Ten wandal skasował z Commons - Category:Wiązownica (województwo podkarpackie) - na jakiej podstawie?

Jeżeli on skasował moje utworzone kategorie, to ja mu usunąłem część zawartości jego strony. Żądam aby tę kategorię przywrócił — Preceding unsigned comment added by In eegent (talk • contribs) 18:15, 9 October 2018 (UTC)

This vandal was deleted from the Commons - Category:Wiązownica (województwo podkarpackie) - on what basis? If he deleted my created categories, I deleted some of his page content. I demand that this category be restored

And this is what I get..

For all the work I put into improving things here, sometimes doing things few others can, this is the thanks I get: Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems#Alexis Jazz trashing EXIF and disrupting DR.

And I don't know if we'll ever see Guanaco again. Here are his editstats: User:Alexis Jazz/Guanacostats (forgot to adjust colors for Commons editcounts..nevermind that). He also took a break in February/March so maybe. He planned a re-evaluation for Jcb. I would probably be the main driving force to make that evaluation a meaningful one. But I just might be blocked for good faith edits and voicing my opinion before that can even happen. And the question rises: does Commons even deserve my time.

Also pinging Donald Trung. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 19:27, 10 November 2018 (UTC)

That's bad, I don't see why they want to crucify you over the fact that the images you removed the EXIF data for are in in the DR because they are nominated for having a bad license in the EXIF data. Jan Arkesteijn should be the one cleaning it up, but another volunteer is removing the EXIF in good faith, although I wouldn't advise you to continue as not only the licenses get removed. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 19:36, 10 November 2018 (UTC)

Pixabay

Can I just add {{Pixabay}} to files, or do I have to include the file ID as a template argument? - Alexis Jazz ping plz 16:57, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

@Alexis Jazz: the documentation says it's required, but the template will still work fine without it. Since the template has to be replaced with {{subst:PBLR}} for license review, it doesn't matter to me as long as the ID or source URL is somewhere on the page. Including the ID in {{Pixabay}} just makes the process slightly quicker ({{Pixabay|12345}} to {{subst:PBLR|12345}}, for example). clpo13(talk) 17:08, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

File:Paris Rain (30909102376).jpg (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Hi, picking up on this being put again in the sandbox report, though the image itself is on Flickr, the pixabay image referenced does not exist there and redirects to a generic search. If it were on pixabay, then we could add that as the first line of the source parameter, and the webarchive version would get picked up.

It may need to be marked as no source, simply because there is no evidence that the source existed on pixabay or the archives. -- (talk) 18:51, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

Archive link: https://web.archive.org/web/20170130101712/https://pixabay.com/en/paris-eiffel-tower-landmark-1791044/. Unfortunately, the image itself wasn't saved, but since the page did exist – and had appropriate tags and matching metadata – I'm inclined to believe the sources of the derivative are legit. I think it'd survive a DR, at least, if it came to that. clpo13(talk) 19:00, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

A simple comment?

Good evening, user Clpo 13. The edition you did in the deletion request of File:Presentacion-de-La-Tremenda-Corte.ogv, is it a vote against or a simple comment? Thanks for your attention.

Attentively.... --Villalaso (talk) 01:26, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

  • @Villalaso: it's just a comment, but you should be aware that deletion discussions on Commons are not simple votes (see COM:DR). The reviewing administrator, whoever that might be, will evaluate the discussion and determine what appropriate action to take, based not only on the comments, but also on local and international copyright laws and Commons policy. clpo13(talk) 17:45, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

Thanks

Someone was being not so nice earlier with the overzealous copyvio accusation (he seems to do it a lot to other people), thanks for removing it! Is it okay for me to clear that from my discussion page now, or should I let someone else do it? B4shful (talk) 23:26, 4 April 2019 (UTC)

@B4shful: you're welcome. I assume Patrick missed the OTRS tag when he patrolled the image. Since the speedy deletion tag was in error, I don't see any reason you shouldn't remove the notice from your talk page if you want. clpo13(talk) 23:30, 4 April 2019 (UTC)

Request

Hi @Clpo13: . Since you posted on my talk page to clarify (and thank you very much!), I will reach out to you about how I need to proceed on next steps to save my image from speedy deletion.

I just sent an long note explaining my picture creation process and provided detectable evidence on the image itself on EugeneZelenko's Talk page, and I also provided an example of the image that inspired my work (An old illustration of Ann Hutchinson) followed by my own image on my own talk page, User talk:wtfiv. I put my image beneath it, so that the inspiration and the non-derivative nature of it can be seen. From what I've read on speedy deletions, just don't think there is evidence that my work fits into any of the elements of the "speedy deletion" category, unless I'm just misunderstanding something.

