File:Wilhelminabrug 1945.jpg

Hi, the renaming of this file is incorrect. The old name (File:Sint Servaasbrug 1945.jpg) was correct. Saint Servatius Bridge is in the foreground; Wilhelmina Bridge can only just be seen in the background. Thanks for restoring the correct name. Kleon3 (talk) 20:14, 11 April 2015 (UTC)

  • @Kleon3: yes, I understand. But I can't simply revert this rename by myself. I can only change it for another name again. Do you think that a new name "Sint Servaasbrug en de Wilhelminabrug in 1945" would be OK? Wieralee (talk) 20:38, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
    • Thanks for getting back so quickly. Perhaps "Sint Servaasbrug en Wilhelminabrug (achtergrond) in 1945.jpg" would be better? Also, could you change this one: "Sint-Servaasbrug na restauratie - Maastricht - 20145524 - RCE.jpg". This should be something like "Sint-Servaasbrug na vernieling - Maastricht - 20145524 - RCE.jpg". The picture doesn't show the bridge after restoration but after destruction... Thanks again! Kleon3 (talk) 21:01, 11 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for your renaming of the file File:Carciofi mazzo (cynara scolymus).jpg. I think your idea to add the species name of the plant is good, but the next time pay attention that in biology the right spelling of a species name is one with the first letter of the first word in the upper case (see pl:Binominalne nazewnictwo gatunków). --Tn4196 (debates) 19:54, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

Srbosjek file

[1] You're comparing a forum to United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The file was used from that source and yet named differently??--Rovoobo Talk 08:33, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

  • @Rovoobo: The file does not have to have the same name as those on the source -- it's not obligous to keep exactly the same original name. Other sources tells us that it is a srbosjek. Look here and at other sites in web.
I had declined your rename request because of the searching results. When anybody would be searching a "Srbosjek" on Commons can find nothing although of the fact that we have this knife in our base. Even if it is a colloquial name, it should be preserved to help other people find what they would like. A name "special knife" tells nothing. And, as I see on description -- the formation was called "Ustaše", not "Ustase". Look at File renaming criterions: Files should NOT be renamed only because the filename is not English and/or is not correctly capitalized (Remember, Commons is a multilingual project, so there's no reason to favor English over other languages). Wieralee (talk) 08:52, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
@Wirelee: Allrigh then, we should get in touch with United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and tell them they should be calling it Srbosjek.--Rovoobo Talk 09:00, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

Renaming of files

Hello,
Thank you very much to have rename my files so fast. I've took the habitude to write the name of the ships between quotation marks to separate it of the place and the year of the photos, but i'll try to avoid for next times.
Thank you again for the fast renamings. Good evening--Lev. Anthony (talk) 20:54, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

Category redirects

Hi! You don't have to write on Wikivoyage, I check the talk page here. The category you mentioned is already empty. The template puts everything in the correct category, but it really takes ages before cache updates. Could you perhaps delete the redirected category? That would be the easiest solution. This redirect is not needed. --Alexander (talk) 09:29, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

  • @Atsirlin: thanks for quick answer :-) You'd asked on your user's page to contact you on Wikivoyage, so I did ;-)

Unknown lady, formerly known as the Countess of Arundel

Hi, You recently declined a rename request for https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Alathea_Talbot,_Countess_of_Arundel_by_Cornelius_Janssen_van_Ceulen_(1619,_priv._coll).jpeg The source for this image is given as http://www.gogmsite.net/new-content/1619-alathea-talbot-countes-2.html which in turn gives the source as angustrumble.blogspot.com/ of 16 March 2012. Angus Trumble was at the time Senior Curator of Paintings and Sculpture at the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven, Connecticut. The image was not sourced from Christie's and the painting is at the Yale Center for British Art, not in a private collection - see http://collections.britishart.yale.edu/vufind/Record/1671319. Would you reconsider the rename request? Rjm at sleepers (talk) 11:22, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

If you are absolutely sure that the picture doesn't come from this source -- correct the source and put the {{rename}} template inside the file again. Wieralee (talk) 11:34, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
The image does indeed come from the indicated site, but there is a misunderstanding about the original source which is http://angustrumble.blogspot.co.uk/search?q=arundel. The page heading on the Grand Ladies web site correctly records that a version of this painting was sold at Christie's; this image is not it. I am 100% sure since previously the Christie's web site carried images from earlier auctions and when I looked at the auction catalogue image there was a noticeable difference. The painting shown in this image is on display at the Yale Center for British Art. Rjm at sleepers (talk) 12:24, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

Crystal Clear icons

Hello Wieralee, I've probably done a mistake in categorie-move because there are really exist an icon-theme withe name "Crystal SVG", but the creator of this has not mentioned anything. So let us together see what is to do. There seems a lot of confusion and mess there in category sort (because this: * - Altorught this version is known as "SVG", the icons are still in PNG format, the SVG files will be relased once the support for the format improves in KDE.). So I suggest to create a new Category: Crystal SVG 1.0 (with PNGs also!). PS: But it seems after the description of Category:SVG Crystal Clear icons they are all sorted in other cates...User: Perhelion (Commons: = crap?) 11:56, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

    • Hey don't hurry I know. ;-) This was because the server lag and cache. So I waited 1 day for this to see the real sort. I think now the cate-move was fully right. Have a nice day too, go head. :-)User: Perhelion (Commons: = crap?) 12:22, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

Rename etc.

Hi Wieralee,

In reaction to your rename declination:

I'm not even going to read Commons:File_renaming, sorry - too much text.

And I'm not going to contact James Lindsey every time I request a rename on one of the images that have been copied from his website to Commons. I have contacted James many, many times in the past, either directly as a result of finding errors on his pages or when running into misidentified images here on Commons and I will do so from time to time in the future. James is fine fellow and his website is very useful, and this is by no means intended criticism on James (I really appreciate all the effort he put in to his site!) but there are simply too friggin' many wrong IDs on it and I'm not hired to correct it all. I must have corrected hundreds of wrong IDs of images from his site over time and I simply will not take the time to write a friendly e-mail each and every time.

