Categories for your images[edit]

Hello Trisorn Triboon, please do not over-categorize your images! It is a lot of work to remove all those general categories. Please use just the most detailed categories (as they are subcategories of all general categories). Not "Plantae" and "Plants", but "Unidentified plants in Thailand. See here for an example. Thanks, --Thiotrix (talk) 11:11, 29 June 2018 (UTC) Great thank you good to know about that I am learning. Can you Kindly let me know about a few thing ? --Tris T7 (talk) 02:59, 1 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ภาพถ่ายงานพระเมรุ ร.9[edit]

Dear Jim First of all Thank you for letting me know about this issue let me explain my reason a bit Wikimedia Commons accepts free content from user who own the copyrights of the images and content i am photographed those Character by myself and for article involve or related to those subject only and not allow anyone to use for commercial use or adapt or remix anything on those files i owned the copyrights for it. There are options for the term of usage on copyrights so please understand even Walt Disney can not use the images that i photographed during my trip to celebrated 90 year Mickey Mouse Anniversary. All of Character of Disney have been organized for public so anyone can photographs them i can use those images for Specific article of each character and related article. and for Anniversary of Mickey Mouse also witness for new record for Guinness world record they had set last night as of 18/11/2018 as 90 years Birthday of Mickey Mouse and i have got press pass because i owned one of media company and advertising in Thailand. I have used the images for anything for knowledge but not commercial use so do not worry i can handle for legal issue if it appear but do not think that would happen.

you can also see many of others pictures i photographed and use for encyclopedia for reflect article about them so i don't think it will be the case to worry. Also i have document of usage of it as i told you i have press pass from my close friend and as i am member of press. About violation of copyrights i don't think have done that as of metadata shown it have been photographed by my agency rights and copyrights belong to photographer and this event set in public for celebration and allow anyone to photograph it is difference if someone go to Disney Land or Disney world of course that might violation for copyrights but also i do not think it will be a case if they paid to get in they should allow the customer to use for encyclopedia but not commercial usage. so if we use it for Wiki project i am confident we are safe. If Wikimedia Commons admin believed i did violate for any of images they would direct contact to me or if they have right to delete it they would delete it by now. but of course they should respect contributor by asking permission before they do anything with my files i own copyrights for. So i will try to organized Apache License in a few day for all images to protect my rights as well if someone use them for commercial use i will take legal action to the person who cross on my copyrights.

Anyway keep in touch and keep a good work. Thank you again for letting me know and thankful support.

Tris T.

by the way i am member of Phabricator if some of case happen or you seek for support let me know do not hesitate to ask. and last thing "DO NOT AFRAID TO MAKE THINGS IN WIKI OR DARE TO DO SOMETHING EVEN IT MAY NOT ALL RIGHTS BUT IF IT USEFUL FOR OTHERS BECAUSE WIKI WILL NOT GET DAMAGES IT ALWAYS CAN REVERT" CHEERsTris T7 08:13, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

File:Numerals by Trisorn Triboon.186.jpg
● Pointless image
● Unhelpful title (File:Numerals by Trisorn Triboon.186.jpg)
● Spammy categorisation in Numerals and Numbers (diff)

@Tris T7: Please do not expect other people to teach you basic decency in the digital world. Just ask yourself where your images will easy to find for someone who wants to find them, without obstructing people from finding other images. When a general category contains 90% very similar images by you, mixed with 10% other images, you ought to know that this does not help anyone to find the images they are looking for. As a rule, you can assume that when you avoid work categorizing your images, you in fact impose work on others. I have started to categorize your letter images in Letters on colored background (image set) in such a way, that they do not clutter categories A-Z. I suggest that you read Commons:Image sets before you upload more image sets.
I have to add, that your letter and number images may be among the most pointless that have ever been uploaded to Commons. By uploading large numbers of images like this, you create more work for other users than it took you to create them. I suggest, that you do not upload images that took almost no work to create. By comparison, images like these may also not be very useful, but at least contain more work than it takes to deal with them. Watchduck (quack) 13:31, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Watchduck Hi Thank you for your message. I will let my opinion to this conversation. First about image example such as 70,000,000 May i ask you how do you add image of 70,000,000 to wikidata if you do not have image i contributed ? and are you happy if someone use the word "Unhelpful" "Spammy" "Pointless" and Etc. to your images you uploaded ? I have to say what you have said are so unwelcoming new user and even worst it could make someone upset from using this kind of word. and when you say someone work are pointless or useless or Etc. it from your opinion you should get consensus from community about what you concern and do it nicer way and not to drive people away from contribution good work. You should also respect other people work and not to conclusion about it because you never know it might be useful more than image you have uploaded.

