Hello, Boeing720!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

helpme I get a question about a picture of old beer cans of a type that only is of interest to swedish wikipedia (I guess). I've written this (and more) at the upload but keep getting messages about category. I used the upload wizard but never could see anything conc. categories. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Boeing720 (talk • contribs) 2012-01-19T06:42:48‎ (UTC)

Hej Boeing720, welcome to Commons! Unfortunately you need to click "more options" inside the upload wizard to see the category adding section. See this description: Template:Please_link_images/en. You can add categories after upload by placing on the file page - just use the normal edit button please - not the "image note". :-) However, another user already has added which is a more useful category. That is fine now. More Info: Commons:Categories.
By the way: your description is really good! Did that help you? Just reply below - I watch this page now. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 18:30, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright info regarding the cans[edit]

Hi again, one more hint: you need to be careful if you want to upload photos which depict works by other people. At File:Mellanoel.JPG there are the drawings/designs of the cans. Only simple design (text logos) is okay - like the second, green can. The other cans, especially the third are problematic → see COM:DW. A alternative to text only are very very old works - see Commons:Licensing#Sweden and/or Commons:Licensmallar#Mallar_relaterade_till_Sverige for what is protected how long. You may ask your Swedish fellows at Commons:Bybrunnen for more specific info. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 18:30, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You very much. I belive that I finally managed to get the picture categorized, but as "Beer" only. "Beer cans" is of course a better category, so Thanks once again. The matter of can numer three from the left is a beer brewed by a brewery that no longer exists. "Gränges". Also can number four from the left is brewed at this former brewery. I do not think that this can label has an author of the photografy. In such a case the photographer must have had some kind of royalty to this ex-brewery, at that much I know is not true. But I didn't really think about it at the time. Do you think that the picture (that is of a certain importance for the swedish wikipedia) should be removed , then I cannot dissagree. But what about a photo of (not very old) notes and stamps, theese also contains works of art... /best reguards Boeing720 (talk) 10:38, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hej! Regarding the third (from left) can: Template:PD-Sweden-photo tells us that even simple photos (which are not recognized as "work") are not free unless they are made before 1969. First: I don't know what exactly counts as "simple photo" in Sweden. Second: Do we know the photo is before 1969 - probably we don't know. Usually it is not relevant if the company still exists or not - someone owns their assets (which includes potential photo rights) now. There is a slight possibility that the can designs are regarded as de minimis (which would mean that your photo is okay to keep) here, but I don't think so. So I will propose the image for deletion and a discussion with other community members can happen therein - we will see what the outcome is.
We have this rule: precautionary principle; which reminds us to be careful to not violate copyrights - "importance" for Wikipedia articles is not relevant in assessing the copyright situation (that is much different from fair use rules in some Wikipedias). Product packaging photos are sadly a difficult topic because there are often copyright eligible designs on the packagings.
I thought I should tell you right away so you are not angry if someone tells you this after you have uploaded twenty pictures of product packagings. :-)
An non-copyright note: if you made photographs: just upload them in the best quality/resolution you have since they are scaled down to the display size automatically by our servers. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 17:25, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Tanks again. The beer can in question can have been made between 1965 and 1977 (the time when this type of beer were sold in supermarkets etc.). The photo is brand new thow. But I really doubt that this beer can differs legally from the others in terms of photograpy. By this I mean that the (very) unknown photographer of the picture on the beer can. (I've looked at the can, but no photographer is mentioned) took the picture on behalf of the brewery, a brewery that no longer exists. And the photo shows not an entire piece of art work, but six different beer cans. Only a part of the picture of the beer can be seen. It's not like I've taken a photo of a photo from a magazine or a paper. And finally I note that You do not mention anything

