Image deletion warning Image:Dsc00076.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Hello, Popolon!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Wiki loves monument

[edit]

Bonjour,

Unfortunately, your edits left something of a mess in the image description, because:
1) It's obviously a lion, not a bulldog.
2) The fact that the eagle has a direct quote from Josiah Tattnall in 1858 is highly relevant, even if the cartoonist was born in 1872. AnonMoos (talk) 02:09, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Did you already seen lions with bulldog head (flat face and falling ears, have you translated the chinese title of the article, did you look at the first version, do you know the mascot of the UK ??? Bear is for russia, bard eagle for the usa, and frog for the france in the uk point of vue, but not the gaellic frog, for french, the mascot is the gaellic rooster. Do you see ths script to be highly relevant ???Popolon (talk) 20:40, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have very little idea what you think you're taking about, but I wrote most of the original English-language annotations to both File:Politcal Map of 19th Century China(時局全圖).jpg and File:时局图.jpg, and a lion is not a bulldog (though sometimes Chinese artists had a way of assimilating the facial features of lions and so-called "lion dogs"). Since your English seems to be a little shaky, maybe you should refrain from attempting to write extended expository passages in it. Merci... AnonMoos (talk) 21:32, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The page was moved by an admin to File:Fictitious Tibetan Flag-before 1912.svg. This was apparently based on discussion at Commons:Deletion requests/File:TibetanFlag-before1912.svg. Based what may be consensus in the DR, I suggested a move to File:Unidentified flag appearing on Potala illustration. If that is acceptable to you, I plan to ask for a file mover to rename the file. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Autopatrol given

[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. INeverCry 00:45, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Anachronisme

[edit]

Bonjour.

Popolon (talk) 12:12, 22 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, fyi I made a request concerning you at the admin notice board. --6-A04-W96-K38-S41-V38 (talk) 10:25, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, I have reactivated my request for a formal warning by an admin, as my previous request was archived by a bot without an admin examining it. I hope this will allow to restart on a good base. --6-A04-W96-K38-S41-V38 (talk) 14:30, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, perhaps he wants to commit wiki-suicide. Popolon, I suggest you sit back and watch, I don't see any response from you as necessary. Responding to something like this, less is more. --Abd (talk) 18:25, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have responded there. (permanent link.) I'm loquacious, I write a lot. Not when I have a clear goal in mind. The issues there have become very simple. We will see what admins do. There is zero chance of you being blocked if you do nothing. I'd put the chance of him being blocked this time at above fifty percent. I wasn't going to do anything about his removal of my warning, but, indeed, he set it up for that to be used on AN/U. This user can make positive contributions, so I'd hope he is not indef blocked, and, my guess, he won't be. Not this time. --Abd (talk) 18:52, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Warning

[edit]

As pointed out in the above request on AN/U, (permanent link) you repeatedly called the edits of User:6-A04-W96-K38-S41-V38 "vandalism." That was unnecessary and inflammatory. Please do not use such language about other users, even if you strongly disagree with them. Your edits on File:Qinghai.Mongolian yurt.jpg approached revert warring, and your last revert there repeated the vandalism claim, leading the editor to file the AN/U report.