About what you said : "Please do not expect other people to teach you basic decency in the digital world." Can you give me more specific about it and example for it and if someone ask me the basic decency in the digital world i will be the first person to teach them if they ask because i like to give knowledge if i know them and i believed that what Wiki exist for!

and the most important i do not expect someone to do the work they should not so from now on if you think some work need to be done and adjust or remove you need to let me know and i have to say this if you do the work from what i have created it mean you not understand what i have say to you today. Do not work on other people mistake let them know and let them fix it. that the only way you can give knowledge to other and create better community.

Thank you for your concern and from now on i expect you to talk to me and others more before you do the work and complain about it. I am friendly and do not want to fight about something i am trying to contributions for someone in future or even someone who try to find image of Seventy Millions perhaps that image you gave example will not be use by word you mentioned above.Tris T7 TT me 23:11, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Watchduck Can you give me example of 48 colors background from existing common files just plain background without any word on it? Also another set of 50 Gradient background without anything on it? And 50 Advance Gradient background without anything on it?

I believed many people in this world would like to know How many Gradient background existing. Do you know how many color existing in this world? from my experienced and my knowledge there are 200 colors existing and i am about to create perhaps i should wait for you to answer and provide so i can use them to teach all photographer and 200 colors have name on it Example shade of Caramel Brown. can you provide me correct image of Caramel brown with number 7 on it? Looking forward to hear from you soon. Thank you in advance for showing me direction of Basic color decency. Those Caramel Brown i will use for 2019 Signature of mine if you can provide code please kindly add sample for my signature that would be great. -- Tris T7 TT me

@Watchduck Some idea for us I am suggestion between

and

File:Numerals by Trisorn Triboon.186.jpg
Seventy Millions in Black color on white background
Oh my...

You want to fix your mistakes? Good. Then be so kind to continue the cleanup I have started in Letters on colored background (image set), so that these images will not be directly in the categories L-Z anymore. The modularity principle states, that images should be in the most specific category possible. When it does not exit, you need to create it. (E.g. L on colored background (image set).) If you finish this cleanup, I will try to answer your other questions. Watchduck (quack) 01:48, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Watchduck Do you mind to let me know step from moving all L to Category:L on colored background (image set) and I have seen you did from A-K already? Thank you I am leaning fast after I get L done properly I can get M-Z done within an hour. Thank you again for provide new knowledge.--Tris T7 TT me 04:41, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Tris T7: Oh, right. I should have mentioned Cat-a-lot. It's a browser extension that allows you to select and move many files. Next you select all the M in Letters on colored background (image set) (open the cat-a-lot box, click on the first M, press shift, click on the last M) and move them to the subcategory (find the M row in the cat-a-lot box, click on the arrow). Then you go to M, select all your files and remove them (find the M in the cat-a-lot box and click on the minus). Watchduck (quack) 12:31, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Watchduck: Thank you for your best support I got it done in 10 mins from knowledge you gave. That made my day so happy that I learned something New everyday. Hey I live in Thailand. Which part of the world are you? Have you ever been to Thailand before? I have traveled around to many countries for work. So I am continue my work now and will ask your opinion about it before make load of them. What do you think if I created Vector File .svg for Number and Letter ? Anyway thank you again and let keep in touch I hope we can be friend and create better community for Wiki..Best--Tris T7 TT me

You forgot to remove your files from the letter categories. To unclutter those was kind of the whole point. Watchduck (quack) 18:33, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Trisorn, your account is very similar to that of Peak Hora. Could you please clarify if there is a relation? Watchduck (quack) 21:03, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Watchduck Thank you for your concern and User Peak99 are my friend who live in the same complex and he is one of share holder of my business. We run advertising agency here and also we earn enough from investing in stock market that reason why we have time to support by contribute knowledge. But one of my question to you would be why would it concern you so much about what we make since 99% of images we uploaded are not reverts for over a year. If it is a problem i am sure many of admins or sysops would get contact by now. and one more question what benefit i would get to create another account and uploaded difference images. We are press in Thailand and if you would like me to clarify perhaps you can request Wikimedia foundation to request my identification card to proof but if you just search from social media account you would know without asking me this it much more easier. hope this action are not conclusion as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:No_personal_attacks because i am feeling it now. and Hey my gear are Nikon D850 Which shoot anything with High Resolution i would say in the level of Highest range of camera that existing in market at the moment which totally difference than Peak99 Who used Nikon P900 which can shoot the Moon! Just wonder what i did to make you feel to concern about this issue? Any way i am happy to clarify my document to Wikimedia or person who have rights for this concern. Have a good day. at lease you ask before harm any contributor who spend time to contribution knowledge to others.Tris T7 TT me

