Republik Indonesia adalah negara kepulauan terbesar di dunia yang terletak di Asia Tenggara, melintang di khatulistiwa antara benua Asia dan Australia serta antara Samudra Pasifik dan Samudra Hindia. Karena letaknya yang berada di antara dua benua dan dua samudra, ia disebut juga Nusantara (Kepulauan Antara). Indonesia berbatasan dengan Malaysia di pulau Kalimantan, dengan Papua Nugini di pulau Papua, dan dengan Timor Timur di pulau Timor. Sejak bekas provinsi Indonesia ini (Timor Timur) memutuskan untuk merdeka sebagai hasil referendum tahun 1999, ia berganti nama yaitu Timor Leste.

The Republic of Indonesia is a nation of 17,508 islands in the South East Asian archipelago, making it the world's largest archipelagic state. With a population of over 200 million, it is the world's fourth most populous country and the most populous Muslim-majority nation. Indonesia is the world's third largest democracy after India and the U.S. Its capital is Jakarta and it shares land borders with ► Papua New Guinea, ► East Timor, and ► Malaysia. North of Indonesia lie ► Singapore, ► Vietnam, ► the People's Republic of China, the ► Spratly Islands, ► Taiwan, and the ► Philippines (including the ► Bangsamoro region) and south of Indonesia lie the ► Ashmore and Cartier Islands, ► Christmas Island and the ► Cocos (Keeling) Islands, as well as ► Australia In the north west it includes the autonomius region of ► Aceh.