Some users may be argumentative and difficult to deal with. However, please do not make matters worse with incivility, and please use the Talk page to resolve disputes. Ask for help if you need it. I'm willing to help negotiate consensus, or you may find others willing to mediate. --Abd (talk) 01:09, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Abd, thank you for your advice, I will try to keep calm, find the good word instead of vandalism. At this time, the user already had reverted or suppressed lot of sourced informations on several articles on fr: wikipedia in a POV-push manner and he started to extend this on commons :(. I still don't know what is the exact word for that. Perhaps I should only add reverted sourced information, or something like that.Popolon (talk) 08:57, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Right. If it isn't pure vandalism, like "Poop!!!", always see if you can compromise, Assume Good Faith. You don't have to kill yourself, you have the right idea. Keep it simple. This is Commons, there shouldn't be high content conflict here. Yes, there was fr.wiki history. Set it aside for Commons. Don't focus on the "problem user," focus on your goals and our goals. And good luck, and if you ever need any assistance negotiating with a user, where you find yourself nonplussed, frustrated, ask me. If I haven't been active on Commons, send me an email. My goal is to empower users, I get more good content created that way than by creating it myself. I will work for a sane compromise, and if that's impossible, if I find that a user is really and purely a troll (which is rare), I'll report. You won't have to. I suggest reading and understanding meatball:DefendEachOther. That was original wiki culture, it has often been lost, but it works. --Abd (talk) 15:18, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank's a lot for your answer. I will try to follow a little more this rules. In about 13 years of wikipedia, that's the first time I meet a so destructive user.Popolon (talk) 12:57, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Then be grateful that you have lived a charmed life. Now, this is truly funny. Sure I'm banned on enwiki. What for? Well, if I wanted to trace it back, it would be for warning administrators of policy violations, which were confirmed by ArbCom, and one sysop was desysopped (basically for blocking me -- after I'd warned him), and ... it is not a popular thing to do, warn sysops!
Your response to my warning demonstrated that you are collaborative, that you can learn, that you can stand back and be tolerant, all that good stuff.
His response has demonstrated what you have written. He's looking for something wrong. He might think, "Ah! The user who warned me is Bad and I can prove it!" He's not the first to think that way!
He may not understand that removing the warning has no protective effect. It acknowledges receipt of it. It will only fool the naive. I always look through talk page history to examine removals as distinct from archiving. He can't alter the talk page history, and "Warning" shows in it. So someone looking at his behavior in the future is likely to find that, read it, and see a confirmation, if he has continued the behavior. However, this may be a throw-away account.
And now that I'm engaged and poked like that, I just might watch him occasionally to make sure he's not creating disruption, as might others. This is what we do! It is not personal. It's wiki.
Someone looking at your talk page will also see a warning, but if they look at the warning, they will see your commitment to being more careful. If you are, in fact, more careful -- as I expect you will be -- you will look quite good. All that is needed, usually, is a bit of patience, and a willingness to seek agreement. And I have no reason to think that looking over your contributions will reveal a problem. So ... thanks for your patience, and "the reward of patience is patience." --Abd (talk) 18:15, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Talk pages are not for general chatter; please keep discussions on talk pages on the topic of how to improve the associated article.
Popolon, 6-A04 has a point, but is socially uncivil. That is, small chatty and friendly remarks may be made. This is a community of human beings. The link is to a guideline, not a rigid policy, and was obviously taken from Wikipedia ("article"). I considered removing the comment, since it offended him, but decided that it was not worth creating more burden for Recent Changes patrollers. Tant pis. In the future, Popolon, it appears that 6-A04 does not welcome small talk, so please do not offend him. We may review his contributions and feed him comments of greater weight, as warranted, of course. --Abd (talk) 20:42, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I will try to refrain on pages this user change, at least when he doesn't remove sourced information, as he does so frequently.Popolon (talk) 13:44, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Translation cantonese

@Smitersleon: I better know mandarin dialects than cantoneses one, I only barely understand cantonese speaker on most common subjects. What do you want to translate ? Should be better to ask a native chinese speaker I believe :).Popolon (talk) 13:57, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Popolon, I would translate in cantonese this page and this page for copy in this page I asked all users Cantonese but I responded no , I'm waiting . You perhaps can not help but thank you very much for the answer. By Smitersleon (talk) 15:58, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:10 Tugriks - Verso.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:10 Tugriks - Verso.jpg) and the above demanded information in your request.

Jarekt : This is the problem of any banknotes, there are a lot already on Category:Banknotes_by_country and in this case Category:Banknotes_of_Mongolia. I personnally scanned the banknote, so which rules need to be applied in those cases ?Popolon (talk) 14:44, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Popolon, scanning does not give you the copyrights to the work scanned. Those rights belong to the person who designed the banknote. Many countries have legislations which explain copyright status of the banknotes, but I do not know Mongolia's copyright laws. --Jarekt (talk) 22:27, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I understand, but I suppose, this is considered public domain by default ?

Unfortunately, your attempt at dating does not seem to be useful here, since the U.S. was not in the Philippines until 1898, Japan had negligible influence on anything in 1858-1860, the apparent author was born in 1872, etc. Sakhalin was a territorial claim (just as the Republic of China on Taiwan was vetoing the admission of Mongolia to the UN to maintain its territorial claim on Mongolia as late as 1955). File:Paris IV-Rue Simon-le-Franc.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Category discussion warning

Category:Gol_Mod has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Hi

[edit]

Hi. This picture that you included into Category:Kashk; can you tell me where can I find the kashk in the image? Is it an ingredient of some cookie? --E4024 (talk) 12:49, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@E4024: . Yes several use drained milk (yellow one, and I'm not sure (that was 3 years ago), white one too), there are common in Inner-Mongolia, and are eat with salted milk tea. strangely a friend from outer-Mongolia (so called Mongolia state today), didn't know this kind of candies when I give her some in Paris.Popolon (talk) 16:13, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
With all the due respect, if it is not visible in the image, I think the cat should be removed. Of course when we categorize a statue we may add the cat of the sculptor, even if s/he is not in the image; but this case is like adding "category salt" to a dish image, because it has salt in it. (I know I'm exaggerating, but exaggerating sometimes helps to see things more clearly. :) If you agree with me, please remove the cat. If you don't, then you dont. Ciao. --E4024 (talk) 16:23, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@E4024: . You can find some of this products here for reference : https://www.jd.com/chanpin/2156896.html (酸奶奶干 means dried milk/&sour milk/yogurt, the term is the same for both in chinese). I will add a description on the picture. I see one of the whites one in this page, so it confirm that's also dried yogurt.Popolon (talk) 16:27, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Monuments France 2019

[edit]

Bonjour,

Popolon (talk) 22:19, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Important message for file movers

[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

 • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
 • To perform file name swaps.
 • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