If Commons cares to handle his wish correctly he should simply be notified automagically when his images are renamed here. As a general rule: Create some automation for it, but don't expect people who put in time to improve the IDs on Commons to waste even more time by requiring them to contact off-site authors. That's simply not going to happen and certainly not as a requirement. Decide what you want: Quick renaming suggestions or none. Cheers Pudding4brains (talk) 18:05, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

File:Hat museum exterior courtyard 6465.JPG‎ revert?

What did I miss? Wellington Mill, Stockport is the name of the building the Hat Works Museum is the current occupant- surely the building takes precedent over the occupant? Perhaps both are needed. I have known this mill since I was a child- only in the last 20 years has it had anything to do with the other industry.

There are others in this group that need reverting.

But thanks for the great job you are doing -- ClemRutter (talk) 11:10, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Percolators

On en.wiki:
Since both percolator and drip brewing were available and popular in the North American market throughout the 20th century, there is little confusion in the United States and Canada between these methods. However, moka pots have only recently become readily available in that market; and vendors and customers alike often group moka pots with percolators, despite the fact that the two types of devices use different brewing mechanics. At least this and this could be renamed since there are spelling mistakes (coffe_ and perculator).--Carnby (talk) 19:42, 12 May 2015 (UTC)

  • @Carnby: I understand your point of view. I rather thought that more descriptive names shouldn't be changed into more general... And the intention of the author is weighty: an uploader's request is all-important. We can change the name, but if the uploader would not like it, he can always change it... And some of those photos illustrate wiki articles about percolators... So it's complicated.
Think about it, please. If you put the rename template inside it again -- I would not decline. Maybe you would succeed ;-)

Thanks. I've now uploaded most of the extant chapters. If you can review and rename accordingly? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 08:38, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

  • @ShakespeareFan00: yes, of course, but I have a little bit problem: I don't know the new names... I see that each chapter has another date and another description, so I'm not sure? Would it be enough "UK Traffic Signs Manual - Chapter 4", "UK Traffic Signs Manual - Chapter 7", etc? Wieralee (talk) 08:46, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
In short , yes. In long, Description field should be used as the basis of the file name ... It is so that it makes it clear this is the UK version (veruss Eire, Hong Kong, Gibraltar etc..) and the date (because documents like this tend to be revised). ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 08:49, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Sorting related renames

Hi, I see that you have declined a series of requested renames such as this one where filenames are harmonised to not begin with numbers. Your stated reason: "rename request declined: does not comply with renaming guidelines: files should NOT be renamed only because the new name looks a bit better or the filename is not correctly capitalized" does not address the issue at all. The rename is not for cosmetic reasons, but for practical ones as my edit message states: "Harmonise filenames - move numerals to the end which ensures that these photos don't hog the start of the category". I'm not sure if your interface notes the edit message as well. Please advise. Thanks. --Cpt.a.haddock (talk) 17:26, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

  • @Cpt.a.haddock: you gave a reason "File renaming criterion #3: To correct obvious errors in file names, including misspelled proper nouns, incorrect dates, and misidentified objects or organisms.". What is this obvious error? A change from "VikramShila" into "Vikramshila"? These files should be renamed, I agree. But the new name should be more descriptive, for example "Vikramshila, main gate" or "Vikramshila, ruins of the palace", or "Vikramshila, ruins of barracks". It should not be a change of one bad capitalized letter only. Maybe these files should be renamed by a person who knows this place better? Wieralee (talk) 18:39, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
  • Oh, I see what I've done wrong. I thought I was choosing the "harmonize the file names of a set of images" reason which is 4 rather than 3. I see now that there's also an "optional text" option for the rename template. I will use it from here on in. Yes, I agree that all these filenames could use more descriptive titles (although finding someone knowledgeable enough to do so for this site is asking a lot). However, in the meantime, I just don't want to see category pages clustered with multiple files beginning with 001 at the start, then 002, and so on. This leads to poorly named files all hogging the top/first page of the category. Poorly named photographs are often also poorly taken photographs. If you agree and are able to proceed with the requested changes even after declining them, please do so. Else, I'll queue fresh rename requests with the correct reason. Thanks :) --Cpt.a.haddock (talk) 19:00, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll rename them again taking better care of the red tape this time :) (FWIW, other rename-admins have approve other similar requests of mine before. Might be a grey area.) Cheers. --Cpt.a.haddock (talk) 20:45, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

Mainzer Dom

@ Wieralee, thank you very much, but I am not satisfied, as with "Mainz Luftbild Mainzer Dom - der bischöfliche Hohe Dom zu Mainz am Höfchen, 2008.jpg" still more than half of the filename is redundant or abundant:

  • The essential elements are:
    • Mainz OR Mainzer ("Mainz" is the city and "Mainzer" means "of Mainz")
    • Luftbild (the German word for aerial photo)
    • Dom (a German word for cathedral). There is only one cathedral in Mainz. The term "der bischöfliche Hohe Dom zu Mainz am Höfchen" tells something like "the episcopal noble cathedral at the small court". It does not make the filename more exact, and it does not prevent confusions with other possible photos.

Adding year to file name

Hello and thank you for all your help! As I think youv'e seen, since I communicated on my talk page with User:Charlik about it in April, I am now trying to rename all the Southerly Clubs donations that I feel need renaming, having been asked by their Board of Directors to do so. This work, according to my plan, includes consistently and uniformly adding the year which pertains to a file to its name, if it's missing there. You have done this for me without any problems, but another user is refusing to let me add years and claims it is against the guidelines. Here's an exampple. I can't find that in any guideine and am asking for your help. In one case, so far, you approved adding the year to a cropped version of the same file that the other user refused to add the year to. Seems sort of silly to me. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 19:02, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

