Immagine Berlusconi
Buon lavoro --Eh101 20:25, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Ho provveduto a cancellarla.
- Tuttavia niente paura o panico!!!
- Cordiali e sinceri saluti e Buon Lavoro --Jacopo Werther 21:54, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
Tuttavia perché in Wikimedia Commons esistono categorie come Category:Caricatures of politicians e sono regolarmente caricate immagini come Image:Bush Stencil.jpg, Image:Michael Dickinson.
----ßøuñçêY2K 23:53, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Il file "Compagni"
Ciao, in merito al File:Compagni.jpg... Wow, ma dove l'hai trovato ? A Cesena ? --87.17.152.115 15:38, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Your nomination File:Tree example IR.jpg
Hello! I have a question: How did you create your nomination for File:Tree example IR.jpg? I need to know for technical reasons; we are trying to implement a mechanism that will display a message when the voting period is over, and for some reason it wasn't included in your nomination. Did you use the button "Create new nomination" on Commons:Featured_picture_candidates?
Thank you in advance & have a great day. -- JovanCormac 09:44, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
Hi, thank you for your question. I'm Italian so I used the button "Candida una nuova immagine" (Italian for "Create new nomination") on Italian interface ("Commons:Segnalazioni per la vetrina") of Commons:Featured picture candidates. Maybe the Italian interface doesn't work well? Jacopo Werther (talk) 10:15, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you, I'll look into it. -- JovanCormac 10:17, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, I fixed it now. There were some old templates in use by other languages, which is also why the ImageAnnotator tool didn't work on them (it will now). I have also added the voting period flag to your nomination manually, and when the period is over it will display the appropriate text. -- JovanCormac 10:32, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

File:LEGO Space Shuttle Discovery with Hubble Space Telescope 7470 - 2003.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Categorizing multimedia files
Hi Jacopo,
thanks for your work on categorizing files uploaded by the Open Access Media Importer. Most of these changes were really helpful. However, I noticed that you have started to move materials out of categories named "Media from X" into similarly named "Videos of X1" or vice versa. This breaks the existing categorization by source, since X typically stands for the name of a journal and is categorized under "Media from Y", where Y is the respective publisher.
So please take a break on these recategorizations now and let's see together how we can fix the categorization by source and then move on to improve the categorization by topic and by media type.
Thanks and cheers, -- Daniel Mietchen - WiR/OS (talk) 21:22, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Cats picture
Hi! I classify pictures of felines, and I note that you choose Category:Felidae for your pictures of cats. The right category for house cats is Category:Felis silvestris catus. There is a lot of cat pictures in Commons and in consequence a lot of categories (cats by color, by setting, by behavior, etc.). If you feel lost, just choose Felis silvestris catus ^^ Regards, --Abujoy (talk) 14:17, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Ciao Jacopo, I've come across File:Kudu & Peacock.jpeg and I doubt a lot that the antelope shown there should be a kudu. It looks much more like a springbok to me. So, what would do you think? Should we rename this? De728631 (talk) 15:08, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
- Alright, I've tagged for renaming. File:Antelope & Peacock.jpg should be a neutral file name, so anyone can still adjust the description. De728631 (talk) 22:28, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
Categories
Hi, thank you for your great uploads. It would save us all a lot of time when you would use less but more precise categories. Reading COM:OVERCAT might help to explain that we don't use a tag based category system. If you are in doubt for a specific image group, you can give it any name; we will pick it up sooner or later. Enjoy. --Foroa (talk) 08:28, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Review of Flickr images
When an image from Flickr has already been reviewed regarding license, I don't see the need to have it reviewed yet again. Removing an existing Flickr review and replacing it for a request for review seems to me highly inappropriate. Why are you doing that? Wondering, -- Infrogmation (talk) 22:24, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, you are right, I agree with you. But please take a look to the File history. I'm removing the existing Flickr review and replacing it, to replacing image by its original image from Flickr (Original high-resolution images generally provided with EXIF Data). Copyright status: File:Death1.jpg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Death1.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Dubbio foto
- 3 foto di parroci in attivo negli anni che vanno dal 1900 alla fine della Seconda Guerra Mondiale (di cui uno sicuramente morto nel 1955, come citato nel libro);
- 1 foto del comitato che ha presieduto i lavori della chiesa (che stimo essere stata scattata intorno al 1924, anno di inaugurazione);
- alcune foto del luogo, scattate prima degli anni 60 ad occhio;
Grazie infinite, --Dan1gia2 (talk) 13:46, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement
Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!
Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Thanks for adding this category. I've added about 100 pics from this account on Flick, where they've posted over 2 million photos. This category will be gigantic. Magnolia677 (talk) 00:16, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
Palmi
Ciao. Grazie in anticipo. --Palminellafede (talk) 11:21, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