The two clock images on the right clearly come from the same source, so I asked. As long as you two don't support each other in discussions or the like, there is no reason to suspect sockpuppetry. If you do, someone may take a closer look (Commons:Requests for checkuser). Watchduck (quack) 18:11, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi this is Peak here and i would like to clarify myself if you look at my user page https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:PEAK99 what make you think that i am sockpuppetry of someone? So disappointed about this message. "Can you give me one reason what did i do to look like it harmful to Wiki ? or anything at all ?" It's need to stop and I am happy to send my National Identification to prove it to Wikimedia and stop this issue of error doubting so please send request as your concern to Wikimedia and it will not be an issue again and again and again. "Just do not conclusion when you not truly know the person". and as i work in the same industry with Tris T7 and live in the same complex and contributions and participate many of projects as you can look at link above and my contributions and next time perhaps before contact someone and doubting or claim about sockpuppetry "Please start with communicate with that person first" and trying to get to know them before you judge them before get to know them because first impression of communication are "always beginning of friendship and friendly community of Wiki". and one last thing "Maybe you should rethink if this case happen with you how do you feel?" and answer might be "you not feel anything and ok with it" does not mean it ok for others.

Watchduck Doubting As long as you two don't support each other in discussions or the like, there is no reason to suspect sockpuppetry. If you do, someone may take a closer look (Commons:Requests for checkuser) Peak response Happy to video call to prove it or send identification document to the foundation as per request.

Thank you.--Peak (treat other as you wish in return)

Apparently you did not understand what I wrote. Maybe the emphasis will help:

Thanks for uploading File:010562-ENver-005 Royal Biography Her Majesty Queen Suthida.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. Please immediataly stop this kind of edits. Uncategoryzed files are tagged with the relevant template ({{Uncategorized}}), not a category. Please follow due process, there is no consensus to tag uncategoryzed files as you did. Best. --Steinsplitter (talk) 11:07, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Question for category Hello Steinsplitter (A) CC: @Themightyquill and Roy17: How are you? I hope you are well. As per rights of Admins or Sysops you have. This is Tris T7. As per your reverted for my edited about many of file from Media needing categories. Example i have added category to specific files such as

  • File:Banglanews logo20180725112204.jpg to Category:Logos from Media without category and the file name shown it is logo as you can see and it is press company as file name shown Banglanews so my question is Why you reverted my edited? Please kindly provide me some knowledge what i did wrong so i can understand and next time please allow me to revert them by myself that way i can learn and not to do it again with other files. And maybe before you revert someone editing if you can kindly communicate with them before revert and find out reason perhaps none of this would get easier to handle and you do not need double work to do.

Thank you for support. Regards, ..Tris T7 (talk) 04:15, 11 June 2019 (UTC) Here are some more file you reverted that i added to Logos category:[reply]

  • File:Barbour Brand Logo.svg as file name shown Logo so you have remove it out from Logos category that i did. Thank you and await for your reply...Tris T7 (talk) 04:19, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • File:BARKING GECKO LOGO.jpg
  • File:Bata National High School logo.png

  • File:Bankverein Werther AG.svg Especially this file when you have look i have asked 10 people that this file are logos or not and answered 100% said it is logo but you have removed it out from Category:Logos that i have edited.

