Hello AntiCompositeNumber I hope you're doing well. I see few files nominated Commons:Deletion requests/File:Petauroides volans.jpg by you. I tried saving the files from deletion. Could you please have a look. Thanks for your consideration, stay safe. --C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 14:57, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

Mass undeletion?

Hello, would you know of any tool/script/solution for mass undeletion (says a stupid colleague who spent an unreasonable amount of time yesterday manually undeleting a neverending bunch of files)? Cheers, — Racconish💬 12:39, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

@Racconish: There is the Restore-a-lot gadget, which should cover most situations. I haven't used it much, but that's mostly because I don't spend much time at COM:UNDEL. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 15:46, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
Fantastic, it works perfectly! Thank you so much! — Racconish💬 20:22, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Bot

your bot tagged one of my files as "no license found". The file has a license (only the content is missing, it needs to be uploaded with server-side upload because of its size). Either way the bot should not be irritated by missing content. --C.Suthorn (talk) 19:27, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

@C.Suthorn I can't tell why the bot tagged that file. The bot only tags files that are in Category:Files with no machine-readable license that don't transclude {{License template tag}}. Neither are the case for this file as of now: it's not in the category and it has the tag. It also usually tags files 30-90 minutes after they were uploaded, not a day later. That only should happen if the file is uploaded with a license that is later removed (within a few days), and the bot will usually tag those files within an hour of the license removal. But I don't see anything like that, {{User:C.Suthorn/license-template}} hasn't been changed recently, and I can't find any template vandalism or anything. I'm going to choose to blame MediaWiki but will try to investigate further if it happens again. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 20:02, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

We need your feedback!

Hello. Apologies if this message is not in your native language: please feel free to respond in the language of your choice. Thank you!

I am writing to you because we are looking for feedback for a new Wikimedia Foundation project, Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW). SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet. We are now focusing on designing and building image suggestion features for experienced users.

We have some questions to ask you about your experience with uploading images here on Wikimedia Commons and then adding them to Wikipedia. You can answer these questions on a specific feedback page on Mediawiki, where we will gather feedback. As I said, these questions are in English, but your answers do not need to be in English! You can also answer in your own language, if you feel more comfortable.

Once the collecting of feedback will be over, we will sum it up and share with you a summary, along with updated mocks that will incorporate your inputs.

Also, if you want to keep in touch with us or you want to know more about the project, you can subscribe to our newsletter.

Hope to hear from you soon! -- Sannita (WMF) (talk to me!) 09:57, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

Suggestions for iNaturalistReviewBot

Hi ACN,

I've been doing some of the human reviews after your bot noticed there might be images imported from iNaturalist that are unfree. Might I suggest that (somewhere) you would document how to execute this human viewing? What to do after the image is okay, and how to handle if the image needs to be deleted. Just a suggestion, maybe you could link to a simple procedure from the iNaturalist review-failed template? Ciell (talk) 12:27, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

@Ciell I've added some information to Category:iNaturalist images needing human review, let me know if you think there's anything missing. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 18:53, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
Hi ACN, thank you for this. A few remarks I'd like to make:
  • Maybe make a clearer difference between the steps for the review on iNaturalist, and the steps for processing this review on Commons. Now it is al bullet list with a quite lot of text, making it harder to find the actual steps I need to take. A summary maybe, or shorter sentences? Or a subpage where you elaborate and just mention the main points here.
For the case I encountered and described above, I added the {{INaturalistreview}} again because the current image was okay, only to have the bot turn it down again. Does the bot take the original upload to iNaturalist maybe, and if the license has changed by the author afterwords it does not notice? I did not wait for the bot, but added the template again, and directly manually check the approved link.
For me, a person without a iNaturalist account: I don't see a 'flag'-symbol or link on the iNaturalist photo page (re: license laundering).
Best, Ciell (talk) 07:53, 5 August 2021 (UTC)

More mopping wanted

I noticed your cleaning up some file-overwriting vandalism directed against Pakistani personalities. A few files from the same spree still have revisions that should probably be hidden: File:Konferenz Pakistan und der Westen - Imran Khan.jpg, File:Pervez Musharraf 2004.jpg], and File:Iktearsoffpapers.jpg. I guess you missed them because they’d already been reverted by other editors. Thanks!—Odysseus1479 (talk) 19:07, 21 August 2021 (UTC)

Hello!

