Hello, Robert Ferrieux!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hi Robert Ferrieux,
you should not publish personal data as the email address and mail address of the photographer of this image. Instead you should forward her original email to the email address provided on OTRS. As these data are fully visible in the upload-log of your image, you should re-upload the images under a slightly different name, so that we can delete the initial uploads. --Túrelio (talk) 07:49, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi Túrelio

I realise I've made a blunder. I can't manage to upload the photos again, since I'm informed every time that I'm uploading an existing file. Please advise me on this.
Moreover, I've never been able to categorize my uploads correctly. Obviously there's something wrong in my upload procedure.
Would you kindly use my user page on the French site of Wikipedia? Many thanks. Robert Ferrieux (talk) 08:09, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi Robert,
I hope you have already or will soon forward the permission email from the photographer of the old lady to the email address shown on OTRS. To avoid problems with the images in between, I've tagged them with OTRS pending, thereby signaling that you have send the permission already.

Please use my French talkpage for your reply. Thanks.
Cordialement, Robert Ferrieux (talk) 00:36, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

Les autorisations concernant M._M. Dubois ont à nouveau été réexpédiées. Robert Ferrieux (talk) 04:09, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
Bonjour,
Cordialement--Bapti 09:25, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Robert_Schuman_et_Mgr_Angelo_Roncalli.jpg
Cordialement, Robert Ferrieux (talk) 22:26, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
PS. Est-il possible d'utiliser ma PDD française ? Merci.

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Thanks for uploading File:Dickens's Swiss chalet.jpeg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the OTRS system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. Thank you.

Thanks for uploading File:Anguswilson.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or send an email with copy of a written permission to OTRS (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). This also applies if you are the author yourself.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, and Commons:Permission if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own.

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the OTRS-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Anguswilson.jpg) and the above demanded information in your request.

Thanks for uploading File:Sébastien Martins (mai 2015).jpeg.

Thank you.

Thanks a lot.I expected such a reaction, but not so soon. I don't know how to provide the right license. For aught I know, the photo might be free of rights. I could have cheated and said it was my own work, as I know Sébastien Martins personally. But my honesty rightly pricked my conscience and the price to pay will probably be the removal of this image from Commons. It doesn't really matter, it's not that important. Please do what you think is best. With every good wish, Robert. --RF sesquipedalia verba (talk) 11:51, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