So all file above just a few sample that you removed them out from Category:Logos from files needing categories or none category files. So please kindly explain for me to understand and the rest i will handle revert by myself so you do not to worry about it again. Thank you again for support and i just contributed 1 year and a few months old. So if something i did wrong please kindly provide knowledge or details so i will not do mistake again. About Category:Black and white files needing categories as of 2019, Category:Images from 500px photo needing categories as of 2018, etc. In future Can you kindly let contributors or user who created handle the work and kindly provide knowledge to them what they did wrong so they can be next generation of support when the current generation not interesting for contributions any longer or something happen with them so there are still have chance to continue the legacy. And what i did i think it useful as per separated black and white files out of mixing load of file from over 2xx,xxx files that needing categories. But if you want to revert them at lease you should have consensus before or at lease let me undo after conclusion of consensus. But now you have reverted and deleted it without discuss with me. I am just expecting that user with long time experienced could be more kind to give me knowledge i do not have and i can learn from it and not make the same mistake again plus correct direction for future contributions and support project. So please in future if you could provide me how to do the right thing as policy. please kindly support. Same with other new comers and any users. anyway i am learning many thing from this contributions and could use them in Phabricator to prevent and improve for better system..Thank you in advances, Regards,..Tris T7 (talk) 07:28, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Please read the policy's and the guidelines. You have to read them yourself, i cannot "provide knowledg" to you. There is no consenus for your changes, there is a closed CFD (where is no consensus). I see multiple complains regarding your edit pattern on yor talkpage, also multiple deleted files, uploaded in violation of COM:L. And regarding the stuff you wrote on my talkpage, this looks like a revange - i had to revert thousands of edits so i acceidentally reverted a few too much, accidentally. Do not play the system and make sure you follow due process. --Steinsplitter (talk) 10:44, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I still did not understand why you did not answer my question above so i am asking again for
  • File:Banglanews logo20180725112204.jpg

As per 16 sample files above Which files allow to add in Category:Logos? None of it? or all of it? If all of it Am i allow to add them back to Category:Logos? I did not understand when you said "Accidentally reverted" Did you mean what i edited are useful? Can you give exactly amount of files that you accidentally did revert? And do not get me wrong about what i have asked none of discussion are revenge. I mentioned those stuff because i want to clarify and get thing right and useful for others that all. Here also not revenge but i am kindly request you to recheck them and make sure that those files are belong to category or not before you revert someone editing. So i will wait for your answer for question above to let me know amount of files you accidentally reverted. Thank you for your reply and Regards..Tris T7 (talk) 19:30, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems#Tri T7. This is in relation to an issue with which you may have been involved.

--Steinsplitter (talk) 08:10, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Trisorn. (@Tris T7: )
I just took a look at the discussion mentioned above. It shows me that talking to you is still as difficult as I found it to be half a year ago. (Section Categories) It almost seems like you try to win arguments by exhaustion. But you can not make a problem smaller or less visible by just throwing enough letters at it. Please think about the point you want to make, and then write only what really helps to make that point. Take your time. This is not like some Facebook discussion, where you need to write the first comment to put your mark on a discussion. If you are not sure, just assume that the right approach on Commons is the opposite of the right approach in advertising. :)

The most extreme thing I noticed is that you pasted a whole section from this talk page in that discussion. If you want to reference something on a different page, you should just paste a short quote you want to talk about, and add a link for context. It can make sense to make a longer quote, but then at least put it in a collapsed box, so you don't drown out the actual discussion. Like this:

On a talk page indentation should be used to separate answers by different users. When you append to your own answer, there is no need to make another indent.

When you answer to someone else, indent one level.
Like this.

As to the initial topic: It should be clear that ordering uncategorized images by technical details like file extension is absolutely no help in actually getting them categorized. If you want to help, just move images to the respective subcategories of Media needing categories by subject.

The point of the category system is to add information about images. There is no point in adding information that Commons already has.
Obviously Commons already knows the file type and size of each image. This information is even searchable.
See e.g. the following searches in Cuboctahedron:       all images,       SVG,       JPG (width < 600px, width > 2000px)
(They use deepcat, so the images in the subcategories are also shown.)

I also recommend to use bulleted lists sparingly on talk pages. The list above works fine without a new line for each item. So do lists of images.

I hope you develop a better intuition for what is helpful, and what is not. Greetings, Watchduck (quack) 16:40, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Pokémon Generation 1 characters has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

@Roy17 Maybe you should check https://www.ranker.com/list/complete-list-of-all-pokemon-characters/video-game-info and also I owned those items it personal collection. If you think I can not use those images for article then let me know. I just want to know reason you should be able to explain it for me to understand more.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Pokémon_anime_characters https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_Nintendo_characters

and reason that Nintendo used word " Characters" This might explain more "Traits of Character" Character demonstrates that a word may have many and varied meanings and yet still be easily understood by most listeners when used in disparate settings. We have little trouble distinguishing the meanings of the noun in “she had a fine and noble character,” “Bill is always joking; he’s such a character,” and “He was the last characterto appear in the play,” not to mention its many other applications. Character comes ultimately from the Greek charaktēr (“mark, distinctive quality”), which passed through Latin and French before landing in English. The Greek noun itself is derived from the verb charassein, meaning “to sharpen, cut in furrows, or engrave.” The literal sense of the noun (“an engraved or imprinted mark”) existed in Greek, Latin, and French side by side with the figurative one (“a distinctive quality”), and both senses were borrowed into English early on, with a variant of the figurative sense appearing first.

