not to follow Your own procedures of speedy deletion so automatically and You may want to address really the people that provided Wikipedia/Wikimedia community with the pictures. You can see that my talk page here on Commons is full of various "do not breach copyright" and other notices and all of them ignore the fact, that I am not the original uploader of the image (although until You no-one had directly asked me not to upload copyrighted material, which I try my best to avoid!) which makes me feel that the Commons watchers take it sometimes little bit too easy... Anyway, have a nice day, Okino (talk) 17:26, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We obtnained the license for using the image Mappa sedi.jpg {{crediti|http://www.comune.torino.it/cultura/biblioteche%7C2009120710020793}}. Bye. Phaeton011

Hello, I am not the OTRS member thus I cant see what it is written in the permission and who issued this ticked, but Google maps are always copyrighted, despite from what website it comes. Pixar character

[edit]

Hi, I myseft uploaded many images from the same Flickr set, but have left those images with visible fictional characters because they are not covered by COM:FOP in Italy and are copyrighted creations of Pixar. Thanks for your work uploading images --Justass (talk) 16:45, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure this is link to FOP. This show a lot more than just fictional characters. May be you should do a mass deletion request rather than a speed deletion request. - Zil (d) 17:34, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Justass. In the past the ETA logo has been deleted since it was considered to be copyrighted material. That's why the only valid photo now iw the one in which FOP applies. VERY IMPORTANT : FREE MUSICS

[edit]

Bonjour Justass,

--JCAILLAT (talk) 11:23, 25 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, sound clip File:MultiMorphing Demo MedalComposer.ogg was deleted by User:Polarlys becouse it had a non commercial restriction added by you "Les musiques Medal sont libres de droits pour un usage non commercial.". Commons accept only free content usable by anyone, anytime, for any purpose, including commercial usage. Your restriction on such usage was against Commons licensing policy. Would this image be suitable for local upload on Wikinews as the subject is now deceased? --Brian McNeil / talk 00:15, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, image was deleted because it was false marked as United States government work, but indeed was copyrighted by Corbis photo agency. I am not familiar with Wikinews policies about using copyrighted images without permission, but you can check Wikinews:Fair use, it may allow such upload locally. Best regards --Justass (talk) 00:31, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Also please check other images of Rafael Caldera available at Commons Category:Rafael Caldera --Justass (talk) 00:43, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • If there had been nothing else, Wikinews policy would've allowed local upload of that. I got something from the same time period; a fair-use claim would only have been appropriate for something considerably more recent — and not with the copyright owned by a large news agency like AP or Reuters (which Wikinews is "technically" in competition with). --Brian McNeil / talk 03:36, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You should use Image:Wikiquizlogo.png instead. - Noddy (talk) 15:07, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the non-commercial restriction didn't come from the uploader, but from the author of the software used to generate the music: "[Ces mélodies] sont libres de droits pour le consommateur final dans le cadre d'un usage non commercial." "[These melodies] are copyright free for the end-user for a non-commercial use." If we don't get permission from the author of the software through OTRS (and there is no indication that the uploader even contacted them), we cannot keep this file. –Tryphon 13:05, 27 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour,
Cordialement. --JCAILLAT (talk) 14:01, 27 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, as User:Tryphon pointed out above, website Realcomposer has a non commercial restriction for the content hosted there. Commons cant accept such content an d we need direct permission form the owner of the website to release media without "non-commercial" restriction. Please go to the Email template page, fill the link to this music file, forward to the owners of http://www.realcomposer.com/ and ask them to send signed email to the permissions-commons@wikimedia.org email address. By doing this we could verify that the original authors allow commercial usage for this file. You can read more about verification process at Commons:OTRS/fr. Thank you --Justass (talk) 14:10, 27 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please close that Deletion requests. Jacson (talk) 11:42, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

State your arguments in the deletion request page not on my talk page. But in short, if you take a photo of somoens else poster you cant claim copyrights over the image because it is derivative. Deletion request will be closed by another administrator not me --Justass (talk) 11:43, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is not derivative work, is another file, the angle is diferent. But is similary. Jacson (talk) 11:47, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You don't understand the point, image I linked as example is just to show how billboard is look alike. Of course image you uploaded is made in another place in another time but it is a photo of poster (copyrighted work) and author of the photo cant claim copyrights over someones else work --Justass (talk) 11:52, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The file is Free, has been take on street, so isn't have copyrights. Jacson (talk) 11:54, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are absolutely wrong. Please read Commons:Freedom of panorama, but in Canada where this image was taken there is no FOP over 2D works, and obviously billboard is not permanently placed object --Justass (talk) 12:00, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Justass. Thank you for your quick response to my deletion requests and further deletion of other copyvio images uploaded by User:ThunderbirdJP. What was very impressive for me was that you properly find the original author of File:Toyama Airport-富山空港.jpg and saved it from deletion. Did you just found the original version on ja:富山空港 by your own sense or did you use any magic, or tool? Could you kindly let me know the secret? Thank you. --Sushiya (talk) 03:50, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

the cd cover im trying to upload is from ReinXeed (The Light and Higher). please some help :)

Hello, Commons is not Wikipedia even here we host some of the images used by English wiki as well as other wikis. Music album covers are considered as Fair Use images and are not allowed at Commons unless you have written permission from the authors, because only author can issue the permission to license them freely. From other hand english wiki allow such usage in some extent and you can upload copyrighted images locally. See Wikipedia:Non-free content. You account was created only yesterday and still dont have permission to upload any image to English wiki, you have to wait 4 days and make at least 10 edits (I am not sure does it count edits you make on your own userpage and subpages) --Justass (talk) 15:22, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Переговоры об удалении файлов

[edit]

Hello, move poster File:Lopukhi epizod perviy.poster.jpg along with the move itself are fully copyrighted by producing company "Каскад". The fact that this poster was freely available to download from the official website doesn't diminish copyrights over it, unless somewhere on the website there were a statement that image can be used by anyone, anytime, for any purpose, including commercial one. Availability on the other websites doesn't make any differences too, because only copyright holder can issue the permission. The fact that website now is down doesn't let me check such statement and the only option to get permission to "freely" licence move poster would be to ask producing company to send email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org with permission. Please see Commons:OTRS.
Same situation with the photo of Георгий Пицхелаури File:2.Georgi Pitskhelauri.jpg. Web links you presented ruskino or rusactors doesn't say anything about freely licensed image. Fact that actor's agent presented image to some websites doest give permission to you to upload or put GFDL|cc-by-sa license over it. Again direct permission is needed.

Any image hosted on Commons has to be truly free, it means that author allow anyone to use, modify, or do what ever user want to. The only obligation is to name the author and give link to image (but it may differ from license to license). All available licenses are listed at Commons:Лицензирование.
For permission verification please send all emails that may indicate such information to the permissions-commons@wikimedia.org address and include links to the deleted files [1] and [2]. Best of all send in clear raw email data, with all technical information. You email will be reviewed by one of the OTRS volunteer (not me), confidentiality guaranteed. If presented permissions will be enough files will be restored.
Second option would be to visit Commons:Email templates, fill email template with link to deleted file, preferred license, and ask producer and agent to send signed emails to the same address. --Justass (talk) 21:25, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ken Block img deletion

[edit]

Hello,

I recently updated the Wiki page of Ken Block with an updated image as he has switched teams. I am a part of his marketing team, and the image belongs to us, not NYT- we provided it to them for the interview. It can be seen on our site, as well as his interview with USA Today. If you need any credentials you can contact us at info@monsterworldrallyteam.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by User:Ronzar (talk • contribs)

Hello, please visit Commons:Email templates page, fill link to the file [3], license of your choice and send it to the permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. For detailed instruction see Commons:OTRS. Thank you. -Justass (talk) 10:40, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Justass!

You have uploaded a higher resoluted file version of this image. Can you please update the source information of that file, too. Please state the accordant html-link - not the exact .jpg-link. Thank you in advance. --High Contrast (talk) 00:19, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Will try to find those images on website, but original full resolution images I get directly from the same URL, just changed http://www.kam.lt/images/thumbnail/?id=12426;w=984;h=506 to http://www.kam.lt/images/12426 --Justass (talk) 00:22, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My image

[edit]

Good evening!

From our pages (about Shmatko) the file the image has been removed Timoshenko_yulia_en_1.jpg. I am the author of this file. I allowed to use it for free use earlier. --92.112.230.19 20:36, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, file File:Timoshenko yulia en 1.jpg was removed because it comes to our attention that it is from http://www.kingofmarble-shmatko.com/ website where all content is copyrighted (© 2005-09 All Rights Reserved Nicolai Shmatko). Given those facts please visit Email template webpage, fill link to the deleted file [4], license of your choice and send this permission to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. File will be restored upon validated permission Thank you. --Justass (talk) 20:45, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

On page of news you can see - 20.06.2008 Ukraine, Lugansk (foto Rafael Shmatko) http://www.kingofmarble-shmatko.com/news_in/news12_en.html

Yes I see, but it doesn't say anything about free license just "All Rights Reserved" at the bottom. Could you please, write somewhere next to the image something like "This image is available under GFDL license terms" --Justass (talk) 20:54, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Now I have filled the form and and have sent the sanction permissions-commons@wikimedia.org After processing the information, please restore photos. Rafael

Improper deletion of European photographs from Wikipedia servers in the U.S.

