Commons:Deletion requests/File:Caroline-mulroney-1.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this project page, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

It isn't clear to me who authored the document that contains these photos. You state that it is a US Department of Defense employee, but I see no indication of that on the document. A request

Perhaps you might consider not uploading any more images extracted from those Guardian PDFs unless they are clearly marked as the work of military or government personnel? Thanks. World's Lamest Critic (talk) 19:26, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Generally, I don't find it praiseworthy to spend one's time uploading a bunch of content from gov't sources just because you might believe it to be PD. Helping article editors get images to support their text is useful. Downloading from gov't websites and uploading to Commons is wasteful, in my opinion, if not foolish. Perhaps you could be more careful that what you upload is really not protected by copyright. That would save some work for other editors. And it would mean fewer deletion requests for you to deal with. Thanks! World's Lamest Critic (talk) 22:41, 11 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:U. S. Coast Guard- Small Cutters and Patrol Boats 1915 - 2012.pdf. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

If you are going to accuse me of being a "sockpuppetmaster" or "dedicated to violating our policies" you should do it privately. And it was the New York Times that "outed" your friend Joshua Boyle. World's Lamest Critic (talk) 15:31, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Despite my request, you seem intent on misrepresenting my words where I am currently unable to respond. Because of our communications difficulties, I wondered if you had a spectrum disorder, in which case I would change how I attempted to communicate with you. To call this "a mental illness" is insulting to people with those conditions. I suggest you revise your statement. World's Lamest Critic (talk) 15:19, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • A bullshit claim. Your faux helpful suggestion that I had a mental disorder was very clearly obviously a personal attack, and nothing more. I am under no obligation to take your very very late faux apology at face value. Geo Swan (talk) 00:02, 15 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please watch what you say (a friendly reminder)

Geo Swan, based on your remarks here, perhaps it will helpful for you to see this sockpuppetry investigation. If I had any other accounts, they would have been discovered at that time. Nor am I the person harassing you via Toronto-based IPs. Nor am I harassing J.C. Maçek III (or anyone else) via IPs.

Allow me to repeat my earlier advice - stick to boats. You are likely to end up blocked yourself if you continue to use poor judgment on articles pertaining to living people. World's Lamest Critic (talk) 15:17, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note to third parties... World's Lamest Critic was wikistalking me on enwiki, until they were indefinitely blocked for outing wikipedia contributors real world identities. Their wikistalking of me included multiple instances of what they characterized as "friendly advice" -- including the "friendly advice" that they thought I should check out a mental illness they thought I had. Geo Swan (talk) 15:24, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Geo Swan, I did not suggest you had a mental illness or that anyone should "check out" anything (whatever you mean by that). I have previously clarified this. Equating autism spectrum disorders with mental illness is insulting. You really should stop doing that. World's Lamest Critic (talk) 15:57, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Allow me to apologize for linking spectrum disorder when I should have instead linked Autism spectrum. My mistake. It was a genuine attempt to understand our communications difficulties at the time. I was willing to change how I was communicating with you if it would help. I have apologized for this, although it was not intended to be insulting and I continue to believe it is not an insulting question. I will not apologize again. You seem to be fixated on this. That's fine, but you insist on referring to people on the Autism spectrum as having a mental illness. They do not. Please stop making that inference. World's Lamest Critic (talk) 01:02, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • WLC's apology is not accepted.
WLC made these cracks about mental health as a shameful rhetorical ploy to avoid addressing civil policy-based attempts to have a meaningful dialogue.
To any third party readers, in the message above WLC asserts "I have apologized for this" -- implying they had offered an apology on an earlier occasion. That is just not true, not even close. Up until the insincere apology immediately above WLC was totally unrepentant, as the discussion at at Wikipedia talk:No personal attacks#NPA question [2] makes clear. Geo Swan (talk) 09:21, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Geo Swan, I have absolutely nothing to gain from lying about my motivation for asking the question. I give up. World's Lamest Critic (talk) 14:22, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • To Geo Swan and all interested third parties, World's Lamest Critic is Wikistalking me again as you can see here. And falsely accusing me of being someone I am not. Isn't there something that can be done about someone who obsessively follows others around Wikipedia? This person just needs to learn to leave others on Wikipedia alone. An easy question

In the past, I have encouraged you to stick to articles about boats because of your lack of judgment when it comes to articles about living people. Perhaps that was not good advice. You have added two images to en:Fireboat Tiburon, an article you created about a specific boat: File:20071017 Tiburon fire boat.jpg and File:Tiburon Fire Department fireboat fights a fire on Angel Island, near San Francisco, 2008-10-13.jpg. Do these look like the same boat to you? World's Lamest Critic (talk) 22:09, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

For the record, the IP that undid your edit wasn't me. I don't know which boat is the right one. World's Lamest Critic (talk) 15:35, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Intellectual property in Afghanistan

Hello. Following your inquiry about the current status of intellectual property in Afghanistan, I would like to inform you that the Parliament of Afghanistan passed a modern copyright law in 2008 [3]. Furthermore, Afghanistan has copyright relations with the United States since at least December 2017 [4] [5], and the country became a member of the Bern Union since 2 June 2018 [6].

Regarding your writings at the Village Pump about progress, I would like to say that I think joining international conventions has nothing to do with progress. I am an Iranian national. Iran is not a member of any international copyright conventions. While I very much like that my country joins the Berne Union and I actively campaign for it, I can understand why many people (including elites and intellectuals) oppose joining such agreements. They argue that we would be basically a copyright-importing country. Thus, we should pay high royalties to British, American and other Western publishers to obtain their permission, while we have virtually no products of our own to export. They argue that Westerners have colonized Eastern nations and have progressed through "plundering our riches." Now it is our turn to translate their valuable books and publications without paying a penny, and make progress at their expense. The debate is, of course, much more complicated, but it comes down to what I just said. Regards 4nn1l2 (talk) 03:34, 30 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Norman Robinson (right) and three other soldiers - N-2002-005-0001 141.jpg.

Thank you.

Pay attention to copyright
File:Captain Marvel First Set Photos Leak Out! (39187315394).jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT.
