Missing permission and very old uploads

[edit]

Please be extremely cautious when tagging very old uploads (i.e. uploaded before 2010) as "No permission", e.g. File:Kvartaline Ubagyno miske, 2005-08-23 resize resize.JPG and File:091003 yobatsuka cross.jpg. At the time, users were not required to fill out a whole information template, so some fields may be missing. Unless they explicitly name a different person as the author or it appears to not be own work for some other reason (note that low resolution or lack of EXIF is not a cause for suspicion on very old uploads), we should assume good faith and look through the history to see what license the uploader originally intended to give. -- King of ♥ 09:45, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also a source is not required in a lot of cases, such as 1) when a user claims that the image is their own work, either by putting their name as the author or by saying in the description that they took the photo; 2) when there is a COM:VRT ticket (File:Zaliv l akrilik na platnu 80x80cm.jpg); 3) when a logo is clearly too simple to be eligible for copyright protection; etc. In these cases, feel free to fix the source yourself (e.g. by adding {{Own}} when it is clearly own work), but no need to tag them as "No source". -- King of ♥ 09:55, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@King of Hearts Now one of the questions I have is whether I need to fill in the source when both VRT and PD-beacuse templates appear on the same page? And if we don't do this, the file will always hang in the category named file has no source. Q28 (talk) 14:04, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Can you give an example? -- King of ♥ 01:28, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I may have misremembered the version of the template, but no matter what, File:28 sekundi čistote 90 x 70cm 2020.jpg@King of Hearts Q28 (talk) 02:37, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We can put "VRTS" as the source if the permission came through VRTS but we're not sure on the exact source. -- King of ♥ 03:01, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@King of Hearts I see. Is there anything else you need to let me know? Q28 (talk) 04:59, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

This media may be deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:-X.jpg, is missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted.

If you created the content yourself, enter {{Own}} as the source. If you did not add a licensing template, you must add one. You may use, for example, {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} or {{Cc-zero}} to release certain rights to your work.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

I noticed you've uploaded File:! IMG.jpg and I thought I should draw your attention to a common error. Please give uploaded files meaningful names. Otherwise they are difficult to track and it is hard to tell what the file is about without actually looking at it. I suggest you rename your image with an intuitive name that describes the file itself. Thanks, and happy editing!

Please properly use the "source" field

[edit]

Hi Q28,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons! It looks like a file you uploaded to Commons has an invalid entry indicated for its "Source" on File:暂未收录该车次.jpg. It is important that the |Source= field, which is the record of where a file came from, be accurate and as machine-readable as possible so that others can verify its license and be able to reuse the file under the correct terms. For example, sources such as "Me", "Self" or "My camera" should be replaced with the template {{Own}}; sources such as "Google", "The Internet", etc. are not considered valid and may result in deletion of the file. If you did not generate the file yourself, then you may want to revisit the file and be as specific as you can in identifying your source: ideally, this might be a stable link to the exact webpage that the image or file came from, or perhaps the title, year, and page number of the book where you found it (a link to a website in general is not usually considered specific enough, nor is simply restating the name of the author). For guidance on indicating your source please visit the page COM:SOURCE.

Thank you for your contributions. Your image or other content was recently deleted, or will soon be deleted, in accordance with our process and policies, because it was not, or is not, within our scope. Please review our project scope, but in short, Commons is targeted at educational media files including photographs, diagrams, animations, music, spoken text and video clips. The expression “educational” is to be understood according to its broad meaning of “providing knowledge; instructional or informative”. Wikimedia Commons does not contain text articles like encyclopedia articles, textbooks, news, word definitions and such. Each of these other kinds of content have their own projects: Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikinews, Wiktionary and Wikiquote. If the content seems to fit the scope of one of those other projects, please consider contributing it there. Otherwise, consider an alternative outlet. If you think that the deletion was in error because the contribution really was in scope, you can appeal it at Commons:Undeletion requests, giving a reason why it fits our scope to help others evaluate the matter. Thank you for your understanding.

Pay attention to copyright
File:中国首次火星探测火星全球影像图.png has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

  • This file is a copyright violation for the following reason: Bogus license.

Hello Q28.

You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful.

This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions.

Thanks for uploading File:北魏永宁寺钻探记录.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:天马辰星图34x24cm.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Translations:Commons:CropTool/15/en-us has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this translation unit, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Your account has been blocked

[edit]

You were told not to add low quality files, specially GIF, and to add descriptions when adding Media of the Day files. You need to be more responsive to requests from other contributors. --Yann (talk) 16:21, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I also blocked you indefinitely on the Template namespace. You are not competent enough to edit this namespace. Yann (talk) 18:53, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Yann: It's just that your one-week view of me was offset by the permanent ban and the space of the template namespace, As a result, my current ban in this place has become very similar to the English Wikipedia, with one less project namespace. I will soon be reducing my editing between this project and simultaneous development. I will continue to edit wikidata shortly--Q28 (talk) 01:32, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Q28 Due to this reply, I believe that you really don't have the competence to read and understand what others are talking about. So I'd like to support a Site ban for you and if you dare to come to English projects to show off, I will contact stewards for a GB Lemonaka (talk) 13:33, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Lemonaka My consideration is to rather start a Global ban request as per zhwiki VPO discussion, while non-disclosure paid editing is allowed on Commons as I've heard, that's a reason for zhwiki to start sockpuppet investigating due to potential political involved. I've discussed with Tigerzeng just after this block. Lemonaka (talk) 08:32, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign
This file may be deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:! IMG.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image".

Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!