EugeneZelenko may not yet have had a chance to reply to my latest post yet and he is a responsive admin, so my request to you may still be a bit premature. But I am a little concerned that in the last discussion, EugeneZelenko insisted on an additional demands to "prove" the work is mine to move me off the speedy delete list (e.g., he wanted me to resubmit a bigger image when the image I submitted was within a few pixels of the original canvas I created and then repeated the attribution claim. I'm reaching out because I want to be proactive, as I'm proud of my work (see the image comparisons) and would like to ensure that is not prematurely deleted. Of course, I have requested that it be taken off the deletion list altogether, but I did ask that if he still felt that I am doing some copyright violation that he at least put my image on a normal deletion track so I could have it judged fairly by consensus.

My understanding, if I read the documentation correctly, is that normal deletion generates a discussion page. I gave details on his talk page). At this point, I'm starting to feel that I'm at the mercy of one person's judgement. It may be a seasoned judgement, but not necessarily correct in this case. If he and I cannot agree as to the status of the work, is there a way that I can garner other opinions and insight first? Any help or direction you can offer would be appreciated. Thank you very much.Wtfiv (talk) 08:41, 27 April 2019 (UTC)

EugeneZelenko did reply and admitted a second opinion would be good, though he still had his own personal reservations, but the template remains the same, the clock is still running, and I'm unsure how to open a discussion that can reach a consensus in time. Could you help?Wtfiv (talk) 16:05, 27 April 2019 (UTC)

I've been going through the guidelines and potential issues to the best of my ability. My understanding is that I can convert a speedy deletion to a regular one, which I did, so now there is a discussion page. I copied information from my talk page to start the discussion, but kept your account name out of it in case you rather not be involved. (Though I'd welcome your weighing in if interested.) Even though you didn't have time to reply to this, I just want to thank you for the potential of being available. Your simple clarification on my talk page helped me to figure out- after some trial and error- how to get started.Wtfiv (talk) 18:37, 28 April 2019 (UTC)

@Wtfiv: sorry for not replying sooner, I didn't have Internet access for a while there. I agree that a discussion is the best way to go. FWIW, after reading your posts, I don't think there's any problem with the image. I'll chime in at the discussion when I get a chance. clpo13(talk) 16:48, 29 April 2019 (UTC)

Thank you, I appreciate both your note here and on your feedback on the discussion page.Wtfiv (talk) 17:54, 29 April 2019 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States – Back for 2019!

This user participated in Wiki Loves Monuments 2019.

Want to show your participation in Wiki Loves Monuments 2019? Add {{User Wiki Loves Monuments 2019}} to your userpage!

Hello! Last year you contributed to Wiki Loves Monuments 2018 in the United States. Thanks to people like you it was a great success, with over 1,900 people contributing over 10,000 photos of cultural and historic sites from all over the country. Hundreds of these photos now help illustrate Wikipedia articles, improving our open knowledge about United States history, culture, and heritage. If you haven't seen the winners yet, be sure to check them out here.

I'm pleased to say that we're back this year with Wiki Loves Monuments 2019 in the United States, and I'd like to welcome you to participate once again in the event. Check out our updated event page for more information. Just like last year, you'll be able to upload your photos of any registered historical site in the United States through the end of September (even if the photos were taken before this month).

If you've traveled and taken photos of monuments in non-US countries, you can see if those countries are also participating here.

Once again, thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2018, and we hope to see you again in this year's event! If you'd like to respond to this message directly, please do so on on my talk page. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 05:15, 1 September 2019 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States 2019 – Last day to enter!

This user participated in Wiki Loves Monuments 2019.
Want to show your participation in Wiki Loves Monuments 2019? Add {{User Wiki Loves Monuments 2019}} to your userpage!

September 30th is the last day to upload photos for Wiki Loves Monuments! We're thrilled that the United States has almost reached 4,000 contributions so far this year. Of these images, ~370 (~9%) have already been used to help illustrate Wikipedia articles and pages on other wiki projects, which is fantastic.

If you've already made a photo contribution this year, thanks so much! If you have any last-minute photos of U.S. historical sites to upload and enter into the contest, today's the day to do it. Check out the United States event page for more information. Judging will take place throughout the month of October, after which the top-ten national finalists will be announced in early November.

If you've traveled and taken photos of monuments in non-US countries, you can see if those countries are also participating here.

