File:Ispifoney Flag.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

I cannot delete anything on Commons. I nominated the file for deletion because you described it as a flag of an organization. You can draw a flag or a logo but this does not make it your own, and you cannot license it. The administrator who reviewed the file found the argument convincing. You may address the administrator who deleted the file and tell them your arguments. --Abanima (talk) 22:11, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
File:IsraeliSyriarevolution.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Image uploads
[edit]Hi. In your uploads of File:SovietandSyriameeting.jpg, File:RussiaandSyriameeting.jpg, File:Meetingcyprusprisedint.jpg, and File:Unitedeconomicofarableague.jpg, you claim to be the author of these images. Are you intending to claim that you, personally, holding a camera in your hand at these historic events, took these photos at these historic events? If you scanned these photos in out of a book or captured them from a TV show or photographed them at a museum or some such thing, that does NOT make you the copyright holder of the photos. Commons has more restrictive licensing rules than Wikipedia and, though there may be a "fair use" reason to use these images on Wikipedia, Commons does not accept "fair use" images. --UserB (talk) 19:29, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
- The man in the picture is my grandfather,it was given to the family and then to me, So i'm the copyright holder.GhiathArodaki (talk) 20:14, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
- Is that the case for all four of these images? Can you edit the image description pages to say something to that effect - you are the heir of the photographer and the photos are in your personal collection. Thanks. Also, do you have access to a scanner? A couple of them have what looks like a reflection (I guess they are behind glass?). If you take them out from behind the glass and scan them in, you may get better results. --UserB (talk) 22:15, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

- If the man in the photograph is your grandfather, then how can he be the photographer? As this is an official diplomatic event it seems unlikely that he would be taking the photos himself with a tripod. Is it not the case that these are publicity photos released by the Syrian government, or press photos taken by journalists covering the event? —Psychonaut (talk) 17:24, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:YABOOKCOVER.gif
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:YABOOKCOVER.gif. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

[edit]This media was probably deleted.

Thanks for uploading File:The photo of Hassoun Mufti of Syria.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:The photo of Hassoun Mufti of Syria.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

- Do you even read before writing? I asked for evidence that the image is "public domain" as you have claimed. If it is anywhere on the source, then state exactly where, as I didn't find anything. --Túrelio (talk) 16:01, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
First, Don't be complex for a license, It is not Important, Then , The pictures are freely published , download don't download , it's the problem of the site, Every day people download many pictures then publish them, i'm using this to put it on the articles you see, Stop Being complex for a license.GhiathArodaki (talk) 16:04, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
- O.k., I see. You simply do not understand anything about copyright and licensing. Well, no big problem, just stop uploading anything to Commons before you have thoroughly read Commons:Licensing and Commons:CB. The fact that something has been put on a website has absolutely no relevance for the copyright. It is not free because it has been put on a website. --Túrelio (talk) 16:08, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
, Funny , I Understand Better than anyone , Stop Saying that every time, it's old, License is not important,And You can Read Every thing on the website.GhiathArodaki (talk) 16:16, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
- I am afraid if you use Commons for images you must be precise and correct about licensing. Those are the rules here. --Herby talk thyme 16:09, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

- Note that these images were already discussed at #Image uploads above. Back then I was inclined to give the uploader the benefit of the doubt that copyright in the photos had been transferred and inherited. - The author field on these images states: "? grandfather". What's the question mark for? Was/is this person the photographer or did/does he just own copies of the images? We need something a bit more certain than "? grandfather". INeverCry 16:17, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- He is not the photographer , he own the original copies , the author Yahya Arodaki , He had the original copies as it is his photos , copyright was given to him by the photographer, My grandfather is DEAD , all of his pictures were given to the family , The family gave it to me , and now holds both copyright and the pictures.GhiathArodaki (talk) 18:09, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Please stay away from Fry1989's talkpage until the current dispute is resolved. And please go to the COM:AN/U discussion to help resolve it. Thanks. Rd232 (talk) 21:57, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
By the way, about the Yahya Arodaki photos - the main issue is probably copyright was given to him by the photographer. Unfortunately it's quite likely that (a) it was an official photographer and that the copyright wasn't the photographer's to give or (b) the photographer only gave copies of the photos, and not the copyright. The burden is on you to prove your claim, and that may be very hard to do. It would help if you at least proved you have access to the physical prints by uploading a much higher resolution version. You could then try emailing OTRS with as clear an explanation and as much evidence as you can provide. Rd232 (talk) 22:06, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
- PS Depending on date and location of publication, there's an outside chance the photographs might be public domain anyway. Providing those details, if you can find them, would help. Rd232 (talk) 22:07, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
Your talk page question
[edit]I'm from the United States, and I'm not an Arab and not a Jew -- and I have many diverse interests on Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia, as you can see from examining my various history listings and image galleries. I'm a linguist who has studied the Semitic languages, but my ability to actually write or read Arabic is not too great; I only started editing Arabic Wikipedia back around 5 years ago as an experiment, and because some important articles (such those for many national flags) were then either completely missing or pathetically thin. I had to change from "User:An-Namuus" to "User:AnonMoos", when Single Unified Login came in, and about that time I reached the limits of my Arabic-language abilities and my abilities to understand and deal with the various personal politics there, so I don't edit on Arabic Wikipedia anymore. Still, if you could tell me what the Arabic for "Naval jack" is (something I've never been able to find in any dictionary), I would fix the "Flag of the United States" article there... State religions
[edit]I have reverted your changes to File:State Religions Globally.png, File:State Religions.png, File:Secularmap.PNG, and File:Map of state religions.svg, in which you incorrectly claim that Islam is the state religion of Syria, Sudan, and Palestine. Though the 2012 Syrian constitution requires the president to be Muslim, it does not formally establish any religion. The Palestinian Convenant is a secular document which does not refer to Islam at all. While the Interim National Constitution of Sudan allows for implementation of Sharia law in regions where Islam is the majority religion, it expressly acknowledges the multifaith character of Sudan and does not establish any one religion. In the future please do not change such maps without citing a reliable source.
- As you've continued to add these claims without justification, and because of your other recent activity here, I've raised the issues at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems. —Psychonaut (talk) 20:46, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