Some of the filenames of these files aren't complete for some reason. Also you would expect that this search would say "File:PDP-CH - Philadelphia Orchestra - -Wikipedia-Leopold Stokowski-Leopold Stokowski - Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 in F major, BWV 1047 - 1st Movement- Allegro - Johann Sebastian Bach - Hmv-d1708-42-606.flac (redirect from File:PDP-CH - Philadelphia Orchestra - -Wikipedia-Leopold Stokowski-Leopold Stokowski - Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 in F major, BWV 1047 - 1st Movement- Allegro - Johann Sebastian Bach - Hmv-d1708-42-606.flac.flac)" however it isn't. Celtic Minded

Hi, as you recently closed the related ANU thread, would you consider collapsing at least the paragraphs from this account that nobody else responded to, rather than just striking them? It's a lot of text to allow from a locked account, in fact, I think it's more dialogue than from anyone else there right now. Thanks -- (talk) 09:47, 30 August 2021 (UTC)

@ Sure, ✓ Done. Ended up collapsing the replies to them as well, because they weren't really productive and not doing so made the thread harder to read. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 15:57, 30 August 2021 (UTC)

Not banned, whew!

ACN - just so you know, I was following the thread where you struck some comments, and when I read in the collapse bar, "Globally-banned user AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 15:50, 30 August 2021 (UTC)" (for example) the meaning I took from that was this: "Comments in this thread by globally-banned user AntiCompositeNumber starting at <timestamp> have been struck". The fact that I saw it four or five times there, and did a brief open-shut click/glance on one of them without really reading, just to get a sense of the length, and number of editors (as one does, you know what I mean) did not change that impression. Because I know you, sort of, through your contributions and actions at en-wiki, I remember thinking how strange that you were banned here; then shrugged it off, and went on. (I should note I'm only an occasional visitor to COM, but I suppose that's not unusual for many en-wiki folks.) Anyway, in order to avoid confusion of this nature going forward, may I suggest a different title? How 'bout something like,

Comments by globally-banned user struck per <some policy>     by AntiCompositeNumber (talk) hh:mm dd Month yyyy

Nothing here...

It wasn't till I came here to find out why you were banned, that the light bulb came on. Just a thought. Mathglot (talk) 16:58, 1 September 2021 (UTC)

@Mathglot I was trying to avoid putting too much text in the collapse boxes, though I can see how you might be confused by that. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 17:07, 1 September 2021 (UTC)
Shorter, maybe?
Collapsed comments by globally-banned user     by AntiCompositeNumber (talk)

Nothing here...

The timestamp of the collapse action is in the history, and isn't really necessary for thread integrity I don't think. Anyway, I'll leave this with you. Cheers, Mathglot (talk) 17:13, 1 September 2021 (UTC)

File:Stellar Photo Recovery.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Perryprog (talk) 15:42, 9 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi AntiCompositeNumber, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

  1. You edited User:AntiCompositeNumber/temp.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
  2. Though, that change appears to introduce 1 new esprima issue — the page's status is now having ERRORS. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
  3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!

The file of Calci is a mistake form the uploader...

I know the guy, he is old and made a mistake. He uploaded basically the same file again in the wrong box of Wiki Loves monuments, that's why it originally had the wrong name. I fixed the name, than talked to him asking to pay attention, that's when we realzed what happened and I was asked to remove it. I simply made a redirect link. He is not so expert to ask a deletion request, and it was just simpler.

If there is some pedantic rule, than keep it. but there is practical reason to keep both. I am fine in any case. it will increase the number of file of WLM... and it's not my fault.--Alexmar983 (talk) 03:56, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

@Alexmar983 The two files have different lighting, so I can't delete either as a duplicate. I could merge them, but I'd want to hear from Renato camilli themselves before doing so. In the future, please don't redirect files that already exist, as it removes the attribution and licensing information without removing the file. Instead, tag them with {{Duplicate}} or nominate them for deletion. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 14:42, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
He won't even see this tag, he is not an expert user, mainly a WLM uploader. It's an intense season and there is no time to tutor a user to do a procedure. Keep both.--Alexmar983 (talk) 15:42, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

File:Galerida macrorhyncha distribution map.png.