[edit]

Hi Justass,

You may have been involved with the deletion of this image from the Wikipedia Commons, according to this report:

(diff) (hist) . . mb The Rose of Versailles musicals‎; 18:11 . . (-157) . . CommonsDelinker (talk | contribs) (Removing "Takarazuka_berubara_bronzestatue.JPG", it has been deleted from Commons by Justass because: No freedom of panorama in the source country.)

I wanted to point out that several people have been improperly deleting images from the Commons under the mistaken belief that they can not be published on Wikipedia because the country where the images were taken do not permit 'Freedom of Panorama' for their copyright systems. Unfortunately, these are serious errors, since it is quite proper to *publish* them first on Wikipedia's servers, which are located in the United State of America, a country which does in fact permit Freedom of Panorama. Copyrights apply to the country where the images are first published, and I believe that all Wikipedia servers are located in Florida, U.S.A., thus attaching U.S. copyright laws to all original published photos.

It would be improper to publish them without the owner's consent in the country where Freedom of Panorama is not permitted, but again, that does not forbid anyone at all from taking a photographs in those countries and then publishing them on Wikipedia in the United States. Please help convey this copyright information to all concerned, so that other important Commons photos are not needlessly deleted.

Best: HarryZilber 01:26, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Hello, indeed Commons servers are located in USA and Wikimedia foundation is registered in California. I am not familiar with every single wiki project policy about freedom of panorama so will try to comment on Common's policies about the issue. In Commons we have policy to obey every country copyright law where picture was takes, where it was published, time when it fall in to public domain and so on. All it is done based on particular county law, not on the USA or state legislations where servers are physically located. For example there were mass deletion of images with 3D artworks located in Russia, because they don't allow commercial usage of derivatives, as another example - you wont find a single image of Pompidou museum located in France. Commons as free content repository don't collect images that are free in the USA but free in the country of origin. Please read about if more at Commons:Licensing#Interaction_of_United_States_copyright_law_and_non-US_copyright_law and Commons:Freedom of panorama --Justass (talk) 01:44, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I would rather use english, my polish skills are not so good. Technically speaking it's not your image, you released it into public domain. But most importantly in this case - by blurring I saved your image from deletion. [edit]

Hello, I'm not completely sure this file can actually be uploaded to Commons. Perhaps you could help? The file comes from this website and they allow the picture to be used under these conditions: "欢迎转载传阅本网所有内容,但请注明出处" ("you are free to carry and transmit all content, provided use is attributed"). Does it mean it can be on Commons and, if so, do you know under which license? Thanks, WikiLaurent (talk) 23:56, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, please always give a link to the webpage where image is posted, because direct link to the image don't say anything about it's copyright status. I have changed source link and license so that reflects attribution requirement --Justass (talk) 00:04, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Seems to me the correct license would be {{Attribution}} in that case. However, since derivative works and commercial use are not explicitly allowed, I don't think it meets our licensing standards. –Tryphon 12:37, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed {{Attribution}} is more suitable at this situation. About derivatives and any usage, well technically speaking there is no explicit permission, but sometimes I think we shouldn't be so ultra demanding for correct formulation especially in countries without developed copyright traditions and widely know licenses. But if you disagree please take any action necessary because it's only my opinion with given facts --Justass (talk) 12:52, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Restore please my image.

Public Domain Sources for NORAD Track Map and 3D

[edit]

With a lot of Effort I found the NORAD Public Affirs ofr NORAD Tracks Santa for these two images -

File:NORAD Tracks Santa - Google Earth - 2009.png at http://www.flickr.com/photos/ntsnoradpubaffairs/4315258029/

NTS Public Affairs says: NORAD Tracks Santa - NORAD Public Affairs - Unrestricted Public Domain

NTS Public Affairs says: NORAD Tracks Santa - NORAD Public Affairs - Unrestricted Public Domain

These are images from the http://www.noradsanta.org/ website during Xmas at http://www.noradsanta.org/en/track3d.html and at http://www.noradsanta.org/en/index.html

YOU Seem to have a DELETE and ask LATER approach !!!!!

Please read your talk page, but if Flickr account is official NORAD photostream then I am a Santa --Justass (talk) 14:08, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's bogus, of course. All of the images were uploaded today (instead of in December when their PR efforts would be), and one of the images is a blatant copyright violation from this page. Anything with that as a source really should be deleted, although many of the images were legitimately from noradsanta.org to begin with. Carl Lindberg (talk) 16:28, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The real Flickr account is here. Where everything is marked "All Rights Reserved", interestingly. Carl Lindberg (talk) 16:52, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Generally I have no doubts that at least some of the images are indeed from NORAD Santa track website, but when user reuploads deleted content, ignores undeletion request outcome, creates sockpupets to evade detection and false Flick account with bogus sources it makes all things more complicated --Justass (talk) 19:16, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You Must be Santa per CNET, NORAD and the NORAD Santa tracker now has presences on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube and TroopTube.

At this web page http://news.cnet.com/8301-13772_3-10418101-52.html "the NORAD Santa tracker now has presences on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube and TroopTube. "

Do you believe what is in the press and on the Internet ??

You gave source for the File:Image norad why we track.jpg, and it seems everything is fine with the image. Please now do the same for the rest. As for the images from the Google Earth that were deleted it doesn't matter where you took those pictures, they are fully copyrighted by Google and acording to term of use allowed only for non commercial usage thus are not allowed on Commons --Justass (talk) 15:25, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This image Igualada-Museo de la Piel (30).JPG was emailed to me by Joan Grifols (calafellvalo), the author. In the email he wrote (in catalan) that I can publish it with no restrictions at all regarding copyright. Shall I send to someone a copy of that email?

Hello, please first of all change author and source of the images to the correct one. Then ask Flick user calafellvalo to change license. He can do this by clicking next to the license tags (Edit button) on the right side of the image. Please remember that Commons allow only "Attribution Creative Commons" or "Attribution-ShareAlike Creative Commons", current version prohibits commercial usage thus are incompatible with the Commons licensing policy --Justass (talk) 00:01, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

On the photos I uploaded. I placed the email from the owner saying I could use them. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2693/4327623767_f98874f857_o.jpg Is that not good enough?

No, it's not. Commons is not Wikipedia illustration hosting service, it's freely licensed image repository that may be used by anyone, anytime, for any purpose including commercial one. Permission you have states that images can be used only to illustrate Wikipedia, thus put strict limitation to the usage. Hi Justass, can you please explain to me why you deleted this file and why you didn't inform me on my disk before deleting it? Corrupted file is no explanation for me. If so I would have been able to upload it again. Regards, --Hsuepfle (talk) 20:09, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, with over 6 millions files on Commons I try to keep it as clean as possible. It took you 4 years to upload new, working, version, but it newer happen. Corrupted = non working, non usable, and according to Speedy_deletion#Speedy_deletion are subject to deletion --Justass (talk) 20:18, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. To be more clear - you vector file was build upon raster jpg image that existed locally only on your computer, thus making it absolutely unusable here --Justass (talk) 20:26, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't take me 4 years to upload a new image, I wasn't aware of the problem. The svg was the base for File:EtoshaBorders.jpg and it's intention is to have the source of the graphics overlay here to be able to update it if things change. I still see no reason for not contacting me. --Hsuepfle (talk) 21:12, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

VM Player

[edit]

I am using a free version of VM Player thereby avoiding copyright infringement. Thanks.