@SergeWoodzing: ✓ Done I've renamed those files and I wrote a letter to this user. It's a missunderstanding there, that's all. Sometimes it's your fault, too. You can't use Criterion #2 for adding informations to the name. Criterion #2 is for bad names: for example you have a flower on the photo, but the name is "A bird".(bad example) a rose on the photo, but the name is "a flower".
In situations when you add some more information to a correct name, you should use Criterion #4.
Hope it would be all right now :-) Wieralee (talk) 19:46, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
Thank you! I very much appreciate your help and your advice. All Southerly Clubs images have been uploaded by Emil Eikner or by me. Eikner turned his work over to me when he retired from all Wikimedia projects a few years ago. That's why I (mistakenly) used #1 for all of them when starting out on this renaming project. I will use #4 for his uploads from now on. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 19:53, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
I copied in "Reason: File:Back Lisa Andersson folks at Stora Tuna grave 1993.jpg" by mistake on a few move requests just now, but of course I meant "As per User talk:SergeWoodzing#Southerly Clubs Image Archives" as uaual. Trying to correct that, I now find the "move" option removed from all the images. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 22:39, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

Here's a pending move where we'd like the correct pageant name adjusted. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 00:08, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
  • @SergeWoodzing: yes, I see it. It waits for hours... I know. But I don't understand the new name "Miss David Pageant"??? Is it a woman? Sounds incredible... I'm not alone: there are many filemovers, but nobody decided to rename this file. It seems to be strange for all of us ;-) Wieralee (talk) 00:12, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
It was a beauty pageant for female impersonators arranged by David Magazine's Miami branch and was called the "Miss David Pageant". --SergeWoodzing (talk) 00:19, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
Here I explained that we'll be adding more posters & would like them to sort in sequence: poster 1973, poster 1974 etc, and that's why I'd like "poster" before the year.
And here I tried to explain that the group also did other F.U.S.I.A. shows on that tour, not just Wild Side Story. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 00:28, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
  • @SergeWoodzing: look at files linking to this file: it had got such a name -- and it's a redirection there, then other name -- and the next redirection... it had 3 names --- and you want to rename it again... It waited for rename many hours -- and nobody decided to manipulate with this files again. It's too complicated now. Too many versions.
But look at the browser. All redirections are working, and it's easy to find this.
You can put the template again... Maybe someone would risk the next nenaming... But not me ;-) Wieralee (talk) 00:37, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
Which one do you mean, the poster or the tour group? --SergeWoodzing (talk) 00:39, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
I am acting for the original uploader in all this work. 2 of your declines are not important to me, but the other 2 I think I've explained and motived well enough above here. I don't mean to be a pain, and please don't forget how much I appreciate your amazing speed and efficient help with all this! --SergeWoodzing (talk) 00:51, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

Category:Baja California Peninsula could you revert the move to Category:Baja California peninsula? In English Wikipedia all peninsulas that have the term in the name have it in upper case. This seems also to be true for peninsulas in Commons. Eldizzino (talk) 21:15, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

  • @Eldizzino: it was a requested move, look here. It is a special procedure when sb wants to move a category -- and anybody can stop this writing in discussion an oppose. Nobody did it, so the move came true. If you want to have this category back, put a "move" template with a good explanation inside it -- and wait at least 14 days. If there would be no opposes, the move can be done. Wieralee (talk) 21:43, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

Uploader's name "Travelarz" is included in the name of every file below. Meanwhile, the name of the auto show (where the photos were taken) is not mentioned. MotoShow 2015 should replace the name of uploader, i.e. MotoShow 2015 instead of Travelarz. Thanks in advance:

and more... Also, thank you very much for all the wonderful work you do fixing bad names. Pozdrawiam, Poeticbent talk 06:10, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

  • @Poeticbent: I've asked more experienced person. His answer is: A lot of users including the username in the filename. I think the uploader should add (for new uploads) "by $username".

About Etienne de la Boétie. Thank you.

Don't upload image from web, please. People often publish false images on the web. About Etienne de la Boétie, there is no portrait. Thank you.

I put a photo I'd found in web, because it was the same situation: the old photo of "Etienne de la Boétie" turned out to be a photograph of another person File:Jacques, comte de Caylus.jpg. I believe, that the image of Etienne de la Boétie does not exist, but can you give a source to such an information? There're many sites on different wikis to correct. It would be nice to have a proof.
Thanks for a call. Have a nice day :-) Wieralee (talk) 12:21, 4 July 2015 (UTC)

declined renaming request.

Hey Wieralee, I was never requesting what I have requested and you declined before. But I think I have a good Reason User:MajaMess is a student of mine and uploaded File:HTTP_Poster_Maja_DSA.png after I gave her feedback on her work she uplloaded a new version under a new filename called File:PosterTemplateDSAGimpFINAL.svg. I would have loved to merge the two files wie a good file name (like the first one) and an svg format since the second name is not really a good one. Also I thought it makes sense to have hersion controll and history of the files all together. --Renepick (talk) 15:14, 5 July 2015 (UTC)

  • @Renepick: I understand. But I can't find why the file can't be just called "HTTP Hypertext Transfer Protocol.svg" or something like that? Why want you have a completely incomprehensible name? The content should be easy to find in browser for all people, not only for you two... Maybe someone else can benefit this file to illustrate his own project?
Think about it. I suggest a better name selection. Maybe both files should be renamed? But the decision is your's :-)
Put a rename template again, write a new name and a reason in a few words. If it would be sensible, it would be renamed in a few minutes, like other files. Your request was strange, so no-one of filemovers decided to rename it.
Good luck! Wieralee (talk) 15:28, 5 July 2015 (UTC)
Hey Wirealee I completely agree on the naming I wanted to do one step at a time first merge the files and then with my students in the classroom work on naming. We are currently working remote preparing the summerschool and my students (between 15 and 18 years old) have no experience with wikis whatsoever. So the namings are all a little bit unusaualThe reason why we use wikiversity and commons is in particular that those teaching materials get reused and other people can benefit from it. I think the problem is that I don't know exactly how to merge files on commons. I thought you just rename one file to the name of the other (at least that was what I found while searching on commons for an answer to this question). If there is a better way or process, please explain it to me I am more than willing to adapt to it. currently I was just not aware of something else --Renepick (talk) 15:36, 5 July 2015 (UTC)
  • @Renepick: The categories should be in English, but the files can have their own names in many languages. You can choose a German name.
You can overwrite the file without the name changing (on the bottom of the file site) => Dateiversionen => Eine neue Version dieser Datei hochladen
or you can keep both -- and rename them, for example "HTTP Hypertext Transfer Protocol 01.svg", 02, 03, 04, ... final.
Remember, that file name should describe the content of the file in a best way, to help other people to find and use it. That's all :-) Wieralee (talk) 15:51, 5 July 2015 (UTC)
@Wieralee: should I ask the question about merging in the village pump? --Renepick (talk) 22:09, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
  • As for the category I know the name has some german inside but I have been told I should call it wikiversity-class and then add the germen title of the class into the cateogory name (which in my opinion makes sense) I am willing to switch to an english name for the category if this would be more wellcome on common
  • @Renepick: As a general rule: the files on the Commons can have names in all languages of the world, but the categories should be in English.
Of course, there are exceptions ... but to avoid many unnecessary explanations in the future, it's better to create categories in English.
That's my advice. But the decision is yours ;-) Wieralee (talk) 22:00, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
yeah I see the general rule of thumb and go completely with it. I think the case of a wikiversity class might be a good exception. anyway thanks a lot for your help and advice. For me ther processes in commons are much more confusing than wikipedia or wikiversity. --Renepick (talk) 22:09, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
  • @Renepick: You can always ask on Village pump, but I think it's not necessary. The best way to get help is to contact a friendly admin who is talking in your native language ;-) Look at the List of administrators by language. Choose one man/woman an write to him/her (I recommend Steinsplitter, Didym, Hedwig in Washington, or Túrelio, but there're many other friendly Deutsch admins). I can't help you with merging files - I haven't got the appropriate rights.
You are always welcome. Wieralee (talk) 22:30, 12 July 2015 (UTC)