Dear bot :-) you tagged the file above because of "contradictory information about the license". I rewrote that part and hope it is now clear that

  1. I made the map myself
  2. I used a source to be able to put data in a map
  3. I cited this source as exactly as possible

I hope this is enough - but at my userpage User talk:Andreas von Stackelberg the warning is still existing. Can I do something to get rid of it? Thx! Andreas von Stackelberg (talk) 23:09, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

@Andreas von Stackelberg Looks good to me. In general we encourage people to archive their talk pages instead of deleting, but there's nothing wrong with removing a bot notice about something you've fixed. You can just undo the edit or remove the section. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 23:32, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
By the way, you should list the source of the blank map of Africa that you used. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 23:33, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

Dear uploader of European Science Photo Competition 2015 and Wiki Science Competition 2017 and Wiki Science Competition 2019, we would like to remind you that Wiki Science Competition 2021 has started in the whole world. It is now completed in Russia (active in May), but it's still open in almost all the other countries.

If you want to take part in WSC2021, please consult this page. Only some national categories are associated to competitions with local prizes.

If you are an expert user, we remind you that images uploaded within the deadline can be included in any case in their national category even if not uploaded with the main interface.

Please keep in mind that there is a new category this year, that is "astronomy".

If you already took part in a country that has completed its upload phase, please consider improving the description in English of your files (click on the edit button), since such description is what the international jury will use to evaluate them. World finalists will be finalized after March 2020.

Sorry for bothering you and have a nice wiki.

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

@Michael Linnenbach The photo's license at https://www.inaturalist.org/photos/35208182 does not appear to have changed, and is still non-free. I can not undelete the file without evidence the copyright holder has released it under a free license. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 21:37, 31 January 2022 (UTC)

Images without the correct license

Hello AntiCompositeNumber,

It seems to me that four images of Lechenaultia floribunda in Commons,1 from inaturalist.org, taken by Timothy Hammer do not have have a "Cc-by-4.0" license. The license on the images in inaturalist.org is "CC BY-NC".1234 This appears to be a copyright infringement. Gderrin (talk) 00:09, 3 February 2022 (UTC)

I bring this to your attention, because each file is notated "It was reviewed on 15 September 2021 by INaturalistReviewBot and found to be published under the terms of the Cc-by-4.0 license." Gderrin (talk) 00:22, 3 February 2022 (UTC)

@Gderrin At the time the bot reviewed the files, the license was CC-BY-4.0 (see archive). The iNaturalist author appears to have changed the license since then, but it doesn't invalidate the previous license. That's part of why we have the license review process. You can tag the files with {{Change-of-license}}. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 05:00, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
I have declined the speedy deletion of these files and tagged them appropriately. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 05:18, 3 February 2022 (UTC)

I added the necessary attributes stations but I still get the bot that says it needs to be taken down. Here is the permission: https://twitter.com/AlexisTiptonVA/status/1487543585121746952 — Preceding unsigned comment added by BSTuna (talk • contribs) 12:37, 5 February 2022‎ (UTC)

@BSTuna The tweet provided does not clearly release the image under a free license that allows anyone to use the image for any purpose. In most cases, the photographer still owns the copyright to their photos, not the subject, so such a release would likely have to come from them. The copyright holder should contact COM:VRT. A deletion discussion has been opened for this file at Commons:Deletion requests/File:FKTP1r1XMAQGtJr.jpg, and you can comment there with any more information. Deletion of two videos WebM

Hello antiCompositeNumber ! I guess you deleted my two video File:Cône de rétreint amorti.webm and file:Cône_de_rétreint,_souff.webm. These two videos are from my camera. Did I make a mistake posting them?

Wouldn't it have been better if you had notified me of these deletions?