Hello, VMware player, same as all other VMware products, is fully copyrighted by VMware, Inc. So unless you are official representative of this company or you dont have written permission please don't upload derivatives of copyrighted products. Hello, this picture was taken by myself (as written?)... Why did you delete it? Regards, --Xavier1981 (talk) 18:47, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Little Mermaid or La Petite Sirène was created by Edvard Eriksen who died in 1959. Thus it is still copyrighted by Danish law, besides in Denmark freedom of panorama dont apply to sculptures, it means - that any derivatives as photos in this case are copyrighted too. --Justass (talk) 19:47, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for doing this. I'm still out in the weeds when it comes to creating a category. I want a Postcards of Selva di Cadore category under Postcards of Italy|Municipalities of Italy. Thought I had it made (literally and figuratively), but no. What am I missing here? I've clicked on the information links regarding category creation, but it's not sinking in. Cortina2 (talk) 00:14, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, actually you created gallery named Postcards of Selva di Cadore, if you press on this link you will see in the top tag "Gallery". Every category on Commons have it own namespace and must start with the "Category:" name. As for example you created http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Postcards of Selva di Cadore (and it's gallery), to create category you have to create it at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Postcards of Selva di Cadore and include in the newly created category links to top categories by adding [[Category:Postcards of Italy]] and [[Category:Municipalities of Italy]] (thou I don't think that last category is appropriate one) --Justass (talk) 00:36, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The lights finally went on. Thanks so much for your patience and assistance with this. Cortina2 (talk) 22:54, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Deletion requests/File:NORAD Tracks Santa - Twitter.jpg

[edit]

On Commons:Deletion requests/File:NORAD Tracks Santa - Twitter.jpg inapropriate language is used by user:BobJones0007. Strangely enough he signes some of his uploads as NORAD Public Affairs, Bob Jones, f.i. File:Norad tracks santa 180-90 multi-year.jpg. Not the kind of language for a public affairs employee. His contributions are interrelated with the work of User:Tomsmith0002.

A while ago you have warned tomsmith002 not create bogus Flickr accounts, impersonate NORAD, or create sockpuppets. Are you able to see whether BobJones0007 and Tomsmith0002 are the same person? Thanks Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 17:58, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I don't have any additional tools available only for the administrators except public logs that can be viewed by anyone. Request

[edit]

I made a request on Commons talk:Deletion requests/File:Backgroundsite2.jpg. Now if you see here, the first two are essentially the same request in too separate requests. Now if you move and merge the second one with the first one, it would save from have to make two comments when in reality you could make one comment for two deletion requests. I hope this makes sense. I am letting you know because you are an admin are you not? Mr. C.C. (talk) 06:43, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I am administrator. Though I am almost 100% guaranteed that both files will be deleted 7 days after the initial request, it would be a "bad faith" in messing up in the ongoing DR. All request have own pages like here and here and any change would require changing many links and potentially can broke up the history. Please express your opinion in one of the request and just post a link on the other --Justass (talk) 09:24, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! These photos are not violations of copyright, because they come from my own camera. Best regards.

Hello, in fact they are. The fact that you made a photo from TV or PC monitor doesn't make you a copyright holder of this image because it is copyrighted by the original producer. Please see Commons:Derivative works --Justass (talk) 23:57, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that...

[edit]

Sorry about the Thiago Motta image, I didn't realize I had been "Flickrwashed". Should the Flickr user who uploaded it be added to Commons:Questionable Flickr images? Thanks. TFCforever (talk) 02:23, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, just more critical look at low resolution out of sets images :) It would be a good idea to add it, but I dont quite know how to fill {{Qfi}} --Justass (talk) 02:29, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Political map of Tabasco

[edit]

Hi! I saw you reverted the changes I made in the political map of Tabasco. But you left the map is wrong, because the town of Jalpa de Mendez has red and green should go, so does the town of Tacotalpa it also has yellow and green should go. This is because both municipalities were won by the PRI. The map I had updated this right, thanks. Greetings--Alfonsobouchot (talk) 04:44, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, map you uploaded File:Tabasco ayuntamientos 2009.svg was corrupt as a media file and unusable, check this version [5] --Justass (talk) 11:27, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

[edit]

I am trying to redirect Kesha page to http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Ke$ha category. Can you show me how?

Hello, galleries are intended to show best images from certain category or demonstrate best pictures on some certain subject. There is really no need to redirect gallery to category. Any user will find category by simple search "Ke$ha". Please see Commons:Galleries --Justass (talk) 17:27, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I searched "Ke$ha". No such page was created. Because of that I tried to create a redirect to category. I read your link. Please see http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Galleries#Redirects "In the absence of a gallery, or if there is only a gallery with little or no content, a gallery title can be redirected to a corresponding category (a cross-namespace redirect)" It says it should be created. I am confused.

Ok, done [6] :) --Justass (talk) 17:44, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. How do I make such redirects? Your page says how but I only get foobar redirect. I read wikipedia info on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foobar foobar. It seems it is a example. How do you remove foobar with your own category page?

Loot at the Ke$ha's page code, by pressing edit tab on top, but in short you need to enter this - #REDIRECT [[:Category:Ke$ha]] --Justass (talk) 18:04, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK. You remove foobar with the category page in question? I understand then. Thank you very much for your help. Did I do it right http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Sandbox?

not exactly, you need to remove all text from the page you want to redirect and leave only #REDIRECT [[:Category:Ke$ha]] without any dots at the end or anything else :) But you get the idea --Justass (talk) 18:58, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh! Can you look http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Commons:Sandbox&action=history here? I did it right? When I saved the edit I was warned by abuse filter. Why? I didn't abuse.
Yep you did it right, as for the abuse filter you were warned because you replaced all page text with redirect. It looks suspicions for the bot, isn't it --Justass (talk) 19:18, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Everything is fine? I don't want to be blocked for abuse. How do you use signature? I don't know how to sign like you. Sorry for all the questions. It's OK to ask you questions?
Of cource feel free to ask what you want. For the signature type four tildes at the end of your text like this ~~~~. Also if you want to keep conversation more clean start your replay with colon+1, if it's first post then no colon, if it's reply type one at the beginning if reply to reply then two and so on --Justass (talk) 19:36, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Like this? Is there an easier way to sign? I do not want to paste Ke$ha (talk) 19:42, 22 February 2010 (UTC) all the time.Ke$ha (talk) 19:42, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You don't need to paste your name, just enter four tildes, wiki software will automatically replace them with your name and date when you hit submit button--Justass (talk) 19:44, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Weird. I didn't get those four tildes like you did. When you pasted your four tildes, no signature popped. How is that possible to do? My signature came up twice. When I meant easier I was asking if there is a button or something else to sign. Easier to sign. Ke$ha (talk) 19:49, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Look at the buttons on the edit screen, third one from the right, "Your signature with the timestamp" --Justass (talk) 19:53, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I copied your four tildes from above. ~~~~ like this I meant. I didn't know how. You must include nowiki? What is nowiki? Please see http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kesha&redirect=no. It's OK? I am trying to learn. This is hard. --Ke$ha (talk) 20:01, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
<nowiki> is technical tag to exclude any wiki-code from execution, in this case it prevents tildes to become code of signature. Yes redirect is fine, and your signature at the end of your replay ok too --Justass (talk) 20:06, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Thanks for helping me. I want to upload pictures from flickr. I am tired at the moment. I'll continue tomorow. Will you help me if you got time? I do not understand the licenses. It's confusing. I hope to see you tomorrow. Have a nice day. --Ke$ha (talk) 20:12, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again. I read http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Upload&uselang=fromflickr I think I understand most of what's said. Can I upload http://www.flickr.com/photos/fmc550uz/3352010398/? It has CC-BY-SA copyright? http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Flickr_images/Guide#CC_license_search says Attribution-ShareAlike License pictures are OK. Why does upload page say CC-BY-SA instead of Attribution-ShareAlike License? Two different copyright? Both have same pictures. It's a beautiful image. --Ke$ha (talk) 15:24, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, BY = Attribution, SA = Share-Alike. Its same license. Best of all for Flickr upload use Flickr upload tools it will handle all necessary information. But please do not upload just "beautiful" images, it would be better if you browse Wikipedia for the articles that currently dont have images and upload such. --Justass (talk) 15:30, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I'll try to find images to articles with no picture. Can you help me find some articles with no pictures? The image can be used on wikipedia's article on nature. Where can I see the policies on wikimedia commons? --Ke$ha (talk) 15:56, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Commons:Policies and guidelines --Justass (talk) 16:09, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'll read commons' policies. [7] OK? --Ke$ha (talk) 14:27, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:Coats of arms of the United Arab Emirates.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Another MaineMemory image

[edit]

Hi, you were kind enough to have helped me with a couple of images from this source several months back. I just uploaded a new image, File:Turner Maine flood 1896.jpg, but I still haven't mastered the art of taking the image from the MaineMemory source and converting to the wiki format. In this case, it may not matter much as the image is small on the page, Turner, Maine, where I've used it. But I just wanted to point it to you since you were so helpful before. Thanks! MarmadukePercy (talk) 06:21, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have uploaded image in full available resolution --Justass (talk) 11:09, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you :) --Justass (talk) 15:31, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. Well deserved. MarmadukePercy (talk) 16:45, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Also – and this is probably a dumb question – but are all the images on MaineMemory the same in terms of needing to be converted? I just uploaded File:Leavitt & Co. Sanford.jpg, and this image seems different. Thanks again for all your help. MarmadukePercy (talk) 18:17, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I dont know about all images, but every image that has zoom option can be downloaded with much bigger resolution then default image on the page. Re-uploaded this one too --Justass (talk) 18:52, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for clarifying that, and thank you again for your help. MarmadukePercy (talk) 21:45, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I uploaded two more images from MaineMemory – File:Camp_Russell_Pond_Maine.jpg and File:Russell_Camp_Maine.jpg – which will probably be the last images I upload from that website. I must say, though, that that web site is a great source for old photos! Thanks again! MarmadukePercy (talk) 22:08, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done with high res versions. Feel free to upload (and ask for help :) other images that may be useful, not just in the articles you edited but overall --Justass (talk) 22:46, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Darn, your turn-around time is unbelievable. :-) I did end up uploading two last images – File:Belle_Leavitt_Maine.jpg and File:John_Calvin_Stevens_Leavitt_home.jpg. I promise this will be the last of them! lol. Thanks again for all your help. Much appreciated! MarmadukePercy (talk) 23:41, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again. I downloaded one (hopefully) last one. :-) It's File:Gilman High School baseball team 1922.jpg. Thanks again and enjoy your weekend! MarmadukePercy (talk) 15:55, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop deleting

[edit]

I have to update the images for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Francis

You keep deleting the updated images. They are not vandalism! They are simply updated images.

If I do not get them updated I loose my job. Please let me know how we can get this fixed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mantrafilms (talk • contribs) 19:44, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, first of all images you uploaded are not "simply updated images" as you say. What I see here is Joe Francis photos takes from the web without any proof of permission from the author or copyright holder.
  • File:JoeFrancis MainWiki.jpg you were asked to provide source where did you get it, but in 14 days you did nothing to provide this information and solve issue. Ok now with your sockpuppet you marked it as taken from [8], but on the website is no indication that any of the photos are available under any of "free" licenses. If you have permission from Joe Francis or his representative to upload and license image please send this information to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. If you dont, ask person who may legally issue such permission to sent information to the above email, best of all from the address registered at the http://www.meetjoefrancis.com domain name.
  • File:Joe francis 158 shirtless.jpg is even more interesting. All copyrights to this photo belongs to PRNewsFoto agency and Law Offices of Cyrus and Cyrus, again please sent permission to the email mentioned above, best of all from official email.--Justass (talk) 20:07, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Thanks that actually helps tons. Once the email is sent should I upload or wait to get a response? I don't want to get perma banned.
I cant view OTRS (emails with permissions), it will be proceeded by one of the OTRS volunteer, but it may take up to 3-4 weeks. So once you have done so, post your request for more speedy review to Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard, explain situation and ask for undeletion of files you uploaded. They are not completely deleted, just "hidden" from public. Again want to remind you that best to send mails from official email address so it can be easily verified and also include links to deleted files [9] and [10] --Justass (talk) 22:41, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. It will come from www.meetjoefrancis.com thanks again!

Understand. But as it appears on Flickr available to be sent? Christian Hartmann (talk) 21:35, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Flickr user who uploaded this image most likely (99.99%) is not the author nor copyright holder of the photo. Thus by issuing CC-BY license he commit copyright fraud. Also please look at others images from the same user [11], looks like he just copy/paste photos of celebrities he like without any understanding of licensing issue --Justass (talk) 21:42, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks for your help. Christian msg 21:47, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A Time for Burning

[edit]

You removed my image...but provided very little constructive criticism. What is the proper way to utilize a DVD and/or CD image art for informational/educational purposes...could I use Non-free use rationale? Warrenfish (talk) 00:38, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Very simple answer - Commons doesn't accept non-free content. If wikipedia you are trying to edit accept such content (like english wiki) upload images locally Wikipedia:Non-free content. --Justass (talk) 00:42, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Different images, duplicate

[edit]

Hey there, diff i actually made both, the first(the old one) is a very low quality image of the new one. Are you sure we need it? The new one has more data and is of a better quality.Megistias (talk) 18:48, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I see no harm to have both and let final user / editor to choose what map he wants to use. Maybe it would be better just to add a notice on the old one and encourage to use newer one. --Justass (talk) 18:56, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to know how boot a picture of a movie so that it is Brazilian pro wikipedia.

Check if your local Wikipedia accepts "Fair use" content [12], Commons dont, under any circumstances. --Justass (talk) 19:34, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I really don't understand why you bother about this very poor file: it is a cropping of one of MY photos, which was very badly done (97 kB???). It has absolutly NO quality, regarding the new one of Jastrow, and is TOTALLY the same cropping in fact. It is badly named furthermore. We often overwrite our files with Jastrow when we get a better version of one object. That's what I want to do here.

Don't you want to improve Commons?--I do. So please, delete this image. Bibi Saint-Pol (sprechen) 20:11, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I really believe that it's up to user to choose images. But if you absolutely need this image removed please fill deletion request --Justass (talk) 20:23, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Being able to choose is interesting when it makes sense. Choosing a bad quality image makes no sense. Bibi Saint-Pol (sprechen) 10:50, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

RE photo of Cindy Fornelli, I am new to uploading photos into Wikipedia. It was for a Cindy fornelli wikipedia entry that I was told would be deleted so I don't need the image for her page. I also think i uploaded it into the wrong place, or I don't have enough access to upload in the right place. Still figuring these things out but until I know how to create a page for Cindy I don't need the photo in wikipedia.

Hello, gallery Sofia Areal was deleted because it was simple wiki style article without any images. Galleries are intended to demonstrate best pictures from particular category or finest images on subject. Please read Commons:Galleries and vie any gallery to see what it is about, for example 福山市 --Justass (talk) 00:29, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, am french so sorry for my english;

You had deleted pictures then i put on the article "Pyramide BattleStar Galactica". It's certainly because they doesn't respect the free-license, but how can i put this picture on wikipedia ? There is No way ? Even do a external link ?

Thanks for your explain.

Hello, screenshots from Battlestar Galactica tv series you were uploading to illustrate your article are fully copyrighted by director/produser/SF channel. Commons accept only media licensed freely and with written permission from copyright holder. Even if you are physical owner of DVD with movie you cant distribute screenshots.
French Wikipedia allow very limited use of non free content so I dont see way to illustrate your article, sorry --Justass (talk) 12:50, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicated field

[edit]

Thank You very much for all your work. I have a little remark: when you are creating a description of a derivated work, take care that the "Information" template cannot include two fields with identical names. Date of taken of the original photos and date of creation of the derivated work need to be merged into one "date" field. (see here for a bad example) --ŠJů (talk) 07:47, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Overlooked that one --Justass (talk) 09:31, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Strange filename

[edit]

Hi Justass, I know you are very good in finding images. Do you have any idea where files with filenames like File:18855 238520900874 238172540874 3336490 5462435 n.jpg come from? The typical is some groups of numbers ans an n at the end. There is a growing number of uploads with this filenam and they are almost always copyright violations or very fishy. --Martin H. (talk) 14:41, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to intrude, but I think I have the answer: it comes from facebook: http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs261.ash1/18855_238520900874_238172540874_3336490_5462435_n.jpg. –Tryphon 15:13, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh great, that explains many issues. New location to search, thanks again. Hope it follws the shema:
Filename: <no5>_<no12>_<ID>_<PID>_<no7>_n.jpg --> .com/photo.php?pid=<PID>&id=<ID>, given ID and PID looks like you can very easy reconstruct the source. --Martin H. (talk) 00:12, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Damn, it works! Victory is ours, take a look at File:13357 239936871456 133760651456 4101806 2704157 n.jpg. --Martin H. (talk) 00:23, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
But sometimes images are already deleted from FB and are taken from some 3'rd party websites like File:11169 1242233331999 1114305955 30774123 2434166 n.jpg, besides I have checked some recently deleted images with such pattern and some are marked as copyvio because were taken from some freaking blogs and so on, so looks like they are spreading quite quickly --Justass (talk) 00:33, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously facebook would have a big privacy problem if every image is visible through the web using this simple url. So maybe 1114305955 30774123 is not deleted but a privacy/permission issue. However, any own work claim on such images is likely wrong, someone who is the photographer would not have a need to download his own image from facebook. --Martin H. (talk) 00:58, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

domicharmed..........sorry but I'm new on wikipedia.....Can you help me on about these photo????

Read welcome message in your talk page it will explain a lot, but in short - do not upload not your own pictures without permission --Justass (talk) 23:29, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I have just uploaded that file, but I am wondering whether it measure up all Wikicommons conditions. I would like to upload more my own photos of pictures like that. Is it ok with Wikicommons rules? DaKa 2 (talk)

Hello, sadly but no. You made a photo of postcard/image that is still copyrighted by the original author. By making such shot you are making derivative of copyrighted media and cant claim own rights over it, thus you cant issue a license and upload it to Commons. Please read more at Derivative. The only good scenario in this case would be if postcard you are photographing is in Public Domain due to it's age, but 1998 will be PD only after 60 years --Justass (talk) 09:05, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the deletion notifications, but...