about bank notes and stamps. I also wonder howcome a "user in red" (like myself) deals with theese kind of matters. And I note that You both use swedish greetings and knows a lot about swedish regulations on wikipedia. Perhaps You too is lives in Sweden ? If so why pretend ? (that is IF) But please be my guest and remove it, if You feel so strongly in this issue. Boeing720 (talk) 18:04, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you are right - because of the fact that your photo doesn't try to reproduce the depicted photo on the third can it could maybe just be okay due to "de minimis".
Sorry! I simply forgot to answer regarding your question about banknotes and stamps: Depicting those is only possible if they are public domain. That may be because they are not copyrighted in some countries or because they are old enough. Banknotes: Commons:Money#Sweden. Stamps: See Commons:Stamps - I have added a section about Sweden: Commons:Stamps/Public_domain#Sweden. I couldn't find anything about a exception from copyright (and a discussion which confirms that) - that means per default: do not upload until you know that it is okay and why. E.g. File:Frimarke1973jul ahs.jpg is okay because the painter died long ago (should be at least 70 years since his death). Category:Stamps of Sweden has very few images compared to other countries - so I guess that Swedish stamps are copyrighted until they are old enough. That is also said here (just found this) Category_talk:Stamps_of_Sweden.
New users ("in red") get information at the start of the uploading process (at UploadWizard you see the licensing tutorial) – of course it is nearly impossible to understand it if one is new to this - also due to much complicated rules. So in the end it is a bit trial and error – and asking others here if you are not relatively sure.
I am living in Germany and just like foreign languages and culture, therefore I know a tiny tiny bit Swedish. The regulations are all listed by country in COM:L and COM:CT; I have just looked at the Swedish sections and I am interested in copyright law in general. :-) Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 20:50, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well concidering my last comment - Please do disregard my last part. I know that many germans understands scandinavian language rather well. Besides I don't really care much of that picture, so I leave it ENTIRE up to You now. So if You find the "beer can picture" still doubtful, just remove it. You do not need to explain more to me in this case. The picture has been a problem ever since I uploaded it, first due to lack of category. Thow I followed the upload guide wich I ,at the time, belived to be sufficient. Alles Gut ! Boeing720 (talk) 13:07, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violations[edit]

Hello,

Sorry, but these images below are "slavish" reproductions of copyrighted artwork, so they cannot be uploaded to Commons.

It *might* be permissible to use them on some Wikipedias under "fair use" criteria (see here, for example, but you cannot upload "fair use" images to Commons.

Hello ! Almost all LP/CD-album are shown toghether with the article about the album on english Wikipedia. I fail to see in what way my pictures are different than others of the same kind (LP/CD albums). Or do You suggest that I've used wrong kind of liecence ? 83.249.163.247 01:38, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just take the following example