Friendly,Bernard de Go Mars (talk) 15:05, 7 February 2022 (UTC)

@Bernard de Go Mars They were uploaded without a source, author, or license, so video2commons tagged them automatically while uploading. I've undeleted them, please add the required information or they will be deleted again in a week. You can remove the no license tags once you have done so. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 16:13, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
Thank you: it is corrected! In fact the two WebM videos were published directly by the transcoding site, but I was not informed that the definition page remained to be completed.
Anyway, I think I was a little naive, because of precipitation! Bernard de Go Mars (talk) 16:54, 7 February 2022 (UTC)

Top 200 watermarked images?

I noticed that your bot AntiCompositeBot creates/updates many "Top 200 images..." pages. I'm wondering if there is such a page related to watermarked images (files with template {{Watermark}} or {{Timestamp}}). Or if such a page does not yet exist, whether it could be initiated? Personally, I would find it useful for locating widely used images that have unnecessary and/or inappropriate watermarks so that they could be cropped. Thank you, Marbletan (talk) 15:37, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

@Marbletan I'm not adding any new categories to that task right now, since doing so would require rewriting significant portions of the script. You can use GLAMorous instead. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 22:09, 10 March 2022 (UTC)
That looks helpful! Thank you kindly for the link. Marbletan (talk) 22:44, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

Cat-a-lot translation

Hello, ACN! :)

Recently I imported cat-a-lot as a gadget for my homewiki (SqWiki). I wanted to translate its interface but I can't do that since doing so would require creating a .js page here and that requires interface admin rights which I lack at Commons. I created that page in SqWiki: w:sq:MediaWiki:Gadget-Cat-a-lot.js/sq. Can you please import it here?

Other details:

  • I tested the tool out and saw that it already provided some small words in Albanian. I wonder where it might be getting its translated strings. The help page for it doesn't mention anything about TranslateWiki;
  • As with any kind of translation, you can only get it right and make it feel organic enough after you've contextualized it. Be that by seeing it in action or by having lots of examples providing context for the strings that are to be translated, details which unfortunately are both lacking in this case. Given that I understand requesting interface admin rights here, even temporary, to be able to do the requested fine-tuning myself would be a bit of a "sudden request" for the community, I have no other way as to annoy you or someone else about it. With this in mind, providing more examples in the translation doc or finding ways to make it accessible without needing to edit .js pages would both be very beneficial changes for my case and future ones. :) - Klein Muçi (talk) 14:02, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
@Klein Muçi I have imported the translation. The already-translated parts were probably MediaWiki interface messages that were reused in Cat-a-lot. Unfortunately, we just don't have the tools at the moment to make gadget/script translation easy (phab:T238386, phab:T156210). The best I could do is make it load translations from JSON instead of JS, but that would still require regular administrator access to edit. Feel free to add any documentation you think would be helpful to MediaWiki:Gadget-Cat-a-lot.js/translating. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 17:11, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
Thank you! I tried it out and unfortunately without passing a full day I noticed a lot of errors. I have updated w:sq:MediaWiki:Gadget-Cat-a-lot.js/sq accordingly, please paste it here whenever you can. There are also quite some phrases which are still in English with no possibility to translate them. If you have some free time you can activate it as a gadget in our wiki, open a random category and play around a bit with some commands. You'll see what I mean. But maybe for this I should be talking with one of the gadget's maintainers, if there are any active. - Klein Muçi (talk) 00:47, 12 March 2022 (UTC)

File:Mario Costa (footballer).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Thank you!

Pay attention to copyright
File:SLQ logo.svg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Thumbor

User:WDoran_(WMF) reached out to me regarding:

Currently, we're working on migrating Thumbor to the latest versions of Python, Thumbor and Debian. Alexandros Kosiaris(akosiaris) pointed me toward you. I wanted to ask for help in validating the new version of Thumbor.

We're ~60% of the way through the migration of the code base, though it is not necessarily a linear path and we may yet encounter blockers. Our current target is to have the new version of Thumbor running on our production kubernetes cluster toward the start of July. The service would not be receiving traffic yet but it would capable of doing so.