Here also to let you understand more about Pokemon Characters from Fandom https://pokemon.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Pokémon_anime_characters

I hope this could be enough for understand why I have created those Categories. Category:Pokémon Generation 1 characters for 151 Characters And Generation 2 for 100 characters and Etc. Regards,..Tris T7 (talk) 21:18, 25 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove them again or (even better) delete the user category. Commons already knows which images your have uploaded. Watchduck (quack) 15:01, 4 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Murals in Wat Phra Kaew[edit]

What on earth makes you think it is a good idea to add images directly to Art in Thailand by century and Art in Thailand by year? If you know in which century or year the art has been created, put them in a category like 19th-century paintings from Tibet (and create it if necessary). Otherwise just don't use these categories.

I have moved the set in question to Ramakien murals. If that should be too specific, it can be moved up to Murals in Wat Phra Kaew. The whole set belongs in no other categories. But it would make sense to add individual images to categories like Hanuman in art. If you want your edits to be useful, then start adding actual information about images, instead of redundantly flooding broad categories.

BTW: 1000×667 is a ridiculously small resolution. (Especially given that your other photos typically have sizes like 8256×5504.) In Ramakien murals there are plenty of good images in decent resolution. So we don't need you to "donate" thumbnails for the originals you keep. Watchduck (quack) 16:31, 4 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi How are you? I am good thank you for your concern and thank you for you contributions for making those files where it should be. Some how if someone look for this art and look by the year they will not find them. i do not know exact year when it produced and it has been reproductions for a few time. So that is reason why i added them to someone who really know those details can reorganize them. Thank you. Have a good time for contributions free knowledge..Tris T7 (talk) 04:16, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Let me say it in flowers, so you don't forget:

Images of an artwork belong in the category for that artwork (like Ramakien murals), and any information about that artwork is added to the category, not to the image. E.g. a representation of the Mona Lisa belongs in Mona Lisa, and not in 1500s paintings from Italy or Women portraits by Leonardo da Vinci. (Not to mention Leonardo da Vinci or Renaissance!) I am sure you understand this. These are rules you (and your friend) are expected to follow. Just do it and stop acting like you just heard about COM:OVERCAT for the first time. Thanks for uploading File:2019 Pope Francis Bank Note by Trisorn Triboon 01.jpg.

If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Commons Photographers User Group: Meeting on September 26 and other stuff[edit]

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

I've got a quick update for you, containing three items:

  • I’d like to invite you to our group’s second Virtual Meeting on Saturday, September 26, 2020. As last time, this meeting will serve as an opportunity to get to know each other better, share learnings, and connect in times of the global COVID-19 pandemic. If you'd like to present, please add your name and the proposed topic to the list on the talk page.
  • Also, I'd like to start a conversation about how we should be sharing responsibility for the user group going forward. I'd love to get some help when it comes to organizing things and I'm convinced that we can achieve more if a couple of people helped with coordinating stuff.
  • Finally, the Wikimedia Foundation has asked me to spread the word about their latest survey: Universal Code of Conduct Survey. The goal is to create a safer environment on Wikimedia projects and the Foundation gathers feedback prior to coming up with a first draft.

Hope to see you at the Zoom meeting in September!

All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 19:03, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm also inviting you to share some information about yourself and your photography work with other members of the user group on our new membership list:

I hope you're well during these difficult times. All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 00:22, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

We'll have two presentations: Habib Mhenni aka Dyolf77 will answer the question Do "we" need DSLRs anymore? and Martin Falbisoner will walk us through the making of his featured picture File:Caribbean_Sea_-_Long_Exposure.jpg.

If you can make it, please add your name to the list of attendees to this page:

I hope to see you in three days. Also, I wish you, your family, and your friends all the best for 2021. Your contributions to Commons make a big difference.

Next Commons Photographers meeting featuring large format photographer Ben Horne[edit]

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

I'm happy to invite you to our next virtual meeting on Saturday, March 20, at the usual time. As I mentioned during our last get-together, I'd like to invite external guests every now and then, given that it seems good to expand our view and learn something from someone outside our community.