As always, thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments! If you'd like to respond to this message directly, please do so on on my talk page. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 05:49, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at Wikimedia Commons.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

How can I remove unsafe CSS from a Svg ?

Hi , Do you know how to remove unsafe CSS from a SVG file? Is there a program for that ? Thanks Neverstopthat (talk) 06:43, 16 March 2020 (UTC)

Here is the link to the file https://vectr.com/tmp/a6nEAbikDo/eIr4iRKCH.svg?width=1920&height=1080&select=eIr4iRKCHpage0 Neverstopthat (talk) 06:47, 16 March 2020 (UTC)

@Neverstopthat: it looks like the main problem is that there's an <image> tag in the SVG source code, which is usually forbidden by the software Wikimedia Commons uses. It also looks like there's an embedded font file in the CSS style, which might also be part of the problem. You can open up the SVG file in a text editor and look for long strings of random text, which indicate embedded Base64 data. There's more information on SVGs at Help:SVG, and you can test-upload files to Commons:Commons SVG Checker or SVG Check to see if any problems come up. To start, I'd suggest removing everything between the <style> and </style> and the same for <image> and </image>. It might not look exactly like the source, but it should upload. clpo13(talk) 18:22, 16 March 2020 (UTC)

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades...

Clpo13, congratulations! You now have administrator rights on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and it's subpages), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care. Have a look at the list of Gadgets (on the bottom there are the ones specifically for admins – however, for example the UserMessages are very helpful too).

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons webchat on irc.freenode.net. There is also a channel for Commons admins, which may be useful for more sensitive topics, or coordination among administrators: #wikimedia-commons-admin webchat.

You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading. You can find the admin backlog overview at COM:AB.

Please also check or add your entry to the List of administrators and the related lists by language and date it references.

Pictures deleted of page Georg Erhardt (Maler)

Dear clpo13,

Three pics got deleted on my dads page: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georg_Erhardt_(Maler) Why? I created the page together with the artist, just before he died. For example: File:Georg Erhardt, Ceasornicarie, 2002.jpg — Preceding unsigned comment added by AndereWelt2020 (talk • contribs) 15:24, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

Could you please undelete them? I don't see the problem…

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by AndereWelt2020 (talk • contribs) 15:25, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

@AndereWelt2020: according to the copyright rules of Switzerland, the artist's native country, his art is protected by copyright for 70 years after his death. Since he died in 2020, his works will not become public domain there until 2091. Therefore, hosting copies of them on Wikimedia Commons is a copyright violation, unless you have permission from his estate to publish copies of his art under a free license. Such permission can be sent to COM:OTRS. clpo13(talk) 18:46, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

First of all, thank you so, so much for reviewing the copyright on my uploads and confirming that they are either mine or freely licensed whence I got them. That being said, there is the matter of the file of "Wikipedia Chanukah", which is an audio file by Jonathan Coulton and John Roderick. I believe I have enough evidence to prove that it is freely licensed. Allow me to demonstrate:

  • As the title explicitly says, the lyrics of Wikipedia Chanukah are copied directly from Wikipedia, so the file is a work adapted and derived from Wikipedia. Since Wikipedia text is licensed with an Attribution-Sharealike Creative Commons license, the derived work must have the same license (save for copyright exceptions such as fair use and de minimis, which don't apply here). Ergo, Wikipedia Chanukah must be licensed with the same free license as Wikipedia itself, which is—as said–Creative Commons: Attribution-Sharealike.
  • Jonathan Coulton said that Wikipedia Chanukah was licensed with a Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike license on his blog: https://www.jonathancoulton.com/2013/05/08/this-is-for-samuel/ (The "Samuel" to whom he is referring is me (we're neighbors)).

All that being said, we do not have permission from John Roderick. Is it implied, or should I contact him so that he may contact you (and anyone relevant at Wikipedia)? I do not want the media to be deleted, and I feel its presence on the commons is extremely justified. Thank you for your audience, IronCurtaiNYC (talk) 21:13, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

@IronCurtaiNYC: I passed that one up initially because the permission page didn't mention what version of the license the song is released under, which is important. Just saying BY-SA is ambiguous, since there are multiple versions of that license with slightly different terms. Now that I've had some more time to look into it, I see that Coulton uses BY-NC 3.0 for everything, so he most likely meant BY-SA 3.0, since that's the version Wikipedia articles use. He could have also used a later version, but BY-SA 4.0 didn't come out until November 2013, while the permission statement is from May 2013.
As for permission from Roderick, I don't think that's necessary so long as it's clear that Coulton has the ability to license songs made by the both of them. I won't insist on it, but if you want to make absolutely sure everything is squared away, feel free to contact him and have him put a statement on a website associated with him or send it via COM:OTRS. clpo13(talk) 18:30, 25 June 2020 (UTC)