Long descriptions
Why such a long description on these files you're uploading? - dcljr (talk) 20:42, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
- I don't suppose you could cut it down to only the information relevant to these particular images? For example, in the files linked to above, everything from "A mineral is a naturally-occurring…" to "…rich color of high-purity gold." is way too general to be needed in an image description. - dcljr (talk) 22:57, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

Grazie in anticipo.--Alexmar983 (talk) 11:57, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

grazie.--Alexmar983 (talk) 10:42, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

Invece sostituirei "own" in source= con "commissioned and bought by Prof. Lyndon Emsley" o qualcosa di simile.
Io mi fiderei fino a prova contraria.
--Alexmar983 (talk) 18:39, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.Domdomegg (talk) 16:35, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign for User:The Photographer
Please excuse me spamming you. As a regular on Feature Picture Candidatess you will recognise User:The Photographer, who has 86 Featured Pictures. His contributions cover the architecture and culture of Brazil and Venezuela. He has basic photographic equipment: an old D300 camera and 35mm lens, and lives in a poor country where photographic equipment is expensive. The Photographer has recently taken several images using the technique where multiple frames are stitched together to create a high-resolution panorama. However, many times frustrated with the stitching errors that result from trying to take such photos without a proper panoramic head for his tripod. This special equipment permits the camera to be rotated around the entrance pupil of the lens, and eliminates such errors. Having a panoramic head would greatly increase the potential for The Photographer to create sharp high-resolution images for Commons. In addition, the purchase of a fisheye lens would enable 180 × 360° panoramas to be taken, which are a great way to explore a scene as though one is really there.
Please see the discussion about the Crowd-funding campaign on User talk:The Photographer#Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign and visit the Generosity Crowd-funding Campaign page to consider donating. Even a modest donation will make a difference if many people contribute. Thanks. -- Colin (talk) 21:11, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Your VFC installation method is deprecated
Hello Jacopo Werther, we are aware that using the old installation method of VFC (via common.js, which you are using) may not work reliably anymore and can break other scripts as well. A detailed explanation can be found here. Important: To prevent problems please remove the old VFC installation code from your common.js and instead enable the VFC gadget in your preferences. Structured Data on Commons Newsletter, July 19, 2017
Welcome to the newsletter for Structured Data on Wikimedia Commons! You can update your subscription to the newsletter. Do inform others who you think will want to be involved in the project!
Structured Data on Wikimedia Commons?
The millions of files on Wikimedia Commons are described with a lot of information or (meta)data. With the project Structured Data on Wikimedia Commons, this data is structured more, and is made machine-readable. This will make it easier to view, search (also multilingually), edit, organize and re-use the files on Commons.
In early 2017, the Sloan Foundation funded this project (see documentation). Development takes place in 2017–2020. It involves staff from the Wikimedia Foundation and Wikimedia Deutschland (WMDE) and many volunteers. To achieve this, Wikibase support is added to Wikimedia Commons. Wikibase is the technology that is also used for Wikidata.
Recent developments: groundwork
- A new and crucial technical step (federation) now makes it possible to reference data from one Wikibase website in another. Because of this, it will be possible to use Wikidata's items and properties to describe media files on Commons.
- Another important piece of groundwork is under development: so-called Multi-Content Revisions. This feature allows structured data to be stored alongside wiki text, so that one wiki page can contain several types of content.
Team updates
- Amanda Bittaker was hired as Program Manager for Structured Data on Wikimedia Commons. Amanda will take care of the overall management of the project.
- Sandra Fauconnier (known as Spinster in her volunteer capacity) is the new Community Liaison. She will support the collaboration between the communities (Commons, Wikidata, GLAM) and the product development teams at the Wikimedia Foundation and Wikimedia Deutschland.
- We have open positions for a UX designer and a Product Manager!
Talking with communities and allies
- Long-term feedback from GLAMs. Besides the Wikimedia community, many external cultural and knowledge institutions (GLAMs - Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) are interested in Structured Data on Commons and are willing to provide feedback on the long-term plans for the project. Alex Stinson, GLAM strategist at the Wikimedia Foundation, is currently in contact with Europeana, DPLA, the Smithsonian and the National Archives of the United States. Alex is also looking for other GLAM institutions who might be able to advise on the long term. If you know of an institution or partner that may be appropriate for consultation, do get in touch with Alex.
- Jonathan Morgan, design researcher, is starting to work on two projects:
- Researching batch upload workflows by interviewing GLAM institutions
- Researching the enrichment, organization and improvement tasks on already uploaded media files by engaging with active Commons contributors. This research follows up on existing research by Wikimedia Deutschland on heavy Commons users.
What comes next?
- The Structured Data on Commons team meets in the week after Wikimania to lay the groundwork for the next steps. This includes new backend development and design work, for better and more clear integration of the structured data in pages on Wikimedia Commons.
- The project's information pages on Wikimedia Commons will receive a long overdue update in the upcoming months. The team will also work on more and better communication channels. Feedback, wishes and tips are welcome at the project's general talk page.