Our first external guest, Ben Horne, will talk about large format wilderness photography, followed by a question-and-answer session. Ben is maybe one of best known contemporary large format photographers in the United States. On his excursions to national parks, he shoots 8×10 film and talks about his adventures on his YouTube channel which has attracted more than 48,000 followers so far. He is YouTube's first, and longest active landscape photography vlogger and I'm thrilled that he has agreed to join our next meeting and talk about his experiences.

If you're interested in joining this meeting, please sign up on the page below:

Also, don't forget to post your question(s) prior to the meeting on the following page in order to ensure a good and fruitful question-and-answer session:

I'm very much looking forward to this event and I hope you'll be able to join.

The InternetArchiveBot team has come up with a new header for its documentation and user pages designed to make important links as easy to find as possible. We use this header on the bot's global user page, and we have it set up to show the labels in your interface language, meaning that the labels will appear in Russian on Russian Wikipedia (unless you override the interface language).

In order for this feature to work, we need translations of those labels. There are only six labels:

  • About the Bot
  • Report Problem
  • Contact Us
  • Documentation
  • Configure
  • Disable Bot

If you know how to say those things in another language, you can help! And your work will make it easier for non-English speakers to use InternetArchiveBot.

You're invited to provide input…[edit]

Dear fellow member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

At our last meeting end of August, we talked about getting in touch with the Wikimedia Foundation and offering our help for improving Wikimedia Commons. Today, I invite you to provide your input on a draft open letter to the Foundation. Over the course of the next ten days, we'll further improve the text together, before inviting people to sign it. If you're interested in providing input, please engage in the discussion on the talk page of the draft.

In the meanwhile, I hope you're well and have a great time taking photos! All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 08:42, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion[edit]

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Question from the CPUG Board[edit]

Dear user group member,

I'm writing you to today on behalf of the board of the Commons Photographers User Group. The past year has been a busy one for us. In 2022, we've had more activities than ever before in the history of our group and you'll find an overview on our group's page.

With that being said, 2022 was also a year of learning for the current board members. Most of us hadn't been involved in running the Photographers User Group and we spent quite some time on getting used to our new roles. We all feel it was a steep learning curve.

That's why, at our last board meeting, we decided to ask our members whether they'd be ok with us serving for another year. Extending our board duties to the end of 2023 would allow us to continue the work we've started this year, and to benefit from the knowledge we've built over the past twelve months.

However, in the end, it's up to you and the other members of our group to decide whether such an extension of our board term should be granted. I invite you to voice your opinion on this page:

Commons:Commons Photographers User Group/Board Elections 2022

We'll gather feedback until December 27, and we'll keep you in the loop about the outcomes of this process.

Thanks so much for your ongoing support of our group. I wish you, your family, and your friends all the best.

Most memorable shot 2022 / Wikimania 2023[edit]

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

I wish you a Happy New Year! As it has been our tradition at the beginning of the new year for a while, we're sharing our most memorable shots of the past year with each other. I invite you to share a picture that is particular meaningful to you and to describe why that's the case. Also, as Wikimania 2023 will be here before we know it (August 16 to 19), please consider adding your thoughts on our planning page, where we gather ideas for how we can make Commons photography more visible than in the years before.

All the best to you, your family, and friends! --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 21:01, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Flickypedia soft launch and a huge thank you[edit]

Dear fellow Commons photographer,

I hope this message finds you well. As you might already know, the Flickr Foundation has been busy creating a new Flickr-to-Commons bridge (“Flickypedia”) this year. After a successful demo at the GLAM Wiki Conference in Montevideo, the Flickr Foundation team is now inviting all members of the Commons Photographers User Group to be the first to review their alpha, reporting any technical issues or other feedback via the Flickypedia project talk page.

At the same time, this message is an opportunity for me to thank you for your trust and support over the past couple of years. Since 2017, we've grown into being one of the largest user groups in the Wikimedia universe. I've tremendously enjoyed interacting with all of our members when it came to joint photowalks at Wikimanias, virtual Zoom meetings where we covered a wide variety of photography topics, as well as our annual “Most memorable shot of the year”, among many other events. As I'm not running for an official position in our current board election, this will be my last message on behalf of the user group to you. Thanks for all the happy moments we shared together over the years! I hope you'll continue creating free images for the millions of people we serve through Wikipedia and Commons.

All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 19:36, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