[edit]

Today I visited Commons because the image deletion triggered an update to the Chris Bell article in my Wikipedia watchlist. In the current case, it didn't matter that I was too late—I'd in fact already commented right after the nominator's opening comment—but the reality is, your helpful notifications went completely unnoticed. This seems a shame! I'd imagine I'm not atypical in only visiting Commons very infrequently. Do you happen to know a way that I or anyone else can change anything to bridge this gap? PL290 (talk) 18:13, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, first of all it was mistake of nominator who issued deletion request and didn't post notification on your talk page and I am sorry it was too late. In future you should enable email notification when someone changes your talk page Preferences ->User Profile -> check "E-mail me when my user talk page is changed" --Justass (talk) 18:33, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes. Thank you. But I see I already have that checked. So perhaps it doesn't always work. Anyway, thanks again. PL290 (talk) 21:38, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bonnie Bailey

[edit]

I have no clue what I'm doing, Just trying to build a Wikipedia Page (which Is killing to figure out) for my Friend Bonnie Bailey. The file keeps getting Deleted I guess because of copy-write issue, But it's the picture she gave me to use? Am I filling the form out wrong or something? TravisMeck (talk) 21:09, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, picture you uploaded is present at Bonnie Bailey's Myspace [13] so presumably she is copyright holder of this image and only she can issue the free license. Please visit Email template fill link to deleted file[14] and license and ask Bonnie to send it to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Another way to confirm the permission would be just to add text next to the image on MySpace, something like "I, copyright holder of this picture, allow usage to anyone, anytime, for any purpose" of course written from Bonnie Bailey's account --Justass (talk) 21:19, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain why you think I am vandalizing. I have been constructively participating in this community for many years. Why do you say I am vandalizing? Yours, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daderot (talk • contribs) 00:42, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you have any problem with File:Missouri Botanical Garden - Climatron with artworks by Dale Chihuly.JPG ask for undeletion at COM:UNDEL. @Justass, thanks for reverting the vandalist edits. --Túrelio (talk) 08:44, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies - I was angry and quite wrong, and your decision to block me for two hours was reasonable and appropriate. On reflection, my main objection was that there appeared to be no way to discuss or appeal Túrelio's unilateral decision. I would suggest that the "deleted" message should contain information about both options, since they do seem to exist. (It mentioned the image's discussion page, but that page had been deleted with the image.) Yours, Daderot (talk) 11:47, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, thank you for understanding. Please take a look at COM:AN#Freedom_of_panorama_and_deletion_of_images and associated deletion request, there are an opposite side demanding deletion on sight --Justass (talk) 12:08, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Correção de fontes

[edit]

Hello friend!

I appreciate the concern for preserving the quality of images on the media. As requested, I made the correction of the sources of images of Sport Club of Recife, which were previously defined with the name of the club. Really noticed it was a mistake to be corrected, and urgently, I did.

I have remedied the problem.

Much Better Image of Same Solar Panels on House

[edit]

Hey, I uploaded a much better image of my solar panels for my house. It is higher resolution image with better lighting and in general higher quality. Same house, same panels.

Old: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Solar_panels_on_house_roof.jpg New: http://256.com/solar/images/solar_house.shtml

This seems to be fair use of the replacement.

Yes it is better, bigger and more suitable for use, and thank you for your photo but please upload it under different name. Images are different and it's no problem to have more than one of same house, besides we have to honor first uploader who shared his image and let individual wikipedia editor to choose what image to include in to the article --Justass (talk) 01:38, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am the original uploader of course -- it's my house. How about I rename the original to Winter View and replace it with the new image? It seems a shame to go to the 30 wiki pages that are using the less good image and update them all to use a different path instead of just upgrading the image. --E090 (talk) 01:43, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops. I'm not the origian uploader. How if I have him/her do it? --E090 (talk) 01:45, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You uploaded this file to english wikipedia and it was moved to Commons by other user. I have moved previous image to File:Solar panels on house roof winter view.jpg and uploaded new instead of old one to File:Solar panels on house roof.jpg. Please check if everything is all right --Justass (talk) 01:54, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Much better. All looks good. Thanks. --E090 (talk) 03:05, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have specific permission from the author to use the picture from his Flickr page, is there a way to use it or does he have to change the copyright on the image first?

Hello, please ask Joseph Bayot to change image license to acceptable one. If he dont want to do this you can ask him to write Flickr mail to Flickr user isterik32 (me) with the text somthing like that "I, copyright holder of this image allow usage of [16] to anyone, at anytime, for any purpose and release this image under CC-BY-2.0 or CC-BY-SA-2.0". --Justass (talk) 00:23, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks for the help, I'll see which one he would prefer to do.

Hey Justas, the copyright on [17] has now been changed. Can you remove the deletion? or do I need to upload it again?

Hello, image you uploaded is copyrighted by photographer and is uploaded to English wikipedia under terms of Fair use, Commons dont allow such license methods, same as Polish wikipedia. The only way to upload and freely license this image would be if there is any evidences that author of image have died more than 70 years ago or he never disclosed his identity. But to do this you have to find out who is the author or any additional information about this picture --Justass (talk) 09:33, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I noticed that you put a cpoyright violation for that image. Could you explain why because this image is simply a croped version of a public domain image. Thanks--Trex (talk) 12:16, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!

Hello, Commons allow only images that are licensed under Creative Commons Atribution or Creative Commons Atribution Share-Alike, all iages you uploaded were marked as "All right reserver". Incomplete deletion requests

Since recently, the "Nominate for deletion" menu button leads to incomplete deletion requests. After adaptation of settings it works, but then it stops again. I haven't found yet the reason. Excuse me, why have excluded three photos of Barroso II Commission that where submitted under a regime of public domaine?--Miguel Bravo-Ferrer (talk) 22:24, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, because European Commission website and all photos in it are released under non commercial and non derivative restrictions. And obviously European Commission photos are not work of the United States government as you stated in the license field--Justass (talk) 22:32, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for showing me the use of the EC photos, I'll take care in the future. I state the reference to the US government because there was no one referred to the EU webs in the site; you'd maybe remove this. Thanks--Miguel Bravo-Ferrer (talk) 22:47, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There is no EU license template because content from EU website is not acceptable by Commons , here all media can be used by anyone for any purpose and current EU restrictions dont allow this--Justass (talk) 22:51, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your speedy answer; however, and knowing the regulation in the matter since I work in the Commission, I didn't know Wikipedia had commercial nor economic purposes. Otherwise, I'd like those photos to be thrown back to its place. Regarding the reference to a US gov source, I obviously realise this is not the origin of the proposed documents, but I marked out this because there is any reference to an EU official source in the besought cast, and it was in fact the only public domaine referred. Probably it was a mistake for my part, but I don't think this to be enough to exclude and remove an image. If there is nothing else wrong in the photo, could you please put it back? Thanks very much for your attention.--Miguel Bravo-Ferrer (talk) 23:11, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia dont have commercial puprose, but Commons is repository of freely licensed images that can be used by anyone, anytime, in any context, for any purpose including commercial one. Please read Licensing policy. And because EU website dont allow commercial usage "In no case may this material be sold or rented." and derivatives "may not be edited and must be shown in its entirety." Commons dont accept any media from http://eu.europa.eu. [edit]

Hello - I'm simply attempting to change the image used, please give my account permission so I can change the image when ever I need to. This is for the artist who the Wiki page is based on! So whenever they want it changed, they should be able to have it done!

Let me know when you have made the changes, so I can then re-enable the picture to be used or feel free to do it for me! It can be made a pubic domain image, if that's whats needed, I just want the image to be displayed across all the various Wiki's as the previous one was not one the artist authorized.

Hi. Can you help me with that image? I just need to change «8 meses (día polar)» to «Día polar o verano polar (6 meses)» and «Noche polar (para 6 meses)» to «Noche polar o invierno polar (6 meses)». I don't know which's the problem now. It's the very first time I got a "corrupt file" warning. Greetings. --r@ge (talk) 22:24, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, a week ago you were asked to provide source to the file File:AV 8B+ HarrierII.jpg - who is the author, URL to website, where did you took it or any other available information. As you did nothing to provide such information file was deleted as well as your re-upload. Now you uploaded new file File:Paracaidista colgado del campanario.jpg, same questions again, who is the author, address to website or any other information. If you are the author please upload full resolution image. Thank you --Justass (talk) 23:33, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pero si la foto la tomé yo no puedo poner ninguna página web. Por favor, ¿podrías ponerme un ejemplo? Gracias.

Hello, in short - you can't. English Wikipedia allow copyrighted content under Fair use doctrine, not Commons nor Spanish wiki doesn't allow Commons:Fair use. You have to have written permission from the authors, and obviously album covers are always copyrighted --Justass (talk) 15:51, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I would like to understand why this page has been classified as promotional (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Magdalena_Korbal) - that is only current information of this polish photomodel. There many polish models pages/profiles with exact the same information on wiki. Magdalena Korbal model wiki page was actually created based on examplaes from other wiki polish models pages.