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machine_Head_%28album%29

Why are these images permitted ? Or what coul'd I had done instead. This is really hard to comprahend Boeing720 (talk) 01:49, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again,
Those images are stored at English Wikipedia, *not* at Commons. They are permitted using the legal "fair use" criteria, but they are still copyrighted and non-free. They can only be used within certain articles and with restrictions. (For every use, one must explain why using the image in that article is justified.) Please see the "Fair use" article at English Wikipedia for more details.
Some Wikipedias allow "fair use" images (e.g. English Wikipedia). Other Wikipedias do *not* allow "fair use" images (e.g. Dutch Wikipedia and Swedish Wikipedia). For this reason, the English Wikipedia "Allman Brothers Band" includes the cover, but the Swedish version does not.
Commons is a repository of freely-usable images. Since "fair use" images are still copyrighted and non-free, they cannot be uploaded to Commons. See Commons' "No Fair Use Images" articles for more details.
I strongly recommend you read the two linked articles above, as they explain things more clearly than I do. :-)
All the best, Ubcule (talk) 12:33, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK I will study them, but I would like to point out that my LP-images only occur at english wikipedia. (Nynningen is not in usenywhere - but they themselves do use an artcle from a newspaper in their 1974 album. Doubt strongly that they can make any claims. But the pictures was removed from swedish wiki months ago, and the same applies to Allman Brothers Band. While Steppenwolf - For Ladies Only, ONLY has been on english wiki) Hasn't the problem been solved more than a month ago ? Boeing720 (talk) 16:47, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It isn't relevant whether or not the "For Ladies Only" pictures are only used at English Wikipedia- they cannot be *stored* at Commons. Commons is a repository for *free images* only.
It also isn't relevant whether or not Nynningen "got away" with using copyrighted material or whatever.
To use your album covers on English Wikipedia (or on any other Wikipedia that allows "fair use" of copyrighted material), you must (i) upload them *there* (not here) and (ii) give a "fair use" rationale for each usage.
The album covers cannot be shown at Swedish Wikipedia because they Swedish Wikipedia does not permit use of non-free "fair use" images. I think this is for legal reasons, but you would have to ask them. Ubcule (talk) 20:51, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, could you please add to the discussion at Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Neil_Pearson.JPG to clarify the source of this image. If it was taken by pointing a camera at a television or monitor display, then it is a *possible* copyright violation. If I am wrong, please accept my apologies. However, if you can explain the source, this will help us to keep the image if possible. Much appreciated, thank you. Ubcule (talk) 23:06, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File:Neil Pearson.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Ubcule (talk) 23:02, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ubcule ! You are right, it is a television shot. But I've seen other (very obvious) TV-shots of Neil Paerson. See article "Between the lines" and You will see Pearson in on afar larger image. So I assumed it was OK. My picture is only a small part of the entire TV-window (and the entire photoshot) that is shown. Please do remember that that picture was the first (or possibly one of the first). I'm very sorry if this was some kind of copyright violation. But now You've got the truth. 83.249.163.247 01:29, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, the image was uploaded in good faith, and it was an honest mistake on your part. Unfortunately, it will still be removed from Commons.
The "Between the Lines" image is a non-free "fair use" image, and is stored at English Wikipedia (not Commons); see my other comment above for more details.
All the best, Ubcule (talk) 12:39, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've always thought that commons is where wikipedia images are to be stored. If possible - could You give me the address to this other image storage at english wikipedia, just a link would be fine. Thanks for Your efforts Boeing720 (talk) 16:52, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If it's a *free* image, then it's better to store it at Commons, so that everyone can access it. But if it's a non-free copyrighted image for "fair use" only, it cannot be stored at Commons. You must upload it locally to the Wikipedia you want to use it on. This can be done via English Wikipedia's File Upload Wizard (this link is also available under "Toolbox->Upload File" on English Wikipedia). You must also fill in a "fair use rationale" template.
Hope this helps, Ubcule (talk) 20:36, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes - Thank You the link was all I needed. Merry Christmas !

Hi there,

Sorry to bother you again, but in light of our conversation above, can you please confirm the source of File:DrHook_Nude_at_Copenhagen_70s.JPG? (i.e. is it an original photograph taken by you, or was it rephotographed from a DVD, book or whatever).

No hard feelings if it turns out to be an (unintentional) copyvio, as it was uploaded before we had that discussion above; we just need to confirm whether it is or isn't a free image. All the best! Ubcule (talk) 14:13, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again ! No hard feelings at all! Had forgotten about that TV-shot - it's to my knowlige not in use anyware. Remove it from the storage. And thanks for the link by the way. Boeing720 (talk) 00:21, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, glad it was useful. I've "speedied" the image, so it should be gone soon- thanks for letting me know. All the best, Ubcule (talk) 17:31, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello ! I have over the last years learned that scans/shots of all Swedish litterature until 1967 is alouded. I don't know how or why. But it seems to be true, You are not the first one to ask me about such matters. The shot is taken from "Bonniers Lexikon", a Swedish encyclopedia from the ealier part of the 1960's, so it should be fine. By the way, the picture above, a Great-blacked Gull mobbing an Eurasian Sea Eagle is also taken from a Swedish book, "Örn" (Eagle) by Sixten Johnson, the same question arised, and it was fine. Thanks for Your efforts. Boeing720 (talk) 09:34, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sources[edit]