Hello, if you don't understand a categorization, please do not just move all files from a sub-category into a non-specific super-category without asking first. Notarzteinsatzfahrzeuge are a special type of ambulances, and as such a special type of emergency vehicle. Undoing a cat-a-lot like this is a lot of (unnecessary) work. --Sebari (talk) 13:28, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

1) you can make it easy for one click using "Cat-a-lot" gadget. But if you prefere to do it manually, it's your choice.
2) There is a rule: The category names should be in English.
3) I didn't move the category, I only moved files, because the redirected categories should be empty.
4) I think that reverting my editions was a mistake - this was not consistent with the principles of Commons. Look at Commons:Language policy. Wieralee (talk) 13:37, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
Using cat-a-lot would not be possible, since each image had to be reviews individually. Not all files in Category:Emergency service vehicles of Germany belong into Category:Notarzteinsatzfahrzeuge in Germany. I would be fine with renaming the category to an English equivalent, but Category:Emergency service vehicles of Germany is too broad. --Sebari (talk) 14:33, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
I completely agree with User:Srittau and explained it on my talk page. --Indeedous (talk) 17:36, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
Maybe we should think about a discussion process for batch-moving of files. Especially Srittau and I had weeks or months of work to categorize the files properly and you crushed our work with one click without even talking to us. That's not fair and that's unnecessary. --Indeedous (talk) 17:39, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
  • @Indeedous: talk to User:Zwiadowca21. It was his decision. I'm only emptying redirected categories, because they should be empty. Files in redirected categories are hidden, nobody can see them.
Instead of this, I think it's not good when an administrator is acting against the Commons rules. The category names should be in English, that's all. Wieralee (talk) 18:20, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
Acting against the commons rules? Read Commons:Language policy first and edit than. Category names should generally be in English, excepting some of proper names, biological taxa and terms which don't have an exact English equivalent. Should does not mean must, as Commons is a multilingual project. If you can explain the exact English equivalents of Notarztwagen, Notarzteinsatzfahrzeug, Rettungswagen, Krankentransportwagen, Intensivtransportwagen, First Responder and so on, we can continue our discussion. Until then you're just creating a mess without the knowledge needed. Furthermore it is nonsense that it was not your decision. Of course it was. You are right that redirected categories have to be empty, but those were not redirected categories but categories where someone put a template inside that doesn't belong there. Templates don't substitute thinking. --Indeedous (talk) 00:22, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Towarzystwo Wydawnicze Rój logo.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Zmiana nazwy kategorii

Mam prośbę o zmianę nazwy kategorii: Meadows in Poland] i wszystkich jej podkategorii (Meadows in the Gorce itd.). Słowo meadows w języku angielskim oznacza łąkę, tymczasem we wszystkich tych podkategoriach polskich pliki dotyczą polan.

Wieralee (talk) 15:03, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
  • @Selso: ✓ Done, zrobiłam, co mogłam, patrz Category:Glades in Poland.
Teraz określenia są właściwe (Glades in the ...). Pozdrawiam. Selso (talk) 20:18, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

AS350s

Hi - Since you seem to be an experienced user I presume you have some reason for emptying the corresponding category. It is considered courteous to bring this up for discussion and provide notice on the category discussion page, or at least provide an explanation. If I guess right and this reflects some renaming of the product line by the manufacturer I am not sure it is our policy to recategorize the photos. The aircraft remain what they were; the new name is at best a synonym. In my view this could better be handled with subcategories or cross-references. It is a question of verifiability and convenience for users.Dankarl (talk) 02:48, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

I'm not renaming the categories. I'm only cleaning redirected categories, because they should be empty. When they are not, some files are hidden, sometimes for many, many years... Many users move categories, but they don't move their containment. So somebody have to do this...
I'm renaming files, too. But it's always a User's request. If the request is correct, I'm renaming. Sorry, it's impossible for filemovers to check anything essentially -- if rename looks sensible and doesn't look like a vandalism -- we are following the request.
I want to help you, but I don't understand what you mean... Answer me, please.
Thanks in advance, Wieralee (talk) 08:41, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

P.S. @Dankarl: I've found it. You reverted my editions. Ok, but look at the effect: Category:Airbus_Helicopters_AS350_Ecureuil. Nobody can see files in this category, because it's a redirection to Category:Airbus Helicopters H125 Écureuil there. Nobody can see this files -- users are redirected to other category and don't see the files in redirected category. Look here. You should talk to User:Ariadacapo who has managed this movement. Wieralee (talk) 08:55, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
Sorry for jumping the gun - I should have looked to see who set the redirect. My first thought was that it was simply confusion of identity of the aircraft; I rechecked the identification and reverted. Then I checked the destination category and found it full of AS350s. Then I checked the source category. Usually when a category is to be deleted the move is handled by a bot which sets a link to the discussion. Finding no such link, I complained, obviously now to the wrong person. I don't edit so much anymore and the habits erode with disuse.Dankarl (talk) 02:24, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

