Image deletion warning Image:Tony Blair with Romano Prodi at G8, cropped to Blair.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:George Tenet portrait headshot.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-2.5 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. St. Elizabeth's Hospital, D.C.

[edit]

Hi,

I saw that you posted a picture in 2006 of the old, abandoned St. Elizabeth's hospital in South East Washington D.C., and I'm wondering if you knew the address for it. You see, I wanted to photograph it and I'm not sure exactly where it's located.

Thanks a lot for your consideration, Z. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Zkhan4 (talk • contribs) at 03:42, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for replying; the map will help. I'm going to try to talk to someone there (rather than sneak around in SouthEast DC by myself; it's scary) and see if it's ok for me to photograph the place before they start building new offices. I think it's worth a try if it still looks anything like the photo you posted. Thanks again for all your help, I really appreciate it! :) The preceding unsigned comment was added by Zkhan4 (talk • contribs) at 20:39, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Images

[edit]

Dear Tom, thanks for letting me know about the lack of source information. However, I'm wondering why it is not uploading with my images? I am selecting all the drop down boxes for licensing info, I'm filling in all the blanks, and I don't see other images needing repeated edits to add source info, so just curious why it isn't working for me. I have added info to all images I've uploaded. Thanks again, ArielGold 06:36, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tom, as I mentioned, I did update all of the images I've uploaded, using that template, but I thought I'd let you know that that template is not on the upload page, nor does it specify it should be used (I went to another image, and simply copied the template from that). I'd just like to note that for someone unfamiliar with the specifics of Commons policy, that template is not even shown as an option when you're uploading a file. There are three fields it asks you to fill in: File name, Summary, and the drop down to select licensing information. So I'd just like to ask for clarification: Do all users who upload images, then have to go back in and edit them to add that description box, after upload? I did try to add that information to the summary box, but it doesn't appear, it appears in the file's history edit summary field instead. See here for what happened when I added it to the "summary" box during upload. I'd appreciate any insight you can offer for me in the future, thanks! ArielGold 11:55, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Aha! Yes, that looks more like what I was expecting. It is just that so far, the only images I've uploaded were NASA (or NOAA) and obviously US Gov images, so I always selected that option from the upload screen. Thanks ever so much! ArielGold 14:33, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tom, I recently created the article William Franklin Draper, and one of his most famous portraits was that of John F. Kennedy, which is on the US Smithsonian's website, here, and larger version here. I'd like to know if this image can be used with Fair Use rationale as a low-resolution Non-free 2D art in the article. Thanks in advance for answering! I uploaded the picture because in that picture, he's the CENTCOM commander, and he's got some more decorations, for example the Navy Distinguished Service Medal... That's a reason to upload a more recent photo, isn't it? Just compare the two photos... Plus, on your photo, he's got only three stars, while on the one I uploaded, he's got 4 stars... So, please next time, don't be TOO quick in reverting images... Thanks! Claudevsq 19:18, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I work with the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. We are preparing an exhibit to commemorate the 200th birthday of Abraham Lincoln to be installed at the Surratt House Museum in Maryland. I've uploaded this image to commons. I mostly upload photos of my own work, so I'm not sure of the legality on this one. I'm not sure that I got the copyright correct. Can you check over it? Thanks!--Sallicio (talk) 20:19, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you've put a notice on my talk page concerning this file. I just transferred it to Commons via CommonsHelper; I've got nothing to do with its sources or anything. Maybe you should take a look at the circumstances under which a picture has been uploaded. I only do the job the people in en-WP are obviously not able to do: transferring the pics to Commons which are needed in any WP project, not only in the english language WP. Don't blame me for missing licences. You should ask the person who uploaded it to en-WP. --Scooter (talk) 23:50, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Genevieve Nnaji's picture

[edit]

Hi. Your assistance is needed in this case here. A few days ago I uploaded this picture to wikimedia commons. I then got the written email permission from the owner of the picture and forwarded the email to permissions-commons-at-wikimedia.org. After that I contacted someone with an OTRS account, Trixt. Trixt confirmed the permission and fully released the picture under the required license. A few days later Trixt tagged the picture with the "Personality rights warning" tag. I asked Trixt why this is being done. You can read the reply of Trixt here and here on our talk pages. Finally, Trixt wrote me, saying that his english is bad, that I should get in touch with an English admin, that he doesn't know what to do.

I have checked through many wikipedia pages and have taken a close look at the pictures used from wikimedia commons. There are loads of pictures that do not have the "Personality rights warning" tag. Trixt claims that all pictures of living people should have that tag. This claim makes the whole issue suspicious. If all pictures of living people must be tagged with the "Personality rights warning", and the only way to properly upload pictures into wikimedia-commons is to get the approval of someone with an OTRS account, then what happened to all those pictures AFTER they were confirmed by someone with an OTRS account? How come those people with OTRS accounts didn't immediately tag these pictures with the "Personality rights warning" tag, the way Trixt did to the picture I uploaded? This looks like a double standard, and I thusly ask you to look into this and please remove the "Personality rights warning" tag from the picture in question.

The picture in question shows a nigerian actress, Genevieve Nnaji, in 2008 at a public event, the launch of Genevieve's new fashion label. Genevieve Nnaji is one of the top nigerian Nollywood actresses. She is also a model. Her pictures are all over Nigeria and Africa on billboards (she is the Face of Lux 2004), and she has played in over 100 Nollywood movies. Thus Genevieve Nnaji is a "person of contemporary history". She is a public figure. The picture I uploaded was taken by Niyi Tabiti, a nigerian journalist. Mr Tabiti has fully agreed to the full usage of the picture under wikimedia commons license. There are no personality right infringed with the usage of this picture. If wikimedia-commons claims, like Trixt does, that all pictures of living persons SHOULD be tagged, then this rule must apply to all pictures on wikimedia-commons. The fact that wikimedia-commons has thousands of pictures of living persons without the "Personality rights warning" proves that different standards are being applied to different pictures. I thereby ask you to please remove the "Personality rights warning" from this picture. Thank you.

Hello, Tom!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

We need your help at the Wikiproject medicine

[edit]

Hello, Sorry for spaming your talk page, but this is very important. On the behalf of the Wikiproject medicine at the en.wikipedia, I am inviting you to be a part of the discussion going on the project's talk page about Patient images, The discussion started after I obtained a permission to more than 23000 dermatology related images, and about 1500 radiology images. As some editors of the Wikiproject medicine have some concerns regarding the policy of using patient images on wikipedia, and regarding patient consents. Also they believe that common's policy is not so clear regarding the issue. And since you are the experts please join us at this very important discussion -- MaenK.A.Talk 14:24, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ed Case, official photo portrait color.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. I'm not sure how you usually do things on Commons, but can I go ahead and make the moves requested at Commons:Categories for discussion/2010/12/Category:Delegates to the House of Representatives? Thanks for uploading File:Robert Odle, photo portrait, Nixon administration, black and white.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.