Sapevatelo

More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.Stombari7 (talk) 16:12, 9 June 2018 (UTC)Stombari7

Structured Data on Commons Newsletter - Summer 2018
Welcome to the newsletter for Structured Data on Wikimedia Commons! You can update your subscription to the newsletter and contribute to the next issue. Do inform others who you think will want to be involved in the project!
- Community updates
- Our dedicated IRC channel: wikimedia-commons-sd webchat
- Since our last newsletter, the Structured Data team has moved into designing and building prototypes for various features. The use of multilingual captions in the UploadWizard and on the file page has been researched, designed, discussed, and built out for use. Behind the scenes, back-end work on search is taking place and designs are being drawn up for the front-end. There will soon be specifications published for the use of the first Wikidata property on Commons, "Depicts," and a prototype is to be released to go along with that.
- A workshop on what Wikidata properties Commons will need. This workshop will be open for the entire month of July 2018 at minimum.
- Join the community focus group!
- Do you want to help out translating messages about Structured Data on Commons from English to your own language? Sign up on the translators page.
- Contribute to the next newsletter.
- Discussions held
- In late February there was a discussion around how Commons generally sees data being modeled.
- The first discussion on copyright and licensing with Commons was held in March. This was a "high level" discussion, there will be a consultation later this summer about the deeper mapping of copyright and licensing in a structured way.
- In April there was an exercise for GLAM partners in metadata and ontology mapping.
- A discussion about the design for Multilingual Captions on the file page took place in May. You can still review the designs and leave feedback.
- There was an IRC office hour in June to discuss progress so far and future plans.
- Wikimania 2018
- Three sessions about Structured Commons are officially scheduled for Wikimania 2018 - Cape Town, South Africa - July 2018.
- Wikimedia Commons and GLAM needs around the world (Friday 20 July, 10:30 local time)
- Structured Data on Wikimedia Commons and knowledge equity (Friday 20 July, 14:00 local time)
- Design challenge workshop: How can multilingual structured metadata bring knowledge equity to Commons? (Friday 20 July, 14:30 local time)
- Structured Data on Commons is also a focus area during the Wikimania 2018 Hackathon. We will, among other things, do 'live' modelling of Wikidata properties for Commons - an offline spin-off of the community consultation taking place on wiki.
- Partners and allies
- We are still welcoming (more) staff from GLAMs (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) to become part of our long-term focus group (phabricator task T174134). You will be kept in the loop of the project, and receive regular small surveys and requests for feedback. Get in touch with Sandra if you're interested - your input in helping to shape this project is highly valued!
- Structured Data on Commons was presented to GLAM audiences during EuropeanaTech 2018 in Rotterdam (15 May 2018) and at the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek Forum in Berlin (4 June 2018).
- Research
Two research projects about Wikimedia Commons are currently ongoing, or in the process of being finished:
- Research:Curation workflows on Wikimedia Commons—a project that seeks to understand the current workflows of Commons contributors who curate media (categorize it, delete it, link to it from other projects, etc.).
- Research:Technical needs of external re-users of Commons media—soliciting feedback from individuals and organizations that re-use Commons content outside of Wikimedia projects, in order to understand their current painpoints and unmet needs.
- Prototypes will be available for Depicts soon.
- Stay up to date!
- Follow the Structured Data on Commons project on Phabricator: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/project/profile/34/
- Subscribe to this newsletter to receive it on a talk page of your own choice.
- Join the next IRC office hour and ask questions to the team! The date for next quarter will be announced soon.

