Tip: Categorizing images
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT (talk) 06:23, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Brave effort putting this for FP. I see from some of the comments that there is an expectation of perfection every time, regardless of subject matter etc. By way of example, last weekend I took about 50 shots of heather flowers, hoping that one might perhaps be good enough to try for FP. I am still looking for that above average picture, and hoping that I can identify the species. While you have some of the same disappointing features (like lens generated colour fringes) that I get, you have done quite well for this subject. The sharpness of the small features is similar to my heather flowers (those that were in focus as intended), which are similar sized. Don't get too discouraged, but treat the FP debates as an opportunity to learn. A few people have very high quality cameras. The rest of us work hard with what we have got, and dream of being able to afford something better. -- Robert of Ramsor (talk) 01:27, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

White House floor plan images
Hi, I noticed you have edited several of my images regarding the White House Complex and have changed the typeface and in most do not acknowledge me as the creator. Any reason for the font change? it is less legible. Thanks. CApitol3 (talk) 02:33, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hello. Wadester16 requested 3 images of yours to be vectorized, so maybe you can ask him about it. Regarding the font, it was the closest one I could obtain. ZooFari 20:13, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.
Thank you. This message was added automatically by Nikbot, if you need some help about it, ask its master (Filnik) or go to the Commons:Help desk. --Filnik 01:18, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi Zoo: I have nominated you for Commons adminship. Please indicate whether or not you accept this nomination, then transclude it to the admin page if you did accept. Best of luck! wadester16 00:00, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
- I'm really sorry about the outcome of that. I didn't mean to tarnish your reputation with my baggage. wadester16 03:51, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
- It's not you Wade, or my RFA. Have I been reading the policy upside down? ZooFari 14:11, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
I just wanted to say that my vote (a very weak oppose) wasn't due anything that you may suspect influenced some votes. It had absolutely nothing to do with your nominator (and even if it did, it wouldn't be negative) or the way you made requests on his talk page (again, not a bad thing in itself). It was because I wanted to see more involvement with the community in general. That is simply the best way to reassure people that you will be a good admin. That's all. I'm posting here because I really don't want you to think that my vote meant anything else. I don't know what you think, but something felt wrong when you withdrew. Normally, when I do weak votes (vs. comments), it's not to simply pile on another support/oppose (you know, those "per someone" type of votes) but because I sincerely hope it encourages the user to think about what I said and improve in those areas so that they can become an admin (or better one) in the future. I will definitely support you if you run again and have let people get to know you a little more. Cheers, Rocket000 (talk) 18:56, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- No no, this is just about the notice board. There were some things brought up that just puzzled me :-/ ZooFari 19:10, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, ok. I'm the one that did the misinterpreting then. :-) Rocket000 (talk) 21:50, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Do you use a browser that blocks pop-ups? If so, you may want to disable that for this site. Your DRs aren't being listed. [1] Rocket000 (talk) 02:00, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi Zoofari, I was wondering if you would mind me deleting File:Phidippus clarus courtship edit.jpg since neither image ended up being promoted. Also, I'm not sure if you ever saw my comments regarding the edit. Of course, it's up to you, but I prefer not to clutter up the categories with too many duplicates/edits. Thanks again for making the effort to improve on the original. Cheers. Kaldari (talk) 21:07, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- A friendly hint: If you upload anything as a temporary file or as a potential temporary file, don't use it, only link to it. At least on other projects. Uploading locally might be better if you know beforehand it's likely to be temporary. This particular one is used in the mainspace over there too. Some bold admins might be willing to replace that use, but then you're still left with talk page. Who likes ruining archived FPCs? Especially on another project. It just puts the admins willing to help in a tough spot. Most will just deny any request like that. Rocket000 (talk) 04:07, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
File:Phidippus clarus courtship edit.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Thanks for uploading File:Coat_of_arms_of_Bosniaks_in_Serbia_and_Montenegro.SVG. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Coat_of_arms_of_Bosniaks_in_Serbia_and_Montenegro.SVG]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Hi ZooFari, I just stumbled upon your deletion request for this image and compared your SVG version to the original. I'm not familiar with those flags, but I guess they're supposed to be quadratic. If so, could you upload a new version? And could you make SVG versions of the other flags on this page, too (I hope it's not too much to ask)? Cheers, --NEURO ⇌ 16:04, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
- Will do. What would you want me to upload for the new version? ZooFari 16:43, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