Women vs females

I noticed a few of your changes, such as these

What is your criteria, I wonder. Neither of these can be said not to be a woman in any practical capacity. -- Tuválkin 22:13, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

@Tuvalkin: that's why the existence of two different categories was not necessary and Yanguas put them together. I thought it was resonable and I'd helped him. If I did something wrong, accept my apology, please. Wieralee (talk) 22:21, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
Yanguas’s idea was not consesual, as as you can see, it was reverted by an admin. Category "Females", meaning "Human females", do includes "Women", but also "Girls". The two above are women, and should be categorized as such when possible. And it is (again). (Yanguas should bring the matter to a centralized discussion point, if he thinks he’s right.) -- Tuválkin 00:17, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
@Tuvalkin: I would revert my editions. Will it be OK? Wieralee (talk) 00:21, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
I think so, yes. -- Tuválkin 00:23, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

What's wrong

I came across this professional image, but the problem is that almost all of the information included here is irrelevant. I removed the description part, as I thought it was not about this picture. The picture, as you see, shows a Tasbih in hand of a man, while the title is about a mosque (I requested a name change, however). Also, the source is not accessible and the license is not determined to be true. Mhhossein (talk) 12:55, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

  • @Mhhossein: I've found it on flickr, but the licence was "All rights reserved". I've reported copyvio.
It's a pity, because it is a very good photo :( Wieralee (talk) 16:07, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
Is there anyway to keep it? Mhhossein (talk) 16:37, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
  • @Mhhossein: Free license can't be taken back... But in this case I don't know if this photo had originally a free license. TinyEye shows 182 uses, but no one is older than flickr upload. But I'm not a Commons expert ;-) We'll see. Wieralee (talk) 16:51, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
Good “news” is that this is maked with {{User:FlickreviewR/reviewed-pass|james_gordon_losangeles|http://flickr.com/photos/79139277@N08/7436175878|2012-10-29 01:54:59|cc-by-2.0|}}, which means that, unless there was a mistake with FlickreviewR, it was once cc-by-2.0 and later, after 2012.10.29, the author (or someone with access to his Flickr account) changed it to a.r.r. — but, as Wieralee said, licenses are not revocable.

Ciao.
I was still working on files that have been uploaded . If you move them it takes me more time to categorize them. There are many old files to fix... By. --Discanto (talk) 23:41, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

  • @Discanto: If you upload files without a category, they come to a common category "Media needing categories" --- and all of us are trying to categorize them as well as possible. We'll not stop working...
You can make your own Category for your new uploads, for example Category:Files uploaded by User:Discanto or Category:Files uploaded by User:Discanto needing categories as subcategory of Category:User categories --- so your uploads will not get into "Media needing categories" folders and the problem would be solved...
Have a nice day ;-) Wieralee (talk) 11:04, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

Commons:Zmiana nazw plików

  • OK.

I'm sorry. Pozdrawiam .HaB >talk< 03:23, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

Hello :-)
Why not a "Billeder af nordens", as in the source? Wieralee (talk) 10:13, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

"Billeder af Nordens flora" (Danish-Norwegian book) is based on "Bilder ur Nordens flora" the Swedish book, but these are to different books. I accidentally uploaded it as "File:Bilder ur Nordens Flora 463, Aira praecox - clean.png" and realized my mistake later. So, although the two books use the same plant illustrations and plate numbers, the plates are different and a file redirect does not apply in my opinion. Category:Concelho of Silves

You have moved the category Concelho (municipality) of Silves into the category Silves. There should be a distinct difference between the two categories. Category: Silves should be a deposit for photos of the town of Silves. The Category:Concelho of Silves should be a place to find files relating to settlements within the municipality of Silves, some of which are some distance from the town of Silves and really do not need to be in the single Silves category. I don't think that the situation you have created and the way you think it should be organized will help anyone to find files pertaining to a specific settlement with in the municipality of Silves as they are scatted across, and amongst other unrelated Categories within the Silves page.Kolforn (talk) 16:13, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

  • @Kolforn: look at the history [2] the category was moved by User:Tm. He'd moved the Category:Concelho of Silves to the Category:Silves and has left the files in redirected categories, so they were hidden... Files in redirected categories can't be seen by anybody. So I've moved files after the movement of the main category.
You have to discuss with User:Tm, he should give you an explananation. Wieralee (talk) 17:59, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

I was surprised when I saw over 1400 images in this category: So many pictures in one monthly issue? And how did you identify them all so fast, when it takes me around 10 min. to check each image of this batch? Then I noticed that you merely moved these all off from Category:1891 books, mislead by the filename and the somewhat incorrect date in each file (showing, out of necessity, the founding year of the serial, not the issue date, let alone the taken-on date for photos — pinging ). So instead of 1400 crudely categorized files (images from any issue of a magazine of which its full collection in one bound volume can be argued to be a 1891 book), we now have 1400 files wrongly categorized (most of them were not published in issue 1 of vol. 1)… -- Tuválkin 11:32, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