Hi User:Boeing720. I see you are having trouble putting the source of the images into the upload template! I see also that when they get nominated you can provide them. Therefore, I'm nominating the image that was most recently marked, just please go to the entry as linked on the little nomination box where it says "this entry's page" in dark linkable blue and comment over there! Thank you so much for understanding that this COM:L stuff is a process not a value judgement. Where it says "source" on the upload, for old images it's not asking "did you take the picture?" What it means is "where did you get the image of which you took the picture?" You have piles of lovely old images. I really don't want to have to nominate them all because of a simple misunderstanding on the upload form. When you get the next adorably pink box, please follow the link and make comment of where the image came from. It looks to me like Landskrona Museum, and probably published long enough ago to qualify, but the expert admins will have a chance to decide and meanwhile you can go through your other images, and please provide sources for them! Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 19:06, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ellin Beltz, and thanks for the most giving explination of how things works. After "source", now I have provided the exact link to the picture of IFK Landskrona (In 1910, on their way for an away game. I do though think that the cyklists perhaps not belongs to the team, but that will we never fin out.) , from where I have made the download. But the very first publishing of this 1910 photo is presumable a local newspaper of the time. I hope there now are no further questions regarding this picture.
I'm indeed very thankful for the What it means is "where did you get the image of which you took the picture?" explination. If You like, Please inform me about other problems. If there other old pictures, that I've uploaded and which are troublesome ? As I've attempted to explained, other good peoples at Wikimedia have previously taught me that photos published in Sweden before or until 1967 are free. (if it includes the specific year 1967 or not, I don't know). Thanks again and cheers ! Boeing720 (talk) 22:21, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User:Boeing720. I see that you put the source for the image. All that remains now is to fix the license to the best choice for it from this list, instead of the self-license tags which are there now. To explain how this all works for OLD pictures starting completely at the beginning (in case you want to save it for later) ...

1.) Find the old picture at museum website.
2.) Upload to Commons.
3.) Source put the exact webpage from where it came (as you did), but if it is at all confusing, put more than one URL in source... #1 for the exact picture, and #2 for where it shows the name of the picture host (in this case the museum). The way you have it is fine because there are so few images, it is not hard to poke through, but if you ever get one from a page with 100s of images, make sure you have the direct link as well just to make it easy on the admins who have to review 1000s of images a day....
4.) License... Because you didn't take the picture, none of the "self" licenses are correct, instead use the PD-old template which looks like PD-1923 and then type after it "for non-U.S. works published before 1 January 1923, Public Domain, due to Swedish regulations of copyrights before 1967". The tags which must be removed are GFDL, cc-by-sa-3.0 & CC-BY-SA.
5.) "Author" put "unknown" unless the museum website gives a name of photographer.
Source and License kitten will purr for you!
Source and License kitten will purr for you!
6.) And then... (ready for the really fun part?)... I have to ask you to go through all your images and see if they are sourced and licensed properly. I know that's a big task, but think of it this way - your edit count goes up massively for fairly repetitive work!

Here's a kitten to keep you company while you're editing all those photos!. Thank you for your understanding and working with me to get the process all the way finished. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 06:54, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again! I've put the PD1923 liecence in the Summary box now. Of what Your write, I understand that there may be trouble also with some other OLD photo's. Some of them has been e-mailed to me, when I asked for non-free pictures that's has been donated for use at Wikipedia only (uploaded through the tool at Wikipedia), but I also recieved some OLD photos that I've uploaded here at Wikimedia Commons. (Like a photo from around 1920 showing football is played at the old sports ground in Landskrona) Is the source in such cases the e-mail from where I've obtained them ? It's a local Archive also. But far from all their photos exists at the webb. But must be OK, since it was added seperately from the newer ones. Further what about photo's from OLD books - published in Sweden before 1967. And - last, where do I find uploaded pictures that not is an issue (yet) ? Some I may remeber through Wikipedia articles, but not all. I also wonder about photos of photos from Swedish books published before 1967. I thank You very much again, You have explained this jungle of rules better than anyone else before. Thank's again , if I only knew how to, I would have given You a bird of some kind, in return for the kitten. Cheers ! Boeing720 (talk) 00:31, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. I have now updated info for the following pictures, to my very best. Photo no 2 and 4 has no direct webblink to the photo, as I can find. But how to reach "Arbbetarrörelsens arkiv" (e-mail and person) is stated instead.