The new version of Graphic Lab?
Hi ZooFari,
I recently found that Commons:Graphic Lab School/Images to improve is no longer active and moved to Commons:Graphic Lab/Illustration workshop, Commons:Graphic Lab/Photography workshop, and Commons:Graphic_Lab/Map_workshop. I think such big movement should be announced to every active Wikigraphists... At least it makes us more familiar... (don't worry, it's just my opinion). Oh yeah, the new version of Commons Graphic Lab it's just like Graphic Lab in English Wikipedia. Btw, there are many links that scatter around Commons and Wikipedia that still point to Commons:Graphic Lab School/Images to improve... I think that link should be corrected to somewhere else more appropriate. Thanks for your kind attention. Ivan Akira (talk) 13:21, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll send a head up message to all the graphic lab participants. I'll be disambiguating the links using AWB once all discussions are archived. ZooFari 22:53, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks for your understanding and your hard work. I'm really appreciate it. Ivan Akira (talk) 00:16, 18 December 2009 (UTC)
Oh yeah ZooFari, I hope I don't interfere with your work, but I'm already tidy up the request in the Graphic Lab. And I'm already post notice in the discussion page. Btw, can you help me to archive the English Bulldog request? Because I think it's already done. Ivan Akira (talk) 02:43, 18 December 2009 (UTC)
Transfer from Graphic Lab
Thanks for letting me know! I will keep an eye on it, but it seems there's nobody interested.. :) Ruigeroeland (talk) 11:57, 18 December 2009 (UTC)
You seem active in Graphic Lab, so...
So, whay don't you put your name at Commons:Graphic_Lab/wikigraphists or add an userbox {{User Wikigraphist}} to your user page? I think it will be nice. Ivan Akira (talk) 00:54, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

About Paris Las Vegas 2009.jpg
Hi there ZooFari... I want to inform that I have finished removing the spots and lens smudges on File:Paris Las Vegas 2009.jpg, please refer to Commons:Graphic_Lab/Photography_workshop#Paris_Las_Vegas for answering my question about where I should upload the improved image. Btw, if you already request at Commons, I don't think that you should re-request same inquiry at English Wikipedia... Moreover you upload your photo at Commons, so it's best to leave Commons' Wikigraphists to handle that improvement. Okay? Ivan Akira (talk) 03:16, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
- Update, I'm already de-noise the photo so, please have a look again. And maybe this request is done. Ivan Akira (talk) 02:43, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

- Hi, ZooFari. I appreciate your energy in trying to help out with the hideous backlog at files for deletion, that is to be commended. As you see, sometimes, issues are a bit more complicated than they seem, and it should always be remembered that these discussions are not votes, and a simple majority is not the deciding metric, although it can help indicate consensus. Here, consensus was not the issue, as the image in and of itself violated certain core commons requirements. I hope you take this as a learning experience, and that you continue to contribute to the commons with the same zeal and enthusiasm that you have shown. Thanks again! -- Avi (talk) 15:33, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

Notification
When you left the notification about File:BurjDubaiAug09.jpg on my talk page, did you read the very first thing there - the bit about me being an infrequent visitor Commons? It just by chance that I logged in here today. I'm surprised you didn't leave me a note at my talk page on the English Wikipedia. Astronaut (talk) 01:12, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
On a related point, I am unsure about your nomination of so many images for FoP violation in United Arab Emirates. Surely Wikipedia is a non-commercial organisation and Federal Law No. (7) of the Year 2002 Concerning Copyrights and Neighboring Rights states the following:
22. Without prejudice to literary rights of the author stipulated in this law, the author after the publication of his work must not prohibit a third person to perform one of the following acts:
1. To make a sole copy from the work for the merely personal and non-commercial or professional but personal use of the copier. The works of the fine and applied arts are excepted unless were located in public place by consent of the right holder or his successor, the works of architecture are also excepted as in para (7) of this article and also the computer programs and their application unless as indicated in para (2) of this article. [...] 7. Presenting the fine arts, applied and plastic arts works or architectural works in broadcasting programmes, if such works are permanently present in public places.
Sub-section 1 is not mentioned in Commons' list of FoP laws, but would appear to be relevant here. Astronaut (talk) 01:19, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
- Perhaps you can voice your opinion on the DR. ZooFari 02:57, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
- What! We only get 2 days to assess these forty images? You could have said that somewhere. How do I do a deletion review? Astronaut (talk) 13:33, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

I noticed you removed the rename request for this file, stating it did not meet renaming standards. However I believe that it meets item number 6 of Commons:File renaming#What files should be renamed?.
It is the last image in the set of Category:SVG - State seals of the United States that does not follow the naming convention. Naming conventions exist for similar sets like Category:SVG flags - States of the United States, and using a consistent set makes it easier to maintain pages like en:Seals of the U.S. states. --Svgalbertian (talk) 02:33, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
- There are no "naming conventions" required for categories (any Commons page on that?). #6 does not follow that rule, unless it is used as a template or other exception. If you would like to retag it and see if an admin takes consideration, go right ahead but no promises. Cheers, ZooFari 03:03, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