Right now we're starting to build our rollout plan that we will undertake from July to September. That will involve testing and validation of the new service to ensure that it performs at the expected level and that there are no regressions.

I think you are the most capable person of connecting WMF-Developers with the community, since you know the Community and I don't know anyone from the Community knowing WMF/Phabricator/Thumbor as good as you do. (User_talk:Glrx#Thumbor thinks quite similar.) I talked with User:WDoran_(WMF) already, however we have a so different background that we both almost talked about something almost incoherent. He focused about the update-process, where I do not understand "anything", and I talked mostly about about svg-rendering.

Maybe reach out to him via E-Mail, and tell him your concerns, he might not be used using the talk-page.

Hello,

I am messaging you because a contest for a sound logo for Wikimedia is being developed and your opinion as a Wikimedia Commons admin is appreciated. My team would like to know if it is possible for the top finalist sound logos in the contest to have attribution temporarily hidden from public view until all the votes are final? The idea is to let the public judge the sound logo contestants based on the merit of the logo, not the person or people who made it. Again, any feedback is appreciated.

Thank you,

VGrigas (WMF) (talk) 17:24, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

@VGrigas (WMF) Since entries must be CC0, there wouldn't be a license problem with removing attribution. However, because of phab:T90300, the upload log for the current version of a file can't be hidden. I don't know how you're planning to hold the vote, but the simplest method to prevent accidental bias would be to not link to the file page at all. False copyvio positive with Licensed-PD

Hi! AntiCompositeBot flagged an image with a perfectly valid license that uses {{Licensed-PD}} (which was present at the time of the flagging, not added afterwards). I’m not sure if the template is the culprit, but please make sure not to flag such images. (In any case, I’ve reverted this individual case.) —Tacsipacsi (talk) 13:20, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

@S.h.t 2007 File:2021 Islamic Solidarity Games logo.jpg was uploaded with {{نگاره نماد}} as the license, which is a template that does not exist on Wikimedia Commons. It does appear to be the Persian translation of "Non-free logo". Non-free files, or files used under fair use, are not allowed on Commons. If there is a better reason for this file to be on Commons, please correct the license tag, otherwise the file will be deleted. Please let me know if you have any questions. will be more careful

Hello, About the File:Actress Shin Hyun Been for Sunset In My Hometown Cine Concert on June 19, 2018.jpg At first Your bot has tagged me because I only included the License in text not tag. Before this I uploaded many photos at once cause I saw from some page of wikicommons that has the same source ie. tistory blog so I think Oh I can use it but the fact it was not permitted. I got it that the photo should from the site that has CC Creative Commons license so I searched for the source and finally found it but it is "Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.0 Korea (CC BY-NC-ND 2.0 KR)" in this website https://blog.naver.com/jins3112/221308938291 , However this one can't be used for commercial purpose, not sure if wikipedia is a commercial one? By the way, I added the tag (CC-BY-2.0 KR) right after I was warning from the bot and I was confused like how to deal with the bot's warning after adding the license tag. I apology for that. And I want someone to review if (CC BY-NC-ND 2.0 KR) can be used or not and just found out from your link that it cannot. For now,I know from the referred link/table "Summary of Creative Commons licenses on Wikimedia Commons " what kinds of CC that can be used it is so helpful I was very confused and new to this kind of things/edits. Thank you I will be more careful. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Winniebeen (talk • contribs) 18:07, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Unblacklist parliamentrm 135957213@N07

hi! can you please remove it from Commons:Questionable Flickr images/Users User:FlickreviewR/bad-authors? it has 86k images as of today and new uploads daily. blacklisting it for only 6 images from https://www.flickr.com/photos/parliamentrm/albums/72157718428629212 is disproportionate, blocking new valuable daily photos. besides, those photos are in a grey zone -- they're screenshots of a zoom call in which moldovan mp took part. RZuo (talk) 15:25, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

@RZuo It wasn't just those, there are probably at least 100 through 2020 and 2021. It looks like they're not uploading as many screenshots now though, so I've removed it from the bad author lists. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 20:18, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