I used the same liecence for the first photo, as is used by another user has done for File:Landskrona vs. AIK 1962.jpeg, since the photo is from later than 1923.

 1. File:Harry Dahl in Landskrona BoIS colours.JPG
 2. File:Landskrona Old Football and Cykle Ground.jpg
 3. File:First Sport Venue Of Landskrona Banan.JPG
 4. File:IFK Landskrona football club around 1910.JPG
I hope that I now have corrected these photo's OK (?). Cannot recall to have any uploaded other old OLD pictures. But I'm not quite certain. In the future I will use Your eminent guidlines. Still the question of "photo of (book/newspaper) photo's" remain though. Please do tell me if everything is OK. Many thanks again, especially for notify me about the imminent deletion of the IFK Landskrona photo from 1910. Cheers Boeing720 (talk) 01:19, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:1960 to 1990 Cockpit ILS instrumentation.JPG. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Hello! I have made the text, the gauges comes from a FREEWARE made by George Carty. The exact same model can be downloaded at http://simviation.com/hjg/panels/boeing.htm for free. You have to download "B707/720 Core Files/gauges" and "B707-320B/C "Adv" ". I'm not aware how to do, when I combine a freeware with my own text. Could You please help me ? If any question remains, I will answer them. Please do not remove the image as it is Public Domain. I just simply don't know how to make a "liecense template". Boeing720 (talk) 23:46, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You should read Commons:Screenshots and find exact license the FREEWARE is distributed under. Just because it is free (distributed without need to pay) it does not necessarily mean that the software is distributed under free license. Than you should edit the page and add "Free screenshot " in the license section with ... replaced by the name of the license template(like GPL, GFDL, etc. ) --Jarekt (talk) 16:11, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Boeing720, the following content you uploaded violates one or more of our policies and therefore has been or will soon be deleted:

File:1960 to 1990 Cockpit ILS instrumentation.JPG

The Wikimedia Commons (this website) only hosts media files with a realistic educational purpose and that can be used for any purpose, including:
 • use in any work, regardless of content
 • creation of derivative works
 • commercial use
 • free distribution

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.

Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions.

Yours sincerely, Green Giant (talk) 23:48, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

May I ask if Your message has something to do with my (unanswered) comment by Jarekt - or is the message written only due to the removal of the image ? However I think I explain the Public Domain issue to the autor and copyright owner, mr George Carty well enough. And although he suggest to use a photo instead, he gives his permission to upload the image as Public Domain. And I do show him the image. (If I'm to re-upload it, I will make the pointers better though). Here is the answer from George Carty, Historical Jet Group. (perhaps You need to scroll up)

http://tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/thread/7301/screenshot-use-wikipedia?page=1&scrollTo=50536