License Review

Hello Clpo13 thanks for reviewing my upload of pixabay files. And I apologized that you had to update the max resolution to the file. C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 17:03, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

@C1K98V: You're welcome! And no worries about that. It's part of the license review process to make sure the maximum size is available here on Commons. If you want to download the largest resolution from Pixabay yourself, you can create a free account there. clpo13(talk) 17:06, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
Clpo13 okay I will create a account for that. Thanks for reviewing, and helping to clear out the backlog.C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 17:16, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
@Clpo13: when I uploaded the pixabay file the metadata information was missing on description page, now as you reviewed my uploads I can metadata in description page of files. How come, can you elaborate? Please. Thanks C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 17:37, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
@C1K98V: I think it has to do with the resolution that was uploaded. Pixabay might strip metadata from lower-resolution versions while the full-resolution original has the full metadata. That's my guess at least. clpo13(talk) 17:40, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
These issue of metadata can cause license problem and the upload may be tag for deletion. I will keep these in mind upload from now onwards. Thanks C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 17:43, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

Any chance you could more actively assist with these?

I also moved around 80 files into Category:Henry G. Another flickr video uploaded as a still pic

Hi Clpo - a few months ago you helped out upload a flickr video which had been erroneously imported to Commons as a still pic only. I've found another similar case, here: File:Southern Red-billed Hornbill (Tockus rufirostris) catching a Sybillid Mantis (Sybilla pretiosa) in the outdoor kitchen (16623721701).jpg. Could you get its video from Flickr and upload it, please? Note that the filename and species identification on the Flickr original is incorrect; please use the corrected name above (i.e., [[:File:Southern Red-billed Hornbill (Tockus rufirostris) catching a Sybillid Mantis (Sybilla pretiosa) in the outdoor kitchen (16623721701).webm). Thanks for uploading File:Flag of Concrete, Washington.svg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Flag of Concrete, Washington.svg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Please participate in the Universal Code of Conduct consultation on Wikimedia Commons!

Dear Clpo13

Thank you for your hard work to create the sum of all knowledge that is freely sharable to every single human being across the world. As our diverse community grows, we need a guideline that will help all of our work collectively and constructively where everyone feels safe, welcomed, and part of a team. That is why the Wikimedia movement is working on establishing a global guideline called the Universal Code of Conduct, often referred to as UCoC.

After the months-long policy consultation, we have prepared a policy (available in many languages) that has been ratified by the Board of Trustees. We’re currently in the second phase of the process. During this round of consultation, we want to discuss the implementation of this policy. As a member of the functionary team of Wikimedia Commons, your opinion on enforcement is of great value. We want to hear from you on how this policy can be enforced on the Wikimedia Commons community and what might be needed to do so. There are a few enforcement questions so you can easily outline your answers based on them. Please do not hesitate to bring any more questions/challenges you think are not yet discussed.

The discussion is taking place on Commons:Universal Code of Conduct consultation. You can also share your thoughts by replying to this message (Please ping me so I get notified), posting your message on my talk page. I am aware that some thoughts cannot be expressed publicly, so you can always share your opinion by emailing me as well.

As a valued member of the Commons community, please share your thoughts, ideas, and experiences that relate to UCoC. Let us know what needs to be improved so we can build a more friendly and cooperative space to increase editor engagement and retention of new users.

Wikimedia projects are governed by you. So, it is you who needs to step up to ensure a safe, comfortable, and pleasant working environment.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you! Wikitanvir (WMF) (talk) 10:18, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

Please take a short survey regarding UCoC

Hello Clpo13,

I would like to inform you that we now have a survey in place to take part in the UCoC consultation. It is not a long one and should take less than 10 minutes to complete. You can take the survey even if you have already participated in the on-wiki consultation. It has a different set of questions and allows you to participate anonymously and privately.

As a member of the Commons functionaries, your opinion is especially essential. Please click here to participate in the survey.

You are still welcome to participate in the on-wiki discussions. If you prefer you can have your say by sending me an email. You can also drop me an email if you want to have a one-to-one chat.

Thank you for your participation! Wikitanvir (WMF) 13:53, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Need your assistance in updating the nair woman file that you have restored.