Please explain what exactly is wrong - I would consider to either change it or remove but rejecting rights to add that information on wiki is at least very dissapoining.

Please see at least recent publication of this polish model from November 2009 - CKM magazine pictorial

Misunderstanding - AKODOS

[edit]

Hello Justass, well let's me present the situation : You've just deleted my picture "AKODOSaffiche1mini.jpg" for a copyrighting issu but in fact this is the cover of the saber-production's new Movie and as the film director and owner of the association I absolutly own all the rights about this picture and more precisely the right to publish it online.

I would realy need this picture to illustrate the wikipedia article about our movie Akodos : I'm sure this is just a misunderstanding and I would realy like you to reconsider the decision of deleting this very usefull piece of picture.

I hope you understand well the situation and I count on your cooperation to solve this problem quikly. I stay in touch for any pieces of information you would like to know.

Deletion of File:Named variables in Excel

[edit]

I am unclear why this image should be considered a copyright violation. It depicts a spreadsheet developed by myself, it is arranged and labeled by myself, with an insert of my construction. Illustrations of the use of the Excel spreadsheet in this fashion is common practice: look at the thousands of help manuals written by authors of all origins for similar shots. An example is Bullen, Bovey & Green. No permission or attribution to Microsoft is found in any of these books for use of such diagrams. Brews ohare (talk) 18:21, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Justass,

Everything on Forvo.com is under the creative commons by-nc-sa. http://www.forvo.com/license/ . Does the screenshot of the creative commons copyrighted content violate copyright?

Hello, I have checked Forvo's license page [26] as you pointed out content is licensed under "non commercial" restriction. Please see [[|COM:L|COM:Licensing]], but all media here must be usable by anyone, anytime, for any purpose, including commercial one. Thus any restrictions as "non commercial" or "no derivatives" are forbidden. [edit]

Hello Justass,

I´m verry sorry for disobeying the copyrights of these three files. Is it not possible to upload pictures without copyrigts, if you name the creator? Or is it possible to upload those files if I ask the creator for permission?

Thank You for Your help.

Hello, in general every image on the internet is copyrighted, with the exceptions ruled by law or by explicit permission from the author(s). So answering to your question - no you cant upload image to Commons and just name the author, you have to have permission from him to release his work under any acceptable "free" license -Justass (talk) 15:06, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Commons allow only screens of program what are licensed under "free" license. SPSS program is fully copyrighted by IBM, you can't claim "own work" over the screenshot of the program just because you did a shot of it. Please see Commons:Screenshots. If you need to use those images for you article please check does Wikipedia you are trying to edit allow fair use content, you may be able to upload screenshots of copyrighted software locally, not to Commons --Justass (talk) 20:12, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pärnu airport terminal 20080610.jpg

[edit]

Hei! What do you mean by artistic creativity here when interpreting COM:FOP#Estonia. It is a reproduction of a building, whose architect didn't die more than 70 years ago. Pikne 20:41, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello, by artistic creativity I meant that photo of Pärnu airport terminal simply dont have such. Building has to have at least some artistic works, any "unique" elements that can be copyrighted. In other words architect cant claim it's rights over too simple buildings, lets say File:Tallinn_Veerenni2.jpg or File:Europe-Estonia-Tallinn-Tallinn University.JPG or File:Hotel Shnelli, Tallinn.jpg all are in Tallinn and are covered by the same copyright law, but again they are too simple --Justass (talk) 20:53, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I believe there is no way to consider architect's work too simple – unless the building is made of 4 plates as walls and that's it or something similar. Anyways, I consider it's safe to delete local file then, as this here will not get deleted. Pikne 06:10, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
Please consider opening regular deletion request in case if you still think this image violates no FOP of Estonia so that other users could voice opinions. Or I can do this if you insist --Justass (talk) 08:20, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Justass

[edit]

Sorry if i be mistake in took one picture, that not get the permission for might publicated in wikipedia. I don´t know nothing of laws or things that have relation with the copyrigths laws.In my country or in another countrys. Only have one way to mean when i use one picture that is not mine. I want sell, or do bussines whit it?. Like the answer ever is NO. Then i use this image ever with respect for the origin from and i take it for use in works that respect there, the persons or the locations are in it. Respect always. Lucration, bussines, shell, or money for it, Never. It is my way of look. Then in the case of the wikipedia, i look this theme in the same manner. It´s one proyect for the lucration or the information diffusion?. Because so the articles are one expresion that explained one notion, person, or creatión. The images are one service that serve not only at the person that use the wikipedia. Serve also at the autor of the image, because then he /they receibe one acknowlegement for his work. In the case of Huckleberry picture, is one image that runs free in the web and are one destination for the childs painters. I take this image and coloured. Sorry for my poor inglish, I´m from Spain, and only read and write from six months. And thanks for your advice. --FrankRost (talk) 15:00, 14 April 2010 (UTC).[reply]

Photo Deletion?

[edit]

The photos that were posted do have Share Alike Wiki Commons License so why do you keep flagging them?

Because they were larked as Non commercial, further more I really don't believe you made a single shot from Flickr photos you uploaded to your Flickr account, so please upload them in full resolution or follow COM:OTRS procedure and send permission from CelesteThorson.com. Thank you --Justass (talk) 14:40, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am the webmaster for Ms. Thorson and all of the images do in fact belong to her, all of the photos on the official FLICKR account were are taken of her with ownership, copyright, and license to share and redistribute. Assuming they would not be is just ignorant when the only ones uploaded to wiki are public Domain taken on public streets. There will be no uploads of full resolution images, only low-res so you're demands are unreasonable. You have created unnecessary complications due to your ignorance, perhaps you should find better use for your researching abilities rather than making impulsive assumptions. I have notice from your previous errors you have a tendency to jump the gun and that is most frustrating. What you believe or don't believe is obviously aligned with your selective comprehension instead of actual reality. Obviously now that you have sabotaged the honest upload of these images I will have to charge Ms. Thorson extra for the time it will take to send permission from her official website. So people will indeed pay for your error, I hope you think twice next time before making erroneous accusations.

I am operating with the facts present at the moment, and when I see you uploading low resolution images obviously made not by you and claiming authorship or representation of Ms. Thorson without evidences of such I ask you to present permission --Justass (talk) 15:03, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You literally have no idea what you are talking about, enjoy monitoring the halls of wiki, next time research your "evidence" before jumping to conclusions. The fact of the matter is you are WRONG and your incorrect assumptions have created more unnecessary work for my team. Permissions will be sent but, jumping through these extra hoops is ludicrous. Skepticism is only healthy when you can acknowledge the truth.

I fully agree with Justass. There is no evidence that this "official flickr stream" has the right to release press photographs. Only the copyright holder can grant the free license, the transfer of copyright requires the written form. If this are photographs provided by other photographers as a courtesy to the subject, then the subject is neither the author nor the copyright holder but just in the possession of a copy of the photo that she can use for personal purposes - but not grant others the reuse for commercial purposes as done with the CC licensing. So this requires evidence of written permission who the photographer is and in what circumstances the copyright transfer took place. The author information at File:CelestThorson-redcarpetc.jpg is obviously nonsense. --Martin H. (talk) 15:31, 17 April 2010 (UTC) p.s.: for the record: I was about to tag the images myself as missing correct source information, thats why im intruding this discussion. --Martin H. (talk) 15:33, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Our apologies, the team member that was writing these comments was not the actual webmaster and has been pulled from the project. We will review your guidelines and resubmit when appropriate. Thank you for your help.

Can you advise please?

What has to be done in the licensing section or source line in order to remove the "no source" template"?

