I don't speak english very well, but I would like to thank you for all the beautiful pictures you release under a free licence. Okki (talk) 09:09, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notification and question on Usertemplate[edit]

Hi Glenn, thanks first for your interesting informations you gave me per email and for the new photo you uploaded later. I came here to notice you on an old account maybe you created: User:ToGlenn, if you do some maintenance in future please remember this 4 uploads you did with the account. I also saw the deletion of the image above and restored it, unfortunately I am not longer able to see the mainpage of your "released" gallery on photo.imageevent indicating the validity of the cc license, this was very helpful for other users who do not know that there are indeed a small number of professional photographers on Wikipedia and Commons. Please consider, that taking professional photos of prominent persons is a opportunity given only to a sparse number of persons, so it is very hard to separate the rare number of good contributors from the bad. --Martin H. (talk) 11:48, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, i found the working link: http://imageevent.com/glennfrancis/releasedimages?z=3&l=0&c=6&n=1&m=60&w=4&x=0&p=40. Maybe it would help to create a User category for you, like Category:Photographs by Glenn Francis, thats one category only with your images. Another idea would be to create a Usertemplate. An example: File:Bernd Schneider 2007 amk.jpg uses a usertemplate, Template:AngMoKioCredit, giving informations about the way of attribution and the photographer. You can also include a weblink in this template, so that if you will change your web presence in future you simply need to change ONE link on your template. You can also post a small number of other stuff on the template, maybe the link to your myspace, your photo or whatevery you want. Back to the example: the usertemplate of AngMoKio sorts the images into Category:Photographs by User:AngMoKio - so he kills two birds with one stone. The only thing he has do to is adding {{AngMoKioCredit}} to his images. If you are interested i can create a similar template for you and i can also ad it to your images, its done in no time. You only must fill the created template with the correct text. --Martin H. (talk) 12:00, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Martin H. First I want to THANK YOU for creating the the thing you created for me that allowed my photos to quickly get approved for usage. What you created worked perfectly! Thank You, Thank You!!! Toglenn (talk) 14:55, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deletions[edit]

Hi Glenn, I deleted File:Khole Kardashian 2009.jpg (bad name) and File:Christa Campbell 2009.jpg (A.Patridge) per your requested, please upload the images under the suitable name. The fastest way to remove badnames is doing a reupload and mark the old image with {{badname|newname.jpg}}, but without a duplicate upload this will not work. --Martin H. (talk) 15:46, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Thanks Martin.  :)

Hi Glenn, you not added the User:Toglenn/Credits here. If your credit template needs correction or you need another version (different attribution, weblink, e.g.) please tell me. --Martin H. (talk) 05:07, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Martin, thanks for reminding me - I simply forgot.

But now that you mention it, there is a change I'd like made. Instead of: www.imageevent.com/glennfrancis could you replace it with: www.myspace.com/glennfrancis

Thanks for all you do for me.

-Glenn Toglenn (talk) 05:24, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yes, I see, the imageevent link is dead. Do you prefer
  1. www.myspace.com/glennfrancis
  2. www.myspace.com/glennfrancis
The second link leads to the gallery, the first to your profile. I hate myspace that in the foto galleries they not mention the name of the profile but only a backlink "back to profile" (if it is called like this, for me it reads "Zurück zum Profil" in german). Do you prefer 1. or 2.? --Martin H. (talk) 05:35, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm guessing the Albums would be best, since many people not familiar with Myspace my not know to click on "pics" under my picture and may not know that link opens up into a bunch of albums.

what do you think is better?

thanks..... Toglenn (talk) 05:53, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the album. There is also a link to your myspace profile in the template, klick the photo :) --Martin H. (talk) 06:02, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, go with the link to the Albums. Thanks!

Toglenn (talk) 06:05, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm also thinking of posting some photos of me on my User page. I have a lot of photos of me with celebrities, and I'd like to post some of those. I'm thinking of something that looks just like a myspace album where I can just upload photos which will automatically go into a box where I can add a caption to each photo. another description is that my User page will look similar to my Gallery page, only with captions under the photos

thanks

If you mean posting to Wiki: Do so! As long as you are the copyright holder. For photographs someone else made of you on your requst Wikimedians assume that you are the copyright holder if you are sure that the photographer will not call for any rights. Creating a gallery with captions on Wikis is realy simple, see w:en:Wikipedia:Gallery tag. If you upload a photo showing you with some celebrity and Wikipedia not yet have a good photo of that celebritiy users will create derivative versions of your upload. This will result in images like File:Michael Jackson 1988.jpg with all other persons, you, removed ;) --Martin H. (talk) 06:30, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ah, yes, good points about the copyrights and other people butchering my photos and cutting me out for the celebrity! hehe. Yeah, I'll have the copyright stuff straightened out for anything I decide to post. Speaking of Michael Jackson, I happen to have some stuff from during the recording of "We Are The World" I was the only photographer allowed inside certain protected Musicians only areas of the studio during the recordings. I'll have to find those......

Hey![edit]

lol - you photographed the most interesting man in the world! Seriously Glenn, I am such a fan of your work, and I hope you know, even when it is not said repeatedly, that you are one of the finest celebrity photographers we have on Wikimedia. Thank you for the high resolutions. --David Shankbone (talk) 15:19, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi David,

Thanks again.... (didn't know she was a he until I posted it on Wikipedia). I just clicked onto your Blog-Website - Most Impressive! Love your articles, and it's especially nice receiving praise from another photographer, particularly one as accomplished as you.

Thanks Mahanga! It's always encouraging to hear my work has been recognized! Toglenn (talk) 20:00, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just looking at your latest photos... y'know it's starting to get stale. Don't you ever get bored of posting perfect shots on Commons? I mean, look at File:Julia Ann 2010.jpg... how is any one else supposed to contribute a photo of her after seeing that? <G> But seriously, love your work and keep it up!! Tabercil (talk) 23:59, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tabercil - Thank you so much for the compliment on my photos.... I try my best! Glad you like my shot of Julia Ann. She is quite beautiful both in person and on film, and I hope I captured that. I strive to capture the beauty in everyone I photograph.

Photo request[edit]

Hi Glenn - I was asked on English Wikipedia to keep an eye out for w:Lady Gaga, and I thought I would pass it along to you as well since you are on the other side of the country. By the way, a great resource for photographs is Barnes & Noble author events. In the last few weeks I have shot w:Gore Vidal, w:Tracy Morgan, w:Nick Cave, w:RZA (only photographer there!) and w:Jane Goodall (not the best photo, as I was an audience member and not a photographer at the event) at their stores. It might be worth it to you to check out www.bn.com and enter your zip code in "Stores and events" search. The only problem with the B&Ns in NYC is that the lighting is terrible in all their stores, and my camera is pretty crappy in low light. --David Shankbone (talk) 18:04, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi David,

Thanks for the tip! It's always nice when other photographers share something they know with others.

I'll keep a lookout for Lady Gaga, I just missed her not too long ago.

Toglenn (talk) 12:37, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Glenn, that image is from your camera. Did you gave any permission - or better asking: Do you know if this is from someone official who also recently created a new Kaki West article who has a permission for this photo from you? Thanks, --Martin H. (talk) 23:21, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Martin,

Thanks for letting me know about the usage of my photo of Kaki West. I sent this shot to Kaki sometime shortly after I took it and never published it. It appears she contacted someone to create this page for her and this was the photo she wanted for her page. That's OK with me, but to make it all legit, how about if I upload the photo myself and and put my uploaded photo on her page and then you delete the one that is currently on WikiCommons?

Thanks.... -Glenn

Toglenn (talk) 01:04, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Glenn, in the German language Wikipedia I give every few weeks a flower to a Wikipedian as a thank for his or hers contributions. Today the fourth season starts and for the first time I want to go international. I wish to thank you for your great photos, especially portrait photos of actresses in adult entertainment. Your virtually perfect photos give them a face and do not show them like an object. Many thanks and a nice week wishes Ephraim33 (talk) 16:00, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Standard fashion topics[edit]

Working for the moment on simple:WP I've put up a few pages on standard fashion topics: people (Coco Chanel, Dior, Gianni Versace, Mary Quant...) and topics (veil, petticoat...). I keep running up against the problem that Commons has few good items in this field, and few by the top designers. Search 'miniskirt ' or 'hotpants' and see that classy designs are just not there. Coming to the point (& not a moment too soon, you will think!) I notice some beautiful examples in your web collection of photos. I'm writing to see if you would be willing to upload some of them to Commons. Here we go, from your BEBE set:

  • First page, top row #2: feathery minidress.
  • First page, third row #s3 & 4: hotpants/short shorts.
  • Second page, first line #4: black minidress.

No doubt you have many more; these struck me as good from a teaching point of view, because they show that leg-revealing clothes need not be vulgar. Oh, I should mention that Simple can only use graphics from Commons; we can't upload directly. Regards. Macdonald-Ross (talk) 09:40, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong photo or wrong name?[edit]

Hi Glenn,
the beautiful woman on your photo is not Ashley Peldon (!), it's her sister Courtney Peldon.
There are a lot of photos on IMDb with Courtney:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0670780/mediaindex

...and here are the photos of her sister Ashley:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0670779/mediaindex

80.134.225.99 20:00, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I just requested the File name to be changed from Ashley to Courtney, and then I'll Post this photo on Courtney's page. Toglenn (talk) 23:23, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hang on... not so fast. I checked the WireImage files for the event - they have this person identified as Ashley, not Courtney. See here. Tabercil (talk) 00:11, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Tabercil,
I'm sorry to tell you, but...
...the photos on WireImage are wrong too!
Please compare the pictures between Courtney
http://www.google.com/images?hl=de&q=courtney%20peldon&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1600&bih=1018
...and Ashley...
http://www.google.com/images?hl=de&q=ashley%20peldon&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1600&bih=1018
...and you'll see the difference.
I think, the IMDb is the right reference to decide that the woman on the photo from Glenn is Courtney.
80.134.243.157 21:04, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, WireImage or ANY celebrity photo agency is definately NOT a reliable source. I see mistakes galore on a regular basis, and I've made them myself more times than I want to remember. I believe WireImage is where I got my information from for this photo. PRPHOTOS.com (another similar agency) is listing her as Courtney. http://www.prphotos.com/store/category.cgi?category=search&query=^efts.sql&searchtype=efts&index=all&q1=courtney%20peldon

Thanks..... Glenn Toglenn (talk) 22:16, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I checked further than just WireImage... Getty, Zimbio and FilmMagic all have it as Courtney, not Ashley. It's just that I'm used to hitting just WireImage as it has the friendliest interface of the sites for searching for copyvio images. I'll revert my edits and make the move. File:Lauren Mayhew 2009.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Photo[edit]

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me, do not know how to upload photos to wikimedia through flicker. The author modified the license to be uploaded, but do not know how, can you help? Can you help me uploading in or telling me someone who can do for me?. The photo is from the Mexican singer Anahí Puente, during his tour "Mi Delirio World Tour".

Linking to source[edit]

Hi Toglenn. I see you never directly link to the source; you add {own work} (or a variation of that) instead of {{own work}}. The latter makes that it's automatically translated to different languages, while the first stays "own work" if you know what I mean. Is there a reason why you do it this way? Or didn't you just know about it? Trijnsteltalk 11:39, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Trijnstel, Thanks for catching that. My intention is to use 2 curved brackets per side instead of one. Prior to the recent changes in the upload form, this was automatically filled in - but now that I have to do it myself, I always forget if it's supposed to be one or two brackets per side. Now I know it's supposed to 2 per side and why. Thanks for the explanation. Please make the corrections if you see any more with only one bracket per side. -Glenn Toglenn (talk) 16:25, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Jillian Janson 2 2015.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Oh, and by searching for the links I also found these. There are just too many great photos;): Dana DeArmond (would be better then the current one in her article with the gray clothing, I guess), Holly Randall (although later I noticed that a really great photo from you was already waiting, hidden in the Cat), Francesca Le, Romi Rain, London Keyes, Carter Cruise, Valentina Nappi, Akira Lane and Katie Morgan. --SamWinchester000 (talk) 14:39, 3 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Miss Kansas Teen USA[edit]

Hi Glenn…my name is Troy Moore and I am the father of the 2016 Kansas Teen USA Madison Moore. The photo you have posted on Wikipedia is NOT accurate to the actual Madison Moore. I would appreciate it if you would remove that so we can post the actual girl.

Subsequently, my other daughter Malerie Moore was just crowned by her sister Madison last month as the new 2017 Kansas Teen USA. It would be great if these girls were given the credit they deserve. Unfortunately, we are unable to remove your photo. As their father, I would appreciate if you could take care of that for us.

Thanks so much!

Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

File:Commercial Exchange Building 2017.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Thank you!

Impressive contributions[edit]

I happened across your work today. Looking at your talk page, you've received many thanks before. That of course is certainly no reason to not give you more praise. THANK YOU for your tremendous efforts in improving the availability of free license images, most especially of such high quality. If we had 1000 clones of you around the world, it still wouldn't be enough...which makes your work all the more precious and all the more appreciated. Thank you, thank you, a thousand times thank you. --Hammersoft (talk) 14:52, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wow! Thank you Hammersoft! That is quite a well written compliment - the best I've ever heard - doubly so coming from a Wikipedia editor of your stature. Thank you so much! Made my day!  :) Toglenn (talk) 06:56, 12 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pay attention to copyright
File:Ella Silver Pet of the Month Nov 2018 - by Glenn Francis.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request.

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

THANK YOU and question[edit]

I have a photo of a bishop that I took myself. Does Wikipedia allow me to post his image to the article mentioning him. So this is the article. I have an image of Bishop Youssef (Joseph), Bishop of the Holy Diocese of Santa Cruz and All Bolivia. I took the image when I was chauffering him and a monk around Puerto Rico. They were thinking of a Coptic church in Puerto Rico. I'm asking because I don't know much about how images re: living people works on Wikipedia. I thought you wouldn't mind just letting me know yes or no, about whether the image would be accepted or deleted. Thanks and you really do beautiful work. Bad Bunny at the Pornhub awards is just beautiful and I bet the Pornhubs awards was interesting fun for you both. :0) --The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 22:45, 24 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User: The Eloquent Peasant, Thanks for the compliment on my photos - much Appreciated! Regarding Photos - about 95% of my photos on Wikipedia/Commons are of living people. I know of no special concern other that you are the copyright owner (which you are since you took the photo) and that you choose a License - You'll probably have to send in a form declaring you are the copyright holder. That being done, I see no reason why WikiCommons would reject the photo. Regarding Placing the photo on the page, once you receive the acceptance, since there is no existing photo, go ahead and place it with a caption. Hopefully no one will revert it. Thanks! -Glenn

If I submit a "form" do I have to use my real name on the license release? Thanks again! Sorry to keep asking things.. Thanks for your time.--The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 19:36, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User: The Eloquent Peasant, I don't know the answer to that one since I use my real name.Toglenn (talk) 23:15, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
