Kashmir is a Himalayan region in the northwestern part of the Indian subcontinent. The region is divided among three countries in a territorial dispute: ► Pakistan controls Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir in the northwest portion; ► India controls the central, southern, and eastern portions (Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh); and the ► People's Republic of China controls the northeastern portion (the Trans-Karakoram tract and Aksai Chin).
