Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Hallo OTFW, Deine Galerie Berliner Gedenktafeln ist wunderbar, ich werde sie alle mal durchsehen. Erstaunlich was man alles nicht kennt. Ein Hinweis: am Kudamm gibt es eine Tafel für Robert Musil, siehe http://www.berlin.de/ba-charlottenburg-wilmersdorf/bezirk/gedenktafeln/musil.html - die scheint mir noch zu fehlen. Ich habe Deine Antwort mal hierher verschoben, um es nicht auseinanderzureißen. - Eine Frage noch wegen der möglichst systematischen Erfassungen dieser Sachen: es gibt m.W. eine Reihe von Gedenktafeln z.B. für frühere Synagogen (am Kreuzberger Ufer z.B.) - hast Du die erfasst? Es gibt dazu Literatur der Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung und auch in den 80Jahren schon einen Band über NS-Denkmäler und -Tafel in Berlin (vom Berliner Senat denke ich.) ((Kennst du vermutlich alles besser als ich.)) Für München (wo ich gerade lebe) gibt es übrigens noch nichtmal die Commons-Kategorie: "Plaques in Munich" fehlt noch. Hallo OTFW, wie ich sehe, interessierst Du Dich für Berliner Gedenktafeln. Schöne Bilder, übrigens! Vielleicht fällt das ja auch in Dein Interessenbereich: In Category:Denkmal hat jemand, der das Kategoriesystem offensichtlich nicht verstanden hat, Denkmale aus Berlin gesammelt. Die Bilder sind nicht unbedingt schön und zudem durch Datumseinblendungen verunstaltet, können aber vielleicht doch sinnvoll eingeordnet werden. Kannst Du da helfen? Hallo OTFW, schau mal bitte meine Änderungen an - mir scheint, du lädst mit Commonist oder so hoch und müsstest mal deinen Hochladetext aktualisieren. Die "ImageUpload"-Vorlage gibt es nicht mehr (und hatte auch nie eine Funktion). Das "own" sollte in geschweifte Klammern - oder meinst du nicht "Own work"? Noch besser wäre in Bezug auf Gedenktafeltfotos übrigens {{Self-photographed}}. Und: bei Fotos von Gedenktafeln füge bitte den FOP-Baustein hinzu, damit klar ist, wieso das Foto erlaubt ist (wegen Panoramafreiheit). I've noticed you create new categories from names of people killed at the Berlin Wall. It is good to categorize images, but if you create new categories you must also add them to existing categories!

The best existing category is: Category:People killed at the Berlin Wall

Just add the following text without spaces between the double brackets [ and ] to the description of each new category:

[ [ Category:People killed at the Berlin Wall ] ]

It will add them automatically, and users will have a chance to see your images =)

I have fixed 2 categories already. Cheers!

Hallo OTFW, ich bin gerade über dieses Foto gestolpert. Ist diese Tafel außen am Hotel oder innen vor der zugehörigen Suite angebracht? Wenn letzteres, fällt die Tafel nicht unter die Panoramafreiheit. Da der Text darauf urheberrechtlich geschützt ist, müsste das Bild gelöscht werden. diese beiden Dateien scheinen auf den ersten und auch auf den zweiten und dritten Blick identisch zu sein. Die Software weist sie nicht als byteidentisch aus, also scheint irgendwo ein winziger Unterschied zu bestehen, der aber m. E. dennoch nicht dazu führt, dass es sich um zwei wirklich unterschiedliche Bilder handelt.

Gibt es einen Grund dafür, dass du dasselbe Bild zweimal hochgeladen hast? Kann nicht eine der beiden Dateien gelöscht werden? Vielleicht die mit dem Schreibfehler im Namen ("Schutz" statt "Schulz")? Gruß --Rosenzweig τ 12:33, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Neue Steine

Huhu OTFW, ich hatte den Hinweis schon mal irgendwo als Editkommentar gebracht, aber das war wohl zu unauffällig. Deshalb nochmal hier: Es wär super, wenn du neue Fotos von Stolpersteinen nicht über die alten drüberladen würdest. Ganz besonders gilt das für Fotos von neu verlegten Steinen (weil da nämlich in der Wikipedia immer, und zwar im Beschreibungstext in den Tabellen, Fotos der alten Steine nochmal separat verlinkt werden, damit der Leser schauen kann, was sich verändert hat, und das geht natürlich am besten, wenn die einen anderen Dateinamen haben). Hmm, ich erneuere den Hinweis nochmal, da du bei File:Stolperstein Manfred-von-Richthofen-Str 221 (Templ) Helmut Klotz.jpg und File:Stolperstein Burgherrenstr 4 (Templ) Erich Kuttner.jpg schon wieder neuverlegte Steine mit anderem Text über die dort vorher liegenden Steine geladen hast. Und dasselbe bei File:Stolperstein Ruhlebener Str 155 (Willst) Käthe Goldstein.jpg und File:Stolperstein Ruhlebener Str 155 (Willst) Gertrud Goldstein.jpg. Beide Bilder waren in unserer Liste der Stolpersteine in Berlin-Wilhelmstadt mit der Beschriftung (Foto des alten Stolpersteins) verlinkt... mit anderen Worten, durch dein Drüberladen hast du einen vorher korrekten Artikel in der Wikipedia in einen falschen verwandelt (weil da ja kein Foto des alten Steins mehr ist). Das sollte sich doch wirklich vermeiden lassen? Verschiebungen und Löschungen

