Image Tagging Image:Abirbulance.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Abirbulance.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Don't want to be hypercritical, but the flag of Portugal is anachronistic. Correct would apparently be File:Flag Portugal (1707).svg... AnonMoos (talk) 01:11, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for that, I didn't even check that out. I will try and fix the flag and upload a new picture soon. Again, thank you. Jakednb (talk) 13:11, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:38, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Syrian Military Flags
[edit]Thanks a lot for the barnstar! Although it look's like I was off with the writing though (apparently the writing is the branch's motto, rather than just the branch's name); sigh, back to work I suppose! You haven't happened to find any other videos or photos giving a clearer look at the writing/flags have you? MrPenguin20 (talk) 23:30, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
- I seems extremely hard to find. Syrian soldiers don't even have patches on their uniforms, so I can't even find unit symbols. I keep searching in hope to find something. Anyway, for now I have only found the Special Forces patch (a tiger's head) and there is also a SF badge (a skull and cross bones).Jakednb (talk) 15:47, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
- Those sound pretty interesting, where about did you find them? MrPenguin20 (talk) 22:30, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
- I have done the 'tiger' SF badge, it's in my user page. Also I have made an interesting connection while searching the web, the 'skull and cross bones' badge, seems to belong to soldiers of the 'Republican Guard'. You can find the badge here [1], and here is a youtube video of a Republican guard soldier wearing it [2], I have not found any special forces soldiers with it, so I assume it belongs only to the guard.
- If you are able to create an SVG image of the badge, it would be great for the Republican Guard page. I can not really create it in PNG.
- That's fantastic; I've been trying to find the Republican Guard badge for a while. I'll get right on it. MrPenguin20 (talk) 20:02, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
- There is however a problem I have found, this badge was also used by the "Defense Companies" during the 70's, this I have found in an Osprey book showing Syrian uniforms. It is possible that the Republican Guards inherited the badge when the companies were dissolved in the 80's. The other option is that it is a general SF badge, However, I have not yet seen it used by SF troops, so I guess we will have to go with the first option. Good luck, I will be happy to see the end result. Jakednb (talk) 20:36, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
I've found another Division SSI; you can see it here and here (at 1:01). Any idea what unit it might be for? I'm wondering if it's perhaps some kind of Media relations unit? (as he's a military reporter) MrPenguin20 (talk) 22:17, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
- Good find, after a search of my own, I believe this is probably his rank (see here). The patch above (green square with crossed swords) is either the infantry patch or the General Staff patch, I've seen it on many officers. Jakednb (talk) 09:17, 21 September 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah that makes sense. Thanks! MrPenguin20 (talk) 02:06, 23 September 2013 (UTC)
Great work on finding those Syrian military patches! It might take me a little while to identify them, but in the meantime I can tell you that the patch with Commandos written underneath it says "Special Forces", whilst the patch on the man with the Jesus tattoo says "National Defense" - probably a member of the National Defense Force. MrPenguin20 (talk) 17:36, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
- Btw you don't still happen to have the link to the LiveLeak video do you? MrPenguin20 (talk) 21:30, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

File:A young boy walks with a bicycle past Syrian army soldiers in the city of Harasta, 9 km north of Damascus on February 15, 2012..jpg has been marked as a copyright violation. You may have preserved the information shown on Flickr correctly when transferring the image here, but the Flickr uploader is not the copyright holder of this image. Either the image was created by someone else, or it is a derivative of someone else's work. As stated in Commons:Licensing, only the copyright holder may issue a license, so the one shown on Flickr is invalid.
Always remember to critically evaluate Flickr licenses. Photostreams with professional-looking photographs, album covers, posters, and images in a wide range of styles or quality taken by many different cameras often indicate that the Flickr uploader either does not understand or does not care about copyright matters. Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2018 is open!
[edit]Dear Jakednb,
You are receiving this message because we noticed that you voted in R1 of the 2018 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in the second round. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2018) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked.
In the final (and current) round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2018.
Round 2 will end 17 March 2019, 23:59:59.
Thanks,

Insignia of Regiments of Indian Army
[edit]Hello @Jakednb:
I have noticed you have uploaded crest of various British Army regiments. I request you to please create vectorised SVG images for insignia of various Indian Army regiments.
Most of these regiments were formed during British rule in India, so they more or less use insignia which are similar to that of British Army regiments with slight variations. If you wish to create images, here is the list of insignia -
- Assam Regiment
- Bihar Regiment
- Brigade of the Guards
- Dogra Regiment
- Garhwal Rifles
- Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry
- Jammu and Kashmir Rifles
- Jat Regiment
- Kumaon Regiment
- Madras Regiment
- Mahar Regiment
- Maratha Regiment
- Mechanised Infantry Regiment
- Naga Regiment
- Punjab Regiment
- Rajputana Rifles
- Rajput Regiment
- Sikh Light Infantry
- Sikh Regiment
- The Grenadiers
I recommend you to use already uploaded vector images of British Army regimental badges to create the above insignias. Thanks and hope you will respond.👍🙂

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2022 voting is open!
[edit]Read this message in your language
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee
