Fehler
--High Contrast (talk) 18:09, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
Sowei so gut. Wie soll nun verfahren werden? --High Contrast (talk) 19:25, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

re: M14
As the description says, it is an M39 EMR, as opposed to the similar, but distinct, M14 DMR. There is no category, to my knowledge, because there are only two images of it. Bahamut0013 (talk) 21:02, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
- The EMR is a replacement for the DMR, not an update. They are both iterations of the old M14, but still quite distinct weapons. The fact that the military has gone through the trouble to create an entirely new nomenclature, instead of appending a subsequent version number, is the most telling evidence of the difference. I could go into the barrel, action, stock, optics, and other accessories if you like. Bahamut0013 (talk) 02:43, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
- Well, to put it succinctly, they are all different. Most obvious is that the DMR has a green fiberglass stock that closely resembles the original M14 (except for the pistol grip), wheras the EMR uses an all-metal frame with a collapsable butt and Picatinny rails. The barrels are slightly different lengths with different treatments and manufacturers (and I believe, but not 100% certain, different rifling ratios), and the EMR's is free-floating while the DMR's is fixed. The optics typically issued with the DMR are commercial Leupold or Unertl scopes, while the EMR utilizes the M8541 Scout Sniper Day Scope as part of a standard set; both can use the gamut of military night vision and other specialty optics, or just about anything that will attach to a Picatinny rail. The bipods are essentially the same, but the EMR manual claims it is a nominally improved version of the Harris S-L (I do see a cosmetic difference, but not much in functionality IMO). As the articles I've linked to note, the EMR is noticably heavier by a few pounds without any accessories, and significantly more with all of its associated optics, accessories, and fully loaded. They do use the same ammunition, and I believe the magazines are at least interchangable if not identical, but that's speculation on my part because I haven't been abl to directly compare the magazines. The only images of the EMR I have been able to find online depict the M14 muzzle brake (which the DMRs have as well), but the only EMRs I've personally handled had a modified brake. The EMR uses a modified gas operating system, while the DMR's is not significantly different from the M14's. Additionally, the iron sights on the DMR are essentially unchanged, while the EMR's are improved. The EMR's trigger mechanism is also far more accurized than the DMR's was. I would love to be able to publish the User's and Repair manuals, but the Marine Corps online technical publications library is restricted to those with CAC access, and they are FOUO anyway. You could submit a Freedom of Information Act request for them, if you were so inclined.
- I hope that clears the issue up. If you have any more questions, I would be happy to answer them to the best of my ability. If you can dispute any of what I've said, I would love to see your sources. If nothing else, the article on Wikipedia needs more. Bahamut0013 (talk) 01:52, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Hello Sanandros.
You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful. This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions. |

Files you uploaded may be deleted
The files listed below, which you uploaded, have been tagged {{OTRS pending}} for more than 30 days. This tag indicates that an email setting out permission to use the file was sent to the OTRS team. Unfortunately, we cannot find any record that such an email has been received, and accordingly the file remains without permission. Unless the OTRS team receives evidence that permission has been granted within 15 days of today's date, the file will be deleted. If you have not sent the permission, please send it to "permissions-commonswikimedia.org" now. Please quote the file name in your email. If you have, please leave a message at the OTRS noticeboard, quoting the file name, so that a volunteer can follow this up. Alternatively, you can contact an OTRS volunteer directly. Please note that this message is being left by an automated bot, whose operator is not an OTRS volunteer, therefore please do not send this information to me, as it will not save your images from deletion. M16 vs M4
Hey, most of the rifles pictured by the IDF Spokeunit are M16, not M4. The main difference in pcitures is the special barrel of the M4, see picture in right for example. regrads, Netanel h (talk) 18:29, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
- Ok i'm semi convinced, cause the barrel looks ok but the handguard is too long for a M4 but too short for a M16. Also the only M16 without A1 or A2 buttstock is the M16A2E2. Can u tell me which version it is or is it a licensed M16?--Sanandros (talk) 22:57, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
- There is a lot of variants of the M16 \ AR-15, and some are short version, which are very popular in the IDF, much more than the long version. there is also a version of old M16A1\M16A2 which were cutted to be a short version, usually in use for soldiers in training. see picture here for the differences between the 3 types: the long rifle is a regular M16, below short M16, and in the bottom 'cut off' M16A1\2. - Ok and who is producing the shortbarreled M16?--Sanandros (talk) 08:25, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
- I believe shortbarreled M16 is made by the same manufacturers of the long-barreled M16. There are a lot of M-16 variants, some of them are shortbarreled, and it may produced by the same nanufacturers. The 'cut-off' version in the IDF are made by the IDF itself, mainly because it is cheaper to cut old long-barreled M16, than to buy a new one short. Netanel h (talk) 19:32, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi,
There is also a release number on this picture, 100526-A-9209M-52, could you confirm it's a US valid one, and if so, from which force? --Dereckson (talk) 00:09, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
P.S. I found 10 others John Scott Rafoss pictures, so thank you again for your search and clarification.
- Hmm that's a difficult pic the VIRIN indicates that it is an Army pic. Part of that VIRIN is the Vision ID wich indentifies the fotografer, in this case 9209M. But somehow I found two fotographers with that ID: Maria Moy (scroll down) and Michal Mitztka. But I coulnd't fine any other pics of Maria Moy with VIRINs so I think its associated with Michal. As there also exist other pics form Afghanistan with him. But a better proof I couldn't find. And your welcome to help you with the pics of Scott Rafoss.--Sanandros (talk) 00:20, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
- So the best is to keep our PD-USGov-Military-Army template (it's an -A-) and note the two authors as possible ones? --Dereckson (talk) 07:58, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
- I'd say it's Michal Mitzka and not Maria Moy who took the pic, cause i found also a pic shot in April 2010 and the pic from up is June. Our questionable pic is May, and Michal Mitzka was in June also there. Addinonaly the ISAF never published a pic of Maria Moy.--Sanandros (talk) 21:49, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

RAID pics
May u plz proof the copyright violation? Thx--Sanandros (talk) 16:51, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

- May u eventually check if the RAID badge has really a own copyright by the photographer it self? For me this looks like "This is a faithful photographic reproduction of an original two-dimensional work" and at least on German WP the RAID badge is PD (in France also?) as it is a governmental work which is used mostly in governmental ways. Maybe u could discuss it with other (German) admins.--Sanandros (talk) 16:42, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- In France, the governmental work is unfortunately under copyright in opposition to the USA for exemple. I don't see why this picture could be under public domain (I have deleted it among other copyvios).--Bapti ✉ 15:10, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
- But we can eventually upload it again on german WP under PD-Govermental Works which includes logos which are mainly for governmental use. As we for example uploaded the logo of the Israeli intelligence service AMAN.--Sanandros (talk) 17:04, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:ShabakLogo.gif
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:ShabakLogo.gif. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Hallo!

Congratulations, Dear Reviewer
Hi Sanandros, thanks for your application to be an image reviewer. The application has been removed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. You can review all kind of image licenses on Commons. Please see Commons:License review and Commons:Flickr files if you haven't done so already. We also have a guide how to detect copyright violations. Backlogs include Flickr review, Picasa review, Panoramio review, and files from other sources. You can use one of the following scripts by adding one of the lines to your common.js:
- importScript('User:ZooFari/licensereviewer.js'); // stable script for reviewing images from any kind of source OR
- importScript('User:Rillke/LicenseReview.js'); // contains also user notification when review fails, auto blacklist-check and auto-thank you message for Flickr-reviews.
You can also add {{User reviewer}} or {{User trusted}} to your user page if you wish. Thank you for your contributions on Commons! Armbrust (talk) 18:13, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
Hi, please use useful categories and don't over-categorize your images, i.e. please do not categorize your uploads (an example of your recent activity):
- Category:Politicians of India = {categorise}
- Category:Prayers
- Category:Religion in India = {categorise}
- Category:Kolkata = {categorise}
etc.
You'll help to save time and capacity on commons by categorizing:
- Category:Politicians of West Bengal and for example Category:People of Kolkata, Category:Hinduism in stateORterritoy or Category:Puja etc.
Please use as far as possible the 'most fitting"' category(ies). Do not add - in addition - the categories of the "parent category", among them cities, states and countries etc.
For further information on categories please read Commons:Categories referring to an accurate categorisation, simplifying your further uploads and categorisation in general. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the commons:help desk.
Thank you for your assistance, Roland 18:51, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
- That with Calcutta I could have done (even it's not so common to have a cat for the people of a town), but with the others I was not sure if the Politicians are really West Bengal or coming from all over India and also with the Religion i was not sure if that was really Hindu. And btw the pics are not mine they are done by Al Jazeera English and a lot more of theme need some categorization--Sanandros (talk) 19:36, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

IMHO

Your assistance please
You recently deleted File:House searches in Parwan -a.jpg in favour of File:Defense.gov News Photo 110221-A-3304L-105 - U.S. Army Sgt. Robert Streeter scans a nearby hilltop during a search of the Qual-e Jala village Parwan province Afghanistan on Feb. 21 2011.jpg. The file you kept was uploaded months after the picture was taken. Can I ask when the image you deleted was uploaded? Geo Swan (talk) 03:54, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
- The file u uploaded had approximately 1000px while the Defense.mil version has more than 3000px. I hope you can understand that right now.--Sanandros (talk) 00:20, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
- Please appreciate that the project's human contributors are volunteers. Robot uploaders, on the other hand, can't quit, can't have their feelings hurt. I suggest, all other things being equal, it should be the image uploaded by the human volunteer which should be kept. It requires wise human judgment to properly categorize images. Almost no robot uploaded images are well categorized. Many robot uploaded images never get wisely categorized.
- You added three categories to a robot uploaded image. Were those the categories that had been added to the human uploaded image by sentient humans? Did you copy over all the categories? What was the original URL of the human uploaded image?
- Alternately, you could have added the URL of the robot uploaded image to the {{Information}} template of the human uploaded image, uploaded the higher resolution image found by the robot over the smaller human uploaded image, and then deleted the robot uploaded duplicate.
- Note, the name of the human uploaded image implies the image was one of a series. So, throwing away the URL used by the human uploader was a mistake as it robs interested parties of a route to find the related images in that series.
- Personally, I think this would have been a particularly good choice, if the human uploaded image came first.
- So, I am going to repeat the question you did not choose to answer: when was the human uploaded image uploaded.
- Let my thanks here be proportional to the effort you make to be helpful. Geo Swan (talk) 16:49, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
- I'm sorry to hurt your feelings but I had also to learn that my pics where deleted cause we've uplod new pics by bots wich r better.--Sanandros (talk) 08:01, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
- The versions of images uploaded by robots aren't necessarily "better" images. Many robot uploaded images remain essentially unclassified because the classification used by the robot uploaders are almost worthless and not even one wise and experienced human being has spent any time figuring out what categories the image should really be in. Human uploaded images are much more likely to have been wisely categorized.
- No, simply copying over the categories from the human uploaded image, to robot uploaded image, prior to deleting it, is not equivalent to copying the possibly superior robot uploaded image over the human uploaded image, because deleting the human uploaded image deletes its revision history. That revision history may have recorded a useful discussion over which categories the image belonged in. And you lose that when you show preference to the robot image.
- "Those who can't remember history are doomed to repeat it." The political scientist who said this was referring to political history. But the aphorism applies equally to revision history. By deleting the history of the human uploaded image you curse us into repeating discussion encoded in the edit summaries of the deleted image's revision history and talk page.
- Not all images have interesting revision histories, but, for those that do, I suggest your practice is actually hightly disruptive, due to the potential duplication of effort you curse us to. And I encourage you to reconsider your approach.
- I think you will agree, if it you give this issue any serious thought, that having millions of potentially useful images is not what makes the wikimedia commons useful. Rather, what makes it useful, is the tools we provide that help potential users find the images they might find useful. The uploading, whether by human or robot, is only the first step, and not the most important part. Wise and intelligent classification is far more important. Sorry, but your current approach undermines that effort. Geo Swan (talk) 14:51, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

- Ok, gut, ich verstehe jetzt, was Du machen wolltest.

Grüße, --El Grafo (talk) 11:56, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

regarding diff Thank ya, I just looked up "Joint Special Operations Command" in hotcat and saw it wasn't there. I didn't think to add "United States" to it since there's nothing else named Joint Special Operations Command. Thanks for correcting that. Dainomite (talk) 07:44, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

Hallo!
--High Contrast (talk) 10:52, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