Structured Data Newsletter - Research link fix
Greetings,
The newsletter omitted two interwiki prefixes, breaking the links on non-meta wikis as you might see above. Here are the correct links:
- m:Research:Curation workflows on Wikimedia Commons—a project that seeks to understand the current workflows of Commons contributors who curate media (categorize it, delete it, link to it from other projects, etc.).
- m:Research:Technical needs of external re-users of Commons media—soliciting feedback from individuals and organizations that re-use Commons content outside of Wikimedia projects, in order to understand their current painpoints and unmet needs.
My apologies, I hope you find the corrected links helpful.

Happy holidays 2019! ;-)
Captions in January
Structured Data - file captions coming this week (January 2019)
My apologies if this is a duplicate message for you, it is being sent to multiple lists which you may be signed up for.
Hi all, following up on last month's announcement...
Multilingual file captions will be released this week, on either Wednesday, 9 January or Thursday, 10 January 2019. Captions are a feature to add short, translatable descriptions to files. Here's some links you might want to look follow before the release, if you haven't already:
- Read over the help page for using captions - I wrote the page on mediawiki.org because captions are available for any MediaWiki user, feel free to host/modify a copy of the page here on Commons.
- Test out using captions on Beta Commons.
- Leave feedback about the test on the captions test talk page, if you have anything you'd like to say prior to release.
Additionally, there will be an IRC office hour on Thursday, 10 January with the Structured Data team to talk about file captions, as well as anything else the community may be interested in. Date/time conversion, as well as a link to join, are on Meta.
Thanks for your time, I look forward to seeing those who can make it to the IRC office hour on Thursday. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:09, 7 January 2019 (UTC)File:Texas Bluebonnet (129892304).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Structured Data - blogs posted in Wikimedia Space
There are two separate blog entries for Structured Data on Commons posted to Wikimedia Space that are of interest:
- Working with Structured Data on Commons: A Status Report, by Lucas Werkmeister, discusses some ways that editors can work with structured data. Topics include tools that have been written or modified for structured data, in addition to future plans for tools and querying services.
- Structured Data on Commons - A Blog Series, written by me, is a five-part posting that covers the basics of the software and features that were built to make structured data happen. The series is meant to be friendly to those who may have some knowledge of Commons, but may not know much about the structured data project.