Hello dear clpo13,

Please find the evidence below. The attire uploaded as nair women is wrong as it belongs to a minor child. As you can see in the following image the attire of women is different. Thats why i chose to correct the image uploaded as the image currently in place has been circulated and spreading misinformation across the internet including the google search results.

Need you support to fix this please.

Conversion to svg

At Commons:Deletion requests/File:Atom Economy - Claisen and Wittig Example.pdf you mention that you made "a quick and dirty conversion of the original to SVG". Can I ask how it was done? I assume you used an automated tool, rather than doing it manually. Thanks, Marbletan (talk) 19:24, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

@Marbletan: Of course. I used a utility called pdf2svg. In most cases, you can just run pdf2svg input.pdf output.svg to get a usable and hopefully valid SVG. Ideally, graphics like this within PDFs should already be in vector format, which is why it's so easy to pull out an SVG, though any embedded raster images won't convert over. Also, text is converted as glyphs/paths instead of actual editable text, which is why it's "quick and dirty". Inkscape can also convert PDFs to SVG with a little more control over how it's done. Hope that helps. clpo13(talk) 19:36, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll give it a try. Marbletan (talk) 19:53, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

how to delete already uploaded photo

Hello, You have commented on my question how to delete the photos but there are no page for them yet. These are only in my uploads and contributions. Any idea how to change or delete there? Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by MonikaLisa2 (talk • contribs) 18:39, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

@MonikaLisa2: you can get to the file page by looking through your contributions or uploads and clicking on the name of the file you want deleted. You'll end up at a page like File:County Waterford - Kinsalebeg Church - 20210928183548.jpg. Once there, you can click Edit at the top, paste {{subst:my bad upload}} above the existing code, and click "Publish Changes" at the bottom to save the page. I hope that helps. Alternatively, you can tell me the names of any files you want deleted and I can do it directly. Whichever's easiest for you. clpo13(talk) 18:48, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

thank you, I am new to this code typing. 2016 Washington gubernatorial election

Hey, I saw that you added the new version of the 2020 gubernatorial election map including write-ins. I was wondering if you could change the 2016 gubernatorial election map to include write-ins. This would lead to Pierce County being plurality Democratic and Wahkiakum County being less than 60% Republican. Source: https://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/state.php?fips=53&year=2016&f=0&elect=0&off=5 Thanks. Thomascampbell123 (talk) 16:04, 21 December 2021 (UTC)

@Thomascampbell123: ✓ Done Let me know if there are any others you'd like me to update. clpo13(talk) 17:16, 21 December 2021 (UTC)

Thanks ☺️, I was wondering how to create election county maps on my own as well. Thomascampbell123 (talk) 17:20, 21 December 2021 (UTC)

@Thomascampbell123: I think the way most people do it is to download one of the previous maps, like File:2020 Washington gubernatorial election results map by county.svg, and open it up in a text editor, like Notepad. For quick changes, I use the user script User talk:Rillke/SVGedit.js to edit directly on the file information page. You can also open SVGs in Inkscape, but that has a bit of a learning curve and I'm not super familiar with it. Once the file's open in a text editor, if you search by county name, you'll see a chunk of code starting with <path and ending with inkscape:label="County Name, WA" />. Between those points is the code that forms the county shape. To change the shading for a county, look for the quoted text after style= and change the color code after fill: to the code matching the vote percentage for that county, like fill:#d75d5d. Do this for every county that needs changes. You shouldn't need to touch anything else. You can preview your changes by opening the file in a web browser or uploading it to Commons:Commons SVG Checker or File:Test.svg. When you're done, save the file, making sure it has the .svg file extension (not .txt), and upload it to Commons under a new name, using a template like {{Derived from}} to link back to the original to comply with any licensing requirements. You can learn more about SVGs and how to create or edit them at Help:SVG. Hope that helps. clpo13(talk) 17:50, 21 December 2021 (UTC)

Actually, there's an additional error that I found with an election map. In the 2024 United States gubernatorial elections imagemap, American Samoa should be shaded grey instead of blue since it's governor is officially nonpartisan. This is including in the 2020, 2016, etc. imagemaps. Thomascampbell123 (talk) 02:21, 22 December 2021 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Hello,

I am messaging you because a contest for a sound logo for Wikimedia is being developed and your opinion as a Wikimedia Commons admin is appreciated. My team would like to know if it is possible for the top finalist sound logos in the contest to have attribution temporarily hidden from public view until all the votes are final? The idea is to let the public judge the sound logo contestants based on the merit of the logo, not the person or people who made it. Again, any feedback is appreciated.

Thank you,

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