Hello, I have removed "no source" tag from the image. But is this photo made by User:Morine, because at the original upload form she pointed that author is "ne"? and it wasn't unclear that does it mean? --Justass (talk) 13:06, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That was supposed to be "me" :) --Deinocheirus (talk) 01:07, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Did you deleted sam_dillemans.jpg? The picture is made by the writer of the article, and personally approved by the artist to be used for wikipedia. The painting is made in 2007 and is an interpretation of a selfportrait of Ingres. It is conform the conditions of wikipedia. If you want to delete a picture please discuss this first on a discussion page.Hdboeck (talk) 20:00, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, yes I deleted File:Sam dillemans.jpg because there were no evidences whatsoever that Sam Dillemans who is author and copyright holder of this work released it under any "free" license. Please note that same applies to the recreated image File:Sam2.jpg. If you have permission or represent Sam Dillemans please fill email template and send it to the permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Please read about verification process at Commons:OTRS. Thank you --Justass (talk) 13:11, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It depends on the program(s) you use, for my it's just right click ->properties in the Eye of GNOME. If you use Windows try Properties in the Windows Explorer or any graphic editor. If it works you will see a lot of information and field XPComments with the licensing terms --Justass (talk) 21:37, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

You are correct, I didn't add any licensing information about the image. This is strange, because I thought it was a requirement for uploading and I just expected I would be asked for that before the upload was complete. Did the process change recently? In any case, I happen to work with Reynolds American, Inc. (see my disclosure on my WP user page) and the image has been released under CC-BY-SA (see here). I'll fix this now. --Piedmont NC (talk) 01:04, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, now I am more confused. I cannot see where to find those templates. I had thought these were automatically presented to the editor by Commons. Can you help? --Piedmont NC (talk) 01:08, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, maybe for upload you used basic upload form [28] where all information including license templates are optional and can be entered later. Anyway now you have to edit image description manually by entering license template and additional information. For the license I presume you could use {{CC-BY-SA-3.0}} template, and please enter additional information, who is the author, date, source --Justass (talk) 02:12, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
All right, thanks for the help. It is now late on the East Coast of the United States, where I live, so I will add all of this information in the morning. Thanks again. --Piedmont NC (talk) 03:07, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, I am fairly certain I have now added what is necessary, but if I am missing anything, please contact me on my user page. Piedmont NC (talk) 14:20, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Justass. Regarding this image, the link I provided said that the image is permitted to be used in any commercial way, provided that attribution is given to them. Hence I wonder why the contrary. Did I make any mistake? -- Legolas from Mirkwood 11:22, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, http://advertising.gawker.com/legal/ in the permission field states that content is distributed under Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial license, not Creative Commons Attribution. Non commercial restriction is incompatible with the licensing policy because all content must be usable for any purpose including commercial one --Justass (talk) 11:31, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Justass. I apologize for the inconvenience. I just have one question. So if the owner or the website notifies that the image is under Creative Commons Attribution or Creative Commons Attribution Sharealike then is it ok to upload the image with attribution to them? -- Legolas from Mirkwood 03:07, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

When you reverted my edit here, you gave no reason in the edit summary. I have since spotted the permission, but it would have been more helpful if you had given a reason for the revert. --JD554 (talk) 06:57, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there -

I do some work with David Lauren, as he’s a client of my employer. In order to find an image that was appropriate for upload onto Wikipedia, I asked him to take a picture of himself with a digital camera that we could upload onto Flickr, set the Creative Commons rights for, and then eventually upload to the Commons and Wikipedia. I was under the impression I had followed the correct steps, but I believe you deleted the image I tried to upload. I want to upload this successfully; what can I do to ensure that everything is uploaded correctly? Was there anything I missed?

Let me know. Thanks for your help, Rlbnano (talk) 20:49, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for providing the source, but there is one big problem with the images you used. All of them are copyrighted by the authors (you can see this at the right side on Flickr page and bottom notices on BBC or London Evening Standard pages) Commons accept only images that are released under "free" license by the authors not just copy/pasted from any website. Date of taken the photo

[edit]

Thank You very much for panoramized files you created. I have a little remark: when you are creating a description of a derivated work from a photo, take care that the date of taken of the original photo shouldn't be omitted. It's a very relevant information. And the date of retouching shouldn't be confused with the date of taken. --ŠJů (talk) 11:40, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Comments at RfA

[edit]

Hi Justass, I am just letting you know that I have responded to your comments at my RfA. Please understand that I have zero desire to see Commons as a battleground, so I understand your reservations. In my response I believe I have demonstrated what collaboration is about. As I noted at the RfA, I am not getting into details on anything on English WP unless it involves Commons in some way, mainly to prevent any importation of any disputes from elsewhere to this project; for the project does not need it, and neither do I. I know you may not change your mind, and am not posting here in order to try to do so, but do know that I understand and hear your concerns. Cheers, --russavia (talk) 23:56, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thank you for letting me know, wasn't precisely monitoring that page. Good luck on your adminship. --Justass (talk) 00:35, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hope you'll stay on

[edit]

Hello, Just noticed some comments about your possible departure from Commons. I hope that's not happening, as you have been most helpful to me, and a real asset to the project, in my estimation. Regards, MarmadukePercy (talk) 00:06, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thanks for your concern, actually I left the project but ultimately returned and everything is in the past :) Dont want to go into the details but Commons_talk:Sexual_content/Village_pump/2010-5-7 may give some information about events last weekend--Justass (talk) 00:35, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Graphic lab

[edit]

First of all I have to say that you're doing some impressive work at the commons:Graphic_Lab/Photography_workshop. I only ask you that whenever you see a request you want to work on, please mark it as "taken" using the {{I take|name}} tag. This way we can avoid more than one graphist working on the same request. Best regards, PawełMM (talk) 16:58, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I noticed this image as it was uploaded and start working on it before request was posted at the Lab. And only after I was ready to upload I noticed request and that it was already taken, sorry --Justass (talk) 17:03, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Image violation

[edit]

Hi Justass,

thanks you for your comments. I am new to Wikipedia so find the whole process of uploading articles very very confusing. I spent hours on my first ever article only to have it deleted and then I see your note saying the image has been deleted that I uploaded.

Oh dear. It was an image that I took myself of my wife and yes, she is a singer so that image would indeed be on my space as well as other sites.

I will first speak to the admin who deleted my page before trying to combat this also.

What a headache but thanks for your time anyway,

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Gordon Hulbert

article and commons section

[edit]

Mmm.. confusing.

Could you please advise me where I do upload Wikipedia style articles. Sorry but I am a complete novice and thought you had to upload to commons first?

Also, a question. an article that was very similiar to mine.. which was about a certain collective of session musicians, was accepted on Wikipedia and has it's own page and yet mine was deleted? I'm very confused by this as my article had a wealth of information and trivia. Why would one article be accepted in the session musicians of the United Kingdom section and mine be deleted within 5 minutes of posting?

Hope you can assist me.

Much appreciated

I see you already got help, feel free to ask if there is anything else --Justass (talk) 17:55, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry to say, but this (see "Mozilla Marks and Merchandise" about non commercial use and "Linking" for non derivated notices) are just against this policies on Commons about mandatory commercial permission and mandatory allow of derivative works of all material posted in the project. I'm marking for speedy deletion once again, and if reverted, I'll marking it for a normal deletion procedure for voting and see others opinions. Cheers. --Linfocito B ~ Greetings from Colombia. 22:36, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Even when Commons is an educational project, and that Firefox web browser is published under free licences, "Mozilla Firefox" is a trademark and it is copyrighted, so this logo is sadly not allowed on Commons. See original licence tags in english Wikipedia en:File:Firefox_3.5_logo.png, as the only way to allow it's upload is on fair use. I'm marking the file with a normal procedure of "nominate for deletion". Cheers. --Linfocito B ~ Greetings from Colombia. 22:46, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I have a question that you may be able to help me with. If someone takes my CC-BY-SA-3.0 licensed image and remixes it, whose name should they put into the author box when they upload the image they have created/remixed from my image?

Do they add their name as the author of the remixed image then attribute me in the description section? MH1987 (talk) 22:22, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes always, "attribution" requirement is exactly for this, Share-alike - that any derivatives (works based on original) must be licensed under the same license --Justass (talk) 22:25, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's great. Thanks for your quick reply. MH1987 (talk) 22:31, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, as Justass correctly said: we wait 7 days. But please ask for written permission before uploading ;) --Martin H. (talk) 14:09, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your revert

[edit]

Please explain this! Would be nice if you would comment on the discussion page there. SergeWoodzing (talk) 13:49, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Uploading absolutely different image over another one just because it is same person is simply bad practice. But because I couldn't find any wiki references to Christoffer Wiklund or web references at large it can be counted and personal unused image and was redirected per request --Justass (talk) 14:35, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Now both images have been nominated for deletion by a user who has been stalking Southerly Clubs for years. He used your wording here to motivate this dirsuptive behavior (for which he has been blocked before). The image person, as Mr Sweden, was considered notable by the same person at the start (before imagined political differences started the bruhaha) but now is to be deleted as a "personal photo"? I am totally amazed. Please help! SergeWoodzing (talk
Best way to avoid deletion would be create an article on any language Wikipedia about Christoffer Wiklund and put the image in it. From what I see on simple Google search for Christoffer Wiklund it links mainly to the social network sites and it's hard for me to judge how notable this person is/was. --Justass (talk) 15:14, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is not for you alone to judge this quickly without discussion. The article is being prepared. You have speed-deleted the original file without discussion and thus prevented us from deciding through consensus whether or not this person is notable enough to have his portrait remain on Commons where it has been för a long time. Please repair this overweening behavior, or I will have to report you for misuse of your adminstrative tools! Cordially, SergeWoodzing (talk) 15:16, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Now I am shocked, it was you who replaced the image to hide another, it was you who requested to delete the image by stating "Do we absolutely have to initiate a deletion request here...". And now I "misused" admin tool by fulfilling your request? --Justass (talk) 15:25, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Let's start over and both be nice. Sorry. Out of respect, I wanted the old photo of Wiklund removed, the one he didn't like, but did not want the new one deleted. The history of that page was of value, I felt. I didn't want to hide anything. I thought that was clear. Sorry if not. Perhaps one version is enough, i.e. the cropped one. I just do not understand why you didn't communicate with me, and I think it is a shame that your action, apparently in the best of faith, has led to the stalker's deletion request here, which I know is not in good faith. SergeWoodzing (talk) 21:50, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry if I misunderstood your request and intentions regarding File:Christoffer_Wiklund.JPG. All my actions was to simplify presumably long taking deletion request and redirect "old" image to almost identical newly uploaded one as I though this was the matter of the thing. Image and all history is restored, good luck with the article. --Justass (talk) 07:59, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You are very kind and helpful. Thank you! SergeWoodzing (talk) 10:23, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Justass, as I said in the copyviol request, the image is not a reprint of an original of the XV century (since the original card are lost) but a recent fanciful reconstruction from Dal Negro (an Italian company). It can't be hosted here. --F l a n k e r (talk) 23:35, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I was misguided by the description on source page where it says "reprint of original from after 1450". but after googling around multiply sources confirms[37],[38],[39] that Devil and Tower cards was never found or even existed and are made recently. Deleted as copyvio --Justass (talk) 08:09, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File: Miranda Bodenhöfer

[edit]

Hello. I think it was a wrong move to mark this picture to be deleted for copyright infringement. That picture was mine, (as I specified in the file properties), and reduced in size to be hosted here. I can't understand then why you mark it to be deleted. Furthermore, you could have given some time, for the picture to be evaluated, as you did with "Miranda Bodenhofer" (w/o the "¨"), which I replaced in the article with. Let me tell you that, at least in the Spanish section, these attitudes (deleting something inmediately without asking the author) are taken as aggressive and not constructive. Lautaro Tessi (talk) 13:40, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

At least in Commons, same as in the rest of the world, "own work" claims over the images you didn't make or have rights to upload is called copyright violation and are equal to simple steeling. File:Miranda_Bodenhofer.jpg is cropped image from Reuters[40] news agency --Justass (talk) 20:12, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I understand your point, but I have the ORIGINAL image in 10Mpx, sth you'll probably won't find at any site. Furthermore, it isn't cropped, just resized. If it's necessary to upload it in the original size for it not to be tagged as a copyright infringement, I'll do it, but I think 10Mpx is too excessive to an image that doesn't need such a resolution (as could need a satelital image). Again, next time, tag it as a possible copyright infringement to give time to give explanations. Thank you for your answer. Lautaro Tessi (talk) 16:25, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
EDIT! Oh! I understand everything now. It was a misunderstanding. Check this out. As I said at the beginning of this section, there were TWO files: The first one (Miranda Bodenhofer.jpg), which I admitted it was supposed to be replaced (see the comment I left in the Discussion page), and a second one (Miranda Bodenhöfer.jpg, again, pay attention to the "¨"), which was a new one, originally in 10Mpx. You probably thought the second one was the same as the first one. Said that, I ask you: what to do now? I'm rather newbie at this... Lautaro Tessi (talk) 16:36, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

[edit]

Hello,You deleted some of the image that I uploaded which I have given permission to the owner of the image. Some of the images owner are the member of the timawa.net(which I am also a member) and not the skyscrapercity or any other sites. Before I upload the image I always ask the owner first.

Hello, all your images were marked as "own work" but examining them closer shows this is simply not the truth. There is not a single full resolution photo, images are made with dozen of different cameras. And now you say you had a permission from somewhere else. If you are the author or have permission please upload images in full resolution with EXIF data, indicating sources, authors and permission from them. Same applies to all images marked as "no source". Thank you --Justass (talk) 06:40, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Heres the link - http://www.timawa.net/forum/index.php?action=pm;f=inbox;start=0 proven that I have permission to use their images,.. while some of the picture you deleted are from my reletives from air force and marines such as File:KIA KM-450.jpg,File:Afpdayguntruck.jpg,File:Afpday ghq 0131.jpg.

Link you provided is your private forum account inbox, I cant see it. Please forward any evidences of permission to COM:OTRS. Thank you --Justass (talk) 08:48, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Im sorry for the bad link. Ok, because you can not read the link that I provided.. It seems that I am require to do that OTRS stuff.. Im not much aware of this OTRS but I will comply to this requirement. Thanks

Compliance

[edit]

Hello Justass, I have followed your instructions about the OTRS. I asked permission to the owner about the image and the owner replied to me via e-mail with OTRS template on it and gave me a permission to use their image. Now, how will I use it?? The owner that I have given the message is the one who have the image of File:Afpday gun truck.jpg, File:Afpday ghq 0131.jpg which you had been deleted and also thank goodness he owned the one that you miss - File:Afpday ghq.jpg.. Please help to bring back the two image that you removed and I will put OTRS pending with PermissionOTRS.

Apparently, the other owner of the image have not yet send their reply. I will inform you once they send me an email. Thanks

Restored, please add OTRS number you received to it. Thank you --Justass (talk) 13:10, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Justass!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:Pushkinskaya_metrostation_edited.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

How I Met Your Mother - Big Days Image

[edit]

Hi,

I thought I went through all the right steps to upload this image, I was uploading to feature as an image on the episodes wikipedia page. What have I done wrong and how do I need to do this in the future, I'm relatively new to this :D.

Thanks.

BohemianAle

Hello, image you uploaded is screenshot from TV series "How I Met Your Mother", all copyrights to this image as well as any other screenshot from the series belongs to producer(s) or publishing company.
Wikia.com doesn't have any rights to it and if you loot at the licensing box at image description [41], you will see that image is used under Fair use rationale (non-profit, educational purposes). Commons allow only freely licensed images that can be used by anyone, anytime, for any purpose including commercial one and it doesn't allow Fair use content.
Still, if you need to illustrate English wikipedia article (or any other wikipedia that allows Fair use), you can do this by uploading copyrighted image directly to wikipedia not to Commons. Please see Wikipedia:Fair use for more information --Justass (talk) 12:07, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sintel Movie Poster CC?

[edit]

You deleted the copyvio I added to File:Sintel poster.jpg without leaving a comment in the discussion or leaving any hint in the description how you came to the conclusion that this work is under the CCA3.0 license although the opposite is clearly written down on the website of the creator of the work, the Blender Foundation Durian Project Website. (I am talking about this edit: Changelog )

My decision to put the copyvio in there was based on this quote on the mentioned site: "Excluded from the Creative Commons is: all logos on this website (including Blender logo, Durian logo, Creative Commons logo) and associated trademarks."

On the movie poster, there are not only the Blender-Logo and the CC logo but also other logos (like the ones of the Netherlands Film Fund, DivX, ...), which was the reason why I assumed this work "excluded" from CCA3.0. I would therefore be happy if you could explain your view of this issue to let me understand your edit. Thanks. --Julian Herzog (talk) 20:14, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Blender logo and Blender Foundation icon that are copyrighted and clearly excluded from materials covered by CC Attribution 3.0 takes approximately 0.3% of the poster. Such small portion is more likely to be de minimis. In worst case scenario they can be blurred/distorted, but there is no a reason to delete all image because of that. All other logos are {{PD-textlogo}} --Justass (talk) 20:47, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, great. --Julian Herzog (talk) 08:51, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Shara Nelson

[edit]

Hi Justass, I've got your message about my uplouded files of Shara Nelson Art Cover. I've just registred on Wikimedia Commons as I thought it is the only way how to get pictures on Wikipedia. Straight after I uploaded the files I've received errors "Pay attention" because of copyrights. I am aware of not having copyrights for those pictures. I only wanted to add those Art Cover for the albums I edited. The only reason is to help to complete the page and to identify the albums by the cover. The "error information" led me to upload the pictures "locally" which I did and it seems to be ok. But I didn't delete the uploaded pictures in here - Wikimedia Commons. Shall I do it then to avoid any other warnings? If you could provide any advice for the future I'd be really greatful. Thank you very much. Kind Regards

Hello, tank you for help in illustrating articles. Commons allow only freely licensed images with the permission from author(s). Any copyrighted media, like covers, logos and so on can be uploaded locally to some Wikipedia (like English one) and as I see you successfully done that [42], [43].
All images you uploaded here are already deleted so no worries, just in the future please do not upload someone else work without written permission --Justass (talk) 17:21, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How is that a copyright violation? It's a collage, and those aren't copyright violations Purplebackpack89 (talk) 20:01, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

All images in the collage has to be freely licensed or be your own work, also all images has to be sourced. At least some of them are clearly not, like oprah winfrey --Justass (talk) 20:54, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