I do understand that also freeware can be copyrighted, but now I interprete the autor's mr George Carty, HJG, answer as it's permitted to upload this image as Public Domain. (His suggestion, that a real photo would be better, doesn't change the fact that that he permittes us to use the image) And to use a real photo is difficult to obtain, especially if the image clearly will demonstrate that the Flight Director most certainly can show the opposite of the ILS-instruments, Localizer and Glideslope). I've read Commons:Licensing & Image casebook, but I'm not aware wether You wrote this message before or after I gave "the permission-link" to user Jarekt (who handeled the matter from scratch) ? Doesn't mr Carty's reply satisfy all Public Domain matters ? Thanks 83.249.172.223 01:08, 11 November 2014 (UTC) Sorry, come here through Outlook Express, didn't notice I wasn't logged on Boeing720 (talk) 01:10, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted the file because it did not have a license or an appropriate copyright tag for seven days. Usually I notify uploaders, although sometimes it is not possible, which is why you received this message. I understand that you had a conversation with the copyright holder on a bulletin board, but this is insufficient evidence of permission. You will have to ask him to read and understand COM:OTRS and COM:L. He should then send an email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org, with an appropriate license statement based on the example at COM:ET. Preferably the email should be from his official email address because it helps with the verification process. Patience is then advised as the email system is always backlogged, but eventually an OTRS agent will read the email and if the permission is verified, they will arrange for the file to be restored. Cheers. Green Giant (talk) 18:01, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
But his signature must be valid ? To the left You can see that it actually is Gerorge Carty from SIMVIATION Historical Jet Group or simply HJG, that has given his clear permission. Why must he then, yet again not only be troubeled by first reading lots of Wikimedia bureaucracy, and then even send an e-mail to You ? All issues on all topics reguarding HJG-matters must only be kept at their forum. HJG clearly states. He doesn't want to share his mail-adress around the globe, including all the SPAm this may cause. He didn't even send me a mail. And besides he is a British citizen see http://simviation.com/hjg/members.htm
If it was I that had to do a lot of more stuff, I wouldn't complaint in this way. But asking all that of a non-Wikipedian is a lot, I feel. Thanks Boeing720 (talk) 23:33, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Of cource copyright must be taken seriously, however I have previously been enlightenend that logotypes are OK here. To this I can add that this is the old SL-ferries, owned by someone in Denmark. In 1961 SL was bought up by a Swedish shipping line group, and the logo was changed entirelly. But apart from what I've written, I just know that it's a logo of some kind, used between 1951 and 1961. If it had been Swedish, I thimk the copyright time might have expired, since it isn't a photographical work (it's 70 years for Swedish potograpical works without author, but only 45 year for other published stuff.) That's what I've been told anyway. It's Your ball - but thanks Boeing720 (talk) 05:23, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
But this wasn't uploaded at Wikimedia Commons, was it ? I uploaded it directly from Wikipedia. We better remove it from Commons. I'm afraid I don't know how to. Could You do that please ? Cannot understand it, it should NOT been uploaded as PD but as one of the nine exceptions, of which logos are one. Can anyone have moved it ? Otherwise it's my fault totally, and I'm sorry. Please remove the picture from commons, I will do it at once at the page. Boeing720 (talk) 05:31, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This was uploaded to Commons by you using the Upload Wizard here on Commons with a PD-Denmark50 tag. It was a drawn logotype, created about 65 years ago according to your own accounts. The general copyright term in the EU is the author's life + 70 years. Simple photographs have a shorter term: creation + 50 years in both Denmark and Sweden. I don't know where you get the 45 year figure from. Clearly, PD-Denmark50 does not apply, because this was not a photograph (neither a photographic image nor a photographic work). The general term of life + 70 years is what applies here. There are no special rules for logotypes on Commons. Just like with any type of content, only logotypes that are in the public domain (e.g. due to age or lack of originality) or that have been published under a free license by the copyright holder may be uploaded to Commons. LX (talk, contribs) 10:43, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
First it's 70 year for pictures without author. (That I have learned here). For Swedish photos it's 70 years for photographical works and 45 years for other stuff (time=publishing date), See an example here - https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:HassePersson.jpg. It's not a photograpical work but a newspaper shot. I'm very aware of COMMONS have no exceptions at all. But for unknown reasons I got connected to Commons by misstake.