  • I have just adapted my housekeeping task. If you just leave all the files in that category for another day (ETA 26 hours to complete), they will gradually have volume numbers added. This looks like diff. You can then use the normal search engine to find volumes like this and use cat-a-lot to sort them out.
All files are gradually being checked for volume numbers, it's just a *very* slow job. -- (talk) 11:47, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
That’s a good solution, , thanks, and 26 h seems like a pittance compared to the total time needed to work on these tram images — themselves a sand grain in the Sahara-like vastness of the whole. -- Tuválkin 15:41, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
  • @Tuvalkin: yes, I know. I have got my private list with subcategories needing to be cleaned up manually. I'm keen on books -- and I regard "Books by year" categories very personally. I hope I would be able to clean the "Books by year" categories first, to make them useable -- and I will clean the subcategories needing manually work next. But I would not leave them without tidying them up. Wieralee (talk) 14:51, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
I see your point. Maybe all this would be slightly better for all of us if instead "YEAR books" this would be in "YEAR magazines", and diffused from there? -- Tuválkin 15:41, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
  • @Tuvalkin: I think if it is good to divide the category for single magazines: the upload was mixed up and it is very difficult to find the number of the magazine. But it is very easy to find the annual volume, for example we can easy find:
Volume 1 (1891) => bookid:streetrailwayrev01amer (73 files)
Volume 2 (1892) => bookid:streetrailwayrev02amer (100 files)
Volume 3 (1893) => bookid:streetrailway03amer (107 files)
Volume 4 (1894) => bookid:streetrailwayrev04amer (69 files)
Volume 5 (1895) => bookid:streetrailwayrev05amer (82 files)
Volume 6 (1896) => bookid:streetrailwayrev06amer (73 files)
Volume 7 (1897) => bookid:streetrailwayrev07amer (86 files)
Volume 8 (1898) => bookid:streetrailwayrev08amer (87 files)
Volume 9 (1899) => bookid:streetrailwayrev09amer (80 files)
Volume 10 (1900) => bookid:streetrailwayrev10amer (61 files)
Volume 11 (1901) => bookid:streetrailwayrev11amer (93 files)
Volume 12 (1902) => bookid:streetrailwayrev12amer (107 files)
Volume 13 (1903) => bookid:streetrailwayrev13amer (98 files)
Volume 14 (1904) => bookid:streetrailwayrev14amer (149 files)
Volume 15 (1905) => bookid:streetrailwayrev15amer (91 files)
= 1356 files
Volume 16 (1906) => bookid:streetrailwayrev161amer (54 files)-- Tuválkin 15:57, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
When you move them from the 1400 files category, it would be 44 files to review manually.

Okay, all done. I’ll take it from here, guys. Wieralee, I really think these should be allowed a bit of COM:OVERCAT and have under the category for the magazine both issue categories and volume categories, even though the latter also are subcats of the former. -- Tuválkin 23:37, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
  • @: can you help us and remove by your bot from this 1400 files category all this 1356 files mentioned above? Wieralee (talk) 21:37, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
    Not sure what is being asked for. Do you want me to stop the housekeeping task? BTW, you can move the files around without worrying about the task, volume numbers will eventually get filled in even if missed at the moment. -- (talk) 21:55, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
  • @: In category "The Street Railway Review (Vol. 1, No. 1. January 15, 1891.)‎" there were 1400 files (1100 now).
In categories from "Volume 1" to "Volume XV" we have 1356 files. It would be fine to remove those 1356 files (1056 now) from category "The Street Railway Review (Vol. 1, No. 1. January 15, 1891.)‎" and find these 44 files. Wieralee (talk) 22:00, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi, as a long term colleague on upload projects, I thought I'd drop you a personal heads-up for my request for adminship, today being the last day for views. Polepa

Hmm no tak, polepy używano do ścian.

Jeżeli uploader nadał nazwę w języku polskim, to widocznie chciał, by jego pliki miały nazwę w języku polskim (np. Łódzka Gazownia, ul. Kasztanowa, itd.).

hi :) i don't have add this terms in remaned request, i leave all name like before renamed. I have request only '' to indicate second millennium (like ' for indicate first millenium) because only 15 don't seem nothing. Can i upload file with "italian dream" name? Or this is not good? I have see many pics with this eufenism. Thank you --Pava (talk) 19:05, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

Ok thank you. For the next time I avoid names emphatic and keep a neutral point of view. But I like that my files are at the top, I want to keep the "15. If the Regulation does not prohibit it, and if this is not a violation of community. I want to keep it (in my category, for example, that of photos taken by me, it's all nice tidy thanks to this storage). Anyway thanks a lot of aid from now on I avoid any sentence not neutral :) you're right actually does not add any real information, then I will avoid any adjective staff :) tell me if you have other signs huh, I always do everything possible to improve the quality, now categorize really meticulously, I lose much time for each photo and then I'm sorry if the work is weight. Do you like my pics? my work? --Pava (talk) 07:09, 4 October 2015 (UTC)

Hello, quick request

I think it should be moved to "English: Two daughters of Louis XIV of France and Madame de Montespan showing Francoise Marie de Bourbon, "Mademoiselle de Blois" (1677-1749) future Duchess of Orléans with her older sister Louise Francoise de Bourbon, "Mademoiselle de Nantes" future Duchess of Bourbon (1673-1743) by Philippe Vignon".

Hello, I have tried to request a move on an image but the template really seems to hate me. This image is just to the side. I request it as the image is of sisters one of whom was known as "Mademoiselle de Blois prior to her marriage. Her actual name was Francoise Marie and the uploader seems to have got the two mixed up in a strange way. Plus I think it's important for images, especially paintings to have the artists name in the title for quick reference. I was wondering if you'd move it on my behalf?

Thanks anyway. But just thought I'd say.

Simplegoose (talk) 21:24, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

  1. "Portrait of Francoise-Marie de Bourbon and Louise-Francoise de Bourbon by Philippe Vignon" (as here [5]) -- or
  2. "The sisters Mademoiselle de Blois and Mademoiselle de Nantes by Philippe Vignon" (as in en.wiki).
The name is not so important... The searching machine is searching in file descriptions, too.
Which version do you like best? Wieralee (talk) 22:11, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

Yes that is probably a tiny bit to long. Yes instead I vote ""The sisters Mademoiselle de Blois and Mademoiselle de Nantes by Philippe Vignon". Simplegoose (talk) 23:04, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

Re:File:Itzam K'an Ahk II.svg

  • 1.Wrzuciłem bitmapę do Inkspace, kliknąłem prawy przycisk myszki i wektoryzuj bitmapę, można tutaj pobawić sie w ustawienie wartości.