Hallo OTFW, du bist gerade heftig beim Verschieben von Kategorien in Berlin. Dabei ist mir jetzt mehrfach aufgefallen, dass du Kategorieseiten löschen lässt, obwohl sie unter anderem in den deutschen Artikeln als Commonscat verlinkt sind. Du produzierst damit tote Links. Bitte lass das bleiben und lege entweder eine Kategorie-Weiterleitung an oder eine Begriffsklärung. Außerdem passe bitte in anderen Projekten die Links an. Immer vorausgesetzt, dass deine Kategorieverschiebung überhaupt notwendig ist, da habe ich nämlich auch meine Zweifel. de:Reichpietschufer liegt z. B. in Tiergarten und Kreuzberg, du hast alles nach Reichpietschufer (Berlin-Tiergarten) verschoben. Zunächst stellen sich andere Fragen: Ist die Verschiebung überhaupt notwendig? Sollte sie nicht besser von Benutzern mit der Berechtigung zum Verschieben durchgeführt werden, die Seiten ähnlich verschieben können wie Artikel in der de.wp? Wenn du die Richtlinienseite gelesen hast, weißt du, dass verschobene Kategorien nur in absoluten Ausnahmefällen gelöscht werden sollten. Verlinkungen der Kategorien aus anderen Projekten: Zunächst schaust du in de.wp, ob es einen Artikel zu der Straße gibt. Dort suchst du nach einem Commons-Link (steht normalerweise unter Weblinks) und nach Links zu andersprachigen Artikeln. In denen kannst du ebenfalls die Links anpassen. Außerdem müssen auf auf Wikidata der oder die Commons-Links angepasst werden. Und weil das alles extra Aufwand bedeutet, sollten Verschiebungen nur durchgeführt werden, wenn sie einen echten Vorteil bringen. --Sitacuisses (talk) 08:00, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

Nur als Anmerkung: Ich finde die Veschiebung auf eine einheitliche Namensgebung sehr sinnvoll und mache es ebenfalls entsprechend, wenn ich darüber stolpere. In Berlin muss zur Disambiguation teilweise bis auf Ortsteile heruntergebrochen werden. Zum einen, da Straßennamen häufig mehrfach vorkommen (es gibt u.a. acht Kastanienalleen in insgesamt neun Ortsteilen und neun Bahnhofstraßen in zehn Ortsteilen). Zum anderen verhindert das, dass z.B. Gebäude an Straßen indirekt unterhalb von falschen Ortsteilen landen. Zur Zeit besitzen geschätzt 90% der Berliner Straßenkategorien einen Namen der Form "Straßenname (Berlin-Ortsteil)". Die Einheitlichkeit ist äußerst nützlich, da es sie einem erlaubt, den passenden Kategoriennamen "blind" zu erraten, z.B. bei der Kategorisierung, bei der Verlinkung oder beim Aufruf. Jedesmal, wenn der Name nicht dem Schema entspricht, muss ich teilweise ein oder zwei Minuten suchen, bis ich die passende Kategorie gefunden und sichergestellt habe, dass es auch die korrekte Kategorie ist.

Aber natürlich sollte sichergestellt sein, dass die Verlinkungen von anderen Seiten nach wie vor auf die richtige Kategorie zeigen, etwas, was ich zugegebenermaßen auch oft vergesse. Zum Verschieben kann ich empfehlen, einen Antrag auf Commons:Requests for rights auf das filemover-Recht zu stellen. Sehr nützlich. --Sebari (talk) 18:50, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

Fürs Einrichten von Begriffsklärungen gibt es auf Commons übrigens keine Richtlinien, wie es trotzdem gehen kann und häufig gehandhabt wird habe ich eben bei Category:Müllerstraße (Berlin) umgesetzt. --Sitacuisses (talk) 21:58, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

Bei Straßen, die in Berlin mehrere Bezirke durchlaufen, ansonsten aber eindeutige Namen haben wie Reichstagufer ist keine Begriffsklärung notwendig, sondern Category:Reichstagufer kann schlicht als Überkategorie der Bezirks-Teilkategorien stehen bleiben und muss auch nicht gelöscht werden. --Sitacuisses (talk) 22:17, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

Hallo Srittau, ja ich staune manchmal auch, aber wir müssen doch mal fertig werden. Hast Du vielleicht eine Idee, was wir mit den alten nicht mehr vorhandenen Straßen machen können. Selber Hallo, ich dachte Du wolltest sinnvolle Aufgaben abarbeiten, statt dessen gibst Du Dich mit mir ab? Da ja jeder weiß, das "Alt-Marzahn" in "Berlin-Marzahn" liegt, wie die "Marzahner Straße" logischerweise in "Alt-Hohenschönhausen" liegt, kannst Du meine Umbenennung so lassen oder auch nicht, aber wahrscheinlich "leider unvorstellbar in der deutschen Wikipedia, der autorenfeindlichsten und trollfreundlichsten Sprachenwikipedia ever." Also noch einmal: was soll der Sinn dieser Umbenennungen sein? Kannst du mir den Mehrwert dieser offensichtlichen Tautologie namens "Alt-Marzahn (Berlin-Marzahn)" erläutern? Blöd finde ich es schon länger.... Der Sinn soll sein, dass zu jeder Straße der richtige Ortsteil angegeben wird, so dass man erkennt, welche Straße zu welchem Ortsteil gehört. Ich weiss nicht warum Du dass so unnütz findest, die Strassen in ein einheitliches Bild zu bringen? OTFW (talk) 15:59, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