However at WikiPedia there are 9 categories of exeptions. Logotypes are on of those nine categories. Such photos doesn't become Public Domain, but may be used on some Wikipedias, including the English. I'm truely sorry for the inconvinience. Thanks Boeing720 (talk) 04:00, 19 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If File:Högertrafikomläggningen.jpg is a duplicate of another file, please add "File:Name of the other file" (without "") on top of the file page, thank you. Thanks for this help. It's not a 100% duplicate, but a smaller part of a picture which already exists. I shouldn't have uploaded it. And I'm sorry. And thanks again Boeing720 (talk) 00:05, 10 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Dünkirschen May-June 1940.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Everything in "Die Wehrmacht"-annual books are Public Domain. The books are not mine, and they are very fragile. Cant see any problem. Plaese do not confuse Nazism with military propaganda in general. What's an "evacuation" from one military perspective apparently is an "escape" in an other military perspective. Watched a British short film Coach, English football fans in a coach on their way to a France vs England game. At a motorway stop, they begins shouting to the French "Where were you in World War Two ?". All caused by old military propaganda. Hence I find that image to be a good illustration - not of Nazism - but of there always are different perspectives in wars. Dunqerque 1940 was both an evacuation and an (necessary) escape. Boeing720 (talk) 17:45, 15 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If the images are in the public domain they should be tagged as such, not with a CC-by-SA license. Please go through your remaining uploads and correct the licensing. For example, you are not in a position to release File:SaxtorpsTT 1933 line up.jpg under license since you don't own the original copyright. All images you upload to the commons need to be compatibly licensed in both their source country and the United States and their home country, because the Wikimedia servers are in the US. So File:SaxtorpsTT 1933 line up.jpg needs the CC-by-SA license removed and the appropriate template showing why this image is PD the the Untied States added. Please refer to the Hirtle chart to help you licate the proper license. I have done some of the recent ones to get you started. Diannaa (talk) 12:52, 21 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have at least tried to propose a deletion of Chamberlain , poor quality, uploaded only to make a point at a talk-page. Perhaps you could help me with that ? These is an image of William L Shirer's books "The Rise and fall of the third reich" in Swedish. A 1961 translation of the original (in four separate volumes) and the same work in a less handy put together book. (1968 I think). We have images of the English versions as well. A reason for this image is to show that Shirer's work originaly was written in four volumes. Something that was questioned, as the work (apparently, to my knowledge) has brand renumbered in newer printings. (Including references like "Shirer, p. 986", which not earlier has existed; correct would typically be "Shierer, part/vol. 3, p.312 - or something inline with that) This has sadly been done by younger publishers. I don't understand why you have a desire to delete this specific picture, we have indeed many pictures on this great work. It is legal in Sweden. Boeing720 (talk) 06:57, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Image formats[edit]

Hi, thank you for uploading some images to Commons. Here's a tip: Use the right image format for the kind of image. As a general rule, this is JPEG for photographs, and PNG for most other kinds of images. Using the wrong format can bloat the file size and/or degrade the quality of the image. Most modern graphics applications will give you the choice between these formats among others. See also Commons:File types#Images. Good luck. Smjg (talk) 11:27, 9 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! At File:Grisjakten.jpg you've claimed that "[the author is] not stated, film poster, PD-Sweden (50 years)" - yet at the original source given (here) the uncropped poster credits Sandrews (I presume this company: sv:Sandrews?). Also, COM:Sweden says that the 50 year rule is only for "photos that lack artistic value" - yet this movie poster seems more than just a photo lacking artistic value, as it appears to be a poster edited together to include multiple stills from the film with text - so wouldn't this be copyrighted for 70 years? Just wanted to ask for your opinion on this, thanks. Seagull123 (talk) 12:07, 5 August 2019 (UTC) No Sweden PD is 50 years. And there is no Sandrwes any longer. We have thousands of film posters like this one. Boeing720 (talk) 22:38, 6 August 2019 (UTC) Here - http://www.svenskfilmdatabas.se/sv/item/?type=film&itemid=4847 - not any info on the poster at all.