Thank you for fixing the categories on those pages

I just wanted to say thanks for categorizing those pages for me. I meant to do it but I couldn't figure out how to use the Cat a lot tool yet. I guess I need to learn that one. Reguyla (talk) 19:47, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

  • @Reguyla: using "cat-a-lot" you have to remember a few things:
• you have to switch it on in preferences
• you have to mark files you wish (into green) by clicking on the name (but not on the letters)
• "move" and "remove" option works only in category where the file currently is
• "copy" works anywhere, but it adds next categories only.
Good luck! Wieralee (talk) 19:53, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the notes. I'll try and use that later. Reguyla (talk) 19:54, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

Category renaming

Hey there, I'm sorry for this but after reading the appropriate guideline I was under the (wrong) impression that, since the operation is not trivial, adding {{Category redirect}} with the appropriate parameters would add the category in a list of categories to be moved. What should I do to rename (move) the category without having to edit the category in every single image? Thanks :) --WikiKiwi 17:00, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

  • @WikiKiwi: There's not such possibility. After the movement of the category, files have to be moved, too. You can use the Cat-a-lot gadget or ask for Bot help -- or wait. In a few days it will be fixed. But be careful in moving categories... it is suggested to use {{rename}} template and wait at least 14 days for discussion. If there will be no opposes, you can move it. See the Category:Kennyo monk category for example. Wieralee (talk) 17:07, 26 October 2015 (UTC)
I know it's a delicate thing, but just check out every other wiki: the festival effectively changed name (because the korean city hosting it changet its international name) so there's no debate over the new name :) I'll try and move the cat as soon as I have time, thanks! --WikiKiwi 19:14, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

Evening! The only reason I insist on having such details in filename titles is so that the information in the title can be translated by the user into the necessary language. It's just to be helpful. Simplegoose (talk) 22:21, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Oooooooooooooohhhhhhhh, ok, just thought I was being helpful lol. Simplegoose (talk) 23:28, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

viccino -> vicino

Hello Wieralee, thanks for your message. I saw the file was renamed goodly correcting "viccino" into "vicino" as I asked. For "panoramio" firstly I thought it was a mispelled word because it is written "panoramio" instead of "Panoramio", that is to say it was not written with a capital letter "P" (sometimes used for website names) but with a small letter. Sorry and have a good day! Regards. --Sarvaturi (talk) 11:47, 30 October 2015 (UTC)

Wieralee (talk) 19:16, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
6AND5 (talk) 19:32, 3 November 2015 (UTC)

Hallo Wieralee,

--Gazouya-japan (talk) 15:54, 8 November 2015 (UTC)

Możesz to uporządkować, proszę? --WTM (talk) 16:57, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Możesz też użyć szablonu {{rename|nowa nazwa|numer kryterium|słowne wyjaśnienie}} Numer kryterium znajdziesz na stronie Commons:File_renaming. Możesz uzasadnić wszystko po polsku, wtedy wniosek rozpatrzy ktoś z Polaków. Jeśli jesteś przesyłającym plik, używaj kryterium nr 1, uploaderzy mają specjalne przywileje.
I oczywiście, zawsze możesz do mnie napisać, pomogę, na ile będę mogła ;-) Miłego dnia :-) Wieralee (talk) 17:06, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

No fancy names?

RE: File:What's in a name^ - geograph.org.uk - 94871.jpg –– Which part of the guideline did this request not comply with? It's a trivial fix, the upload process from Geograph has inadvertantly changed a "!" into a "^" when creating the filename. I've had other files renamed for the same thing without any problem, so it's not at all clear to me why you turned this down. PC78 (talk) 00:15, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

  • @PC78: read Commons:File naming, please. Commons is a multimedia magazine for all Wikipedia and its sister projects. Materials that do not have encyclopaedic or educational character are removed. That is why the names should be factual. I think this file should have another name, for example "Timbobbin Farm in Lathom.jpg" (if it is the real address of this farm), -- or another name like that. Wieralee (talk) 00:26, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

You do not seem to know the difference between moths and lepidoptera ?

Hello Your note on my talk page: You do not seem to understand that there is a difference between MOTHS and LEPIDOPTERA ; Moths is more specific. Lepidoptera include both: Moths and Butterflies.

So, kindly, just stick to the subjects that you know well, and ignore all others. Thanks. Tonton Bernardo (talk) 15:10, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

And a partridge in a pear tree

(...and a bishop [8]) Hi, indeed, it is Saint Nicholas, the Krampus figures are his entourage in some regions of Germany and Austria. Of course, Saint Nicholas was a bishop, but I wanted to specify this indication (it's not just "a bishop"). Greetings,--Turris Davidica (talk) 19:19, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

  • @Turris Davidica: yes, you are right. The problem is, that many users think such a reason is not good enough to rename the file...Look at my today's talk, for example. If the reason is not really strong, the filemover has problems... You can try to rename it the next time, but wait a week or two. The file is marked as "recently declined" now, so each filemover will be very careful now. Wieralee (talk) 20:08, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for all your renamings :) I think this could be better named just "Il porto di Palermo visto dal mare, 30 ottobre 2011.jpg" (just one of the two mentioned days). Metadata don't lie :) --Formica rufa (talk) 16:12, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

Pierre Schull and the logo of Nanoyg/

Are you sure that the person's name is Pierre Schüll (File:Pierre Schüll con perro.jpg) and not Pierre Schull? All the file names say Pierre Schull or just "Pierre, Espagne" "Pierre, torero" or something like that (except the last two renamed ones now, see Category:Toreros) and also the article in Spanish Wikipedia says Pierre Schull, only the article title says Schüll. He lives in Spain, so it can be that his name is really now Pierre Schull. I'm not sure, if the ü is correct spelling of his name. According to es:Pierre Schüll, his father's name is Jean Léopold Schull (who is born in France) and all his children's names are also Schull and not Schüll. So, how can it be that his name shall not be the same as his father's and his children's names? I doubt that this can be right.

Another question: Do you know, if "Nanoyg logo.jpg" (is this the correct spelling for нано-юг?) or "логотип нано-юг.jpg" would be better names for File:Nanoyg,jpg.jpg? Or should the logo better be deleted? It's not clear, if the user really created it himself, and also, the article about Нано-ю/Nanoyg has been deleted on Russian WP because of being spam, see ru:Обсуждение участника:Gregbor#Ваша статья Нано-юг and ru:Нано-юг. But this logo should not remain on that name. What do you think? Kind regards --Bjarlin (talk) 23:29, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

Also the homepage of Pierre Schull writes his name with u and not with ü. And here also. So the two renamed files are now on names with misspellings, the above one and File:Pierre Schüll y hombros en la calle.jpg. Can you please fix both file names? The article on Spanish WP should also be moved then, by the way. --Bjarlin (talk) 23:49, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

  • @Bjarlin: There is an article here. The title of the article is "Pierre Schüll", too. The article on Spanish wiki is very unprofessional, so it can have typos. Maybe he was using two transcriptions? But I'm not sure for 100%, of course. We'll see. Maybe I should write to the person who takes care of his homepage, to know the truth?
I think Nanoyg logo.jpg is OK. We are trying to not change the languages. When the uploader named it in English, let's keep English. The change of language is the matter of uploader only. Maybe the article was a spam, but such a company exist -- and has its own logo, which can be placed on Commons. If such a company does not exist -- we have a category with fictional logos, too ;-)
Don't worry, if something will be wrong, somebody will fix it. Thanks for your attention. Wieralee (talk) 23:53, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
@Bjarlin: P.S. His granddaughter is Belinda Peregrín Schüll... Wieralee (talk) 00:01, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
Ok, "Nanoyg logo" then. I wasn't sure about the spelling, "нано-юг" looks like Nanoyug to me.
Interesting thing with Pierre Schull/Schüll. Now I've also found a Category:Belinda Peregrín Schull and a gallery Belinda Peregrín Schull with "u", both saying "born Belinda Peregrín Schüll on August 15, 1989", so two different spellings are obviously used for this name, I created two redirects now from "Belinda Peregrín Schüll". Then it may be that both of them are correct. It's often that people try to avoid characters that are not known in the country they're living in. If you want, you can mail to the website and ask, what was his official name. Otherwise, we let it as it is now. :-) A category with redirect for the other spelling would be best for those many files, so that this can be explained there. But shall the category's name be Pierre Schull or Pierre Schüll? ;-) Perhaps better Pierre Schull like on his website. --Bjarlin (talk) 00:31, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
I thought that you had created the Category:Pierre Schull a few days ago. Now I notice that it has been there all the time since begin of Novembre. ;-) Just nearly all the images about him weren't in that category, now they are. And I created a category redirect for the other spelling. I don't know, what you meant with redirects to a photo (that would be file redirects, but no category or gallery redirects go to files, and file redirects are created only automatically by moving files). I just meant category and gallery redirects for the other spellings, when there's an existing category or gallery. Otherwise, people would create double categories or galleries, that would not be good. I think, it can now remain, as it is, if there will be no other insights about the spellings of the names. It's also better to take the spellings for the categories and galleries which are commonly more used and known, or is there another convention for that on Commons?
What do you think about this file: File:Pierre,torero4-1.jpg? I can't see any person or anything else on that file, should it better be deleted? If I'm not mistaken, there's nothing else but a black line, but no photo that could be used. I don't see any use for that. --Bjarlin (talk) 19:57, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
By the way, the uploader of those photos himself seems also to be a person of the Schull family, so he may have more insight in the spelling issue (which I didn't notice before). :-) It seems to be that they call themselves "Schull". --Bjarlin (talk) 20:03, 13 December 2015 (UTC)

File:Pierre Schull, toreando.jpg shows the name "VEGA" at the bottom of the file. It may be a company which has the copyrights, so "own work" is doubtful. Would you start a deletion request or what is best to do with such a file? Maybe, there are other files of the user where the licence and author are also doubtful. I also doubt that files of the 1950s are found in the internet, if they aren't "own work". So what to do? --Bjarlin (talk) 20:57, 13 December 2015 (UTC)

Ok, thanks, I'll show him some other files with other logos upon. Now I've found out that it seems to be the son of Pierre Schull who uploaded the photos. See description of the photo File:Pierre schull1.jpg, author and source there: "foto de mi padre difunto" (which is "photo of my deceased father"). As his heir, he has his copyrights, but it's not clear who made the family photos, surely not his father himself. I suppose, it's a mixture of photos of the family and also others. Photos like File:Pierre Schull, Madrid.jpg look like own work of himself. --Bjarlin (talk) 21:51, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
es:Pierre Schüll#Vida personal: As he is born later than the photos have been taken, he can't have taken one of the photos of the 1950s/1960s himself, he can just have taken the photo File:Pierre Schull, Madrid.jpg himself. So we have a problem there, cause all author informations in all other files (with the uploader as photographer) and all "own work" sources are wrong. :-/ The dates were also all wrong, they were the upload dates and not the dates, when the photos really were taken. If he doesn't provide other information, then I suppose that all other files have to be deleted. --Bjarlin (talk) 22:03, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
  • It is not so obvious. For example: photos published in Poland before 1989 without trademark are not copyrighted and can be published. I don;t know how it was in Spain, and what US law is accepting. Wieralee (talk) 23:00, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
Ok, then let's see, I haven't sound knowledge of Spanish copyright, maybe Alan has, and US law is sometimes really crazy. --Bjarlin (talk) 23:49, 13 December 2015 (UTC)

moving redirect

[10] (fixing the double redirect) You've moved the redirect now a few seconds later. If you want to move the file to this full name, then go on. :-) I didn't want to change too much of the uploader's wish, so I just put in the spaces between the words. The full name looks better, though. -Bjarlin (talk) 19:15, 13 December 2015 (UTC)

  • @Bjarlin: I avoid shortcuts -- they are always meaningless or ambiguous. New uploaders are not aware it's not good for the project, they are thinking only about themselves ;-) Do not bother with making the same rename in almost the same time: sometimes it happens. We have to accept it :-) Wieralee (talk) 19:24, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
Yes, I've seen that before. Especially, when names have to be changed. If it's the same name, it can't happen. So, if the file remains there on File:LCS Tech Info Serv.jpg or not, do it the way that you think is best. I think I'll also try to avoid abbreviations in the future, even if it's the uploaders's wish, it seems to be better this way (and other people can find the file better then). :-) --Bjarlin (talk) 19:31, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
